Hey, it's Antoine Friday! Our community project for today: wear a fragrance by perfumer Antoine Lie or Antoine Maisondieu, if you have one.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
Me: double points, for Etat Libre d'Orange Rossy de Palma Eau de Protection (and I ought to get extra credit given how long it took me to find my sample), by both Antoines.
Reminder: 6/9 will be Fruity Friday! (A repeat from 2014.) Wear something fruity. Doesn't have to be a fruity floral, just something with plenty of fruit.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image via Rossy de Palma at Facebook.
Scent twins Robin! I suspect the world is a rosier place today…
I suspect we will be a large contingent — I like the idea 🙂
One of my top 5 all time favorite perfumes! Alas, I am not in the mood for it today, but I did wear it last week.
Close enough!
No Antoines in my collections, just an observer today.
But what are you wearing?
waiting until I get to work and see what samples are in my emergency cache in the desk drawer
One of my perfume contacts gave me a histoires 1740 travel size so that is the scent today, not to spring like but nice all the same
Marquis de Sade!
Yay for Friday!
I’m team Maisondieu. Van Cleef & Arpels Rose Velours.
What team are you? 😉
I wore three roses on Monday including that one..it was my favorite! You smell great Lucas!
Which is your favorite rose apart from that one?
ooh, that is a tough question to answer as rose is so dominant in so many fragrances…I do like Jo Malone Velvet Rose & Oud, Dame Perfumery’s Cassis, Rose & Sandalwood as well as his soliflore Rose de Mai, Keiko Mecheri Attar de Roses, Chloe (the one released in the early or mid 2000s..it is a clean and fresh rose to my nose), Pacifica’s Egyptian Bergamot Rose (sadly discontinued…gosh how I loved that inexpensive beauty!) and Eden Botanicals Egyptian Rose Essential oil (they have a very large variety of rose essential oils which I would highly recommend exploring if you are interested in that note in particular…they might even have a rose sampler pack)…also, Sonoma Scent Studio does great stuff with roses…and I recently tried Serge Lutens Sa Mageste a La Rose (sorry if I am butchering the name) which was also quite lovely….
sorry for the very long response!!!
Thank you so much for answering! I will check the Eden Botanicals Egyptian Rose Oil for my diffuser. So many roses to explore!
Very interesting to read. what about OJ Tai’if?
Calypso- I haven’t tried any OJ pefumes….yet 🙂
Thank you chocolatemarzipan
Oh, I think I might get that one for my moms birthday. Do you love it or just like it? She loves roses…
Love it ????
have you tried Perfumer’s Workshop Tea Rose? that is so pretty if you are looking for a true to life rose….and it is highly affordable.
Is it available in Europe?
Just purchased a bottle, thank you so much! Love this community!
oh yay! do let us know if your mom likes it!
Team cousin in Muguet Blanc!
High five!
I wore it this week!
No Antoines in my collection. Has anyone tried the newish Louis Vuitton’s? I received a package in the mail from my favourite Saks SA yesterday, containing 6 LV samples (Rose des Vents, Dans La Peau, Contre Moi, Apogee, Mille Feux and Turbulences) as well as 6 by Killians (Intoxicated, Vodka on the Rocks, Black Phantom, Good Girl Gone Bad, Straight to Heaven). I tried Dans la Peau last night and found it pretty awful but sprayed Turbulences this morning and it’s not too bad. Even if I don’t really like any of them, it’s always fun to receive an unexpected perfume package in the mail.
Indeed it is fun!!!
I need to try that Eau de Protection, just haven’t gotten around to it yet. I do have Rhythm, but I couldn’t face the lavender.
So today, on this long awaited Friday (anyone else have the experience that this was a realllllly long week?) I am wearing a base of Tauer’s Carillon pour un Ange, with a generous overspray of Dame’s Lily of the Valley Soliflore, to sweeten it up a bit, as Carillon reads like Lily of the Valley leaves, with very little Lily of the Valley flowers on my skin. 🙂 The Dame Lily of the Valley is pretty, but light, and the two of them do a good job of completing each other, as the Dame hovers over the base, and is not subsumed by it.
I smell leafy and flowery, with no sneezing, something I like in a green perfume…
I love your blending ! this sounds divine! The Dame Perfumes blend so nicely.
I do like Carillon, but I have yet to actually buy anything more than samples. I’ve drained two so far and have two to go, but CpuA is so powerful that just a drop will do me.
Someone generously gave me a decant of this. NSTers are the best!
Yes. Very long week. I am sorry Meredifay that I don’t remember– do you have kids? For me the last weeks of school always seem very long as I usually don’t have tight writing deadlines, so have more time to obsess on my kids’ final exams and panic that I haven’t really planned anything for the summer, and school is almost, but not quite yet, out… Also this week there were many distressing stories in the news. Wears ya out.
No children, but I work at a university teaching hospital, so we are driven by the school year schedule. Adorable hubby is 3 weeks from finishing up his Masters degree, a long delayed and yearned for goal, with attendant drama and angst. And yeah the national scene is an often uneasant spectacle lately. Thaks for highlighting that. It helps to take a step back!
Unpleasant. Yeesh.
Yes — this week is a flurry of end-of-school-year planning & bad news.
This was a realllly long week for sure!
Oh. My. Gawd. It has been the longest short week ever!
Thanks for reminding me about the Dame LOTV. I keep forgetting to try the rest of the soliflores.
