Hey, it's Tea Time Friday! Our community project for today: wear a fragrance with a tea note.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm wearing Bvlgari Eau Parfumée au Thé Bleu. Tea at the moment is a Dong Ding oolong from American Tea Room.
Reminder: 9/16 will be Harvest Moon Friday: wear a fragrance with a nut or grain / cereal note. If you don't have one, you could think of another note associated with the fall harvest season — apple? hay?
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2016, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Country Estate Delft Blue Teapot is $175 at Juliska.
TGIF!
SOTD: Osmanthe Yunnan.
Currently drinking this beautiful Oolong tea osmanthus blend I got from my trip to Taiwan.
Perfect! I have not had a good osmanthus oolong in a long time, might need to order some 🙂
Ooo — could you recommend a good one?
I used to buy big tins of it from Ten Ren, and they were quite good…but haven’t bought one in a few years so can’t vouch for them now!
Oh, and should add that they were expensive! Just went to look, they are now charging $90 for the big tin of Osmanthus Supreme, ouch. Quite sure it used to be a bit more reasonable. Plus, out of stock. They have a cheaper version for $24, but I never tried that one, plus tea bags, ditto.
Twin! I am sad to report though that my manufacturer sample of this gem is in mortal peril. I put it in my pocket to take to work this morning and this caused the stopper to crack. It’s in danger of breaking off in the bottle, plus spilling or worse: evaporating. I guess I will just have to suck it up and douse early and often before it’s too late.
Oh what a shame, hope u get to enjoy it before it evaporates.
I just remembered I had some of this delicious stuff and wore it earlier in the week. You smell lovely.
I’d love to try an osmanthus oolong too!
Scent CoSTUME NATIONAL EDP.
Love it. One of the best for men!!
Amazing!
TGIF!
Tea is French roast coffee extra super strong
SOTD L’artisan Tea for Two
oooh twins! the coffee is a good idea too…
Hey, twins! I’m doing the Tea for Two with extra strong coffee too!
I’ve missed this one. Such a delicious scent.
Can I pass my empty cup…
Me too, for both (too).
I still haven’t tried Tea for Two, really looking forward to sampling this one, sounds so perfect for autumn.
Quadruplets?
Today is Jo Malone Oolong Tea. The cocoa and tonka and sweet probably makes it more of a cooler weather scent, but is very good.
I am drinking some Hong Mei Mao Feng from Imperial Tea. Soooo good.
Wore Oolong the other day. It is nice and will be great when the weather turns a bit cooler. You smell beautiful and cozy!
Forgot the tea today, went with Oud Fleur (Tom Ford). TGIF everyone! 🙂
And to you!
You smell great!
Drinking some green Basilur green tea
listening to Bob Marley
Fragonard Jasmin Perle de The is my SOTD
Bob Marley and tea….sounds like a winning combo!
Vivienne Westwood Anglomania — rose, spices, tea, leather. Forgot how much I loved this one. It was a gift from my perfumista friend P, years ago.
Nice! I must seek this out.
All the things I like! Must try this one.
You smell great. I completely forgot Anglomania had a tea note! I could’ve worn that today…
Sounds gorgeous. Put this on my list, too.
Tea and cream: Oolang Infini and Philosophy Fresh Cream lotion
Nice mix!
Oolang Infini is so good. Your combination sounds delicious.
Oooh, nearly twins! I am wearing Fresh Cream layered with a bit of Rouge Bunny Rouge Sylvan, for a hint of delicious smokiness!
Ooh, I bet Fresh Cream goes well with smoky scents. I’m going to have to try that
I wore the Sylvan earlier this week. I love the smokiness!
Ooh, nice! I find I prefer Oolang Infini layered to solo.
Oh my! I have to try this!
With Fresh Cream perfume, not body lotion. I don’t use scented body lotion.
Happy Tea Friday! I am soaked in Bvlgari Black.
I have to work today, so I am lightly spritzed in Bulgari Black. A bottle of Bulgari Eau Parfumée au Thé Bleu is on its way to me.
Oh, Uh, so did I. I don’t recall any dirty looks today…
Nice!
Wowzer! I never want to run out so I have a back up to the back up of the back-up bottle.
I almost got to the tea accord…. herbal tea more like. SOTD is AG Mandragore Pourpre. It is one of my favorite “chill out” fragrances and I really need it after a hectic week! It’s been a while since I’ve worn this and now I definitely smell a kissing-cousins affiliation to Nuit Etoilee more than an affiliation to the original Mandragore. Cheers & have a great weekend!!
I remember liking Mandragore, though it has been a while.
I never did try the Pourpre – I didn’t care for the original (lavender, maybe)? I should find me one of those pretty purple bottles to go with my pretty blue Nuit Etoilee bottle!
Friday at last! What a week! My 15 yr old daughter had her gallbladder removed 2 days ago, and let’s just say that she has a low tolerance for pain! LOL I’ll be so glad when her stiffness and soreness is gone, so she can enjoy being pain free again! 🙂 There is nothing like illness or injury to make a teenager want her “mommy” again!
SOTD: Elizabeth Arden Green Tea and Bamboo. Very easy to wear, light and fresh, but longevity is zilch. I sprayed it on at 8am, and 2 hours in it’s gone. Oh well….
Have a good weekend everyone!!!
Oh, my! You have your work cut out for you 😉
Hope she is better soon!
Yikes. I hope you gave her a little bell to ring for service 😉 Seriously, I hope she feels better soon. I’ve heard from some quite stoic adults that it’s a rather uncomfortable surgery.
Oh dear — what an ordeal! I hope she feels better very soon.
Hope she feels better
Poor kiddo! Wishing her a speedy recovery.
I hope your daughter has a fast recovery.
Wishing her a speedy recovery!
Ach pain sucks!
When I had my gallbladder removed I was very uncomfortable for 2 days and then recovered really quickly. I hope she feels better soon!
Wishing her a fast recovery!
Hope she feels better very soon.
