Happy Wednesday! If you have a minute, do tell us what fragrance you're wearing today.
I'm wearing Alaïa Paris by Azzedine Alaïa.
Reminder: this Friday, 11/6, will be Enabler Pin Friday: bestow a pin on someone who convinced you that you just had to try (or buy) a fragrance. And of course, wear the fragrance!
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2015, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Cachou Voile jacket shown above is $1575 at Browns: "Respected for his timeless designs that exude Parisian-chic, Azzedine Alaia remains an iconic figure in the fashion realm. This black and white 'Cachou Voile' jacket is a prime example of the designer’s class and innovation. The tight-fitting nature and visible front zipper gives his signature femininity a contemporary edge."
My SOTD is Tea for Two. I seem to get more spices and leather out of this than tea. Still a great scent though.
I never did fall in love with it, but agree it’s a great scent.
Me too. I get spiced cookies or cake, not so much tea.
Me three, and, I’m ok with that! I confess that true tea scents are often not my thing. (Which is weird, it sounds like a good idea, but in practice, I’m not sure I have even one I really like.)
Enabling moment here–C.H. have you tried Imperial Tea (jasmine tea)? I’ll send you a decant if you haven’t… I think it is crazy good…
OOH. That is a very enticing rec and a very generous offer–consider me enabled! I will run up to Saks here to give it a test and then I might very well be thrilled to see if I can swap you for a decant! You’re so sweet to offer, thank you!
Me 4 – I love the smell of a fresh cuppa, but the tea note in perfume is too abstract for me. I think it’s because tea fragrances are missing the earthiness/wet leaves.
Regardless – I’m still hoping I’ll find the perfect tea perfume, so I’ll keep trying!
I think I am repeating myself, but T4T reminds me of some Celestial Seasonings spice tisanes… really nice, especially on a cold day!
T-4-2?
Or 2-4-T, 4 me & U and U& me 🙂
I got a sample of this a couple of weeks ago, and it’s growing on me after a few wears. It wasn’t what I expected from the reviews, but on reflection I realised I hadn’t been quite sure what I expected, and I like it.
Wearing the beautiful Indigo Vanilla from EnVoyage. I love this stuff.
Was out sampling yesterday and was trying on Neroli Daim from Musc et Madame which I found quite animalic but the SA was saying how much she liked it for being fresh and clean. Say what? Clearly a musk perception issue which I found fascinating. Also, why hadn’t I ever tried Estee Lauder Spellbound before?!?
Or a selling point?
The scent is described by the manufacturer as having a pronounced warm animalic drydown so it’s definitely not intended to be seen as fresh
Right, I meant I wonder if the SA thought that would be a better selling point 🙂
For the next couple days, it won’t be too hot or too cold. But today it Amouage Epic Woman. It just fits today.
I get that. Epic is good for those perfectly temperate sort of days.
In the spirit of the Fig Week, I’m wearing Womanity. It’s not among my big loves, but I like the idea (and also the execution) of salty figs.
Scent twins! I have a small travel spray of this – sometimes I like it, sometimes it is just too strange. Its working pretty well today.
Hello, twin! I’ve got a travel spray, too – that was one reason I bought it, as I like smaller bottles (although the two refills meant it wasn’t that much cheaper than a big bottle).
Ooh – that’s on my list to try. It just sounds so weird, but cool. Unfortunately my go-to Surrender to Chance only has a Womanity flanker available. Any idea where I can get a sample?
I found my inexpensive travel spray at fragrance net.
Never mind – I’m getting a sample from the Perfumed Court! Buying now with that flash sale discount. 🙂
Thanks for the enabling Mals86!
I think it’s cool, too, in that OTT Mugler way.
I am on a staycation this week. I am wearing my old Kiehls Vanilla Essence oil.
What fun — have a lovely week off!
Roma Imperiale today. Easy top 5, and such a good ‘me’ fit.
I got a sample of this a couple of years ago and loved it, but forgot about it…will have to find and try again.
Never smelled it, but now must try.
If you had to choose a top 5 today, Perthie, what would they be?
I’ve thought about this you know, to work out what the minimum number of bottles I could cull down to if I ever had to. Hypothetically of course. Maybe 30. But there would still be tears and tantrums.