The Osmanthus is so powerful, just sniffing the opened sample knocks me out. I haven’t had the nerve to put any on myself, yet. Got a few more I haven’t even opened yet…
If you think the Osmanthus is powerful wait ’til you try the Narcissus
S(s)OTD-(on two arms front and back)
Brigitte (the best Tocca out there IMHO)
Britt Gold (why oh why did they not keep this and Britt Red in the lineup???)
Stephen Jones (just got it last night)
Rossy (scent twins, Robin!)
also, wafting in Nicolai L’Eau a la P….(middle aged brain fart cause I can’t remember the last part of the name but this is fantastic…remind me of Gucci Rush…will be getting a lot of skin time in the summer!) Sprayed it on my shirt!
on my neck- Soiholve Honeysuckle Bird…from the bottle I thought I smelled cumin but on skin not at all…wonder if it is the linden? I think this is an all natural and it is so beautiful….anyone looking for a honeysuckle perfume that is sweet I recommend it….I think there is strawberry as a note so I will revisit this one next week for fruit week.
Top of hands Eau de Missions for the first time (another great summer cologne!)
The perfume gods must like me because I received an impromptu surprise package last night from my best friend (who is also a perfumista) and I was playing with my new toys last night (and obviously today as well!!)….last night tested SL Un Bois Vanille, original Prescriptives Calyx (haven’t smelled that in YEARS!!!!!) and Boucheron Trouble.
happy Friday y’all!
keep calm and reek on!
L’Eau a la Folie…..sheesh!
Isn’t that one fun? I’m sort of hoarding the last of my little bottle but I’ll definitely wear it next week and maybe even polish it off this summer!
It really is a fun one! Does it remind you a bit of Gucci Rush? This was a massive surprise as I had never heard of it and she sent me a full bottle…it really is fun when something unexpected turns out to be so wonderful….I am home in my bathrobe right now and I can smell it on that cause I sprayed it on there last night…..
Wow, you’re lucky to have a full bottle! Seems almost impossible to find now. Gucci Rush? Not so much except they’re both peachy? BV reminds me more of Rush.
Tocca is a line that I almost never hear about, but that I love.
Stella is my favorite a bright, happy, blood orange
I agree…it is a nice line and the bottles are stunning…I drained a mini of Florence several years ago and a good friend wears Guillietta as her signature scent…Stella is fantastic and there is also another one that KellyC says is a dupe for Gypsy Water…all in all I would say it is a decent line and the prices are good plus they have numerous ancillary products (shower gels, candles, travel sprays, hand creams , etc)
I really like Colette – it’s one of the few floral-ish scents I enjoy in hot weather. I also tried Cleopatra, but wound up gifting that one to my mom . . .
I love the Cleopatra lotion, but the edt doesn’t smell anything like it.
I remember I used to love Trouble!
I really like it too! And the mini bottle I have is so adorable.
How are you liking your new job?
Thanks for asking, I’m working the closing shift today, so I don’t start until 2pm. Hopefully it will be fine.
I loved it too and owned a bottle, but my best friend complained that it smelled like root beer. After that association I could never wear it again and gave it away. Now I hope I haven’t ruined it for anyone! I wish I had some now to re-try.
Wait, what, Root Beer? I want….oh oh I am in trouble
Crazy they did not keep Brit Gold, it was the best. Do you like the Stephen Jones?
Oh Robin, from your mouth to God’s ears on the Britt Gold!!! I managed to eek out a few vapors from my empty bottle this morning 🙁 …and Britt Red was the very very very best rhubarb in my opinion…
Stephen Jones…yes, I liked it…but now after five hours ( I applied right after my shower this morning) it has faded.
and why do I always spell Brit with two “T”s ????
5 hours is just about how long I like a fragrance to last 🙂
Where did you get the Eau de Missiones? I am having trouble finding it for some reason?
Butting in to say that I’m pretty sure you can find it at Ulta.
This is the one I have…it was a gift but yes, ulta carries it
http://www.ulta.com/botanical-colonge-of-minims?productId=xlsImpprod14552685
and the names are incredibly confusing…I may have written the wrong name above…I have the one that is very citrus and herbally….a classic cologne with the same DNA as 4711…very refreshing!
I am looking for Eau De Missones specifically. That is the vanilla one that resembles SDV, minus the tobacco note…
Some of the Duane Reades / CVS carry the line.
Really? I will lool for it there. Thanks, hajusuuri!
Num num, Un Bois Vanille is lovely. I’m still pondering the perfect vanilla, and that one is in the running.
I loved it and could not stop sniffing my knuckles (where I applied it) last night…it is similar to Dame Black Flower Mexican Vanilla which I adore.
Oh, that’s good to know, that the Sl is similar to the Dame.
If you don’t mind…Is the gardenia or jasmine very strong in BFMV? They are listed as notes, and both can really explode on my skin.
All my skin amps is the vanilla….but your mileage may vary!
Neither Antoine in my collection. I’m in Tam Dao, which my husband says smells like applesauce to him.
Still chugging away at reports, but the worst is over. I should have a fairly relaxing afternoon… hopefully….
Ha! Applesauce? That’s a first.
Seriously! That’s some good applesauce 😉
I don’t get it either. At least he’s consistent though. Whenever I wear this one he says “You smell like applesauce today.” Most other fragrances are just “sweet” or “celery” to him.
I join the chorus of, !Applesauce??!!. Best smelling applesauce ever!
