Happy Sci-Fi Friday! Our community project for today: wear a fragrance that transports you to some alternative futuristic scenario, or that matches a favorite Sci-Fi novel or movie. Thanks to Solanace for the suggestion.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
This was a hard project! I wanted to wear something for Jean-Luc Picard or Captain Janeway, but I decided I didn't think either of them would wear fragrance (although hopefully some of you will disagree with me and I look forward to seeing your choices!). Captain Kirk would, but I'm fresh out of Mandom. So I'm wearing Lancôme La Vie Est Belle (not for long, but I am wearing it for the moment) for Terry Gilliam's Brazil.
Reminder: 2/3 will be Lemming Friday — you acquired a sample because you kept hearing about it (here or elsewhere), now you think you might just have to buy the bottle. A variation on a theme suggested by SheriG.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2017, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
I’ve been dipping in and out of the project this week. Here goes:
No-brainer Monday, Prada, Amber Pour Homme.
Tuesday, L’Artisan Parfumeur, Fou d’Absinthe. I reckon this is what Guardians of the Galaxy’s Groot smells like. (That might be a superhero theme though – have we done that yet Robin? Heck, we could stretch that out to two weeks, Superheroes and/or their alter egos the first week, Supervillains the next.)
Wednesday, Donna Karan, Fuel for Men. In a couple of episodes of the brilliant Farscape (and I had such a crush on Ben Browder…) they used the original, sculptural bottle as a grenade!
Thursday, L’Artisan Parfumeur, Tea For Two. I hadn’t worn it in a while and just had a craving for it.
And today I’m fully committing by scenting one of my favourite SciFi/horror movies; Ridley Scott’s Alien. It’s all here: the cold steel of the ship; the metallic acid blood of the alien; the tinny whiff of blood as that monstrous, (and frankly phallic – any ideas where this is going yet?), toothy, little midnight courgette explodes from the torso of hapless incubator Kane; the milky fluid seeping from the decapitated android Ash; the dripping saliva of the relentless extra terrestrial killer; the cold isolation of space; the stench of fear, panic and horror… SOTD, Etat Libre d’Orange, Secretions Magnifique. (Oh yes, I did!)
Happy Friday everyone!
Wow! You are Ripley-level brave.
I was thinking that too.
Anyone know a good therapist? 😉
WOW!!!!! Good one!!!! (not the scent, the idea! LOL)
LOVE that movie. Bravo! I’ve not smelled that one, but I totally get where you with it.
This is perfect! And thumbs up to superhero/supervillain days.
I admire your courage! You are the winner!
Did you actually commit to LEAVING it on skin?!?! ????????
Wow.. You win.
ALL day. It’s coming off when I shower later, eleven and a half hours (!) will be quite enough thank you very much.
You’re the bravest perfumista I know Bob 🙂 (and the only person I know who’s actually worn it long enough to know how long it lasts!)
Brilliant pairing!
I was trying to think of a scent for Ripley all week and came up blank! This is the one, though. I actually have a sample of it, but I don’t think I have the nerve to wear it . . .
Well done!
Damn – that is committing to a project !!!!!
Love the movie and your write-up (and I hope nothing happens to your water heater, and you’ll get your shower 😉 )
Oh god. I hadn’t thought of that 😮
“In the bathroom, no-one can hear you scream”
That’s hilarious.
BRAVO! 🙂
Well done! Definitely a good match but not sure many will enjoy being around you today.
U are brave Bob!, can really imagine the horror!, (and love the superhero/super villain idea!)
Possibly more foolhardy than brave!
I won’t say, “You smell great!” But, BobH, you nailed this project!
????Holy Horror Flick Batman! ????
I bow at your feet- That’s serious commitment Bob!
Wishes for a good hot shower at the end of your day. Let us know what that was like all the way through.
As of now this will forever be: BobHarrowingGreatnessDay
Just perfect!
I love Secretions Magnifique, it’s beautiful stuff.
Did you go to the gym to workout today?
Yay, sci-fi Friday! Brazil is a great choice. I went with Slumberhouse Vikt, which I’ve decided is the exact smell of the klah beverage they drink in the Dragonriders of Pern series. Which definitely shades into fantasy, but whatever. I will be so sad when my decant of Vikt is gone.
I considered honoring the Pern series as well, but couldn’t come up with a scent to match.
Most of my ideas veered into fantasy rather than sci-fi. Have we done a fantasy Friday? Myth Friday? Fairytale Friday? All of those I could come up with this week with no trouble.
I am with you! Not a big fan of sci-fi, but fairytales is another story, not only I do love reading books to children, but also enjoy them myself.
Humiecki&Graef Eau Radieuse. I have already worn it for another challenge here, but it fits the theme so well that I chose it as a SOTD again. A futuristic smell, futuristic bottle, and even the scent’s official description mentions ‘futuristic’.
Besides, it is just what I needed today – something refreshing and energizing to clear away the cobwebs.
I love it when fragrances fit multiple Friday projects!
Neytiri: Sky People cannot learn, they do not see. Sky People cannot learn, you do not See.
Channelling Zoe Saldana from Avatar in Interlude Woman, Amouage.
The green and metallic notes remind me of what you may smell on the moon Pandora. I also get amber, musk and sweetness.
Great choice! Here’s one sci-fi reference I do get. And I love the idea of her in an Amouage in that earthy environment.
Nicely done! I wondered if this scent would make an entry for today because it is very unique and can be love/hate with some people.
Excellent pairing!
I really have to be in the mood for this one. I love Neytiri in Amouage as well, especially this one, because it is a bit different.
In addition to being a great sci-fi, Avatar has such a great message. Must rewatch again soon!
Nicely done, indeed!
I am wearing CdG Odeur 71, which smells both human and machine in equal parts. The perfect scent for cyborg cosplay, though real cyborgs probably smell like Coco Mademoiselle.
🙂
great pick!
“real cyborgs probably smell like Coco Mademoiselle.” Wow, that amused me! I appreciate the humor.
Lots of CdG scrnts smell like something from the future: maybe not a future you’d want to live in, though. The entire Synthetic line fits the bill.
SOTD= Kerosene’s R’Oud Elements, augmented with a drop of Memo’s Sham’s Oud. This is what the vehicles of the Sufi mystics wandering around Mars in Kim Stanley Robinson’s tour de force Mars series would smell like inside. And of course the people too….healing meditative agarwood with just a whiff of gasoline..This was a highly entertaining exercise. I thought about wearing Dune, because that is what the Harkonnen palace smells like in Dune. Or LADDM because that is how the Fremen smell out in the dunes of Dune. Or Alien, even though I don’the have any now.
