Happy Veteran's Day, and happy Iris Friday! Our community project for today: wear an iris fragrance, if you have one.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I went with Prada Infusion d'Iris Absolue. I'm wearing it over the remnants of last night's Aftelier Ancient Resins, which I put on as soon as I heard that Leonard Cohen had left us.
Reminder: 11/18 will be No Brainer Friday — wear one of your seasonal "no brainer / go to" fragrances. Thanks to SheriG for the suggestion!
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Wearing Chanel 28 La Pausa EdT. So fleeting.. I plan to switch to Prada Infusion d’Iris as it wears off.
R.I.P. Leonard Cohen..
Love both of your choices
Twins!
Happy Veterans Day. Thank you to anyone with family or who has served our country.
Scent triplet with the 28 La Pausa, courtesy of Hajusuuri. Only 3 sprays for me, though.
31 Rue Cambon. Amazing perfume with dry wood and fizzy aldehydes. I do not think of iris immediately when I put it on, but later I can detect something like makeup, and that must be it.
Scent twins. We smell amazing!
🙂
You sure do!
You smell fabulous.
TGIF and hello twin!
Drinking: Roasted Oolong. Oolong tea roasted over good quality charcoal to give a elegant smoky nuance. Love it.
Hey twin! Except I’m sure we will be a huge constituency today, so maybe twin is not the right word 🙂
Oh, Roasted Oolong! Sounds delicious 🙂
Twins Robin! Prada Infusion d’Iris Absolue from the swapmeet (thanks Elisa P.). Softer and more powdery than the original. More elegant and warmer. I love it!
Seems we already have quadruplets, including me and happy888cat 🙂 What a great start for a great scent!
It is great stuff, isn’t it?
Me too. I almost didn’t try the Absolue since the original was so dull, but I am glad I was talked into it.
Heh.
+1
You smell wonderful! Glad you’re enjoying it ????
Me too for Infusion d’Iris Absolue! 😉
Carner D600 for me today
My favorite Carner
You smell great. I almost went for this one today.
RIP Mr Cohen
No 19 Poudre
Cup of Sencha
Did anyone have no control and buy the discounted bottle of Dozangha yesterday because of OaklandF’s post ?
I am guilty
I’m admiring my shiny new enabling pin.
You can also put a peace sign pin next to your enabler pin!!
– such a interesting peaceful scent
I would have if I didn’t already have 2 backups. I love Dzongkha so much.
BobH got an enabler pin for Dzonka a few weeks ago, I blind bought it, and luckily I adore it!
I didn’t have control either and got the full bottle. Like you, I feel guilty since I had been sitting on my hands for a while…
I almost went for it as a blind buy. Talked myself down from the edge only because Mr Minion accidentally paid the rent twice on their new website and November is when all our insurance payments are due so spending money isn’t as fun as it should be at the moment.
I couldn’t resist..at that price!
It’s an epidemic! Also in Prada Infusion d’Iris, courtesy of a generous NST-er.
Cuir de Russie for today. It’s been a sad week already and with Leonard Cohen’s passing, I just.. well.. I just need some more beauty in my life right now. So it’s Chanel and Handel’s Tamerlano in the headphones.
Yes! Music. That is what I need. Because I write, or struggle to write (boring reports or plans, nothing lyrical, but I won’t swear they are never fictional) all day, I tend to need quiet. But I think some Satie, a candle, and coffee, might get me through.
Satie! Queueing it up next, good suggestion.
A Handel opera does sound ideal after a terrible week (which I started by losing my phone, and it went downhill from there), and I have a sample of Cuir de Russie, too. The people who post here are full of good ideas!
I totally forgot about the iris challenge today. If I’d remembered, I’d probably have worn Cuir de Lancome. As it is, I’m wearing AG Ce Soir ou Jamais edp. Since there are about 100 ingredients in this one, I’m sure there is some iris lurking in there somewhere. It seemed like a good day for a rich rose.
I love this one. My bottle is in storage till spring but you make me want to pull it out early.
Great rose, and great scent!
You smell lovely. Thanks for reminding me of it! I have an original sample I should finish before it completely evaporates…
I was also planning on the Prada but since I’m working at home today and it seemed too tame I went with MFK Absolue Pour le Soir. I would love to buy a full bottle of this someday, but I wonder if I’ve left it too late and its been discontinued? I sure hope not, its becoming one of my favorites.