I think so too 😉
Happy Friday! I am not participating in the project this week- the only perfume I have that qualified is Jasmin et Cigarette, and I’m going to a graduation so wanted to wear something a little more “proper”. So I am wearing Beige and smelling divine.
This is my last day of work until August – I’m usually really stoked about summer vacation, but I’m feeling kind of blue because I’m really going to miss the students I was lucky enough to work with this year. Oh well, a few long mornings of drinking coffee with the cat on my lap will cure me. One thing I love about summer vacation is the chance to wear several perfumes in one day!
what age students do you teach?
That is so sweet, I hope you have a great summer break!
Wearing Bendelirious – its cherry pink cheeriness will counteract the morning’s greyness.
Hope that worked!
Twins!
I had Rossy de Palma all set up for this AM, but swapped out for a sample of MDCI Cio CIo San .
All sweetness and light – just like me ( hahahhaa)
🙂
Just got a decant of that and you are right, sweetness and light and that makes two of us.
Oops, pardon my math, that makes 3 of us!
I honoured both Antoines by wearing Rossy yesterday, but today I’m wearing my favourite creation from ELDO and of my favourites full stop. Rien. Best perfume name ever, and a gorgeous fragrance as well.
Have a great weekend!
You too!
I’m sampling Burberry Brit Rhythm For Her today. A sweet, soft, powdery kind of lavender. I wish it were juicier, less dry. But it’s still nice. Robin compared it to Baiser Vole and Prada Infuison d’Iris, and I can see why (the same “soft veil” feel), but both Cartier and Prada have green and citrus notes I miss in Burberry. I still like it, but I think I need to try it again in cold weather.
They really need to do a flanker (of a flanker) for that one — I wanted more lavender.
Wearing Vraie Blonde, which smells like champagne to me. Happy Friday!
Like a pineapple mimosa!
That’s a good one, indeed.
I do not own any scents by the Antoines. I do have a sample of Magnolia Nobile, but I cannot find it this morning.
SOTD: Czech & Speake Dark Rose.
Ah, you smell great anyway!
Commando and I don’t have anything for this project
Planning on sniffing at sephora when I am done with my dentist appt
Haiku for today:
Warm city streets
Santal 33 floods the sidewalks
Women unveiling their skin
????
Great poetry, lovestosmellgood…I am looking forward to exploring the LL samples I recently received. I might explore that line during “oddball fragrance” week.
Good luck at the dentist, I hope it’s uneventful. ????
Was anything at Sephora interesting and/or good to you?
I never made it…went shopping instead (clothing)
Hey, you gotta do what you gotta do! 🙂
I plan on wearing Stephen Jones later on. I have a doctor’s appointment this morning so will wait until after that.
Just got off the phone with master card; there was fraudulent attempts on my card so they are issuing me a new one today. Hoping the day gets better..
Boo. I hate thieves. Hope it’s resolved soon.
That happens regularly with my and my husband’s debit cards. They shut down the card with no forewarning, then it takes about 10 days to get the replacement in the mail. It’s a real PITA, but incurring a bunch of fraudulent charges would be worse.
and it is an even bigger PITA when direct payments are attached to your credit card and you have to call various companies to switch to the new card number.
Argh, I feel your frustration with the credit card fraud. I was dealing with it last week. :< I hope that your issues are resolved quickly!
I woke up this morning wanting the glory of Azemour – nothing else would do, apparently – but luckily I pre-Antoined at bedtime last night with Sugi. Happy Friday all!
Yum.
TGIF!
Hello scent-triplets! Also wearing Double Antoine’s Rossy de Palma Eau de Protection.
Wonder how many siblings we will manage to get by the end of the day? 🙂
Too lazy to count!
Happy Friday!! Also in Rossy de Palma today with a tiny spritz of CdG Play: Black on my hand for extra credit. Love Rossy, Play Black not so much.
I liked Black, but Rossy is better.
It’s better once it calmed down(it seemed a bit harsh) but still not my thing. Someone gave it to me when a store they worked at closed. I do like the bottle graphic and it looks nice on my bookshelf!
I missed the boat today, but I’m standing on the shore smelling good in my Chanel Cristalle edp. It is one of those perfect late spring days that have been rare for us this year, and Cristalle is just right. (As per Rossy de Palma – now I am wanting to watch Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, which if course, would be me at work this week! 😉 )
I tried Cristalle a year ago, and I did not like the way it smelled on me. Fastforward to last week. I picked up my friend for lunch, and when she got in the car, she smelled so good. I asked her what she was wearing, and it was Cristalle. I wish it worked for me, but love to smell it on others.
You smell great!
I think the EDT and the EDP are a bit different….and the vintage is truly different! so you might want to revisit all three!
Thank you! For a very long time when I was younger I did not like Cristalle – or any other greens or mosses for that matter. But a few years ago it just clicked. It smells like summertime to me. There is a big difference between the edt and edp for sure as chocolate mentions below. I’ve never smelled vintage of either so I can’t comment.
Vintage was less “fresh and light” as current…as it had a hefty dose of oakmoss…if you get vintage now it won’t smell the same as current formulation or even what pristine vintage smelled like when I wore it in the late 1970s because it had a lot of citrus top notes which don’t hold up with age…however, the drydown of the vintage is gorgeous and just what it was from so many years ago. If you can get your hands on some do give it a try.