Wishing her a speeding recovery. That is quite an experience for a 15 year old. But, fortunately , they usually heal rapidly.
Oh no, how terrible! Poor thing. All my best wishes
Good luck…luckily the young heal so quickly! 🙂
Wishing her a speedy recovery and wishing you a great weekend!
THANK YOU EVERYONE for the kind comments! Kiddo is slowly improving, and enjoying lots of extra attention! LOL! 🙂
Planning on a weekend at home, relaxing and doing a bunch of nothing!
Ack! Your poor daughter! I hope she bounces back from this quickly.
Quick greetings on the Friday of the first week with students!
I am wearing most of a 1/2 ml sample of Masque Russian Tea today. It’s been on my to-try list for a few years, I think. Thankfully, I don’t think I *need* it, as it is hard to come by, but it’s very pretty and seems easy to wear thus far. Happy Almost-Weekend!
I like that one and don’t need it too.
I wonder when we switch from hoping we’ll find something we love to hoping we don’t?! 🙂
Methinks it’s when the invoices pile up and wallet shrinks…
In my case, it was at the 50 bottle mark 😉
I am a bit puzzled by the name. It is quite smoky, and I never heard of anybody in Russia drinking smoky tea.
I have old tins of “russian” tea and they are very smokey. Don;t know why though.
Russian in name or in origin? Perhaps, it is like I learnt that british call tea with lemon “russian”, though in russia they rather used to drink tea with milk
It *is* a very smokey scent!
I don’t have access to it just now, but my recollection of when I wore it was that I was hoping for smoky but mostly got fruit jelly (the kind that people add to tea.)
Really?! Every Russian tea I’ve had (according to the tea house), from actual samovars, has been quite smoky!
I haven’t come up with any ideas for the challenge todya, so I’m just going to do a pure jasmine – SL A La Nuit. And I’m drinking green tea with jasmine, to enhance the effect. It’s just from a teabag though, nothing fancy unfortunately (Teapigs).
Last week I started jogging again and – god it’s hard to get back on track. Everything hurts!
You smell great! And hope the joints calm down 🙂
I wish it was only the joints… 🙂 I can feel muscles I didn’t even know I had!
Ah, I know that feeling! Better the muscles than the joints, they recover quicker 🙂
I’m starting out in Elizabeth W. Sweet Tea (newly renamed Té), which was the only thing I could find this morning that suited the theme. I know I packed more tea scents but don’t know if I walked off without them or just hid them someplace.
Today is my birthday and I’m planning to spend most of the day puttering about outside, probably pulling out grass burs because I can’t not pull a weed if I see it. First, though, Mr. Minion is making waffles and fried eggs for brunch. Later, I will be very surprised to unwrap the huge bottle of Cuir de Russie and we will end the day with homemade fried chicken. I will have to pitch in to make the gravy, though. He isn’t patient enough and it always tastes raw when I don’t make it.
Tomorrow I plan to consume one stick of celery (not really, but it will be back to salad) and moan a lot about how I over ate today 😉
Happy birthday. It sounds like you will be properly celebrated!
A very happy birthday to you, and it sounds like it will be a perfect day! Enjoy your surprise CdR.
Happy Birthday! It’s ok to treat yourself on your day so enjoy it! One day won’t ruin a good diet in general.
Happy Birthday to you! Sounds like a fabulous day!
Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday! Glad to hear there’s good food and Cuir de Russie in your immediate future! 🙂
Happy Birthday!!! Enjoy your “surprise!”
Happy Birthday! Sounds like a great day all around????

Sounds wonderful. Enjoy your birthday treats!
Sounds like a wonderful way to spend a birthday. Happy Birthday to you!!!
Happy birthday! Those are some of my favorite kinds of gifts . . .
Happy birthday! Have a wonderful and joyful year. Jealous of your giant bottle that you don’t know about….
Happy Birthday and what a great “surprise” gift!!
Happy birthday!
Happy birthday!!

Happy Birthday! Enjoy the most!
Happy Birthday- you’re plans sound perfect!
Happy Birthday! Enjoy your putter.
Happy Birthday and all the best for the rest of the perfume year!
Happy Birthday…enjoy the CdR!
Happy birthday! Have a great day.
Happy Birthday!! Enjoy your day!
My family is often ‘surprised’ with gifts, too. ????
Happy birthday!
Hope you had a great day and what a lovely present from your hubby!
Happy birthday!
Happy Birthday, MikasMinion!
Maybe the surprise is you are getting 2 bottles 😉
Happy Birthday!
Happy mutual birthday. I spent mine sightseeing and going on rides at Tivoli. Haven’t been to an amusement park in a long time. My Airbnb hostess even got me a coffeecake.
Happy birthday! Hope you ate wonderfully!
No tea scents. Mohur Extrait todat. TGIF!
Gorgeous!
It’s a wonderful perfume, this one!
Love that one; you smell amazing!
I wore that Monday. You smell fantastic!
Beautiful!
Beauteous.
Perfection indeed!
The name contains T E A. You pass 🙂
Well, Tea Day hasn’t gone as expected. First I spritzed Russian Tea Caravan, and couldn’t smell anything. So I layered Oolang Infini over that, and got dirt (with no tea note that I could discern). So then I did what I should have done from the start – washed everything off and lavishly sprayed Mediterraneo. I llluuurrrve this one.
I llluuurrve this one too 🙂 You smell fab.
Tea with lemon? 😉
The Oolang Infini smelled like Eau de Black Pepper to me.
Needed some comfort and sweet so wearing layered Island Vanilla (with tea in the base) and Mexican Cocoa (with almond in preparation for next week’s challenge!)
That combo sounds fantastic, and a bit like recreating your moniker–vanilla, cocoa and almond. What house makes those scents? I didn’t recognize them. Enjoy your scent cloud!
That would be Pacifica Perfumes which makes them highly affordable and double the niceness!
It really does match my avatar…did not even think of that!