No, you just have to order it directly off his site.
Website says “temporarily unavailable” – I sure hope its really temporary
Happy Iris Friday to everyone at NST, happy Veterans Day to US friends and happy Independence Day for everyone in Poland.
I’m wearing Iris Fauve by Atelier des Ors.
You all smell good!
Happy Iris Friday to you!
What is Iris Fauve like? I am interested in a spicy woody iris.
And to you too!
Iris Fauve is a powdery-musky iris (with some silky buttery texture too) and with a hint of woodiness. It’s very wearable
Hi Lucas and NST’ers. I’m wearing the same as you – Iris Fauve. I think we smell pretty good today. I live in France and my son sang God Save The Queen (with his class) at the remembrance day celebration in our town. Hope everyone had a good day. Sad news about Leonard Cohen.
Hi There Megan! Oh yes, we smell great. I’ve quickly grown fond of it.
Sounds like you had a good day with a family today
Oh I just for a sample of that from the lovely people at Osswald! Can’t wait to try.
Happy Independence Day!
Tried some Dior Homme. Then my dog escaped and I didn’t get to enjoy it- tramping through the brush in my neighbors’ backyards. Will go for the infusion d’iris sample next now that he’s back. Had to cancel my classes so I think I will spray liberally!
I have had that heart-pounding anxiety when a pet escapes a few times. I’m so glad you found him.
I am wearing Xerjoff Irisss. Boy oh boy do I wish this were either not for me or much less expensive.
I am drinking a cup of locally roasted Nicaraugan coffee.
Hah, I need to get that decant out! Thanks for reminding me, monkeytoe.
Well, I am unexpectedly (and rather expensively) flying home for the weekend instead of spending it in Paris. That said, I had intended popping into Jovoy so it might have been fairly expensive to stay. But the other Mr Koenigsberg is going through a bad patch with his MS so I wouldn’t have enjoyed being away from home while he was housebound.
SOTD is Baruti “Berlin im Winter”, which is a bit all over the shop when it goes on but gorgeous after a few minutes. And it has iris, so I’m sort – of participating. :^)
Wishing you a healing weekend with clinking glasses and lots of bawdy jokes.
Thank you. As chronic illness it will just run its course through this phase and then move on to some other greater or lesser woe. But psychologically it will be good for him to have me home, making a mess that he can complain about. :^)
What a fantastic perspective! Your Mr. K is lucky to have you. 🙂
I am still training my Mr. Spicebomb to treat my autoimmune issues as “just a part of life” and not something to fear and deny.
I agree wholeheartedly with marjorierose, how kind, thoughtful and stoic u are!
Hope u have a lovely weekend at home, and he’s feeling better soon.
Sounds tough. Sending healing vibes! And that Baruti has been on my “to sample” list for a while.
It’s worth a shot!
Sending good & healing thoughts to the Koenigsberg household.
Thank you!
Sending positive thoughts and energies across the miles to your household for wellness.
Thanks Laila!
Healing thoughts for your partner, K.
Thank you – looking forward to finishing the year in Malaga as the Winter sun and warmth is very good for MS, in his case anyway.
I sampled this and enjoyed it for the 10 minutes it lasted.
Here’s wishing a peaceful weekend for both Mr. Koenigsburgs.
Hmm, unusually it lasts a bit longer on me, although not more than half a day. I think I still prefer Indigo though.
Sending healing energy to your home. I hope you have a peaceful and comfortable weekend.
Thank you Sistine. :^)
My best wishes and thoughts to you both! I saw a record shop in Barcelona today and thought of him.
Thanks Koyel – and sshh! What he doesn’t know won’t hurt him. :^D
Hope that bad patch ends soon and the weekend is enjoyable. I’m sure there will be future times to spend those Jovoy coins….
Thanks – fingers crossed, these episodes don’t usually last more than a week.
Best wishes for the other Mr. K.
Thanks!
Well wishes to the both of you.
Cheers lillyjo!
I hope he feels better!
He’d better after all the trouble I went to! ;^)
I’m in Acqua di Parma Iris Nobile EDT, which is working surprising well on this bright-but-foggy, chilly morning.
Great choice.
Mugler Oriental Express.
So sad to see Mr.Cohen gone.
Very sad — could not believe it when I heard it last night.
Happy Friday. SOTD is Volnay Perlerette. I did not think I was a huge iris fan, but found a few in my stash. This one is powder with a small bite.