So, 5 is nigh on impossible- it doesnt really even cover day/night/warm/cool etc..
But I waffle.
Ok.
Roma Imperiale
Lyric. and Epic 🙂
Manoumalia
Mito voile d’extrait
MPG Ambre Dore.
But that also includes Yvresse, Organza Indecence, Songes, Bandit, Fracas, Wit, l’air de Rein…. 😉
and yours? 🙂
Ah yes, that famous Lyric and Epic scent! Kinda like my desert island Coco and No. 5….
hehe. they’re so sneaky when they stick together like that 😉
Coco No5 sounds great too actually!
Tears and tantrums – understandable.
I love Lyric, and I’m putting the rest of yours on my to-try list.
At this exact moment, if I aaaaaabsolutely had to choose my top five:
1) L’air de Rien (this will always be on the list)
2) Feminite du Bois (this will also always be on the list)
3) Natori
4) One sandalwood is absolutely necessary, and at the moment would be either Bois des Iles or Tam Dao
5) I’m thinking I’m veering towards Jean Louis Scherrer right now for its greenness. I’ve really been loving my sample lately, even when I was sick.
I wonder what our choices say about us.
I haven’t tried the Scherrer- adding it to my list. Aside from that one (but including a green scent), I think yours are very feminine in the best kind of way-a combination of nurturing and gentle, edgy and interesting, warm, sexy, intelligent and versatile. Imagine what a top 10 could say! Lol 😉
And I think I’m going to have to wear Natori for enabler pin day thanks to you 🙂
You’re probably going to miss this so I must tell you tomorrow – you’re so sweet!!
And I’m delighted to know that I brought you and Natori together. I have *no* doubt you’ll wear it well.
I love Manoumalia!! I have just a tiny decant and it might be my next splurge. Might even put it on today if it continues to not-rain.
PS If you ever wanted a little bit of vintage Scherrer I could send you some…
Mmm i might just have to wear some Manoumalia today myself 🙂
Thanks so much for the offer JJ, but sending it to Aus may be more hassle and expense than it’s worth I fear :-/
LOVELOVELOVE Roma Imperiale!
Easily in my top 5 as well
And a few from your tops list are top of mine as well (Lyric, Yvresse, Organza Indecence, Songes, Fracas….)
Others on my tops list are: Teo Cabanel Alahine, Balmain Jolie Madame, Love, Chloe, Dior Mitzah, PdE Musc Tonkin, Lalique Le Parfum, and about 10 more I can’t live without!!
I know! Still so many gaps! rose, violet, leather…
Is your Jolie Madame vintage? I still havent managed to sniff that yet and am wondering if it’s a ‘vintage or dont bother’ deal?
My Jolie Madame is from the 90s, so not true vintage, but it’s prior to the latest reformulation. I actually think the current Jolie Madame is good. I wouldn’t say don’t bother. Once the current dries down it’s almost identical, I find the difference in the top notes, so only the first 5 minutes are subpar compared with vintage. The beginning phase of the current forumla is less earthy/spicy/suede-y than it used to be, but if someday that’s all I have I will still love it
Sounds like i might just have to cave in and try it.. Thanks for that info 🙂
I am sticking with violet week and am wearing Bois de Violette.
Bois de Viloette is next on my must-try list. I really hope I love it as much as I think I will.
Is this your own personal violet week (or did I miss something 😉 )? Hmm. Violet is always good in late fall, for me. Off to think about violets.
International Fig Week! Per: https://nstperfume.com/2015/11/03/tuesday-scent-of-the-day-113-2/
(no figs in my perfume, thankyouverymuch. 🙂 )
I’ll wear figs for both of us 🙂 (although I would enjoy joining violet week too!)
That’s a great one! You smell lovely.
You smell lovely. It’s a beautiful scent, but faint on me – I probably cannot smell (some of) the musks. But I should try again, maybe my nose has developed!
You smell lovely! Bois de Violette is one of the few where I’ve bought a back up bottle.
SOTD is Gucci EDP (brown juice, heavy clear bottle). Sooo good.