Mmm! I’m all out of my Island Vanilla, but I’m going to have to go sniff my Mexican Cocoa solid asap.
Hold on to that solid because not only is Mexican Cocoa discontinued but the entire line of solids will be as well…the rep who buys the Pacifica in my local health food store told me this and their supplies have dwindled extensively.
Thank you for mentioning that Mexican Cocoa has almond. I was wondering if I had anything to wear next week.
and it also has NUTmeg…which is a spice but the word ‘Nut” attached to it -LOL!
I’m in another discontinued L’Occitane love: White Tea.
I’ve been suffering from a rather annoying pinched nerve this week. It’s on the side of my neck so occasionally my shoulder will feel numb and I’ve even had a bit of trouble taking deep breaths (yawning is the worst), but hopefully it’ll go away soon so I can tile the kitchen this weekend.
Why does L’occitane do that!
Feel better!!
I hope you feel better. I’ve had a pinched nerve in my neck so I sympathize. It’s very painful.
Ouch! I hope you aren’t too uncomfortable.
Horrid- hope it sorts itself out soon.
Eeek, pain pain go away and never come back again!
Neck pain is so annoying. It’s like hip pain–no activity, including sitting on the couch, is quite pain-free.
I actually bought a tea sampler pack from TPC a few months ago. So, on my left wrist is The Pour Un Ete, a soft cinnamony scent. On my right wrist is Cedarwood Tea, which I love, being partial to cedar. On my left elbow is Russian Caravan, the most tea-like scent, on my right elbow is Osmanthus Yunnan, beautiful but fleeting. And the winner is on my left knee…Au The Vert, on my FB wish list. I love tea parties!
You ARE the tea party today. 🙂
The portrait you’ve chosen for your avatar is lovely.
Thank you!
Ooh, now you’re inspiring me to host my own “tea party”! I need to give Osmanthus Yunnan another sniff. I remember liking it well enough, but wasn’t floored by it.
I say you win the prize for today’s challenge!
I’m not usually a TGIF person, but Lord what a week. TGIFF! ;^)
My Friday scent was going to be SL “Five o’clock au Gingembre” but at the last minute I fancied something I though might be lighter. So SOTD is Penhaligon’s “Lothair”, from a sample given me in Toulouse earlier in the year.
Top: juniper, cardamom, bergamot, grapefruit, fig leaf and red berries;
Mid: fig tree, lavender, magnolia, geranium and black tea;
Base: vanilla, musk, cedar, ambergris, oakmoss and woody notes.
I find it hard to pick out individual notes in this one – I smelt the fig as it went on, and woody notes now. Didn’t get the the tea! It’s fine (which means it’s pretty darn good for a Penhaligon’s, most of their stuff sucks on my skin). Do I need more of it? No I do not.
That’s one of the few Penhaligon’s I like but I was never moved enough to buy it.
I heartily second your “TGIFF.”
OK, now I have to ask–what does the second F stand for?
Thank God It’s Flippin’ Friday. Or a stronger variant of same. ;^)
and I thought I was the only nutter reading and commenting at 5am 🙂 (unless of course you are somewhere else in the world and not up at this ungodly hour like me-LOL!)
“but LORD what a week”….LOL! I am right there with you 🙂
THANK GOD IT IS FRIDAY!
I often don’t get the tea note from purported tea perfumes either.
Got a sample of this one recently and in the store I thought it was quite nice but at home, not so much.
Come to think of it, many of us in the U.S. had Monday off, but yet the week felt like it took longer to get to Friday. I hope we all have a better week next week!
Agreed…on all counts!
Happy Friday, all! I’m scent-free at the moment, as I’m meeting some folks out in the field today and don’t want to be too perfume-y for that, but I’m planning on Thé Pour un Été later this morning. I’d forgotten about Osmanthe Yunnan, though, until I read through the comments here, so I may start with a wee dram of that, since it’s so light and fleeting on me that I don’t see how it could possibly offend.
Whenever I’m out hiking, I always notice that people I pass leave a trail of laundry detergent / fabric softener / Febreeze in their wake, and I wonder how many of them would say that they don’t like or don’t wear fragrance. They do, it’s just that they’ve let Dow Chemical choose their fragrance for them! 😉
Eau de Febreeze makes me sneeze.
My next door neighbor and family started using a new fabric softener a few weeks ago. Now I always know when they are doing laundry. The air vented out of their clothes dryer reminds me of walking into a Lush store. Heh.
you realize you made a rhyme …:)
Good point about the Febreeze! Hehe.
I’ve been using a scentless laundry powder, to counteract all the perfume I wear on a daily basis.
I used to love the smell of Tide but now I prefer my clothing to be as scentless as possible (for obvious reasons.) People who smell like laundry products in open air are probably following the manufacturer’s suggested portion when they launder their clothing (and layering with fabric softener.) I use about 1/4 of what they say to – less wasteful, better for fabrics, less scent.
You know someone once told me that Drakkar Noir was modeled after Tide (Drakkar used to make me weak in the knees whenever I smelled it on a man) I found that hard to believe until I sniffed a splash bottle of vintage and said ‘Yup…I can smell that”
Ha! Drakkar had the same effect on me too. My knees are buckling now just thinking about It! Lol!
I figure if I’m spending this much money on really expensive perfume, I don’t want other stuff interfering. And I don’t enjoy the smell of scented laundry products. But I can totally understand why people associate the smell of laundry detergent with “clean”, so I try to live and let live. As long as the white musk isn’t on me I don’t have to claw it off.
I’m wearing Five o’clock au Gingembre. I actually really like this as a summer-to-fall transition scent anyway.
Love this one!
I am in leftover Volnay Etoile d’Or. I am getting a spicy powder from it. Later I will try a tea scent..!
Spicy powder, you say? On to my ever-growing list it goes.
I got called out once again at work for wearing perfume and was asked by one of the big bosses to stop wearing it. So this morning all I did was spray a teeny spritz down into by top of Bulgari Eau Parfumee au The Bleu. I am drinking my usual Stash Chai Green Tea. So far no negatives about my teeny spray of perfume.
really? What scent was it?