You had fun with this one!
Most of my science fiction reading was back in the 80s. I have no idea what’s going on with SF now.
Ah, the 80’s. Who are some of your favorite authors?
Oops, veering away from perfume…What do you think your favorite authors smell like? LOL.
Agarwood and gasoline – I think this would’ve done well as a scent for Mad Max as well. Maybe something Furiosa would wear.
Good ideas!
I can’t even wrap my head around this week’s theme. I haven’t read much science fiction, so I just went for the perfume that felt exactly right for me this morning: Bois de Violette. It’s been awhile since I last reached for it, but it’s singing to me today. Heavenly.
I couldn’t do this weeks theme either. Didnt have a clue about how to go about the theme, either, so you’re not alone. You smell fantastic!
Thanks! Good to know I’m not the only one who’s lost on this one. ????
I know, eh? What ARE these people talking about?:)
Just as well, you have head room for more important information.. 🙂
🙂
Lol! I could definitely say this as well. What the heck are these people talking about!
Star Trek is my only sci fi exposure, and I mainly watch that to get into my husband’s world. I look at that show, and Captain Kirk especially, as good leadership & management training. He is an excellent example of a good leader.
CdG Soda, a chemical spill in a 7-Up factory. Smells like something phosphorescent out of Fritz Lang’s Metropolis.
Perfect! I wish I had minis of the whole Synthetic series.
Excellent!
Happy Friday Everyone. Off to physical therapy this morning. Its chilly here this morning (winter is attempting to show its face now). Our seasons are all screwed up, but all those visiting here for the SuperBowl will be pleased with our weather. SOTD is Montale’s Intense Cafe. Enjoy the weekend everyone!
I’m in an ancient alien concoction that humans have tried, but failed to reproduce, due to the rare beautiful ingredients the aliens had access to. The aliens are not known for being overly sentimental about the concoction. It was merely one of a number of potions they have created: Vintage No. 19.
Yes, I totally just made up my own sci-fi story for it.
Six thumbs up.
Lol, thank you.
Brilliant. 😀
Yup- that’s where I’m going. You smell great!
Oh – good one! No 19 is in it’s own galaxy. But…. I’d have Madeleine Stowe as the bewildered Dr. Kathryn Railly from 12 Monkeys wearing it for sure!
Ooooh, I can picture that too. Nice!
I like this story! And should humanity survive in the next couple of years, then I think many of our foods and concoctions would be equally alien.
Haha, so true (and scary to think about).
Perfect!
Are you going to make it into a screenplay yourself? Do you think will be playing the main character? 😉
I’m a manga fan, so either that format or a graphic novel would be my medium of choice. I actually prefer being on the outside of the story looking in on it as a spectator/narrator. There’s something quite delectable about seeing stories unfold before you and not being directly involved.
Hooray for making your own story!
Kudos to you for making your own story! ????
As I am completely clueless about science fiction as well, I just chose something to got with winter: Noir Epices.
Tea is a First Flush Darjeeling.
‘go with’ that is
Noir Epices is kissing cousins to my Coco! You smell great!
CDG Stephen Jones today, violets growing on a blasted lavascape.
Alternatively, the possible smell of Pris, dressed as a killer bride doll in “Blade Runner.”
Question: does anybody else find the maniacal-looking family in the illustration frightening? No? Just me?
Blade Runner reference! *swoon* have you seen the new teaser trailer for the upcoming movie?
The illustration above actually kinda makes me think of a game my husband plays: Fallout.
My ex plays fallout- so much fun to watch. I’m totally inept at computer games so watching him play it was very entertaining
Yep. The hubs is a gamer and I’m the anime/manga fan. I watch him play games and occasionally he’ll watch an anime movie with me.
They look like they’ve been watching too much Mad Max…
Not just you. Among others, check out the sight line, expression, and hand location of the boy in the back. He’s definitely getting ready to push that dog out the window.
They’re definitely creepy. The strange shading in their skin tones reminds me of zombies.
Shaking my head yes here- my first thought too. I do think it fits in a creepy/ funny aliens trying to fit into the 50’s culture thingie.
That was one of my top 3 choices for today!
Pris!!! good one!
Mmmm. This is on my buy list; I’m waiting until I feel rich, which could take a while . . .
I like your thinking/matching!
SOTD: Bvlgari Black.
This is Princess Leia’s scent. She smells vanilla princess sweet, but there’s that background rubbery scent from sitting in the Millenium Falcon and hiding in the tool compartment……
HAPPY FRIDAY! May the Force be with you! 🙂
May the Force be with you.
Woot! I knew this scent would be here today. Excellent reference for it!
Love it! I had totally thought of this for a different character and movie (Neo, Matrix), but it can work well for so much sci-fi.
PERFECT for Matrix and Neo!!!! I love The Matrix!!!!! 🙂
It’d be perfect for Darth Vader and the Death Star too…
Yo, I did Black for the Matrix trilogy on Wednesday (as a repeat of the At the Movies challenge from last year)!
Twins. Also, when flung correctly, the bottle could be a weapon.
It’s easy to kill stormtroopers anyway…..HA HA HA 🙂
Great scent pairing!
Great pairing!
“I am one with the Force. The Force is with me.” ????
Indeed!!!!! Bravo!!!! 🙂
Ah, Brazil the movie, how timely!
I was planning vintage Fleurs de Rocaille Extrait for General Leia Organa, but… My Régime des Fleurs Falling Trees bottle just arrived, and I had to wear it. Wow! This is a VERY nice incense perfume with woody undertones. Reminds me of CdG Avignon, with some Fille en Aiguilles and a little Chêne finely weaved within. Or incense tears and pencil shavings. Very nicely blended, and long lasting, too! Even the bottle and cap are good looking and heavy. Thank you, Robin and Régime des Fleurs, for the draw. Now, would General Organa wear it? I’d say she would, this is very classy, there is some austerity to it but it’s comfortable, too, like a pair of good boots. But it’s very me, with the vegetal inteligence backstory and all, so sorry General Organa, but today I’m just imagining myself as a valiant, loyal and stylish soldier fighting for the Revolution in a galaxy far, far away.
Ooh that sounds nice..
“Incense tears” – sign me up.
me three, I definitely want to smell this now…
SF SotD: Mugler Cologne. With its almost laughable artificiality and weirdly space age bottle, this fragrance strikes me as a plausible product of the Star Trek replicator. Surely, Jean Luc occasionally wore cologne when off duty and in that snazzy lounge wear of his. Perhaps he ordered “cologne, Thierry Mugler, 2ml” then, along with his “tea, Earl Grey, hot?”