Yep. Awesome stuff 🙂
Read yesterday that it was fig week. The only fig fragrance I have is an old Bath & Body Works body spray that I have not used since last year this time is called Brown Sugar & Fig. I bought it because I read on one of these blogs that it was a good cheapy fig fume, and, they were right. It is sweet, woody, fruity and vanilla. BBW is just around the corner from my office, and every once and a while I pop in at lunch, just to see what they have. I liked a few of their fragrances that of course were discontinued, as was this. Brown Sugar & Fig is just a tad sweeter that I usually like or wear, but, hey, at this rate, this will last me for the rest of my life, unless I get too clean crazy and get rid of things I don’t wear much. It is cozy, nice for the fall and to wear to the office. and I know it will wear off before I go out to dinner at a jazz club tonight, where I will wear Bois des Iles or Bottega Venetta.
I usually hate (really really hate) fig notes in perfume, but this one I can manage. My sister used to wear it.
It is nice, and it is already getting softer. I wish that some of my more expensive fumes had as much sillage as BBW . BTW, I bought Velvet Tuberose because of one of your posts, and quite a few others, so I think you definately get enabler status.
Bois des Iles and Bottega Venetta are perfect jazz club scents. Well chosen.
Today, I got into my sample of Iris Cendre for the first time. I love its sweet smokiness. I’m slowly venturing out into the world outside of ChanelLand, and Iris Cendre is a thrilling win.
It is lovely, indeed. And elegant, like most Chanels.
Yes, and getting lovelier, too.
Commando today-but had a beautiful shower though with Sweet orange and cedar bath foam. Its call happy Buddha. I am happy.
Oh, that sounds nice!
I’m wearing Donna Karan Chaos. I love the old DK scents so much.
Beats Be Delicious 😉
Totally forgot I was going to wear Ashoka for Figgie week. I am in Mohur extrait instead. Neela Vermiere is my hero.
great choice.
I only have (and love!) Mohur. I want to try the extrait one day, but not sure if I should go there, given the price.
I decided to dress like a Dick Van Dyke Show-era Mary Tyler Moore today, and somehow Cuir de Lancome is what I ended up reaching for in that mood. Not sure why, but seems to be working.
Also, that jacket is niiiice.
I like the jacket too.
Seems almost Tyler Moore-ian, doesn’t it?
I love that jacket…wouldn’t it be nice to wear something so beautiful…only if I win the lottery, better buy a ticket at lunch:)
I’m currently considering where I might find something similar…may need to go to thrift stores and search, and if I find two, you get the second.
I can completely understand that pairing.
And yes, that jacket is gorg!
Glad it makes sense to someone other than me!
I love CdL too I dont know why I dont wear it more often.
That jacket is something I’d buy too, for a much friendlier price.
Not to enable or anything (riiiiight…) but The Perfumed Court has a 20% flash sale today, 10am to 10pm eastern time, discount code FLASHTPC. I’m breaking down and getting samples of L’Air de Rien and Misia.
Am SO RELIEVED the election is over. Going to dig through my dish full of untested samples and try at least two things today.
Thank you so much for breaking this news! Going shopping now!
Testing O Durbano Rock Crystal (very nice, so far) and Heeley Cardinal (also very nice).
Thanks Mals!
I think I’m liking Cardinal more as the two dry down – it’s more benzoin where Rock Crystal is woodier (cedar maybe?).
And everyone is welcome to the TPC discount code. I’m not affiliated – I order about evenly from TPC & STC, and occasionally from the Posh Peasant or Lucky Scent.
(My next full-price bottle will come if at all possible from Arielle Shoshana.)
Thanks for letting us know. I went and ordered Misia, 31 Rue Cambon, Bois des Isles, and TF Jasmine Rouge. Want to see if I like any of them.
Today I am wearing BV Eau Legere again. I am still not sure I like it since it has the Patchouli.
Wearing Vanille Absolument (thanks NSTer!!!!), and I have to say that I really love wearing it. I feel very at-home in it, and kind of wish I had taken a chance and blind-bought a bottle for relatively cheap a while back. Oh well… I’ll just enjoy my decant immensely in the meantime.
Hello all. It’s been a while.
I got married, had a week off, and then promptly got horribly ill. I’m finally starting to feel better. Not quite 100% yet – more like 80 – but I’m getting there.