Glad you found one!
Commando until my headache lifts. I’m making flirty eyes at the Guerlain box where I store my L’Heure Bleue… Maybe later my little beauty!
Hope your headache clears and you can enjoy the lovely L’Heure Bleue later!
Feel better soon!
I hope that headache has left so you can revel in the beauty of your LHB!
Hope you get better soon.
I hipe you got to wear your little beauty. Is yours the modern formulation?
Yes it is. I purchased it at Bergdorfs about two years ago. But ’tis a beaut! My favorite Guerlain.
My favorite Guerlain, too. I hope you’re in a lovely purple-blue cloud right now.
I love iris! I did woody iris, Bois d’Iris, I did floral iris, Athalia, I did powdery iris, Iris Poudre, I did ghost of Iris past, Scent of Hope. Today I am iris’s iris, Iris Silver Mist! What a great project.
Also, I just noticed that The Perfumed Court has the Prada Iris Absolute included in the list of weekly specials, in case someone needs a justification or ecuse to get a little decant…
Merthinks one should just go straight to a FB
And thank you for your opinion, lovely hajusuuri! That’s another star in you enabler pin! LOL!
Happy Veterans Day to all in the U.S. and thank you to all the service members part and present who made/make it possible for us to enjoy our freedom.
Stay safe johanob and merlin — heard about the flooding in Joburg.
Stay safe those of you / us who may encounter the protests that are going on. I escaped the worst of the crowds in NYC on Wednesday on my way home.
SOTD = Serge Lutens Iris Silver Mist
One tiny spritz so as not to aggravate scent phobes at home. I have many iris forward perfumes that I think I will also feature that next week and possibly through most of the rest of November!
On the shopping front…yes, finally, the Sephora VIB sale started, online (20VIB and it’s possible it may only work for VIB members) and in store. Saks is having 10% off on Beauty, online only with code VETERAN and if you go in through eBates, you get 8% cash back! I sometimes forget to go through eBates but that cash back adds up — since 2012, I’ve gotten back over $225!
Thanks Hajusuuri!I need to check in with Merlin after the storm this afternoon. My power at home was cut off up until an hour ago.I’m luckily staying quite far from where the major floods and damage are.And Hey ScentTwin!x
Sorry to hear about the damaging weather. I know you’ve been having quite a drought in the Kruger Park – did they get any rain over there?
Thanks Aparatchick!Yes,there has been some rains in the Kruger, but we’re in extremes this season, either heatwave or thunder-floods!(the best way I can describe a normal “highveld thunderstorm gone beserk!”)x
Thanks for the wishes Hajsuuri and Apparatchik. I HOPE this signals the end of the drought but not yet sure. It’s storming outside right now.
Johano and I can take advantage with all our cosy winter scents that we have had to forego in the heat.
Yes,that’s very true!PoaL today.xx
I am wearing Fragonard Iris eau de toilette. Fragonard named Iris their flower of 2016. A beautiful soft iris. Wears well. This week has been filled with shock and sadness. The soft iris reminds us of the beauty in the world. Leonardo Cohen brought us beauty with his music.
That bottle was gorgeous too — glad to hear the fragrance is good.
Fragonard perfumes and I get along well. I will seek this out..
SOTD Iris Silver Mist!I wore it the day of my Mom’s funeral as well.It was always a special scent to me,now even more than ever before!Hope the South African perfumistas are all safe and OK after the tumultuous weather these past three days!I’ve had water and electricity cuts for two days intermittently, but luckily no damage to the property.Stay safe!Happy weekend all!xo
Glad that you’re safe and that you’ve made a special association with your scent. I have a similar association with SHL Rose de Petra which I bought and wore during the weeks before my mother passed. It’s comforting to wear it.
That is an awesome scent. And I’m glad we can both connect sad-happy memories to our scents, respectively! My Mom’s name was Petra,by the way!!I just got goosebumps.X
Oh, wow!
I got goosebumps, too!
Stay safe and dry. You smell amazing, and I hope thoughts of your mother have given you comfort whenever you catch a whiff of yourself.
Stay safe and wonderfuly perfumed!
I know what it’s like to live with flash floods, so I hope those rains subside for you! Stay safe.
Thank you to everyone for your kind wishes and words! After one hell of a storm last night,we’re still here! The property is wonderfully wet and all dampy, but no damage.Even the electricity and water supply survived!Have a wonderful weekend!!