SF B(ook)otD: IM Banks’ Excession. Purely by coincidence, and after a 10-year lapse, I’m now binge re-reading all of Banks’ Culture novels. Such an excellent series.
For some reason the movie that Mugler Cologne reminds me of is City of Lost Children, rowing on the dark water all creepy and wierd.
Nice!
Excellent!
I love the culture series too. I have them all and occasionally re-read them.
I’m surprised I do not see more Mugler’s perfumes in comments: I thought most perfumes from the line were made for this community project!
Nice! If I had a replicator, my perfume collection would be terrifying…
I am also in a Mugler scent because the line just seems alien-friendly, no? I’m wearing A*Men Pure Malt.
SOTD Shiseido Rose Royale. I found a decant on super-discount and blind-bought it. This is my first heavy testing (more than a teeny spritz when it first arrived). Can a rose be both oppulant and light? That is my sense of it. It is a full bloom, with some cosmetic powder in the base, but it isn’t a sillage-monster at all–which is probably good, since I’ll be in meetings at least half of the day!
Oh I haven’t heard of this is it current? If so I may have to mosey on by the Shiseido counter to try it..
My understanding when I bought it is that it was discontinued long ago, but I admit, I haven’t confirmed that.
Sigh. Wouldn’t be surprised. Haven’t smelled a really nice Shiseido frag for a while…
Marjorie Rose – Another example of ethereal beauty is Shiseido’s Murasaki, with notes of incense, gardenia, peony, galbanum.
Sci-fi isn’t really my thing and I had planned to wear Eden for its green strangeness- but I forgot.
BUT! I did buy something perfume related that kinda fits the bill. A GIANT factice of Rochas Byzance. I saw it advertised and had to have it it’s so fabulously unreal. It cost me the price of a bottle of perfume but I have many of them but no HUMONGOUS PLASTIC BLUE AND GOLD PERFUME BOTTLES! It’s 72cm/34inches tall and almost as wide and I laugh with delight when I see it on top of the cabinet that holds my perfume collection. Perfume bottles the size of a medium dog is kinda sci-fi for me 🙂
Oh and wore Cristalle/no5 l’eau from the Chanel counter this morn and Roma Imperiale this evening.
Oh my – you could almost use that factice as a pool float!
Oh I could! The gold disk in the middle would actually hold my floating cocktail rather nicely 🙂
So cool. Enjoy looking at your giant Byzance bottle!
Perthgirl, you made my day. Thanks. 🙂
That is so awesome! It’s great to have items that make you smile just by looking at them.
Fabulous! It’s such a great looking bottle. I have no idea how it smelled but I keep watching the minis on ebay just for the bottle.
The Hal of your perfume world! hey, we have Essano rosehip products in our supermarket (but no testers) so the search is still on.
Maybe Im just naughty Kanuka but I just unscrew the pump top and take a whiff of the contents 🙂
They have a big range but the body lotion is the only one I love.
Our Priceline has them too so Im not sure if you have an equivalent?
Mandom – hah! You’re absolutely right, Robin. 😀
I wanted to wear something that would evoke Sean Young as Rachael in Blade Runner, but had some trouble. I finally settled on vintage Tabac Blond, in keeping with her retro hairdo and clothes (and smoking habit), but then realized that in her world it would have to have been a replica (like her), and fake Tabac Blond is just blasphemy. So I’m backing into the project by wearing L’AP Bucoliques de Provence. The smoked-amber bottle is the color of her world when she meets Deckard, and the actual fragrance could be the scent of the world she and Deckard fly off to at the end. Okay, I tried. 😉
I always like retro-futurism. Sean Young is gorgeous! You could have nabbed her from Dune too!
TGIF. I am not participating in the project today. I have been so busy that I did not have the chance to think about it. It is so amazing and fun to read everybody’s choices. Smelling good anyway in Shalimar Extrait.
you do smell good!
I loved this communal SOTD!
I had all these ideas percolating around–Bulgari Black for The Matrix, Wood Sage and Sea Salt for A Wizard of Earthsea, anything camphor-y for My Neighbor Totoro…
And in the end, I had a complete brain fog this morning, and reached for Mugler’s Alien, just for the name, because I couldn’t remember any of my good ideas before coffee.
Oh! I could have worn my Alien Essence Absolue! Darn it!
Twins! I don’t really have a reference other than the bottle and the name. I did have to spray very lightly as I had preschoolers for music class this morning and I didn’t want to blast them away.
Has anyone read The Sparrow? Quite a lot of the plot has to do with scent, and how some of the aliens gather flowers to distill scent, and how all of the aliens love the smell of coffee.
OMG, that is one intense book. And very high brow for SF. I highly recommend it. It is guaranteed to freak you out, tho. Read with caution. I found the sequel a bit of a let down. I keep meaning to read something else by her, but my list is too long as it is…
I found it a real page-turner as I was going through it. But after I finished, it made me more and more annoyed. It seemed to be such a church-apologist book. I’ve liked it less the more time has passed.
That is an intense book. I have mixed feelings about it. Those aliens such did like their perfumes though, so I can get behind that.
The themes in The Sparrow resonated with me for years, I couldn’t get it out of my head. I finally made my book group read it so I would have people to talk with about it.
Missionistra-I don’t know that one but I’m going to go look at it. I like books that make me think.
It’s interesting that the author decided they liked scent and coffee.
Bvlgari Omnia Indian Garnet. I’m sorry I can’t be more creative with the theme. I do love reading everyone else’s responses though 🙂
You can pair Indian Garent with Life of Pi? Perhaps “Pi” Patel would smell a little of saffron mixed with tuberose and jasmine smells of India.
Yay! I’m in with the theme today! Thanks Lovestosmellgood!!!
In Salvador Dali Pour Homme, which smells like one of those lush jungle planets on Futurama, the ones with all the crazy flora and fauna. Not the Amazon women one, though – they wouldn’t want any Pour Homme garbage . . .
Ha! (“Snoo-snoo!”)
One of my favorites! My knowledge of sci-fi is thin, but I love Futurama.
Of course, with Futurama you can double down on sci-fi with one of my favorite episodes: “Where No Fan Has Gone Before” (the Star Trek one).
I love Futurama, too. I was trying to think of what Fry and Leela would wear, but on second thought, I don’t think that would be a great-smelling bunch of characters. Maybe Demeter Paperback for Hermes and his stacks of forms.