Jeez! How humiliating. So sorry you have to deal with that.
Sorry to hear about the no perfume policy. What a bummer.
But go you! Rebel. 😉
That is so annoying. When you think about all the truly unpleasant odors one is subjected to over the course of the day . . .
Exactly.
Hang tough. Working in a scent free office is kind of a worst nightmare scenario to me.
Don’t like those kind of people 🙁
That is no good. I often wonder if those policies are first enacted through the janitorial crew, who use scented products by the gallon and ought to be seen as the first line of offenders.
I was asked by a co-worker to stop wearing perfume (granted, the day he asked I had way overapplied AC Santal Carmin, and a couple of weeks before had soaked my parka in Eau Merveilles, which even I got tired of smelling.) I complied but started wearing it again after my desk was moved a few feet away with no further complaints.
Now that it’s fall it seems one could get away with a spray or two on the decolletage buried under a sweater? At any rate, sorry for the recent events 🙁
Don’t tell them it is perfume…tell them it is your deodorant, hair spray, body lotion, hand cream (you get the picture 🙂 !!!) That is usually what I do whenever someone complains….
That really sucks.
Ugh, so sorry you had to go through this. Does your workplace have a fragrance-free policy or something of that nature? If there is, then, as much as it pains me to say it, you may want to consider perfumes with lower sillage / stays close to skin or, if you like gourmand, wear those instead, in moderation.
As someone who’s been the victim of others’ overzealous use of scented products (most recently, there was a girl who slathered on highly scented Victoria’s Secret hand cream, which always gave me a headache), I like to use rollerballs in lab. I don’t think it’s my imagination that rolling just a little bit multiple times a day leads to minimal scent diffusion, and no one’s ever called me out on it. Maybe you could buy some empty rollerballs and try it out with your favorite scents? Even though I know rollerballs don’t always have quite the same effect as sprays.
Kenzo Air Almost the last of my teeny tiny bottle. ????
Nice! My bottle is almost gone too, but Chanel Sycomore (sic) scratches the same itch.
For me. YMMV. 😉
Forgot my phones this morning so had to run back home after swiping for the subway to get them, then decided it would be faster to take the ferry to work so power walked and had to sprint 2 blocks to catch it in time. Needless to say, I’m a sweaty mess and in need of a shower. Mercury is retrograde I was told.
SOTD is Lubin Black Jade which has mostly evaporated after my sweaty ordeal. TGIF!!
Oh no. I hope that your day is improving. At least you smell lovely.
Thanks! My day is otherwise fine. I didn’t get the pleasure of being able to smell myself today and it’s pretty much gone now.
Ugh. Hate when I do that. Even worse when you’ve already paid and then can’t use the card for 20 minutes.
It’s Friday indeed! Makes it all bearable somehow.
Hope the rest of your day has gone well.
The 20 min deal was why I decided to take the ferry, since it’s only about a 3 min walk to the train.
I’m glad you caught the Ferry! I went to Barneys yesterday to pick up a pre-order of La Mer. Usually, I end up walking back to NYPenn but since it was hot and muggy and I saw the Q32 coming, I decided to take it. Halfway down, the driver announced that the last stop was 42nd St. (I HATE it when they do that because that is NOT how mass transit is supposed to work) and that if we wanted to go to Penn, we need to get out NOW and get on the bus that was straight ahead. I jumped off quickly and the bus ahead had just closed its doors but thank God the driver was kind enough to reopen the door but I refused to run my card through again. I know I would not be charged extra because it’s the same line going the same direction but really what an inconvenience!
You get to take a ferry to work! I am sure it gets old, but as someone who has never once been able to take a ferry as part of a commute, that sounds so wonderful! (I know that wasn’t the point of your story, and I’m sorry you went through that hassle, but how wonderful anyway!)
I am trying out some Baruti samples I received in my order from Perfumed Court. Today is Chai. Basenotes says cinnamon, cloves, ginger, cardamon, pepper, black tea, steamed milk, cocoa, roses, vanilla, musk and leather. interesting, but not too wearable for me.
I really liked their “Indigo”. :^)
Indigo was my favorite Baruti as well.
No tea scents in my collection right now, so SOTD is Portrait of a Lady. Got a compliment on it, too. 🙂
And here’s another one. Beautiful.
Portrait is such a compliment getter, and so perfect for this time of year!
SotD = Oooolang Infini. It smells soooo nice.
Tea + Cologne = mmmm, delicious
When I read the list of fragrance notes and see leather all I can think is “huh?” Oh well.
Happy Friday, NST.
I don’t get leather, either! I will say Oolang Infini hits me as sporty and outdoorsy–is that odd? I dig it, and get spontaneous compliments whenever I wear it. You smell great.
Outdoorsy is a perfect word for Oolang Infini. I think it hits those notes just right without going into “fresh aftershave” territory.
I ordered an Atelier Colognes sample set quite some time ago and thought Orange Sanguine would be my favorite. I do love it, and Cedrat Enivrant too. But Oolang Infini is so very very good. It’s what I would probably buy a bottle of if I decided I need one from Atelier.
“I dig it”…Love that! I bet you smell great in it 🙂
and I would agree it comes off as more outdoorsy to my nose too
Leather…really? I am surprised to…just like you I ordered the sample set of 30 and found that I really liked it…I do have a ginormous bottle of Orange Sanguine and a small of Vanille Insensee but I do like Oolang too. If you decide to get a full bottle I am going to suggest that you look on the discount sites which are starting to carry the Ateliers. It was either fragrancenet or fragrancex that had them for really good prices!
that would be “too” not “to”…ugh!
Oooh, thanks for the tip on buying Atelier Colognes!
On my first visit to the Elizabeth Street boutique, I could not smell Oolang Infini at all, so I got the soap instead, which I loved to bits and recall smelling the leather!