L’Attessa today, for the sheer beauty of it. Leonard Cohen’s passing broke what was left of my heart after this week’s events, but he made the world a more beautiful place and I’m so grateful for that. Sending remembrance and tenderness out to the memory of all the young lives lost in the horrible paroxysm of industrial slaughter that was the First World War. What a mess we humans make of things.
I have been listening to Tower of Song off & on all day…
Amen to those Armistice Day sentiments.
RIP, Leonard Cohen–what an original. Would love to try Ancient Resins one of these days. AdP Iris Nobile edt today, not really a cooler-weather frag, but am off to yoga shortly and it’s been conservatively applied!
Hi twin!
And PSA that Sirius The Loft channel is going to have a lot of L Cohen on rotation this afternoon.
Ancient Resins is well worth what she asks for it. I sleep in it…
Gorgeous day here in the swamps! Finally got my rear back to spin class this morning and now plan on hitting the shower, then hitting the MFK CPLS. I’m skipping iris today because the only one I have is Hiris, which seems to be best in summer. I really don’t want to encourage the return of that dreaded season, so will go with CPLS which is wonderfully warn and snuggly.
Made a wonderful omelette with broccoli, ham, and cheese just now, and feel fortified and ready to Get. Stuff. Done. My purge continues as I go through the kitchen area. Astounding all the crap I have collected. Tons of stuff I have amassed and maybe only used a few times. It feels great to lighten the load.
Leonard Cohen, RIP.
I just finished my purge of the whole house as well.Amazing what one finds!!Kitchen has a cupboard with antique scales and “jaffle-pan” thingies, which I’m still trying to decipher how and why one uses it!Lol!x
Ha! I understand completely! Sometimes I wonder if there’s a little gnome in my house, collecting contraband, because I swear, I don’t even remember some of this stuff! Good for you for getting through an entire house. That’s a real accomplishment ????
“Do not be a magician-be magic.”
-Leonard Cohen from Beautiful Losers RIP
So glad I got to see him live twice within the last decade.
I almost went with Prada IdI Absolue and can still smell it after sticking my nose on the nozzle. But couldn’t wait to finally try Cuir de Lancome which arrived yesterday from a generous NSTer (thanks kpaint ????). So far, I really like it.
Glad you found a new one to love!
Good Morning- Veteran’s Day.
1) A quote from Cohen when accepting the Prince of Asturias Prize:
“…. But he (Lorca) gave me permission to find a voice, to locate a voice; that is, to locate a self, a self that that is not fixed, a self that struggles for its own existence.
And as I grew older I understood that instructions came with this voice. What were these instructions? The instructions were never to lament casually. And if one is to express the great inevitable defeat that awaits us all, it must be done within the strict confines of dignity and beauty.”
2) Infusion d’Iris. Perfect for this foggy morning.
3) Cafe au lait with almond milk, and a big sugar donut.
4) I wish to say thank you to our veterans. My immigrant family has had 4 soldiers serve with distinction in the US Marine Corps.
Beautiful quote from a beautiful man. And that big sugar donut…
That donut was very good!
And Cohen- -man, we need him now more than ever.
Yes, he did pick quite the day to hang his hat.
Those are great words from Cohen. You’ve helped me out a few times this awful week Ede.
Many hugs and love to you!
Location and Cohen. Two of my favorite poets….
Stupid spell check! Lorca, Lorca…
Hee! And yes, actually two of my favorites as well.
Love that quote.Perfume and music does make my world a much much better place!
Oh yes. Never doubt the power of creativity and beauty.
Beautiful quote and I hope you thoroughly enjoy that donut????
After this week, it was much appreciated! YUM!
Beautiful quote Ede, and jealous of you’re breakfast too!
😀 It was great!
Wow, many thanks to your family for their contributions, both the soldiers and their families back home.
Thank you! 🙂
SOTD Naomi Goodsir’s Iris Cendre’. RIP Leonard Cohen.
Ah, you smell great.
I’m in Iris Nazarena today.
What a beauty.You smell exquisite!x
Yum!
Iris Prima today, because there isn’t much left in my mini and I could use all the help I can get to remember to be soft with people these days.
Good thinking!
Infusion d’Iris.
SOTD: L’Heure Bleue. I went with the letter of the project (i.e. L’HB has some iris in it) but not the spirit (it is *not* and iris scent). It is just too chilly here today for a true iris scent.