SotD = Eau des Merveilles because where ever in the universe you go, you’ll want water. Might as well smell fabulous too.
Movies: The Abyss, Waterworld, Deep Blue Sea, and Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. That’s my Friday evening sorted.
Live long and smell fantastic, NST.
great choice!
You smell great. Very logical choice!
Excellent, tiffanie!
OMG, Star Trek IV is total quote machine!
I am wearing Miller Harris’s Rose en Noir and reminiscing about Blade Runner. Rose en Noir captures Rachel’s retro/dark future vibe very well.
I was “this close” to wearing Rose en Noir today! One of my fav winter fragrances – nothing quite like it.
I really like Rose en Noir too, it’s also lovely layered with L’Air de Rien.
My scent of the day is Myrrhiad, a favorite I haven’t worn in too long. It always feels dark, a little mysterious and beautiful – the same feel as the universe looked in the Jodie Foster movie, Contact.
Happy Friday, all. I couldn’t be happier that it’s almost the weekend.
I love Contact. One of a very small handful movies I saw twice in the theater . . .
Lovely! Your description also makes me think of the scene at the end with the twinkling quartz or mica bits among the sand in Ellie’s hand.
Brazil is just a fantastic movie!, and not enough people have ever seen it. Very relevant right now. I wasn’t paying attention today, so my SOTD is Coco by Chanel, just because. But if I were to tie it to one of my fav sci-fi movies of all time, it would be Dark City – dark, confusing, passionate, broken, hopeful, timeless.
We re-watched it recently, and keep meaning to re-watch Baron Munchausen.
Oh! Dark City is such a great movie! I love that one!
Recently my husband was watching High Castle and saw Rufus Sewell in it and immediately said “It’s the guy from Dark City!” He seriously does not look like he’s aged a day since then!
You smell lovely.
I made Lovetosmellgood’s delicious scones early this morning and the DH thought I had been replaced by an alien! I didn’t have clotted cream, but I tried them with a little peach yogurt ( mixed with organic plain so it’s not too sweet) . It did have a jam and cream sensibility to it.
Later, I will wear Chanel Beige for the project. It’s quite proper and exudes confidence with controlled elegance, radiance, and grace. A futuristic fragrance for today :- D .
😀
YAY! I am glad you made them.
The batch I made is all gone…(I think my hubby is responsible for that)
I served mine with butter and raspberry jam.
How did yours come out? Not as sweet as the “american style”
They were acceptably close to the Fortnum and Mason ones (considering the cook), and had a buttery flakey crumbly texture rather than being a spongy muffin thing like a lot of American ones. They are a good vehicle for the toppings, which is how I prefer them.
Spongy muffiny scones? That’s just plain wrong 🙁
That recipe is pretty similar to our old Country Women’s Association and Golden Wattle Cookbook versions- the 2 classics of old school living-off-the-land cooking. With jam and cream like a proper Devonshire Tea 🙂 yum.
My partner hasn’t seen Brazil yet, and so it’s the next movie in our Netflix queue. Funny — I’ve never thought of Terry Gilliam’s movies as sci-fi, but in a wonderful sort of genre of their own. Why the man hasn’t won an Oscar yet I have no idea.
I went non-sci-fi today, since I’ll be working outdoors and in close pickup truck quarters with a colleague, so I’m in Malibu Lemon Blossom and dreaming of spring. At least the sun is out today — I’d almost forgotten what it looked like!
I have Malibu Lemon Blossom lotion, and it is very pretty and uplifting.
Warn your partner that they’ll be crying by the end!
Brazil is dystopian sci fi, for sure, or “future noir” if you prefer.
You smell great!
Read the Red Rising Trilogy with my older son a year or so ago, so was thinking of Amouage’s Gold for Darrow when he is transformed… But I couldn’t find a drop of Gold, so then was thinking back to the many scifi books I read with my youngest, and The True Meaning of Smekday (great book for 10 year olds, NOTHING like the movie at all!) came to mind. I could see Tip holding on to an old bottle of perfume of her mother’s which would be something classic but not too expensive, like Roma.
Ok. I did try. SOTD is Majda Bekkali Fusion Sacree Elle for Soylent Green. I thought the opening fleshy green of rhubarb and celery could fit. The drydown is a rich buttery vanilla. Smells sort of like food, but maybe of something not quite for eating.
I’m loving reading everyone’s choices! Makes me wish I loved sci-fi…
Great! I had forgotten about Soylent Green.
Thanks! My sci-fi references are old.
Ooh, I like your pick/ logic! Great choice.
Thanks! And I’m actually really really liking this one. It’s been languishing in the “not so sure” sample pile.
Eeeww.. forgot how creepy that movie was. ????
Always happy to remind ????
And there goes my appetite. ????
Nothing that some fava beans and a nice chianti won’t fix ????????
In my mind, science fiction landscapes are practically always deserts, but I thought I should wear something today that I wouldn’t wear normally.
Went with House of Cherry Bomb Pink Haze, which has notes of lilac, mouget, gardenia, stone, metal, cedar wood, honeysuckle, and beeswax absolute. It definitely smells like metal–specifically silver-toned metal with very fine ridges–like a subway car, or perhaps a spaceship.
I’m walking the streets of Metropolis in Tom Ford Soleil Blanc. The Sun has almost burnt out entirely and people try to harvest the last of the sputtering rays. It’s a hot day.I’m in a copper suit and steeltoe boots. And I smell radiant on my way to the shuttle waiting to take me back to Mars.X
My second choice would be L’Heure Bleue….For that epic “Dune” of course!Hot sand and Cinnamonto trade.Wonderful.
Nice choices, haven’t tried soleil Blanc yet, but can imagine it’s great on a crisp winters day.
I tried it last year and it went straight on the “buy” list
Wow, what good choices! And yes, walking the winter streets with Soleil Blanc sounds perfect, and since it’s a lovely scent, the shuttle riders would not mind! 🙂
Classic sci-if choice!
Ha ha, I have a good one I think. My taste runs to horror more than sci-fi and so I had a hard time choosing. Some of the options were the Creature from the Black Lagoon (I mean the actual CREATURE not the humans–imagine the mossy, fishy possibilities!), the Pod People from Invasion of the Body Snatchers (fougeres), and others. But I went with the scent for the divinely suave alien Michael Rennie in The Day the Earth Stood Still, and I am wearing Frank Los Angeles No. 1. An ultimate suave masculine. (It was that or Jicky.)
Nice! The Day the Earth Stood Still is fantastic. It’s depressing how relevant it still is, too.