I couldn’t smell anything, let alone breathe, for a week so I’m finally wearing perfumes again. I’ve got Opus VI on today. I wanted something woody.
I think our wedding “ceremony” could go down as the shortest. 4 statements and less than two minutes long, which suited us just fine ;). The weather was perfect and I’m anxiously awaiting photos from my photographer. We had lots of autumn-y photos in the woods by the hotel where we were married. I wore a black two-layer dress. There was an under slip thing and then a sheer chiffon on top with a pleated skirt and a cross hatch design of velvet and gold stitching. Nothing overly fancy and the fact that it was black suited me perfectly (although made my mother pause). My perfume was Lyric Woman.
Since we did a self-unifying license that had to be signed by witnesses we decided to hold a raffle! There’s only two signature places and my sister came up with the idea, which the fiance and I loved. He was more into it than I was and even went to the craft store and bought fancy tags and a cute stamp of two birds kissing to put on one side of each tag for people who put in their names. Typically, the two biggest clowns out of our whole group of friends ended up being the ones picked to sign the license. 🙂 It was a lot of fun and the hotel we were at for the event was fantastic.
Congratulations! Your wedding sounds wonderful, and I sure hope you didn’t get sick until all the festivities were over.
Thanks.
I got sick afterwards. My photographer, who is also a long-time online friend, came down from Canada to shoot the event and she was battling a cold. I think I may have gotten it from her, but it didn’t really hit me until almost three days later. By then everything was over and guests were gone so I just went into hermit mode in the house.
That all sounds so awesome!! Congratulations, best wishes, and more! Particularly love the dress–I have something similar and it’s really one of my favorites. You looked smashing!
Thank you! I was giving my family a heart attack because I didn’t decide on my dress until literally the night before. I had bought a dress and then my mom bought me one a few days before and I was very lukewarm about everything. I kept asking the fiance if I could just wear jeans :p. That’s how casual it was was for us, but I ended up wearing the black dress (from Macy’s) because it was the most comfortable.
A good reason for choosing it!
Congratulations!
Thank you. 🙂
How wonderful (except the getting sick part) — huge congrats, and may you have many happy years to come!
Thank you much. Getting sick is a small price to pay for having a really great friend and photographer come shoot our wedding 🙂
Congratulations!!! So glad you had the experience you wanted, and you smelled fantastic. The dress sounds pretty great too!
Sorry about the sickness though.
Thanks. We definitely had the completely laid back type of wedding we wanted with no stress, no real schedule, and lots of good food.
Oh, congrats! Marriage is a beautiful thing! Enjoy! And glad you’re feeling better.
Thanks. A friend asked if we felt different. We said we’ve been together for 11 years, so technically no. But we’ll be glad to feel the reduced taxes this year 😉
Awww! Congrats! We also only got married after 15 yrs together and were asked that same thing. Initially, no, but something feels different in a good way. Can’t quite name it, though.
I also wore black 😀 Your dress and perfume choice sound perfect.
Congratulations–and I love your choice of perfume! Lyric is one of my favorites and I can see it working perfectly with that dress.
I really wasn’t entirely certain what perfume I’d even wear. I was so ambivalent about everything! But once I put on the dress and decided it would be that one I wanted something just as dark and comforting so of course Lyric came to mind. I actually only had it in a decant and used up the last of it that day!
So this is all justification to buy a FB now – because anniversaries :p
Black velvet seems very Lyric-appropriate.
I’d love the know what perfume everyone selected for their wedding/ civil union day….Great Wedding Perfumes. I wore Opium….that’s how old I am!
Congratulations. Hope you have many more years of fun and adventures…and get to spend your tax money on great scents
I couldn’t tell you what I wore 20 years ago when I got married! I wore perfume for special occasions, so I’m assuming I wore Cabochard.
Well, nearly 44 years on, my memory may be all up the boohoi, but I’m pretty sure that I wore Vivre, which I think is/was by Molyneux. I’d love to smell it again and see what my 19-year old self found so entrancing, but I’ve not only never seen it for years, I’ve never even heard a whisper of it.