I’ve always loved all things green and citrus so it seemed like Cristalle would be a natural lovematch with me. But it took me a couple of years of trying it here and there to fall for it. I’d agree that the edt and edp are quite different, though I’ve actually only tried the current edt and vintage (not sure from what era) edp. The edp I love and I have been hunting for a good price on a bottle. It’ll be my next FB purchase.
Will also add that I fell hard for the Eau Verte last summer, so maybe that was a gateway? Though I’ve always felt Eau Verte had more in common with No 19 Poudre than with Cristalle.
I agree, the Eau Verte has a very similar vibe to No 19 Poudre then the original Cristalle.
I adored the original Cristalle edt (vintage), wore it frequently in HS, along with Eau de Patou. I was a huge oakmoss/citrus lover back in the day!
Another sunny, warm and gorgeous day, so I am enjoying working outdoors. Wearing Burberry Brit Rhythm for Her. Happy Friday everyone!
Did you end up going to Uniqlo to check out the water-resistant jacket?
Yes, I went to the store on 42nd street this afternoon and I found them. I bought one in beige and I ordered a black one online because they did not have my size. I like the fact that they are so light and the price was really good. Exactly what I need it. Thanks a lot for your recommendation!!
California Rêverie!
Yesterday I compared CR and MM Flying. CR is a bit sweeter with that lovely VC&A base. Both very nice with fairly weak longevity:(
I really liked California Reverie, which is unusual for me in that I’m not a big citrus fan OR a big jasmine fan. But it only lasted two hours on me anyway. 🙁
I wore California Rêverie last night as I was craving oranges (I’ve never gotten any jasmine from it – it just smells like a CA orange grove to me) and *just* pulled a MM Flying sample from a stash on my dresser. Is Flying an Antoine? Or were you just comparing citruses?
I’ve thought about giving the Flying sample to my dad as he’s a pilot (but not a perfume-wearer.)
Sprayed a bit of Flying on my wrist. Nice citrus opening! Reminds me of citrus Ateliers. But, ya, gone after 30 minutes.
Yay, I then have an Antoine in my collection! I so much enjoy California Rêverie, and I already wore it this week (without knowing I am participating in the project), but will make sure to spray some again today — Nice, and thank you, Laura!
(just got a sample of Rodin 3, and am looking forward to testing it!)
Is that the new Rodin? Very curious to hear about it when you try it.
I was going to wear Burberry Brit Rhythm today but I’ve been having off-and-on stomach issues for several weeks and today it’s on so I am still commando.
Ugh, sorry to hear about the stomach! Feel better soon. Sometimes I enjoy essential oils like lavender, peppermint, or lemon when I’m not feeling up to perfume.
Gosh, that’s awful that your still having stomach issues. I hope you feel better soon.
Ooh, no goodski. Hope things turn around for you. IDK what ails you, but my GI tract takes kindly to kombucha when it’s acting up.
Eating some candid ginger should be helpful!
Sorry to hear about your stomach issues. It sounds kind of serious, though, since it’s been going on for a while.
Oh, no. I do hope it resolves soon. But, agree it sounds like a rather long time to be hanging around. Don’t want to sound too nurse-y, but maybe it needs a work-up if it’s not improving?
Sitting around waiting to go to work. Decided to reorganize my perfumes, so currently wearing a bit of Florabotanica and a bit of Prada Candy Kiss. Neither one is making the cut for my official “first day” sotd. Will decide after a shower. Hope everyone has a great weekend!
Oh, so exciting! Best wishes for your official first day.
Thank you!
Good luck today, Lillyjo!
Thank you!
I hope that your first day goes well!
In Jasmin et Cigarette…
You smell good, and I am tempted by that small size bottle on Sephora’s website that somebody pointed out a couple of days ago …
Twins. ;^)
I’m Team Maisondieu in two small dabs from my very last vial of VC&A’s discontinued Muguet Blanc. Wish they would bring this back!
I did not even know it got discontinued!
No Antoines in my collection, so instead I’m feeling furry in Kiehl’s Original Musk (I have a decant of the Anniversary Edition. I think it’s different than the regular edition.)
Here’s a Massive Attack tune for those of you in Eau de Protection today:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Epgo8ixX6Wo
I keep thinking I should get another Kiehl’s Musk. I owned a bottle like 10 years ago but never replaced it. My collection is musk poor and I keep coming back to that one in my mind. All that to say: you smell great! (though have no idea what that edition smells like).
I love that one, but it is so potent on me. And only works in the winter in this climate.
I can send you some if you’d like. I have 3ml glass vials this time (blush).
So sweet ???? Email sent
Mine is musk-poor as well, and decants of musks never make it into my cart because I always think they’re going to be boring or something? IDK what my hang-up is. The 2 I do have – Mona di Orio and Musc Ravageur – kinda make me swoon so it’s clearly a note I need to play with more.
Mmm, you just reminded me how much I need a decant of Musc Ravageur! Lorenzo Villoresi makes a great musk too.
I almost impulse bought that LV Musc but glad I decided to wait because after wearing it for an hour, the floral/rose aspect intensified suddenly and overwhelmed me. But the first sniff was love.
Yeah, maybe that’s my thinking too or that they’ll just smell like laundry musk or hippies. Actually I do have a couple(SL Clair de Musc decant which smells like LV TdN to me and Kuumba Made Egyptian Musk) and then others that I don’t think of as musk perfumes but are really musk dominant-L’Air de Rien, Habanita L’Esprit, Teint de Neige. Funny, I don’t think of Musc Ravageur as a musk, but an ambery/vanilla oriental.