Me : So the white plastic armor guys are the good guys?
Horrified friends (in unison) : The stormtroopers ? NO ! You can meet us after the movie at the restaurant.
Phew !!! That was close! !! LOLOLOL 😉
To each their own.
Cuir de Lancome.
😀
Carpe Diem. Peace.
Hahaha! I’ll join you at the restaurant 😉 And you smell terrific!
LOL! And you smell terrific!
That’s beautiful. I remember being puzzled as a kid that the storm troopers were bad guys, too. I thought they were pretty and should therefore be good. Also, you smell lovely. Cuir de Lancome was my first favorite leather. It’s so lush and cozy.
Hahaha! That’s great. You smell fantastic.
Here hee, I’ll join u and Elisa at the restaurant too.
You smell fantastic! Bear, here’s a suggestion: try turning Star Wars movies into a drinking game where you drink every time Stormtroopers can’t hit what they’re shooting at! ????
SOTD is “El Born” from Carner Barcelona, so you can tell I struck out on the Community project. It’s a gourmand. Over the last year, to my surprise, I found I don’t love most of them and this is no exception.
That’s two strikes then! Sorry.
I didn’t love this one either. It didn’t smell bad to me, I just thought it was flat and boring(and too sweet).
1) Happy Friday, guys! Will be pricing out repair jobs and then going to Home Despot- er, I mean Depot- for checking out carpet samples!
2): “I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.”
I love sci fi and speculative fiction novels, but one of my very favorite films ever, ever, ever is Blade Runner. It is, to me, an unexpected and yet beautiful adaptation of “Do androids dream of electric sheep”. Like Anne Rice, I was drawn to the character of Roy Batty, but not (just) for his looks; he is the cold synthetic heart of the film, more than Deckard, more than Rachel. Roy wants memories, wants connections, wants love. He, more than anyone else in the film, understands what life is, truly is- and wants more of it.
For Roy, I am wearing Ether Oxyde (from a sample), a woody skin/white musk scent. It’s a close approximation of a human skin scent, of what you would smell when giving an embrace. I think that Roy would appreciate an embrace, a true one, in a world in which the ersatz and alternative have been made paramount.
Excellent! “Like tears in rain” explains so many things…
I remember being that line really sticking with me, and wondering why ever so often. Now, that I am older and with my parents and foster sister gone, it has taken on a concrete meaning: how ephemeral life is, and how utterly important connections and memories in life are.
yes, you said that beautifully…
So beautifully thought through, Ede97005. The connection you make between movie, quote, character, character motivation, and RW fragrance is simply perfect.
Thank you so much! I am going to re-watch the film this weekend.
Unfortunaty, I’ll have to read today’s comments later.
I chose Indochine for it’s honey note. It makes me think of Orson Scott Card’s novel, Ender’s Game. The enemies are a colony of creatures who look like bees that want to colonize earth and remove human life. Still one of my favorite sci fi novels, although I read it many years ago. I may be cheating because I can’t remember if the book identified the enemy as bees or if I thinking of the movie. Happy Friday!
The aliens were more like ants! But you smell lovely none the less!
Ah well, the insects are bees in the movie.
Petunia I loved this book and I like your pairing a lot!
Thanks missyl! ???? It wasn’t one of my most inspired pairings but it’s been a hectic week and I didn’t have much time. I sortof chose it on the fly this morning.
Bas de Soie today, which isn’t normally a winter scent, or one I wear often, for that matter. Channeling Dr Crusher in TNG…not in one of the standard jumpsuits that everyone wore, but as a femme fatale in the episode where they went back in time–an homage to a similar episode in the original series. A stretch, I know!
The sleek rainy darkness of Encre Noir goes well with both The Matrix and Blade Runner.
Perfect!
Brilliant, wish I’d thought of that one!
Mr. Aparatchick is the sci-fi fan in our household, so here’s how our morning conversation went:
Me: I need a suggestion. What’s a fragrance that transports you to some alternative futuristic scenario, or that matches a favorite Sci-Fi novel or movie?
Him: Don’t try to get me into your cult.
SOTD = L’air du Desert Marocain, a cult favorite. 😉
Ha! Priceless…
You made me snort my tea! Lol!
Hysterical.
I love that!!!
LOL. Thanks for that.
LOL! He saw right through the evil plan!
LOL! That’s great. Sounds just like my hubs as well.
Hee hee, this response sounds familiar!
Fantastic. I think he wins.
Hahahaha! Mr. Lizbee will be pleased to know he’s not the only one who thinks we’re all nutso.
Hilarious!
Too funny:)
Perfect!
Too funny!
I’m wearing Jessica McClintock today to honor my Sci-fi loving husband who adores this scent. Maybe Princess Leia would enjoy the scent of lily of the valley as well?
It’s Friday! Yay!
Awwww. Too sweet!
I agree – what a sweet thing to do!
Cristalle today for Princess Leia…
A Woman’s Place is in the Resistance.
Truth.
You smell regal. And Amen.
🙂
Nice. I tried but failed to think of anything for Leia.
Me, too. All I could think of was “white.”
Oh, that works!
I’m with you, General Organa. And Cristalle is great.
“A Woman’s Place is in the Resistance” — I’ll say. Now more than ever.
I have 2 perfumes created to make you think of a fantasy of the future, down to the design of the bottle–Nu and Kenzo UFO. I’m wearing the second, because it might actually smell like it, too…
Twins!
I think we smell pretty great though I find this is pretty low projection/sillage, no one else ever wears this one, so you’re the first I have the opportunity to ask if you think the same?
Yep. It’s pretty much a skin scent at this point (just a couple of hours after applying). According to Fragrantica, the inspiration was ‘marble dust’, which I can see.
I only have four scents with me on this trip, so not a lot of choice. Trying to think of the scent of the beautiful, loving creatures that tend to Meg in A Wrinkle in Time. Probably only one with me that is close is Angel Muse. Comforting, cozy and delicious.
Or…if I had it with me Aliage. Only because that scent evokes a lot of memories for me. I’d link it to the current movie Arrival, both for its greenness and concept of memory.
Miss L’Engle… such a gift!
Smelling good!
Hope you’re travels have been good.
*your* 🙂
Oh well done Lizzie B! That is of my other favorite childhood sci fi books! I loved the kindly comforting aunt Beast. I think that Abfke Muse description works pretty well! ❤
Excellent choice and pairing. Oh, how I love that whole series of books. I’m anticipating the new movie version Disney’s producing!
Oh, I really have to re-read that! It’s been decades!