It’s funny, your comment reminded me that when I first sniffed all the Atelier Colognes in succession I couldn’t smell much in Oolang Infini and Trefle Pur. It was as if the other fragrances had put my nose to sleep. Then when I tried those two on their own a few days later they were much nicer.
And yay leather! Maybe I’m not sniffing hard enough to get it. When I think of leather I tend to think Big LEATHER like the inside of a handbag. I forget that in fragrance it can be little “l” leather in a supporting role.
Also, Oolang Infini soap? WANT. 😉
I highly recommend the soaps…I used the Orange Sanguine the entire summer…yes, one bar made its way through two months and then some…did not finish it!
and thanks for reminding me of Trefle Pur…that is a good one too!
L’Occitane Green Tea for this morning. I forgot I had this one and seeing how it really is doing nothing for me, time to swap it away!
I’m wearing L’Occitane Jasmine Green Tea – I really like this one and I’m sad it’s discontinud. My bottle is pretty old now and I have to say the top notes don’t smell that great any longer.
If it had been colder, I would have gone for Masque Milano Russian Tea, but the weather is ridiculously beautiful here.
Hey Annikky Can you please recommend me a good book. I know you’ve just finished A Little Life ( I had mixed feelings about that one ). I used to have the L’Occitane Green Tea. I also had a Lancome Green Tea scent back in the late 1990s …just trying to remember what it was as it was pretty good. Have a happy weekend …sounds lime perfectweather for dog walking and outdoor markets and cafes.
Aroma Tonic was the green tea scent. Happy memories of Germany.
This is such a responsibility… If you feel like reading something a bit less destructive than A Little Life, then I would consider Sarah Perry’s The Essex Serpent. It’s a historical novel and while you could argue that Victoriana has been done to death, I thought this was a fresh take. Great on atmosphere, characters, grown-up feelings and their complications. There is a gothic element to it, but I believe it would work for people who never read any kind of genre stuff. And despite being a proper book, there is a layer of playfulness to it that I enjoyed.
Also, have you read Stoner?
Thank you. I’ll look it up. I have read Stoner. If you liked that you might also like Canadian author Elizabeth Hay’s Late Nights on Air – set in a far north Canadian town in the 1970s. Similar careful prose and gentle insightful character study, beautiful imagery.
I thought someone would surely have posted this already: I’m in Berdoues Assam of India. It’s perfect for the hot, muggy day in Boston.
Twins. I thought it would show early too.
I am in Boston too so the weather is undoubtedly a factor. This is perfect for the awful hot thick air.
It IS perfect for hot stickiness and you smell great too! I should have worn my Assam today 🙁
You smell great! almost went for that one today but I think I have overdone it on my elephants 🙂
and yes, it really is a great hot weather scent!
SOTD is By Kilian Imperial Tea. I want to like this more than I actually do. I love tea, and I love jasmine tea in particular, but the blast of jasmine at the start is a wee strong for my liking. By the time it starts mellowing out, I’ve long forgotten that I’m even wearing it.
P.S. I think I need to bring more perfumes with prominent tea notes in my life. I remember loving L’Artisan’s The Pour Un Ete when I tried it years ago.
I like that one too. I have too many tea scents, apparently — did not come close to running through them all this week.
I was going to wear Providence Perfume’s Rose Boheme because it has a red tea note but it is just too hot today. It’s like a steam bath. Instead I am wearing Osmanthe Yunnan. I like it but it doesn’t last. I should finish my small decant by the end of the day.
Happy Friday All!
With you on the Osmanthe Yunnan. There is also something in a lot of the Hermessences that doesn’t 100% agree with me.
While I do think OY is a pretty scent, I can barely smell it after a half hour. I have allergies so skin scents don’t really work for me.
Friday projects give me a good reason to use up samples that are just hanging around. I wish I could find an Osmanthus scent to love but those that I’ve tried are either too fleeting or too sweet.
Have u tried Journey woman?- it’s my favourite, it is sweet tho.
I did try Journey Woman but didn’t really care for it. I thought that I would love it from the notes but it didn’t work on my skin. Thanks for the suggestion.
I’ve not loved the ones I’ve tried either, but can’t really put my finger on why.
Not a fan of tea notes, so, thanks to a thread yesterday about Parfums d’Empire, I’m in Tabac Tabou. I feel great – might spring for a decant of this one when my sample runs out.
Lovely. I drained my decant much faster than I had expected to and need to give my FB more attention. It’s beginning to feel like the right weather for it again.
Yes, it feels too thick for really hot weather, but warm weather is just right.
Scent twins, Robin! This is the one tea scent I was able to reach and it’s uplifting and envigorating.
I’ve haven’t checked in because I ended up having back surgery this week. My sciatica progressed to having an affect on my gait. The first day was terrible, but I feel more human today. I’m pretty sure my legs are starting to feel like they are having regular contact with the ground.
I had to wear something to the hospital because I knew it would be a wait before going to the OR. I dabbed a little Habit Rouge behind my ears and ever so carefully at my wrists, figuring that it would be gone by the time I went in. I just needed some fortification!
I hope you make a speedy recovery and feel better each day.
Thank you!
Oh surgery! I hope you have a very quick recovery!
Thank you. The perfume is helping.
Oh, I’m so sorry it reached that point but I’m glad that you’ve had it taken care of! Wishing you a speedy recovery and sending love and a very gentle hug. 🙂
Thank you , Holly. I was surprised but actually hadn’t realized how my walking had been affected.
I hope you recover quickly and feel 1000% better. Pamper yourself as you recover.
Thanks! That is good advice to speed recovery !
I hope you recover quickly and that the pain is gone!
Thanks- it’s amazing how the pain seems unbearable and then is tolerable within a few hours.
Really hope recovery is speedy for u.
Thanks!
Hope you are completely back on your feet soon.
Thank you. I asked the doctor about doing a half marathon – not that I’ve ever done it before….But, that would be exhilarating!
Hope you feel better!
Hope you feel better soon, it sounds as if you’re on the way to recovery.
