Balenciaga has launched Balenciaga Paris L'Édition Mer, a new variation on 2010's Balenciaga Paris. L'Édition Mer follows Balenciaga Paris L'Essence and Balenciaga Paris L'Eau Rose.
A new interpretation of the iconic Balenciaga Paris bottle, l'Édition Mer was inspired by the shimmering and reflective nature of water and mother of pearl.
The glass bottle reflects different shades of teal with an iridescent sheen, topped with a chrome collar and round translucent cap.
The fragrance features green shiso leaf living, grown with hydroponic technology that allows the plant to bloom in a purely aquatic environment. The clearer, brighter result transports you underwater through the luminous and aqueous touch of l'Édition Mer.
Inspired by the ocean's deepest hidden gems, l'Édition Mer opens with crisp notes of sparkling yuzu and hydroponic shiso leaf living. Feminine, wet floral muguet blends with dry woods leaving the skin with a fresh, luxurious scent.
Additional notes include seashell accord.
Balenciaga Paris L'Édition Mer is available now at Neiman Marcus, 75 ml for $145.

Hmmm, I don’t know about anyone else but I’m disappointed in the bottle. The color itself is absolutely lovely, but why cheap out on the cap? The original cap was beautiful and this is just boring. Maybe a pearl? And “seashell accord”? LOL, I’m sorry but when I hear that the only thing I can think of is the slightly rank smell of rotting marine life you sometimes get in a shell. Otherwise who are they kidding, a shell doesn’t have a smell. Seashell accord, jeez, they think people will fall for any babbling copy write.
Good point — didn’t notice the cap.
I have to say that the seashell accord is the only part of this I’m actually interested in–mostly to see what on earth that’s supposed to mean. Like you, I’m imagining rot. When I was a kid, I brought home some seashells that I didn’t realize still had the little guys (and probably some other weird stuff) in them (oops). A few days later, that smelled heinous.
My guess is that it will not be much different from what they often call “warm sand” in perfume. But who knows.
Ooof, I did the same thing with some periwinkle shells. Awful!
I really enjoy the original Balenciaga Paris (was my SOTD yesterday) but this sounds kind of vague and boring.
It sounds like they mostly created a new bottle first, and try it find a scent that would match it…
And I agree, “seashell accord” brings to mind unfortunate holiday childhood experiments!
There is a material called choya nakh that is an extraction from roasted seashells (Mandy Aftel used it in Tango), but somehow I doubt this is anything that interesting. And I also seriously doubt there is any hydroponic shiso involved.
I like the name and the bottle.
I must try this! I MUST!!