Now if only I had a bottle of Equistrius… 😉
An excellent choice!
I’m wearing Mon Parfum Chéri par Camille, which isn’t all about iris, but it’s one of the main players. One of my favourite Goutals and one of my favourites for this time of year. I love how uncompromising it is and how bold, great when in need of moral support or spine stiffening.
Sad to hear about Mr. Cohen, but apparently he had reconciled himself to his approaching end.
Tea this morning was Assam Halmari and the next pot will be prepared in a little while.
2016 has been such a terrible year for losing people who have made the public happy, hasn’t it?
Iris Poudre today, a no-brainer comfort scent.
Yes to your SOTD.
Scent twins today mals , Iris Poudre really is such a lovely comfort scent.
Triplets in the lovely Iris Poudre, thanks to a generous NST swapper!
Oooh, love your new avatar and you smell lovely!
Wearing one of my few iris scents, Yves Rocher Iris Noir.
The news of Leonard Cohen’s death last night was the capper of a week that was tough for the Aparatchicks in every possible way. But I’m trying to remember his insightful words:
The birds they sang
At the break of day
Start again
I heard them say
Don’t dwell on what
Has passed away
Or what is yet to be
…
Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack, a crack in everything
That’s how the light gets in
And the sun rose again today, yesterday, and the day before, and, hopefully, will do so again tomorrow. I am grateful, and life continues . . . Thank you for your lovely post.
Beautiful.Stay strong!xx
Wonderful and illuminating, such wise and poetic words.
I hope the light gets in to your lives and the bells begin to ring soon.
I’m not much of an iris fan (ok, that’s an understatement) but in theory I’m wearing Viktoria Minya Hedonist Iris, which does have a lovely clear-as-a-bell iris note.
I say ‘in theory’ because it’s actually still packed away in the basement with my other winter perfumes. It’s been so warm here for the past few days I’ve been wearing shorts. Crazy.
In reality, I’ll probably be taking another dive into the Bottomless Sample Bowl…
“In theory” does get you partial credit, and hope you found something lovely in the sample bowl.
Ooh. Let’s see. Maybe some of my old L’Artisan Orchidee Blanche (actually an iris scent!).
Adding: it’s been a rocky week. Grateful, even more than usual, for consolations of perfume and kindred spirits.
Amen to that!
This has been the best place for me to be,lately.
Yes me too. Reading and lurking. So grateful for this space.
Absolutely couldn’t agree more.
OJ Vanille d’Iris. Not much of an iris fan, but I’ve been wearing everything in larger quantities lately, and that’s really opened up this scent for me.
It may be cold enough here tomorrow for me to wear it!
I love the beautiful, stately iris that bloom in my garden, but the appeal of the iris note in fragrances has eluded me. Having sampled various ‘iris’ scents, most leave me rather indifferent at best and sometimes quite literally, cold. Such is my experience with my SOTD, FM Iris Poudre. I’m turned off by the cold opening (not a refreshing cool, but an almost metallic one) but then the fragrance settles down softly and becomes more enjoyable. Although I like its aldehydes and powdery note, and despite its many accolades, Iris Poudre, like Chanel No. 5, is tolerable but just ‘meh’ to me; I wouldn’t mind smelling it on someone else but have no desire to wear or own it. More left for those of you who love it to enjoy!
That drydown,is part of my “Holy Grail”!
I adore that Iris Poudre drydown as well.
Me too.
Me three.
Most iris-heavy scents are too cold for me, too. I need some warmth, or sweetness, and even then, they tend to be the chilliest perfumes I can actually enjoy.
Remembrance Day reminds me to give thanks for all those who serve for our freedom and safety, and to think of them and their families.
Vanille D’Iris again today. Becoming a staple as it’s really very special.
I am waiting until it gets properly cold, really cold, before wearing this again. I did not like it at all in warmth.
Prada Infusion d’Iris. This looks like a popular one today. So pretty and uplifting.
I d’I is SO pretty! You smell great.
Thanks to our vererans for their service, including my dad and my husband. So sorry to hear Leonard Cohen has left the building, he was a treasure.
Wearing JM Orris and Sandalwood.
Thank you to veterans! today and everyday! I am sending hugs to my veteran grandfathers (with the power of my mind) and will hug my veteran father tomorrow on his birthday.