Hey twin, and hope you are 100% better soon!
Hope you recover quickly and feel better soon!
Wishing you a speedy and complete recovery!
Get better soon – I’m sure it’s worth the unpleasantness in the end! Hugs from Brussels.
Speedy recovery!
Sorry it came to that but very glad you’ve come through it OK and are on the mend. You’ve earned some perfume treats as soon as you are able to shop again!
Sorry to hear that you had to have surgery. I hope that you will have a speedy recovery.
Speedy recovery, Wendysue! It’s a tough decision to have back surgery, but it sounds like it was the right thing for you.
WendySue! Glad you’re on the mend.
Thank you to everyone for your kind words of support!
I am sure I have scents with a tea note in the sample box but I wasn’t motivated to look, so I’m wearing my only one in bottle form–Osmanthe Yunnan. I’ll put on something heavier when it disappears shortly.
I wonder which perfumes smell like black tea, but not smoky? So far, i found one that smells like that to me, but it has NO tea notes listed whatsoever – Heeley’s Phoenicia. Otherwise, all I tried were either smokey, or took as an inspiration other types of tea, not black
I’m wearing Le Labo’s The Noir 29, and I am not a happy camper. There’s something that is just rubbing me the wrong way, and I can’t isolate it – I think it’s the cedar? It’s too bad, because for about 30 minutes there was the most beautiful tobacco note, but I had to wait 2 hours to get to it and it’s long gone now. When I get a chance, I will scrub and reapply something gorgeous.
I gave my husband a sample of Santal 33, and he thought that it smelled like cabbage. A Le Labo SA told me that Thé Noir is a combo of Santal and Rose 31. Do you get any cabbage from it?
I have a really, really hard time with certain cedars. Hopefully it scrubs easily!
I read that as “Ding Dong Oolong” and immediately thought of Hostess Cup cakes! Yikes????
SOTD is Vetiver Tonka. I need some sanity today.
Ha! (and you smell great)
OOHHH! I remember Ding Dongs! Do they still even make those? (and why is my mind always on food ?????)
I’m wondering why, too!
LOL!
Happy Friday! I’m wearing Bulgari Red Tea. I love the entire Bulgari tea series, and tea is my favourite fragrance note! Plus I’m enjoying a cup of Twinings Lady Grey with almond milk.
I’m wearing Vert. It’s funny, some days I like this very much and others I don’t, and today is mixed. I’ve never tried any of the others. Is Red your favorite?
Twin! You smell great.
I’ve been drinking a lot of Lady Grey lately (with regular milk). So lazy, as I have so many beautiful teas, but I cannot be bothered to make them. And they are mostly green and I just want some strong milky stuff.
I’m wearing Tea for Two today. Yum.
Twins! I was going to wear Bulgari The Bleu but I was craving spice, so Tea for Two it is.
Me, too! It was perfect today.
I’m sampling Assam of India today, and it is starting off very sweet, with a strong coconut note. Is that the Indian tea?
One of my cats came sniffing around my chest, licked, and immediately jumped off my lap. She must have liked the smell, but disliked the taste. It still smells like coconut to me.
wow! on me it is all about the lemons , assam tea and mysore sandalwood…wore it the entire summer daily and did not get coconut at all…..citrusy, woody and refreshing….
I may have gotten a mislabeled sample. I may order a sample from another company to see if that is the problem. I ended up putting on some Demeter Silvery-Tip Pekoe to cut the coconut.
I am wondering if you were sampling the Berdoues Salva do Brazil which might have a bit of a coconut vibe? Or the Vanira Morrea?
Comme des Garçons Leaves series Tea.
The whole Leaves series was great! I don’t remember Tea as well as I should. I should have sprung for Calamus from that series…and I think Lily was in there, too. CdG in those days really rocked. Enjoy your day, and now I”ll go digging in my samples, to refresh my memory! 😉
Testing samples received from the lovely Clarissa today… SHL Taklawhatsit at the moment. I definitely get that ‘hot sand’ thing.
Had a rather scrambled week with a sick kitty, but he’s on the mend and I think we’ll be able to avoid the hospital this time. We all had a good night’s sleep last night, cats and humans are feeling much more perky today. TGIF for sure, though.
Poor kitty! I hope he gets well soon.
If the dope wouldn’t eat so much of his fur, he wouldn’t get his innards stopped up. We’ve tried explaining this but for some reason he doesn’t listen. Silly furries.
Poor guy. The owner of the store where we buy our pet food has 2 store cats that have dense fur. He shaves them for the summer because he said they shed so much and develop frequent fur balls. I must say they look mighty cute.
Hope kitty recovers! And you smell great in Taklawhatsit???? It’s one if the few vanillas I’m moved to own.
I’ve been a no-vanilla gal until fairly recently. Now I’ve found a few I like: Atelier des Ors Lune Feline, Diptyque Benjoin Boheme, Olympic Orchids Olympic Amber. Earlier this week I tried the new Elizabeth & James Nirvana Bourbon, and quite liked that despite the vanilla sledgehammer. Could it be that I’m coming around to vanilla??
I’m curious about Lune Feline. OO Amber was too medicinal for me. I rather like vanilla as a drydown, but not particularly drawn to it as a leading role. I suppose I have my exceptions, SL Un Bois Vanille for one, and now the SHL.
I will be offering Lune Feline at the splitmeet 🙂
Glad your kitty is okay. They don’t really follow sensible instructions very well, do they?
You smell great. Taklamakan is one of the few vanillas I can wear without a headache. I don’t know how he did it, but it’s really amazing stuff. I thought I had just begun to appreciate vanilla as a note and tried sniffing a few others just to see if maybe…nope, nope, nope.
SOTD L’Artisan The Pour un Ete. Refreshing for another hot and humid day in the Big Apple. Have a great weekend everyone!
I’m in Montale Jasmin Full. Not a tea perfume, but it does remind me of Chinese jasmine tea. Whenever I ever go out for Chinese food, this is what I’m wearing.