Finally! Something I have read! Hmm, I could have thought of The Giver too. Apparently I stopped reading sic-fi in grade 7.
Ha! I must re-read the book!
I don’t have enough imagination for the Friday project, but I’m sort of participating by wearing Histoires des Parfums 1828 (Jules Verne) in honor of the originator of science fiction literature.
Very good participation! I didn’t know there was a perfume for Jules Verne! I’ll have to look that up!
Ok so to tie today’s theme into my week o’ Zoologist, I am wearing Rhinoceros. The reason is there is a race of alien mercenaries in Doctor Who who have human-like bodies with rhinoceros-like heads. I forget what they’re called. It’s also a really nice leather, and I can sort of imagine the first Doctor (William Hartnell) wearing something like this.
You could even make a case that the Ionesco play is sci-fi!
Ah good point. I admin I haven’t read it, but I’ll check it out.
Jadoon…my son has all the Dr Who books and DVds. Great match!
Oops (spelling) Judoon
I thought this over and came up with ideas all week. Here’s what I decided on and some other ideas for pairings:
SOTD is CB I Hate Perfume Cradle of Light for the pod plants and flowers of the 1978 version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers. The scent is super fluorescent green with white floral supporting notes. Smells like a space plant all right. Plus, the perfume is super pricey and I have only 0.25ml so I rarely wear it. Seemed like the perfect occasion.
I also thought Olympic Orchids Tropic of Capricorn would work for the pod plants.
Other thoughts for the theme are to give Ripley a musky, animalic scent. I thought I’d PdE Musc Tonkin though it’s probably not dirty enough, or DSH Rendezvous, which, while skanky is still too polished for Ripley. Maybe SL Muscs Koublai Khan. Also, Fahrenheit 451 requires a perfume that smells of burning books. Maybe CBIHP In the Library layered with Blackbird Taiga.
Lastly, I’m re-reading The Handmaid’s Tale and found some perfume references. Offred used to wear Opium before she became a handmaid. And Serena Joy, the Commander’s wife wears lily of the valley.
I also just got this text from my significant other. I told him about the theme and all of my ideas.
“I did a weird combo for sci fi day, hopefully I don’t smell bad hehe.”
After I asked him what he chose:
“My inspiration was Blade Runner, so I put on some Bulls Blood for that metallic smell like a replicant, then I layered Hinoki over it, because the sets are inspired by Japan, so I thought a replicant might get an oriental incense at a market stall to try to cover their inhuman scent.”
Sounds like someone’s SO has not resisted the cult 😀
Ha, nope! He certainly isn’t in the cult like I am, but he’s a sci-fi fan and a creative writer to boot. This one was up his alley. He does sometimes participate in the Friday community project if he can easily think of the right scent.
Cute! I love that your SO participated!
Invasion of the body snatchers is a super fun movie pick. Love it! And your SO sharing your perfume interests like that and taking part of the community project with such verve is just sweet.
Wow- great job! I particularly like the 1978 Body snatcher pairings. ????
Thanks! Now I’m in the mood to watch the movie. ????
I’m wearing L’Heure Bleue to evoke the sadness of the house in “There Will Come Soft Rains” by Ray Bradbury. The empty, mechanical home still trying to serve the dead humans always makes me feel melancholy.
Man, I love Ray Bradbury so much.
Ever have a week that you think will be normal but suddenly goes bonkers? That’s been my week. I’ve read the comments but have had no chance to comment or say hi – hi! Oh well, the end is in sight and the weekend approaches.
Hope next week is calmer for u!, and have a nice weekend.
That story is one of the greatest, ever. Even if you hate sci-fi, it’s powerful and moving.
Hope your week settles down Sistine. I think that perfume works well-I ove that Bradbury.
The Martian Chrinicles and I Sing the Body Electric stayed with me for years.
Wonderul choice. I’m recently fallen in love with L’Heure Bleue, and I love that Bradbury story. All Summer in a Day is another one that gets me every time.
Yep, me too.
Your choices are perfect, and yes. Ray Bradbury, what an author. I can picture what I was doing while reading most of his stories and books, they were game changing for me.
Love love Ray Bradbury!
“All Summer in a Day,” has haunted me for decades now.
Wearing the original Lolita Lempicka today. The bottle itself is straight out of a Tim Burton movie, I know that isn’t science fiction but it will have to do.
Had never thought of it this way, but yes, it does look like something out of a TB movie. Thank you for making me like my bottle even more.
Wonderful fragrance choice. Tim Burton is unmistakable. I recently watched the Miss Peregrine movie with my teen daughter. At the end she said, “That looked a lot like Beetlejuice.”
Not participating, but wearing both L’ Artisan’s Voleur de Roses and Shiseido’s Feminite du Bois perfume. 🙂
I was going to wear Insolence due to the ufo/flying saucer bottle, but then remembered I had Dune, so that’s my choice for today. Never read the book but I love the perfume (vintage).
Swooning over your vintage Dune.
Dune! *applauds*
I hoped Dune would make an appearance today. 🙂
I am channeling Inarra from Firefly in Coromandel. Sweet, seductive, and worldly, each taking their cues from oriental style influences. I imagine Coromandel would be just one weapon in Inarra’s arsenal, depending on her clients’ preferences.
Perfect pairing
Firefly!! Excellent pairing! And since she chooses her own clients, she would never pick a perfume that she herself didn’t like!
I was considering Firefly/Serenity for the project, trying to match something to River or to Wash’s “I am a leaf on the wind” quote. Maybe this weekend…
No longer have Vierges et Toreros, whch had a machine-oily vibe to it. In Cuirs de Barcelona, which today is slightly too much, like a overly thick blanket. Can’t tell whether it’s going to warm up or cool off this grey day.
SOTD is Iris Silver Mist, I’ve been reading Perdido Street Station and it really seems to capture the general mood of the book. Something that is equal parts beautiful, strange and confusing.
One character in particular (Lin) is an alien with a red human body and scarab head, but she describes humans as having a khepri body and human head. That’s exactly the twist of perspective I need with ISM.
That sounds like a great match.
Well, i got caught in a celluloid jam with this one ( not to mention the two days of the Science Fiction tune from Rocky Horror going through my brain). I am pairing Rocky Horror with MISIA which I am smelling from a Chanel blotter. Had such a blast with Waterdragon at the Chanel boutique, sniffing Chanel exclusifs off white porcelain (?) dippers that actually looked like applicator tampons ( so that was a bit surreal ). Fell in love with Coromandel , Misia and Bel Respiro…all transported me to another planet . Which reminds me of one of my favourite songs of the 80s: Another Girl, Another Planet by the Only Ones ( think they were Australian?) . Coromandel …. Wonderful. While in Auckland I bought Interlude and JM Pomegranate Noir ( liked Dark Amber and Ginger Lily, Carner Barcelona Cuirs ). If I’d gone to Chanel first I would have bought Coromandel and maybe Misia. Happy days everyone!
what did you think of the new EDP formulations?