Using up the last bits of my Ancient Resins for Leonard Cohen, but I’m sure I’ll dig up some iris before too long…the others this week served to be a bit of a balm (but everything keeps getting worse, right?)
I had no immediate answer to your question, but see Sistine’s post below — 16 year olds shushing each other to hear the lyrics to the Leonard Cohen songs. There are little bits of joy and beauty everywhere.
Yes, it’s true. Must keep my eyes open to those moments
I was so sorry to hear about Leonard Cohen’s death. I have been a fan since his early recordings. So much beautiful music. I’m not in an iris this morning, I’m trying to get going early and so I grabbed the first thing my hand hit–Origins Ginger Essence. About as far from iris as you can get, I think!
I don’t have an iris perfume…yet!
Anticipation is a gift. 🙂
Huh,what??Outrage!!purgatory!!Lol.There are so many awesome Irises, you’re sure to find one asap.
I figure that Artist’s Studio is really an iris perfume but viewed from the standpoint of the painter rather than the vase of flowers. But I’m not wearing that either…as I am wearing Epice Marine , which I adore ( thanks WD).
That is a perfect description of Artist’s Studio! My first thought was it smells like a painting of a painting being painted…x
I am in shock to be the first person who chose Hiris today. I tried Xerjoff’s irisss yesterday and was happy that while it was nice, it wasn’t required. (My wallet was also happy! I had been sitting on that sample for 6 months, afraid to try it in case it was perfect.)
I have been playing Leonard Cohen all morning, and 10th grade students are really digging his work. They all know ‘Hallelujah” from Shrek, and are excited to hear the original. You know a man was a true poet when 16 year-olds are shushing each other because “I can’t hear the words!”
Fragrant peace to everyone.
I wore Hiris yesterday and loved every minute. You smell fabulous. 🙂
I was so happy when Shrek made Hallelujah popular with the kids. I teach music classes for young people. No school today, so next week I’ll dust off the Leonard Cohen lessons.
“You know a man was a true poet when 16 year-olds are shushing each other because ‘I can’t hear the words!'”
I love it!!
I am shocked too!
So glad you are playing the music for 16 year olds, thank you.
Iris Poudre for me today, one of my top 10 favourites, paired with a Paisley Etro purple and dak blue scarf.
I’m also sad to see Leonard Cohen go, such a legend.
Wearing Iris Poudre again tomorrow to a charity ball, I’m wearing a navy and burgundy strapless vintage 40s/50’s dress and burgundy shoes, and the perfume seems to match.
I love your combo for the charity ball. Although it doesn’t work for me, I think Iris Poudre is an elegant and sophisticated, rather than a comfort, scent. You will look and smell fab!
Thanks Laila!, it’s my first time going to this kind of event, so I’m really looking forward to it!
Yes it’s definitely elegant and sophisticated as well.
SotD = Prada Infusion d’Iris Absolue. We are the iris collective. Resistance is futile!
This evening I’ll wear Après l’Ondée for an iris with a very different sentiment.
LOL — we really are!
Scent twins with Cazaubon in JM Orris & Sandalwood. Later I will switch to the more plush and comforting L’Artisan Mon Numéro 8. And perhaps a drop of L’Heure Bleue for bedtime.
Playing with a few iris options on my hands until I decide. Heeley Iris de Nuit, Iris Cendre, and L’attesa.
I love the Heeley!
The Heeley is gorgeous!
I love them all but L’Attesa is my favorite!
It is if Iris Cendre?
I think autocorrect changed something here. 🙂 What were you meaning to ask?
It did indeed! I was just waffling – or is it Iris Cendre? My favorite, that is. Which is yours?
My iris of choice today is Byredo 1996. Maybe because I was subconsciously wishing for a time machine… lol..
RIP Leonard Cohen.
I thought we’d see more 1996 today!
In addition to everything else, dry skin season has arrived, so it’s Leonard Cohen’s Ancient Resins by Aftelier today.
I use Cetaphil Lotion year-round except when I have Clinique Body Butter on hand.
I like the heavier Cetaphil lotion for winter, ligher Lubriderm for summer. I’ll have to check out the Clinique Body Butter, too.
Ancient Resins is an occasional supplement; I’m actually surprised today by how much better my hands feel after putting it on.
Good morning. I can’t be sad about Leonard Cohen’s death because he was himself so entirely accepting of the inevitable end., but yes, may he rest in peace or wander free, as the case may be. I have no idea what happens next, but whatever it is, I hope he likes it.