Does anyone else think about the type of food they will be eating when selecting a perfume?
Yes 🙂
YES!
SOTD = L’Occitane The Vert layered with Bvlgari Eau Parfumee Au The Vert
Scent cousins with Robin!
I was lucky to have received a practically full bottle of Au The Vert from Sajini! I opened my hoarded 20 mL bottle of the L’Occitane The Vert earlier this week. The combination of these two is mmm good – I smell like a refreshing glass of iced tea with extra lemon!
Deva, yes, it’s a new avatar of a “borrowed pet”. He’s my brother’s 8 years old Cavalier King Charles spaniel, fully grown at 12 pounds. Virtual pets are so satisfying 🙂
I generally dislike porcelain figurines and their ilk, but I have fancied a pair of antique Cavalier King Charles spaniels for a while, especially the hilarious Victorians with great facial expressions. Great avatar!
Thanks! Did you get the figurines?
I’m wearing Vert, too!
I saw a darling little dog around noon that looked like possibly a long-haired spaniel, also white, black and brown. But she had a fluffy tail, so I’m not sure. It is super hot here today, and she was panting and flouncing to try to redirect her owner’s attention away from the cellphone and to getting her back home ASAP.
Cavaliers do have quite fluffy tails. And they do tend to be quite dramatic, so it probably was.
That sounds exactly right! Lovely little creature. Thanks, ScentSpirit!
And they thrive on attention!
Yay twin! Floppy ears and fluffy tails! BTW, I must have used my iPad to search for the Mugler Les Exceptions because a picture of one keeps popping up somewhere on my screen!
Hey cousin!
Waving at you 🙂
We are half-sisters?
Close enough 🙂
Well, hello there! I’m another cousin–from the Rouge branch of the family.
Hysterical!
Hey Cuz!!!
It’s Friiiiiidaaaaaay!
My tea scent for today is Bvlgari Eau Parfumée au Thé Rouge. I’ve left my poor bottle unused for quite a while, so yay for today’s project.
Have a great weekend, NSTers.
You have a great weekend!
Thanks! Will do. And right back at ya!
Gosh, I was so busy fighting the iPad spellcheck gremlins that I didn’t bother with the accents!
Spellcheck: it’s simultaneously useful and infuriating, amiright!?
I see a lot of people wore Bulgari but nobody else wore my favourite of the entire line, Omnia. The tea note (milky chai) isn’t particularly strong but it’s such an interesting scent.
Yum 🙂
Double yum!
Twins! I am very late today and was surprised it took so long to find someone else wearing Omnia. I had forgotten how much I like it.
Day of paralysis. Two hour oncology clinic scheduled for my son this afternoon. We are now five years in remission, so this must be PTSD. Bleck! I planned on wearing Sideris today (I think my sample is from Clarissa!), but for some strange reason I can still smell the En Passant I applied last night (I am pretty sure I could no longer detect it after about 45 minutes). I should probably just take a hot shower and face the day with a new frag and better attitude.
Hope the appointment goes well.
That’s tough – hope all goes well.
Good luck with the appointment for you’re son.
Goodness me, you are so strong. Thinking of you and hope it goes well.
I hope it goes well!! Sending you good fragrant wishes
Adding my hopes that this all goes well.
Hope all goes well.
I hope all news is good! Big hug, OF.
It’s so unfair for anything to happen to a child. Thinking of you, Oakland Fresca!
Fingers crossed!
Best wishes to you all.
sending good vibes….
I’m virtually standing with you in solidarity.
Thinking of you and your son and hoping all goes well.
Best of outcomes to you and your son.
Happy Friday, NST! I just got new samples from DSH, and tried La Fete Nouvelle. (Mals, you are an inspiration and an enabler!) It’s lovely. Very soft, nearly a skin scent that could work for perfume hating environments. But no tea to my nose. Almond, florals, mane hay and musk.
My tea these days is so plebeian. I’m stuck on PG Tips, a touch of sugar and FF half n half. I have a cupboard of fancier loose teas, but honestly, this is what I crave. Simple tastes. Be well.
P.G tips is just right a lot of the time for me too!
I like PG Tips and even Twinnings in a pinch. They are readily available and usually fairly fresh (as far as shelf time, if nothing else) and since I like tea sweetened and with milk, they’re fine for me. I do like better teas as well, but I’m lousy at being a tea or coffee snob. I’ve been known to microwave three day old stuff without complaint.
Another lover of PG tips and since I am currently on a tight budget they do the trick of giving me super strong black tea….I have several samples of DSH from the lovely and generous Holly…I may give them a whirl next week…..
PG Tips is tea? I think I saw it (them?) mentioned in a book once, and inferred from context it was some form of tobacco.
IMHO the best affordable strong black tea that can be purchased in a supermarket….I am on my second cup right now 🙂
No tea today– I had already doused myself in Schiaparelli Shocking before I remembered. Ah, me.
Will you make up for it tomorrow? How is Shocking on you? I bought vintage but have yet to smell it.
Mine’s vintage too, and boy is it racy. It compares to tea perfumes the way drambuie compares to tea. Both have their beauty, but I guess I unconsciously wanted to be intoxicated rather than perked up by today’s perfume…
Oy, racy scares me!
As noted above, super hot and muggy today in the US NE and so I went for the elephants of Assam of India. Inspired to pull out my sample of the Masque Milano Russian Tea once I am safely ensconced in a/c this afternoon. I remember liking it and thinking it need a chill for a good test drive.
Happy weekend to all!
I like Russian Tea, but yes, probably best not to try it in the heat:)
(Btw, I did a rambly review of A Little Life on the blog. I promise this is the last time I mention that book here.)
Yay to the elephants!!!! do you have a full bottle? what row are you up to?
My 4 year old started school this week, and she’s loving it, so I’m feeling happy and satisfied that this first week went well. Phew! 3 year old is totally worn out from his first full day at pre school and asleep on the sofa, he also fell asleep in the hairdresser’s chair yesterday, poor little man. Big adjustments for us all.