Congratulations. I once read somewhere that the shorter/less expensive the wedding, the longer and happier the marriage–statistically at least! Priorities. (And I’ve been very happily married for going on two decades–And we had a full-blown wedding…so I’m not criticizing larger weddings. Just sayin’!!)
Thank you.
I think a lot of people have heard that saying and while there may be a teensy bit of truth to it – I think that saying is used more to let people know that they should have whatever kind of wedding suits them and no matter what – long or short, expensive or cheap – doesn’t really have bearing on how you really feel for each other.
My sister had a traditional wedding as well and she would say she’s happier than a pig in slop 😉
Warmest congratulations, Jenkr. I wish you all good things. Your day sounds perfect!
Thank you very much. It was definitely perfect for us.
Yay for being Mrs Jenkr! 🙂
Sounds like a great time!
My body does that to me too- it keeps up with stress and busy and long hours and lots to do and as soon as I begin to stop it stops completely and ensures that I cant even leave the house..
Hope you feel 100% soon 🙂
Ha, yes, actually I did have a sore throat the night of our wedding, but I think it was from talking so much because I was fine Sunday. Perhaps that was my body warning me that once it’s all over I need to recharge.
Thank you. I’m Mrs… me (kept my maiden name). Ha!
Congratulations! And we’ll done on having the wedding you wanted, I’ve been to some uncomfortable occasions where the families have pressured the couple into doing what the families wanted.
I did the same as you and kept my name when I was married for a few years a long time ago, but my in-laws never understood how that could be possible, and always referred to me as Mrs Husband’s Name.
Congrats! Wishing you Health and Happiness! 😀
Congratulations that sounds like a lot of fun!
Congratulations! Your dress sounds lovely, and Lyric is one of my favorite perfumes. Much happiness to you both. 🙂
Huge congratulations, jenkr! Your hubby sounds like a hoot! Glad you’re feeling better.
Cuir d’Ange. Seems perfect for a slightly cool fall day.
one of my favs!
Bottega Veneta, wonderful.
I think I either swapped for or was given a mini of Bottega Veneta, but now I’m forgetting where I put it…Such a good one.
In the spirit of Fig Week, I’m wearing JM Wild Fig & Cassis. Unfortunately, I spilled too much on myself from the sample vial, so I’m kind of hating it at the moment. Hoping to recover to I can wear one of the figs I like better tomorrow: L’AP Premier Figuier or Diptyque Philosykos.
Sorry you are having a bad experience with WF&C. Its one of my favorite figs. Since my bottle is in my suitcase and I can’t grab it at will, I do have a sample decant of Philosykos. I sprayed a tad on to see if I could smell the difference. Philosykos is a bit sweeter in my opinion but doesn’t last very long on me.
I’m wearing musc tonkin.
You smell AMAAAAAAZING
Yum! Edp or extrait? Both are lovely but l’m partial to the extrait…
Edp. I’ve never smelled the extrait! Didn’t know there was an option for it, I have mine from Luckyscent and they don’t sell an extrait.
Yes, so sad to report the extrait was a limited edition. I am now whipping myself with the old axiom “He who hesitates is lost” because I waffled back and forth so long it sold out. Although, I don’t know, maybe the PdE site still offers it? Hmmm…
Mmm, I love MT.
The only fig scent I have and love is Dambrosia, but I forgot to wear that today, instead I am wearing FM Une Rose and vintage Chanel No.5 voile parfumé, I am loving this combo a lot. Une Rose is taking over a little but it smells more powdery because of No.5.
Spectacular day in the DC area. Considering Aftelier Tango, SL Daim Blonde, AG Eau du Sud, or Hermes Cuir d’Ange. I guess I’m feeling a bit frantic to figure out how best to enjoy one of the DC area’s rare perfect days.
I almost liked Alaïa, but that part of it that evoked the Concorde for Luca Turin reminded me of the excruciating 19-hour flight from Johannesburg to Atlanta. Too bad, because I think it is unusual and well done.
Hi, Nozknoz. I really like the Alaia body milk thingy–I fi do it perfect with jeans and a Tee-shirt at weekends, but like you, I only almost like the perfume. On its own, it’s just a rather strong violet on me, quite linear and not exciting at all; if I wear it with the body lotion, I get the hot stones, etc, etc, but then the two together are too much.