I am guessing your really liked them…
I thought the new EDP formulations were masterful
The makeup accord of Misia is a perfect match for Rocky Horror. Well done!
And now that song is in my head too.
And the voices, too.
Glad you got to try the new Chanels. Misia and Coromandel are my favorites, too, but I haven’t smelled the edp yet.
OMG, I was humming that on the walk to work this morning!
There is a statue of Riff Raff in the city of Hamilton, NZ
Wow that sounds great! Happy for your trip and – ok- a little jealous here too Kanuka!
Wow that sounds great! Happy for your trip and – ok- a little jealous here too Kanuka!
Sounded like you and waterdragon had a lot of fun!
Forgot about the challenge today, and had a craving for Sacre bleu intense this morning, this only feels right on a really cold day.
“Good hunting!”
SOTD = Habit Rouge = Battlestar Galactica
Not only is it the perfect scent for Kara Thrace, but ‘Hunting Red’ is a match for BSG as a whole. The hunt: the pre-flight mantra of the Viper pilots, the hunt for Earth, and Humanity’s remnants as the prey hunted across the galaxy by the Cylons. Red: the motif of splashing blood drops, Cylon eyes (and, erm, spines), Basestar interiors, the dreaded result on Baltar’s ‘Cylon Detector’, and a certain iconic red dress.
*Mic drop*
Happy Friday, NST!
Cannot argue with your logic, and your assertion that it is a perfect scent for Starbuck has put Habit Rouge on my to-try list.
It’s totally wearable for women. Starbuck would be like, “It’s a ‘men’s’ fragrance? Frak that!”????
Love, love, love Battlestar Galactica! Habit Rouge would smell great on Commander Adama, too. 😉
Yes! I picture the Old Man in Old Spice, too. ????
Not being a SF fan, I had to really think back in time. Reminiscing about Mary Tyler Moore (70s) and how she broached controversial women’s issues while treading lightly, I thought of Maureen Robinson, the mother on Lost in Space (late 60s). Talk about being all things to all people, this woman was a scientist in space while protecting her children from anything the universe could throw at them.
Hmmm….capable, formidable, while comforting. Gotta be Vetiver Extrordinaire.
Dabbed on, obviously, as spritzes in anti-gravity are problematic.
I loved Lost in Space and the mom character as a child in the late 60s. It was one of my favorite shows. Thanks for the memories! ????
Excellent choice! Immediately thought ‘danger Will Robinson!’
Another day that is rapidly slipping away from me…I was on standby to have a new kitchen countertop installed if somebody canceled and I got the call this morning. I have to remove the old sink and countertop so I’ve been doing that. I’m hopeless with perfume/theme tie-ins, so I picked Tubereuse Criminelle. With the weird menthol opening it smells pretty alien to me.
It does smell alien! I’m not great with movie/book-perfume themes either, but someone should be able to come up with a work or character TC would be perfect for.
I went with how I pictured Arthur Dent smelling after waking up and brushing his teeth, but before he rolled in the mud to stop the Vogon fleet – Bal a Versailles EDT – faintly “whiffy” ( he never did get that shower) but not too overtly BO-centric, as he was a proper Englishman.
Don’t Panic.
This comment made my day. *heart*
Lovely choice! Wish I’d thought of the perfume equivalent of a slice of lemon wrapped round a large gold brick.
For me, that is Chanel Cristelle
That’s a great pairing!
Wearing Ramon Monegal Impossible Iris. I have a strong association for this perfume: it reminds me of Diva Plavalaguna from The Fifth Element. Several years ago I described this association on my blog (so I’ll quote, not to try re-phrase it now): “Impossible Iris starts strange and a little aloof (especially if worn in the colder weather). It smells… the word “artificial” has a negative connotation, which isn’t my intent, but I don’t know how to describe this perfume better. It smells not natural – similar to how Mugler‘s Angel smells not natural (though I’m not trying to compare scents themselves). I do not recognize the scent of any of the listed elements but the composition smells good. As time goes by, Impossible Iris warms up, loses its other-worldliness and becomes more familiar and approachable. It sings on skin, and it is beautiful.”
I like the Fifth Element Undina- great pairing. ????
Thanks 🙂
Oh, The Fifth Element — LOVE that movie! Diva Plavalaguna would definitely have worn perfume, no question in my mind.
It’s one of my all-time favorites.
Love it! …What would Ruby Rhod wear?
Tart’s Knicker Drawer?
Ha, nice!
Something supergreen, I guess 🙂
I have not seen The Fifth Element but I know you know I know you smell wonderful 🙂
I can’t believe it! Do you own a DVD or Blu-ray player?
Love the Fifth Element, and the Diva is one of my favorite scenes. I was thinking of her when I saw the challenge on Monday but didn’t get very far. Haven’t sniffed this Monegal perfume, but iris seems like a great match for her impossible high notes.
If you don’t have access to try this brand in a store (Newman Marcus might have it), I can make you a sample. If you want, send me you shipping address.
Late late late. New Sibet to go with the Southern Reach trilogy. All that sea and green and the multiform omnivorous creatures seem reflected in this funky vegetal furry iris.
Not as late as yours truly. I have a partial bottle of New Sibet and I have yet to sniff it 🙂
This is great fun! I chose my all time favorite -Enchantress From The Stars by Sylvia Engdahl.
Elana, the main character, is a member of an interstellar civilization on a mission to help a medieveal culture on another planet. Of course they’re not to interfere in the culture they encounter. She becomes the key to a dangerous plan to turn back an invasion. Elana is in a very complex situation-How can she help the Andrecians, who still believe in magic, without revealing her own tools, weapons and machines- that will be seen as ‘powers’? At the same time, Georyn, the son of an Andrecian woodcutter, knows only that there is a dragon in the enchanted forest ( one of the interstellar machines) ,and he must defeat it. He sees Elana as the Enchantress from the Stars who has come to test him, to prove he is worthy.
I chose DSH Cimabue – at first an attractive but simple scent that turns out to be complex.
Ooh – adding this to my reading list!
I discovered it as a child- but I still enjoy some of the themes it brings up. Hope you enjoy it Regina!