Wearing Epic woman today, I hadn’t thought about the tea note before, but can smell it now I know it’s there!
Wearing a long red/beige and brown Paisley maxi dress, the colours and pattern remind me of potpourri, so I always wear rose perfumes with it.
Big changes indeed, so it’s good they’re both doing well! I like the idea of matching fragrances to colours. :^)
Bet you’re proud of them! Quite a milestone in family life.
Wow. What a big week for you all! (That’s so cute your little guy fell asleep in the chair. A dude after my own heart!)
That is so cute!
Thanks guys!
I came across the new Zadig&Voltaire perfumes yesterday. Honestly, I do not understand how perfume ordering works in our local shops. We get some scents like Zadig&Voltaire close to overseas release dates while others, like Angel Muse, are a no-show. Really odd. I tried both the Her and Him…the Him is $30 cheaper per hundred mls and when I asked why was told that ‘ women have more expensive tastes than men.’ I liked them both. The Him reminded me a little of Tokyo Milk’s bulletproof or D Ssquared Wood i.e. Woody but creamy but it did have a weird faint note of luncheon sausage. I preferred the male to the female but that is probably because I sprayed the male version liberally whereas the assistant sprayed a frugal dose of the Her. The Her had a nice skin element which I liked. Also slightly off in the mix of aquatic and wood and vanilla…off as in off kilter ….it comes in 30ml sizes which makes it more tempting. Great bottles. But Mitsouko is cheaper ( on the bargain table ) . Also noticed Cacherel Eden and Tom Ford for Man in the outlet shop…so strangely satisfying day. Wearing Hypnotic Poison ….mmmmm yum.
Any new (to me) marque I come across now I am mentally labelling “deferred to 2017”. Including Zadig & Voltaire, which I came across in BHX airport last Sunday. (My very superficial first reaction was that it’s a pretentious brand name. I’ll eat my words if I find it’s made by old friends Mary Zadig and Joe Voltaire).
Pretty sure the name comes from the novel. If you buy the men’s scent you get a free set of headphones but the women’s scent comes with a cosmetic purse. I thinkthey will bothend up kn the bargain table as Zadig&Voltaire clothing isn’t available here so there is less context forthe scent’s identity.
‘Women have more expensive tastes than men.’ Ha! I was once told by a maître d’, after asking for a better table, that ‘women were allowed to change their minds.’
You smell great.
I saw window advertising for the Zadig and Voltaire as I headed home from work yesterday, I’m not familiar with that line, so will be investigating 🙂
Oh, I see! It’s all so clear now! The reason the most basic plain-white t-shirt costs me more than a men’s one made of three times more material is because I have more expensive taste. ???? …I’ve never figured out what that ‘explanation’ is even supposed to mean–let alone to whom it’s supposed to make sense.
I haven’t posted in a couple days…my three year old has walking pneumonia but is on the mend. 🙂 She had a persistent low fever, which seemed like a regular cold at first, then developed a nasty cough. So grateful for antibiotics and general access to medical care/technology.
I am commando but have, not one…but two!!! packages arriving w/ Guerlain goodies from the STC sale today…I am just waiting for the delivery texts to ping me so I can retrieve them from the mailbox. 😉
TGIF!
Oh dear, hope she is better soon!
Get-well-soon wishes to your little one! Enjoy those Guerlain goodies.
That stinks! Hope your 3-year old gets over that ASAP!
I got my package 2 days ago and will dip into them this weekend, I think!
Hope so much she is totally better soon. How scary for u..
Enjoy you’re new perfumes, u definitely deserve a treat!
SOTD – Oloong Infinity
Nice!
Am in vintage Fendi which registers as tea to me.
Interesting, must check that out!
Oh, and speaking of tea, can anyone recommend a good jasmine? I’ve about a cup left of some David’s Butterfly Jasmine, which is divine – buttery, rich, and smooth. It’s a green jasmine.
I had Tea Forte jasmine green tea in a Chinese restaurant here and loved it. I had the pyramid-shaped tea infuser with the leaf on the end, but I see on Amazon that it also comes loose in tins. It’s organic, too.
One of my favorite jasmine teas is the White Jasmine Tea from the Republic of tea. It’s kind of hard to find in stores, so I usually order it directly from their website.
Hey does anybody have the September discount codes for STC?
I just checked, and nope. Sorry.
Bulgari au the bleu for me today as well 🙂
Baruti Chai for me today which has cocoa included with the spices. Not really sweet and I don’t register tea so much as a slight astringency. Will definitely try it again in cooler weather
SOTD = a couple of spritzes of CBIHP Russian Caravan Tea, courtesy of Hajusuuri. It works great in this nasty hot, humid weather.
Not sure I ever saw any discount codes for STC other than the Guerlain closeout ones…
You smell great! I have quite a few tea scents and this one doesn’t offend scent phobes!
Thank you, for both the sample and the compliment! I think this is the first tea scent I tried that I have liked. I admit that I haven’t tried a lot of perfumes with tea as a major note.
I’m joining Robin and others in Eau Parfumée au Thé Bleu. Just love this one 🙂 .
And what did I learn in this first week back at school? I like tea in my cup, but in my scents – not so much. Good to know.
I enjoy making new discoveries in these projects too. For example, I was really surprised to find I didn’t like most Leather scents, because IRL I bracket leather with tobacco, coffee and other smells that appeal to me. But in perfume format what mostly came through was the smell of the shoe polish and not of the polished shoe, if that makes any sense?
SOTD=PPC Osmathus Oolong
L’Artisan Tea for Two, which today, for some reason, is a little sweeter than usual. I like it–perhaps my own natural bitterness is abating? Anyway, before I read what everyone else is wearing, I’m going to have some sorbet. Golden kiwi, lemon, and ginger turned out to be a good combination. (Having a sorbet turn out particularly well is what passes for excitement in my life lately.)
nothing wrong with small pleasures…that sorbet sounds divine!