So. My iris perfume today is my new Hermessence Iris Ukiyoe, which is really a cheat, because iris flowers don’t smell. This is a pretty perfume, though, good for a jeans-and-jumper day. I’m enjoying it very much. Later I might play with Misia or something a bit heavier.
I have given myself two things to accomplish this gloomy Saturday: I’m going to tidy (1) my perfumes and (2) my scarves. I’ve been putting both tasks off so long that I actually had to write them down on my “To Do” list to make sure I would attend to them. It’s quite pathetic that I have to resort to such ploys to get things done, but there it is: before I wrote them down, I drifted from day to day annoyed by the messiness., but too bone idle to do anything about it. Now that I’ve entered the mess as tasks, I won’t be happy until I have placed ticks beside them. Is this weird? Am I the only person on the planet helplessly in the grip of a “To Do” list?
Legend has it that the CEO of one lf the largest companies in the world keeps a paper To Do list with two columns: Things he owes others, Things other people owe him. You’re in good company.
IOU, UOME? Goodness, that’s an intense focus on keeping the books of life balanced! makes my task list look quite mere and relaxed in comparison!
He got to be CEO of several companies and learned from the school of hard knocks.
I like the sense of achievement as I tick things off the list – to such an extent that I pad my lists with things that I really want to do. I don’t really need to list my hobbies 🙂
I should try the padding trick. Or no…maybe that’s exactly what I shouldn’t do!
Hey, how are ya? I’m going to be in Wellington for a couple of conferences next year. If I book ahead, can we go a-sniffing together? And also, back to that shoe shop? I really regret the hot pink boots that I didn’t buy!
Could I come too? I have to do some work at the Alexander Turnbull some time….
It would be do cool if we could coordinate!
I am completely dependent on “To Do” lists. Last summer, I was getting ready for a trip and having semi-panic attacks because I’d chosen to rely on the list from a previous trip rather than writing out a new, more specific list for the upcoming trip. Of course, I can do some things without a list, but I’m blown about by whims rather than priorities, and end up avoiding key tasks.
And yes, I do not hesitate to add tasks to my lists after I’ve done them, just so that I can cross them off. 🙂
You know, my sister keeps a three-tier To Do list: a master list of all lists, then the lists organised by category–house, broken down by rooms, social things (Ali organises EVERYTHING, everywhere), miscellaneous, etc, etc., then each task on each list broken into sub-tasks. I swear I’m on one of her lists somewhere, probably headed “Little sister-recalcitrant”.
LOL – a waterdragon project 🙂
Yes, subcategories always! During one particularly busy period, the subcategories were WHERE the task needed to be done, so that if I went downtown, for example, I could take care of multiple downtown tasks in an afternoon, thus reducing the number of time-consuming trips downtown.
Wow! I’ve got quite some way to go!
Number one item on my to-do list today is “tidy frags.” Though it is first on my list, attending to the fragrant chaos will be the last thing I do this evening, a comforting way to end the day.
It could be the he time of year. I am tidying up my frags, too. I’ll be happy if I get to consolidate 1/3 of my collection this weekend, not including decants and samples.
Forgot to bring an iris with me to CA, so am in Alahine decant from a generous NSTer!
But…my scent yesterday was amusing. Went to Walmart wth my sister to buy up small necessities to throw in the suitcase to bring back to NYC. I was just about out of all those things like allergy medicine, body lotion, pain stuff….
I couldn’t resist….I bought an Old Spice Amber body spray.
It’s powerful for a while but I like it…. I’m thinking I want my husband to try it as a counter to his more citrusy men colognes, much as I love Colonia on him. I’ll just have to warn him one spritz only.
I was in no 19 edt this morning, so I participated in the challenge, sort of. It’s too cold out to wear iris today. Since no 19 is almost gone on my skin, I will be wearing Shalimar or SDV.
I’ll be spending my Saturday morning in a cloud of Hiris, one of my early perfume addict purchases.
Friday, woo!
I’m probably the only one in my choice for Iris Friday: Jivago 24K. It’s a powdery-leaning BWF that has the same feel as Amouage Gold. Reduce Gold’s animalic overdose and substitute its LOTV with tuberose, and you’ve got 24K.
Keep wafting your iris/oris and making the world smell great today, NSTers!