Love the Kuumba Made..that is a cheap thrill!
It is good, but I can only smell it sometimes.
That song is the soundtrack of my husband’s courtship. It rockets me back to the upper west side of Manhattan, drinking wine and BBQing on the roof with everything ahead of us.
That sounds absolutely wonderful
Massive Attack! Thanks for the video–it made my Friday! ‘Mezzanine’ is a desert island disc for me.
Glad to hear it! Mezzanine is a stellar album.
Sampling CdG/PW Girl for Team Antoine Lie
I like Girl better today than the last time I tried it which was also for a Friday community project. Girl is nicely woody, and I like lavender, so there’s that. Plus it’s in a funky bottle, and it’s at the discounters, and it’s Friday, and and and . . .
holy cow! fragrancenet is selling the 100ml bottle for twenty dollars! I remember when it debuted and the bottle was well over $120..just goes to show it pays to wait!
Yup, practically free.
Wow!
I only grabbed the little 10 mL sprayer when it was at Sephora. Now I’m wishing I had grabbed the big bottle. It’s a strong fragrance, so I need only a bit…but dies down pretty quickly and then I want to spray again. how would you rate the sillage and longevity?
I spritzed twice from a sample. Girl gave me moderate projection and very good lasting power. Strong enough that I was tired of Girl by this afternoon and spritzed 4711 all over the top of it.
There is something in many woody scents that can lasts forever. Orange Sanguine is a fleeting citrus for some noses, but the sandalwood-ish dry down hangs around until the next day for me.
Wow! Scents really last on you. Orange Sanguine is one of my spring/summer favorites, but lasts only a couple hours. I keep the little 30mL in my desk at work as an EBP/refresher scent.
I’m wearing CdG + Pharrell Williams Girl. I actually really love this perfume, and I will never run out because the bottle is HUGE. haha.
Hi twin! I like Girl so far today and will keep sniffing. Right now Girl reminds me of Dior Homme’s mix of iris/vetiver/patchouli.
I’m actually not familiar with that scent but I will have to try it! In Girl, I get a huge dose of white pepper that gives the scent an edge for basically its entire life on my skin. I like it for that–it’s very bright and peppery!
I love that each of us seems to highlight a different note in it. I wonder why that is–from skin chemistry to differences in perception to different environments?
All of the above, lol. And the fragrance I wore yesterday can change the way another scent acts on my skin today.
Dior Homme is easy to find at the shopping mall, I hope you can give it a go sometime. It is smoother than Girl, definitely less pepper. 🙂
Agree but there are so many Dior Homme flankers that it could get very confusing!
Wish I could find my 3ml sample of Stephen Jones, that is some seriously good weird stuff. But I suspect I’ll be in Moschino Funny! today, as soon as I drag it out of the cabinet (it’s a summer staple for me and I haven’t switched spring frags for summer yet).
It’s time!
CdG and Pharrell Williams Girl today. Is this still in production? It’s definitely got a winking CdG vibe, titled Girl and all woods and violet leaf. Potent stuff!
Twins! *high five*
Triplets! Go Team Girl 🙂
I am thinking it is out of production because fragrancenet is selling it for twenty dollars for the huge bottle.
I think it must be. CdG has it listed on their site, but when you go to the online purchase it says the page no longer exists.
You can still get it at the discounters and Amazon, but I guess it was a short lived production.
Bummer! I’m the kiss of death to so many products–from fabric softener to shampoo to fragrance, if I dig it, it’s not a huge seller. If you see me in the store, opening bottles to sniff things, don’t be shocked. I wonder how many here do that ????
Finally abiding by the community project today in CDG Blackpepper! And looking forward to spending a musical weekend in Carmel with my a cappella friends from grad school 🙂
Oh, that sounds like great fun. I hope you have a good weekend!
Have a great time!
From Antoine Lie I’ve probably got only one sample: Sécrétions magnifiques. So no thank you I’m not going to wear that…
Ha, please don’t.
I’m in Tom of Finland topped with Vétiver Tonka to keep it office appropriate. 😉
????
Fat Electrician! I love it.
Twins in lovely citrusy goodness!
OK, triplets!
Antoine Maisondieu for me with Tom Ford Shanghai Lily. I am really enjoying it.
You smell lovely! I must have missed that on the list…
Thanks! You didn’t, I don’t think it was included on the nst list.
Sampling Ma Bête which is heavily skanky on me and will probably need to be washed off by the time I get to work.
So skanky! It smells like spraying perfume on a dog
I’m sold ???? An old, wet dog?
I think my skank-ometer is weirdly calibrated. Ma Bête hit me as a lovely retro floral. When I read comments like yours, I wonder what others think as I waft and wander!???? Salome is the first thing in a while that made me consider that others could find it dirrrty.
It was seriously skanky when I tried an earlier version (dinner with BH and a bunch of other perfumistas before the perfumes launched)…way skankier than Salome.
No Antoines either, but I’m wearing Aqua Allegoria Mandarine Basilic by Guerlain; the citrus notes are so bright and uplifting, it’s my ‘happy happy joy joy scent’… 🙂
That is one of my summer faves – it is seriously so happy!
Odonata9, when the SF fog gets too much, I love to spritz this quite liberally (one of the few I actually spray more than three spritzes). Sunshine in a bottle as far as I’m concerned. It never overwhelms but has excellent staying power.