Thanks for the tip, waterdragon! I’ll be on the lookout for the body lotion.
Since it’s Fig Week my SOTD is Parfumerie Generale Jardins de Kerylos
Since its National Fig Week and I am out of town for a conference, I am wearing Jo Malone Wild Fig and Cassis along with The Body Shop’s Summer Fig shower gel and body cream. Fig-a-licious! 🙂
Yum! Love that JM.
Don’t have any fig scents – don’t even think I’ve sampled any fig perfumes. However, I am wearing fruit!
SOTD = Burberry London. A comfort scent, especially when it’s cold and getting colder.
Correction – I haven’t sampled any fig perfume YET. Just bought the Perfume Court 11 Fig sampler pack with that flash sale code. Yay for figs!!!
On a heavenly day, my SOTD is Yin and Ylang because I’ve decided to attack my 100+ 1 ml samples, and Y&Y was the first one out of the box. Initially at least it feels perfect on this gorgeous fall day.
Oh crumbs. I meant to pick from samples too. Totally forgot!
Karen, how is your son doing?
In Encre Noire. Always surprises me how fabulous is this inexpensive and accessible scent!
I should make a push to try this. It gets serious love everywhere. What is its most appealing facet, Oakland?
Hmmmm… (Pour Homme, never tried the femme version). It goes on like oil, almost– a rich, nutty, vetiver. I think it is a sexy scent with hints of smoke in the fragrant wood. On me it is pretty linear, but I don’t mind as I enjoy the opening very much. I’ve seen it described as inky, which I think is because it seems/feels/smells somehow high in calories….on a man or a woman it punches way above its weight in vetiver elegance. On my skin, it is not very long lasting….which is too bad, but easily solved by reapplying.
Morning, all. I had no idea. None. I decided to stand in front of my cabinet, close my eyes and reach blindly. My hands touched Lyric, Fate and Mon Parfum Cheri. Naturally enough, given the careful, cerebral nature of my selection process, I’m actually wearing Black Cashmere. Truly, if Donna Karan had not developed this beauty, I would have had to do it myself!
Just got a decant of that – you smell maaaaahvelous darling!
It’s just gorgeous, yes? If you’re like me at all in you experience of BC, you’ll find new delights each time you wear it. I found it didn’t give up all its secrets straight away.
This is one I’m tempted to blind buy, based on all the love it gets. But I need to be disciplined and start with a sample or decant.
Is your DKBC in the black pebble or in the gorgeous new bottle? (I’m only familiar with the former)
The new cylindrical bottle. I really like it- spare & elegant, yet substantial.
🙂 I like this scientific selection method of yours!
I do have a fig perfume (CSP Coco Figue) but just not feeling “figgy” today. Instead, I have liberally doused myself in PdE Corsica Furiosa because it’s still wicked hot here, and this scent really perks me up, gives me the enrgy to brave the heat and humidity, and commence my duties. The dry down is so soft and lovely, I wish I had a bottle. But not a 100ml bottle. A 15-30ml would be perfection! I did a bunch of yardwork this morning and feel, in all honesty, that my “duties” are done for the day 😉
The “idea” of fall is so entrancing! I have two lucious types of squash to cook, but the “reality” is that its just too hot to turn on the oven. So now I am off to hunt down a cool refreshing salad for lunch. Maybe I could find a fig to put in it? Does that count?
Yep! maybe with some rocket and fetta and prosciutto and a drizzle of balsamic vinegar…
I’d buy a smaller bottle of CF too :-/
It was with chicken and quinoa and kale- tasty!
SOTD = Ann Gerard Rose Cut
The enabler’s pin goes to Lucas (Chemist in the Bottle) who now comments here occasionally and has his own blog. I first read about Rose Cut and its stunning color and bottle on his blog and the rest was history. On me, it’s a fizzy sweetish rose with patchouli. I realize the notes mention rum but I don’t smell it at all. I also don’t recall smelling vanilla in the dry down or at any time. It works great in the fall and spring.
I enjoy this one too, I just have a sample as of now.
Fig is only ok for me, so opting out on that one. I’m doing an “all time favorites” week this week (not planned but I see the pattern developing) and today it is Eau des Merveilles. If decreed by law that only one fragrance per person was allowed, I think this would be mine.