Not a huge sci-if fan. But I have watched the Alien series many, many, many, many times with DH who is a huge fan. So to honor Ripley who can kick some serious buttocks, I’m wearing Leather Man. Its sharp metallic green leather note says I’m coming for you, you alien $#*&*!
Oh, that’s a great Ripley scent! You smell wonderful.
Oh, that’s a great Ripley scent! You smell wonderful.
I had two ideas for today. The first was No. 19 for Agent Scully in the X-Files. The 2nd was Lou Lou, for all of the beautiful alien women in the original Star Trek series. I didn’t wear either of these. It was a cold, windy, snowy, and just plain nasty day. I wore TF Noir Extreme, and it was perfect.
Arrg. This weather- I get wanting to wear a comfort scent! I think No 19 works really well for Scully Lillyjo.
Thanks. I was finally able to try No.19, thanks to a wonderful NST friend. It really is a spine stiffener, and beautiful at the same time. Like Scully!
Love imagining Scully in No. 19. Perfect.
X-Files! Squeee! N°19 is a great choice for Scully.
I also think it’s a good choice (one more X-Files fan here).
This was NOTt easy for me, but very very FUN!!
Ok my Sci-F scent of the Day is based on the book Smoke by Dan Vyleta.
The story centers around a futuristic version of London where people exude smoke when they have negative thoughts or emotions. One must learn to hide their emotions or control their mind in order to control the smoke. The upper classes master this more easily…. that’s the plot so far but their nefarious activites at work stacking the deck in favor of some vs others.
The setting is a boys academy with some Harry Potter similarities.
My obvious scent is Oud Incense PdN!
Have a good weekend my friends.
This sounds like an interesting book!
Wow, lotta comments on this today!
I had three solid choices for today, all samples: Gucci Rush, SL Tubereuse Criminelle, and TM Womanity Les Parfums de Cuir. I went with the Womanity flanker, and I’ve been smelling like Molly Millions ( a William Gibson character) for a decent chunk of the day.
I love Molly Millions! Great choice of character and scent.
Ah, Brazil! Great movie, but so disturbing I don’t think I’ll ever watch it again.
I can’t think of any off the top of my head, but some kind of black tea and bergamot fragrance for Captain Picard could work. It would be a little stern and medicinal with whiffs of Earl Grey about it, in my mind. An Earl Grey fougere, maybe?
I can imagine Janeway splashing on some replicated Florida or Queen of Hungary water while getting dressed for one of her gothic holo-novel jaunts.
I forgot about today’s theme, so I’m wearing Diptyque’s L’eau de L’eau from a sample I received in the freebiemeet. It’s completely not what I was imagining at all in the best possible way. It reminds me of a scent my irrepressible grandmother used to wear, and after some time spent googling around I’m pretty certain her scent was Red by Giorgio of Beverly Hills. I remember Red being more “feminine,” but there’s still a strong similarity. I’m not sure if this is how other people read L’eau de L’eau, though! But for me it reads as spicy, citrusy, slightly powdery, and all around very sexy.
Thank you Paula for the samples! I’ve been putting off trying Diptyque for too long and now see the error of my ways.
Great reasoning on Captains Picard and Janeway.
Perhaps Picard would wear one of the Astier de Villatte colognes. Earl Gray tea was a sophisticated choice when the original Star Trek was made. He won’t be wearng what everyone else is wearing. Some of the Astier de Villatte colognes are medicinal, too.
Oh, now I have to watch all of Voyager again to find that scene!
It shows up a couple times on Voyager! I looked it up and the first episode she runs the holo-novel is season one, episode thirteen titles “Cathexis”
Lovely, thanks so much!!
Passage d’Enfer. It definitely belongs to an alternate universe, though I’m not sure which one. Something by Lord Dunsany?
Late to the party. This week was soooo crazy with so much unexpected work that I did not get what I needed to accomplish done. Aaaaargh. TGIF for sure.
SOTD = Jo Loves Pomelo
I was originally going to wear ISM for its aura of coldness which I associate with outer-space-themed science fiction; however, since it looks like a number us expressed intentions to wear this today, I decided to balance the universe.
Pomelo itself is grapefruit citrusy vetiver and does not have an ounce of science fiction vibe to it. I chose this among others because it was a momento of my recent New Year’s trip to London where I took a picture with the only remaining police box in London (heh, it’s actually newish and placed near the Earl’s Court tube station in the late 90s). Dr. Who fans know it as Tardis. The nerd that I am, I have a Tardis keychain that flashes and emits the grinding noise.
Earlier this week, I complimented someone on the floor on her perfume and asked what she wore. She thought for a few seconds and said she could not remember the name because she has many bottles but she was quite sure it was YSL. I only have 2 YSL FBs — Opium and M7 and it definitely was not these! Anyway, I will bave to follow-up on her comment about having many perfumes 🙂
There you go: your own TARDIS scent! With all its rooms, there’s bound to be something in there that smells grapefruity.
Truedat!
M7……so jello????
LOL!
You smelled great!
Are you sure she didn’t just try to protect her favorite perfume from you? 🙂
SOTD is Tom Ford Vert d’Encens, for Toby in Margaret Atwood’s The Year of the Flood. The earthy greenness for her time in God’s Gardeners, with the incense representing the smoke she uses with the bees. The Maddadam Trilogy is looking even less like science fiction and more like a glimpse of the likely future lately. (Did anyone else see that scientists have created a human/pig chimera? Link here: http://news.nationalgeographic.com/2017/01/human-pig-hybrid-embryo-chimera-organs-health-science/) So, I am enjoying the perfume, but terrified for the future.
I’ve been meaning to read some Margaret Atwood–I’ll have to get on with it. …I saw headlines for that news story yesterday, but I was too genuinely freaked out and dismayed to actually read it!
I’m wearing Femme by Rochas ( was doing the Basenotes sync today ,theme : animalic) and was hurrying as I had to be at work by 9am. This does work for this sync as well . In one of the Star Trek books Captain Kirk’s nephew gets kidnapped by Klingons. Typical Kirk that he is ,he falls for the Klingon girl jailor and she for the young Kirk. He comments in the story that she smells like warm peaches. Femme has a peachy warm skin vibe that could be from wearing armor all day – like a Klingon would.
Fantastic!
SJP Lovely. Nothing sci-fi, but I expect if we were in some alternate universe it might smell strange to the natives.
Kenzo Kashaya because I just got the sample. I think it fulfills my wish for something that suggests Lancome Tresor without being so unbearably strong.