I love this one! It rescued me when I accidentally spritzed Terre d’Hermes instead of the Eau Fraiche flanker at Duty Free,.
Oh, well that must have given you a jolt!
Hinoki! So delightful.
Yes it is!
You smell great, I love that one.
Wearing Chypre Palatin for the first time…
It is quite good…not sure when this decant is from…a comment on Fragrantica says the bottle and formula appears to have changed this year maybe…I really should stop reading Fragrantica. 😉
I don’t have any MDCI fragrances but I know the bottles have busts…not sure what the bottle change is…please weigh in if you know.
I haven’t noticed a bottle change(I was recently at Osswald and they looked the same) and have no idea about formula change, but I do know that the bust is a pricey add on-you can buy a busty bottle for more or bustless bottle for less(than more). Hope that all makes sense 😉
Bwahaha!! Busty bottle is a cute image. (Le Male, anyone?) I think the folks at MDCI aiming for the neoclassical upmarket vibe would not like that moniker for their product. 😉
I have enough Chypre Palatin for a few lifetimes. I enjoy wearing it!
I’m so out of touch and circling in my own little orbit I didn’t know Rossy de Palma was an actual person and not just a perfume. At first glance, I thought the photo was Amy Winehouse. Duh me!????
SOTD Box of Eels. Just because I like it and I have a huge honkin’ bottle. And because it’s a good one for work related stress. It’s just good. Period.
Happy Friday ????
Hey girl, I didn’t know, either! I’m off to google…
And you smell great! I hope your day gets better. ????
I thought it was a drag queen doing Lady Gaga. 🙂
LOL!
At first glance, I thought, “Oh, is it Gaga’s birthday today?” ????
Ah, then you have some fantastic movies ahead of you!
Don’t have any Antoine unfortunately, so I’m wearing Gucci Guilty Absolute from a sample.
I don’t have any Antoine twin
SOTD = ELDO Bendelirious by Antoine Lie
… and it is making me deliriously happy. I should wear this more often! Imagine a cherry bellini, how could it not be fun?
I bet I have several twins today! Now back to work on this crazy Friday!
Love that name, it makes me think Ben Delirious must have been a great smelling guy. 😉
LOL. Comments mentioned poor to medium longevity. My 4 sprays is still chugging along like a champ!
I’m in Fat Electrician, from Antoine M., for only the second time ever. I love this! And a 30ml bottle is only $52 at Sephora, which is almost ‘free’, and I have a 10% off coupon code, so that brings it into perfumista free territory. Is my math correct? ????
Of course! Go for it!
I’m eyeing this too but as much as I love Fat Electrician it is not something I reach for often…
I was just wondering about that 10% code the other day. I don’t remember getting one. My recollection is that it was usually sent out after the fall sale? When/where did you get yours?
I received it via email, not snailmail, on 5/10. I received a reminder email on 5/30, and it expires on 6/9.
I got a 10% code after the fall sale, too…I had forgotten about that.
The verbage on the 5/10 email was that it was a “rouge thank you”, for what it’s worth. I think it was a one off.
Hello scent twin! You smell fantastic.
Thank you! I’m loving how this settles in as a mellow, woody scent.
In my liberal definition, it’s almost free. It is free if you thought about buying several other items, change your mind and end up getting only the one because you “saved” $x by not buying so you are using what you saved to buy the ELDO 🙂
Oh, I like how you think, hajusuuri!
I’m participating in the Friday project with several dabs of different scents. I have Tom of Finland on my right hand and Rossy de Parma on my left forearm. My right forearm has the remnants of CdG Daphne from an emptied-out sample tube. I didn’t remember the Daphne being so beautiful! The other two are “myeh” on me. The Rossy is too, I don’t know, just sour! Somewhere I have Noel au Balcon but can’t find my sample. I like it a lot and have come close to buying it. Of all the ones on the two Antoine lists that I’ve tried, none can come close though to my favorite, Luxe Patchouli. That’s up there in my all-time top five. I didn’t wear it today though because it’s warm and humid thunderstorm-y weather here today and it just isn’t right. But now I’m wishing I had a bit more Daphne left to play with!
I love Rossy de Palma on paper but on my skin it went all crazy and sour. So it’s not just you!
I love Daphne! It stayed for too long on my to buy list until it was discontinued and impossible to find 🙁
Me too. 🙁
HAPPY FRIDAY Y’ALL!!!
I’ve been lurking some, but mostly out of pocket while my office perfume grinch is on a 3 week fishing trip! (Makes for more work and less perfume talk!) 🙂
I had settled on Fat Electrician, but forgot to find it last night….and this morning the hubs was snoring soundly and I couldn’t bring myself to turn the light on! 🙂 So back in Pomelo Paradis….
hey, Jada! You’re wafting some of the best citrus ever today. 🙂 Your office grinch doesn’t know what he’s missing.
Absolutely right! The Atelier citrus scents are soooo authentic and good. (Bet the Grinch smells like fish and earthworms….) 🙂
Earthworms! Oh boy!
My husband once left a tub of king crawlers in my car and forgot all about it. It happened during hot summer days and the smell drove me nuts! I couldn’t figured out where it was coming from and thought that a mouse got in my car and died there. I was close…
SOTD = Sécrétions Magnifiques
KIDDING!
It’s summer in Florida; I’m wearing Parfum de Nicolai Parfum d’ete, and it is perfect!