One fragrance allowed would be terrifying! That’s a whole new level of Orwellian hell I would revolt against!
But I do very much like your choice. That one is in my top ten faves.
I’m not a huge fig fan either. I don’t think it likes me much because it always smells funky on me.
I’m wearing Guerlain L’Instant. I’m probably wrong but L’Instant seems to belong to the slightly overlooked/unloved era of Guerlain perfume.
You must be right. I’m a big Guerlain fan, but I’ve never even tried L’Instant.
I think Dior went through a similar period…Addict?
L’Instant is so pretty!
I really like L’Instant! I bought a bottle of the edp about 10yrs ago- slightly pre-full-blown-perfumista, and the only reason I dont still wear it more is it has so much competition!
Do you think it smells like ninefo mil…or is it just me who thinks that
I am wearing the original Moschino Pour Homme. All of that gorgeous carnation. It’s such an exquisite fragrance and such a shame that they discontinued the best scent that they ever put out.
Hi Kanuka, I agree. I used to love L’Instant. I am never sure why I never purchased another bottle. Simply lovely.
It’s one of those perfumes that seems to belong to a certain time/place…like Obsession, or L’eau Issey (possibly) …. I think it has a lot in common, scent wise, with Ninfeo Mio. L’Instant is the more extrovert version.
I am commando until I return home from my work day. I left in such a rush that I forgot to spray. I never do that. I actually feel uncomfortable. Ugh.. It’s like being naked in public. ????
Hate it when that happens!
That’s why there is a little baggie of samples in my purse!
I’m normally so regimented that I haven’t bothered keeping samples at work. Now that I am home, I am testing DK Black Cashmere. Wow, I think it is seriously beautiful. However, it is very much a skin scent on me. Nose to wrist and I can’t smell much more than a faint dusky sweet soft spiciness. Yet, I can smell the most beautful albeit light scent wafting in the air. Can anyone tell me if I am anosmic? I only have a dabber sample and am tempted to douse myself. I want more.
Douse away! BC is only moderate sillage on me anyway, even sprayed.
Inspired by Petunia’s SOTD yesterday, I’m wear SL five o’clock au gingembre. A rare cozy fall perfume that also feels bright and sparkling on me.
I love that one! You smell great dottieCHI!
My first Lutens and everytime I wear it I fall in love again 🙂
I have very wary of most fruity notes, so no figgy perfumes. But having a Jo Malone week, which is fitting since I’m heading to London for the weekend. In Wood, Sea Salt and Sage today.
I am rather wary of most fruity notes, so no figgy perfumes. But seem to be having a Jo Malone week, which is rather fitting since I’m heading to London for the weekend. In Wood, Sea Salt and Sage today.
As you probably know, I enjoy that one, too. Have fun in London! And let me know if you find any new YA loves (or any other literary loves, for that matter).
Will do! 🙂
Had a craving for coromandel this morning, but couldn’t find my decant, so annoying! grabbed Marni instead. Now thats worn off, evening scent is Patchouli Antique, such a strange perfume that i wrinkled my nose up when i first sniffed it, but now i absolutely love it.. strange indeed.
Two tiny sprays of my Manoumalia decant to get me through house chores etc. It really is beautiful, if better in the sun. After the gym I might aim for something woody/benzoin-y/smoky… suggestions?
Songes?
And I adore Manoumalia, such an unusual floral.
I’m not wearing anything figgy because I don’t have any. I am wearing the fluffy, mossy gorgeousness of Chypre Mousse today. I was underwhelmed by the rest of the Oriza L. Legrand line, but this was instant love. Lasts a long time, too.
I’m in Bois des Isles EDT today and it feels just right.
And I have a dumb question–how much of a pure parfum or extrait does one typically wear? I’m thinking of getting samples of a couple Chanel parfums, but have no idea how many wearings I would get out of 1/4 ml!
Good question, not a dumb one! I have one that I’ve worn about once a week over a year. Probably 6 ‘dabs’ per wearing. It is a 7.5 ml bottle and only about a quarter gone. So that would be about 2 ml for at least 50 times. Ya, I think a 1/4 ml would give some decent testing.