PG Iris Oriental no. 14 (thanks to generous Clarissa!). Very unusual and beautiful fragrance, but iris is not the star here, it is CARDAMOM! Loads of it!
same here, although I still have an older bottle (labeled iris taizo), nice and warm notes, ideal for a rainy autumn day
My favorite from Leonard Cohen is, ‘if it be your will’:
“From this broken hill, I sing – ‘
A powerful alchemy of beauty from pain. Rest In Peace, prophet, poet and maker of music…
Today in Calligraphy Rose.
That song sends shivers up my spine.
As the best always do –
That is a stunning song. Adding my voice to the RIP on Leonard Cohen. My husband has always loved him, but I came late to the game. Saw him at Oakland’s gorgeous Paramount Theater. An incredible evening. He was on stage almost four hours with one break. I was in awe of the beauty and pure musicianship of him and those with him. It was a privilege.
Guerlain Shalimar Parfum Initial for today and most of the past few weeks. Love it.
Nez à Nez Marron Chic
I’ve never even heard of it, is it nice?
I enjoy it very much. It has a slightly medicinal opening and then turns to a very dark, bitter cocoa and iris combo. Deliciously warm and elegant.
Thought you would do that one. I really need to tackle the boxes in my basement (sitting there since I moved in March) and find my bottle
Some would call me predictable, but I’d rather say trustworthy! 🙂
Have a great weekend, and I hope you’ll soon find the energy to tackle your perfume boxes at the basement. I finally organized my kitchen this week, after having moved two years ago, and it felt great afterwards.
Wearing Ombre Mercure by Terry De Gunzburg, one of my all time favorite iris scents. Gorgeous!
I need to try this again the next time I’m ar Barneys. What do you like about it?
It’s the polar opposite of Iris Silver Mist and Irisss, both of which I love. But this Iris is warmer and sweeter, spicier which makes it SING in the cold weather. If you decide to buy it do a google shopping search, I found mine at a discounter (Beautyhabit? Fragnet? Can’t remember.) And it was almost 50% less than in the stores.
Oh, and this is the regular, not the “extreme” version. Hope this helps!
Great idea! I found it in Fragrancex at ~ 30% off. I ,ay actually have a sample of this but Barneys is not too far but now I have to double back and walk down Madison to avoid the 5th Avenue circus which will get worse once the tree is up.
Should clarify and say AFTER stopping by Barneys, I’ll have to go back east and down instead of going west and down!
Congrats! It’s gorgeous!!
Sitting in South Station waiting for the bus to go out to Western Mass for two friends 70 the birthday party. My Iris scent pof the day is JM Red Roses. The news about Leonard Cohen made me extra sad after this very rough week. Thanks to all of you here and Robin for providing such a safe comforting place to go to on line.
Hey, thank you all for being here — it is a huge comfort to me too!
SOTD IS Equistrius again. It is a sweet and comforting iris scent that is not too cold or metalic for a windy cool Friday.
You smell great. (Thanks for sharing some with me!)
????
Nettuno today. Martian Iris.
Remembered to participate today, Iris Cendre, which suits the cold and wet weather we’re having.
I too put on Aftelier Ancient Resins the moment I heard of Leonard Cohen’s passing yesterday. I’ve just kept reapplying today, listening to a wonderful tribute on “Morning Becomes Eclectic” hosted by his friend and DJ Chris Douridas. So no iris for me today, although its cool and melancholy side might suit this sad day fine.
Me tio!! Last nite
Dzonghka!! Maybe later tonite Buccoliques from L’Artisan!!
Going with one of my cheapies….because it’s the only scent in my collection that came to mind….
SOTD: Vera Wang Periwinkle and Iris. Drugstore sugar bomb, but I most say it’s lasted most of the day before the fadeout!
Wearing the very pretty Chanel 1932 edt, after deciding I just wasn’t in the mood for Ferre or 31 Rue Cambon. (With thanks to Wendysue.) I got a sample of the edp this week, which is supposed to be quite different. Perhaps I’ll wear it tomorrow and report back.
At first I felt 1932 was insipid but it grew on me and now I think 1932 lovely, but then it is gone after only a few minutes. I’d love it if they came out with 1932 Intense…not exactly the style of the house, but still..
I did wear 1932 edp today. It has more oomph and longevity than the edt, but it isn’t as pretty, in my opinion. It’s less floral, and more like 31 Rue Cambon Lite.