House twins!
Perfume name twins! (I’m in the Kenzo)
Ha! You smell great.
Took today off, scheduled a few weeks ago. Beautiful weather! !!
I was determined to wear Burberry Brit Gold today, come h3ll or high water. Been looking for it everywhere. How it got in the downstairs hall closet is anyone’s guess.
Sandalwood and musk on my skin, FANTASTIC! 🙂
Triple strength coffee.
Maybe a glazed donut on Monday…….. LOL. 😉
Carpe Diem. Peace.
Cannonball! !!!!!!
😀
SCENT TWINS!!!! although I only managed to get a few vapors from my empty bottle…..did you ever try Brit Red? Equally as fantastic in a different way (rhubarb rhubarb rhubarb). Take care of that Gold because it truly is gold….very hard to find now.
I have half a bottle left of the Gold, it is wonderful!
I bought the Red and wore it 10-12 times before I gave up, I prefer the rhubarb in Thierry Mugler B*Men more.
I have a niece who is my Bizzarro perfume opposite. I gave it to her and she loves it.
Bad-bye !!
LOLOLOL
(Seinfeld/Superman reference! )
LOL
Cheers chocolatemarzipan8 !!
I loved them both and drained both but kept the empty bottles as references and vapor sprays….years ago when I wore Gold a coworker liked it so much that I bought her a bottle from fragrancenet as it became heavily discounted….I think I paid something like 25 dollars for the 1.7 oz….now they are selling on ebay for 10 times that amount-LOL!!!
cheers to you too bear! and you are smellin’ fantastic today 🙂
I hope you enjoyed your day off, Bear. You definitely picked a gorgeous one!
Thank you Jalapeno, I did !!
A bit red, skinwise, but Neutrogena Sesame Oil is a great quick moisturizer.
Enjoy your weekend !! 🙂
You smell great, I love Brit Gold and Brit Red.
Thanks !!
They should have been more popular than the original Brit EDP, in my opinion.
Completely forgot today was Friday. This week has been SO LONG that it seems like Friday should have been cancelled just to spite me. I have to work tomorrow anyway, so it doesn’t feel like the end of the week.
Anyway, I was craving White Linen and left the house in a glorious cloud of it. Promptly upon arrival to work I had to wrestle a large dog covered in urine and vomit. Second time this week I’ve spent the day smelling like a truck stop restroom. Did I mention it’s been a long week? 😉
Well, you smelled great for the part where you smelled like White Linen.???? Hang in there–the week’s almost over!
Oh, I’ve been in that wrestling match, too, but never twice in a week! Thank heaven your week is almost over!
wow! TGIF for you!
Were you able to shower at the clinic?
Nope, I forgot to replace my emergency scrubs so there was little point. I just washed what I could and tried not to get too close to any clients.
Is Mercury in retrograde or something? Murphy’s Law has been in full effect this week.
Happy Friday, NST!
My scent for today’s project is Antoine Lie’s Roxy Love, the bottle of which came in a basket of stuff I won in a drawing years ago. It’s not really my thing, so it’s wafting from behind my knees.
Have a lovely weekend, everyone!
Your comment made me laugh out loud. I love the idea of perfume that doesn’t quite make the grade being relegated to “behind the knees” status. BTK. For me today trying to write engagingly about helping organizations develop strategic plans, driving both of my kids hither and thither, wrestling a medical protocol for my son out of our school district, and running errands to the pharmacy and to get a belt for my youngest—all fall into the BTK category. My perfume? I’m enjoying it full on wrists and neck 🙂
Wearing Puredistance Black. I don’t really get this one, agree with those who think it’s just a basic frutcholi. (I got the Pd sample set, which considering their exorbitant prices is not a terrible deal — 2 ml each of all their scents for $65). Yesterday I wore Belle de Jour which I actually like better than most reviewers – it’s vintage in style but very light and airy in execution.
I’ve got a few Antoines, but I wanted another ELDO today: Fils de Dieu. Yummmm
I wore that earlier this week (my thought process being that it was Antoine-adjacent 😉 ) and man, is that stuff good. It’s one of the few perfumes in my collection that I enjoy equally in all 4 seasons (which I’ve always thought would be a good Community Project, btw.)
That is a good community project!!
For some reason Fils has been filed as a summer scent in my mind and this is the first time I’ve worn it this year. I think I just really love how bloomy it gets in the heat.
I bought a sample of it after I read your piece on summer scents for BdJ (in which you also recommended California Reverie, iirc. I now have bottles of both 🙂 )
I used to think of it as a winter perfume, but now it defies categorization as I wear it year-round. Different weather amplifies different facets, all equally gorgeous. (Plus it smells delicious on my husband. So A+ for versatility!)
Could you waft a little in my direction, please?
You smell fantastic. FdD is versatile AND unique, which is a difficult feat. It’s been on my FB list for ages. Maybe one of those 30 mL bottles…
SOTD is ELdO “Jasmin et Cigarette” by Antoine M.
Notes are apricot, tonka, musk, jasmine, cedar, tobacco, hay, amber and cumin.
Very nice and the ‘cigarette pack’ tobacco is a change from the usual pipe/ shag scents.
Have you smelled Habanita L’Esprit? It took me a while to pin down a hint of cigarette smoke in that one. Pipe tobacco isn’t really my thing, but apparently I’m okay with cigarettes 😉
Ya know? You’re right about that. There’s something the slightest bit lit cigarette in there…
Fumérie Turque. This is the dope.