Very helpful, thanks! I decided on 1/2 ml samples. I’m hopeful that I will get a lot of wear out of them!
First of all you must try the Bois des Isles Extrait. It is gorgeous. Jersey in the Extrait is also quite beautiful. I didn’t take to the EDT of this one but the Extrait is so much more.
I agree with Gi in that the 1/4 ml of Bois des Isles Extrait would be a very good start. I do 5 dabs and that’s all I need.
I am wearing No. 57 Arquiste for JCrew. I love the whiskey in it – so good for the cold months.
I’m wearing Diptyque Philosykos today, in honor of fig week.
Wasn’t quite feeling figgy this morning so went with Diptyque Volutes EDT.
Love! ????
I almost wore Alaia today, but I decided to give it a rest. Today I’m wearing Neela Vermiere Pichola.
I love all four of the original NV from the discovery set, but I haven’t tried Pichola. Normally I’m not a fan of white florals, but I’m sure that whatever she and BD put together is a beauty.
I’m wearing Wit today due to a smoke-induced headache/queasiness that makes every other scent unbearable. It’s super humid, damp, and still and someone is burning brush someplace in our valley 🙁
My cousins are in the kitchen baking a lemon pudding cake for a birthday (all three visiting cousins have birthdays this week) and I really want a perfume that smells like the kitchen does right now. Maybe if I layered Bois Farine and Lemon Cloud?
Turns out the cousins like sniffing stuff too so I unloaded a bunch of duplicate samples on them and will cull my collection when I get home and ship the unloved stuff to them. Makes me happy, even if one of them needs her perfume to smell “fresh”. Perhaps we can broaden her horizons.
Educator/philanthropist…..it suits you, MM.
Thank you! 🙂
When I think lemon pudding cake, I think Shalimar ode a la vanille sur la route du mexique. Maybe it’s just me.
I really think I need to try that one. Vanilla is a borderline note for me and anything Shalimar intimidates me a bit, but I’ve been toying with sampling some of the flankers and you’ve tempted me into actually putting them on my list. Good job!
This one is definitely less intimidating than Shalimar straight up. The vanilla on me is subtle until the far dry down. Mostly I get a sweet, creamy lemon pastry over a toned down Shalimar base. At first I wasn’t that impressed, but I keep going back to it, so it may be my next full bottle purchase.
CJ Scents has Lemonilla. It is very reasonably priced and sort of reminds me of a lemon shortbread cookie. It does not smell like lemon Pledge. It’s a fun scent and is nice for spring and summer.
It’s 5:20 pm, and I’m still commando. Had a perm today, remarkably stink and frizz free, but I’m not inclined to perfume yet. Considering Nassomato Absinthe.
Mals, are you there? Not to pry, but how did your husband make out in the election?
Hi Siciliana!
I believe Mals said the election went 60/40 in favor of her husband…
I just wanted to let you know that thanks to your insightful comment a week or so ago, my husband and I have been correcting each other’s vocabulary, sentence structure, or whatever comes to hand with, “Clearly there were not enough nuns involved in your education!” On a related note, my legal education was at the feet of Jesuits who were a little wobbly on enforcing good grammar, but quite excellent in enforcing good legal ethics and a commitment to public interest.
<3 those Jesuits 🙂
Thanks for asking! Yes, he won his election by that percentage. He’s pleased. (I’m just glad it’s over.)
My education was nun-free. I’m starting to feel deprived. 🙂
No nuns for me either even though I went to a Roman Catholic school! My siblings and I were the only non-Catholics in the school.
Congrats, I know you were doing a lot of campaign work! Are you glad it’s done, or is it really just beginning now that you’re a political couple!? 🙂
And no nuns here either, to my grandparents’ great dismay. Actually this makes me wonder how I escaped, since both my parents and all their siblings were sent that route… I’ll have to ask my parents how they decided against it for us.
Late joiner today. Finished a week of appetite killing, nausea inducing antibiotics. I also couldn’t deal with much scent but feeling much better today. Went with L’Ambre de Merveilles which I got from a swap (thanks Farouche 🙂 ) I really love this one in all its salty, ambergris-y goodness.
Glad you’re feeling better Elisa.