It is! Have you got any Antoines?
Nope…
Ops, I actually have Kenzo Parfum d’Eté. But it’s too cold for that here today.
FT is glorious! My sample is gone and I hope to get a decant this fall.
Hope you get it. So satisfying.
Antoine-ing in Kenzo Parfum d’Ete, one of 3 perfumes I had in my collection at the turn of the century. Oddly, it smells totally different than I remember. I recalled a very green floral with a streak of lemon. Today I’m getting fruity floral. ?
Wearing it made me think of another pre-rabbit hole fave, Miss Pucci, which I sprayed under my wrist. This one is actually better than I remembered (and one I never, ever see mentioned on blogs.) I may have to put it back into rotation.
Oh, and had meant to say – what a great photo. (I recognized Rossy de Palma immediately, probably due in part to anticipating lots of peeps wearing it today. And also being a big fan of Pedro Almodóvar around the time I wore Kenzo Parfum d’Ete 😉 )
Comme de Garcons Black Pepper for me today!
I had more Antoine’s than I thought I would…especially from Antoine Maisondieu.
I have more than I thought too.
SOTD = a repeat of yesterday’s ELdO Fat Electrician. I liked it so much that I had to wear it again today! Maybe I will get to the other Antoine stuff I haven’t worn yet over the weekend…
It’s great in this heat. ????
It seems to play nicely with humidity, too. I’m glad for that!
You smell great, Jalapeno !
I found my mini of Fat Electrician ( I like the name !!) and will wear it soon.
Yes, it’s a great name.
I seem to be very light on Antoines, other than Eris Parfums Night Flower, which doesn’t seem quite right for this morning’s supermarket shopping. I’ll save that for the evening, and maybe go with Hermes Jour Absolu this morning.
That works.
Evening scent twins! You smelled great all day.
I have been so sick this week coughing up my giblets ( which fashionably match the pantone colour of the year ) and marvelling at the novel way eyeballs appear to sweat. The lowlight was taking the dogs for a walk on the hill … Pre dawn, in the rain….and running out of steam on the walk back up the hill to the car. I ended up having to rest, leaning against a log as big drops of water fell from the tree above, straight down my neck while the smaller dog helpfully tried to drink the drops of rain off my glasses. Wearing tiger balm and encouraging myself to buck up. Wonderoud later.
Blergh! That sounds horrible–the coughing of bits, not the tongue of dog!
Sorry to hear that, hope you’re on the mend.
Oh no! So sorry to hear that you are fighting what sounds like a super-sized version of The Crud. I hope to start to feel better ASAP.
Drat!!! “I hope you start to feel better ASAP”. Typing and keeping an eye on what the cats are doing are mutually exclusive tasks.
Oh no! Was this a ghastly Auckland germ that afflicted you? I hope that you’re better soon.
Hope you feel better soon, sounds dreadful.
Oh my! That is absolutely awful. I hope you are feeling better very soon.
I find it so interesting that our pets try to help us at the time we need them most.
OH no! Feel better soon!
Awful! I hope you feel better soon.
Prada Infusion d’Iris … no Antoines in my collection.
TGIF!!
I’m in good company this afternoon in Rossy de Palma! Keep on smelling fantastic, people 🙂
SOTE Burberry Brit Rythm Woman. This was perfect today, I should remember to wear this more often.
Chanel 19 edt. 6 sprays.
Perfect!
I spritzed on some Jasmin et Cigarette this morning. Some days this smells wonderful on me, some days it smells like a cat peed in a cold ashtray.
I thought I was having the first kind of day this morning, but now I suspect I’m having the second.
LOL!
Oh, dear.
Eating my toast commando but I’ll be wearing Commes des Garçons 8 88 from a sample shortly.
Mmmm…opens spicy pepper and then green woody. Nice but I’m not hanging out for a bottle of my own. Although it might be a bit cold today to do it justice. Might retry it in the spring.
I joined one or two of you in Tocca Brigitte today. The decant I have of that is shockingly the only one I have from either Antoine. My guy has a decant of Hinoki though that was mine before I decided I like it better on him.
Wearing the last of the generous sample of Eris Night Flower I got from Wendysue, who has truly excellent taste. It’s a lovely, rich, spicy oriental. I don’t really get tuberose, although this time, on a warm day, it did go through a stage where I smelled something a bit mentholated, like a much mellower version of the opening of Tubereuse Criminelle. I can’t really smell leather, either, just a warm, rich, somewhat animalic base. It gets quiet on me after about four hours, but is still definitely there. This perfume is cheering me up after a moderately lousy week, featuring several culinary mishaps, and the guy I’ve been seeing cancelling on me–again. At this point, even if it really is his mother he’s seeing instead of me, I may be out. Have a great weekend everyone, and I’ll be back to read everyone else’s choices after I make what I hope will be a decent curry.
And thank you, Robin, for posting the link to the 2014 version of next week’s project. I immediately thought of a perfume, and then started wondering if I’d worn it last time. Yup.
Well I forgot about syncing up today , I wore Gres Cabotine and overlayerd a unearthed find from a mish mash shelf some Healing Gardens Green Tea . Mmm.
I’ll sync late by wearing either First Premier Bouquet (floral probably more appropriate for a hot humid day tomorrow )or Burberry London for men ( love the port and mimosa notes! May end up wearing in the evening).
