Atelier Cologne Sous le toit de Paris

Happy Tuesday, and Happy Hanukkah to everyone who will start celebrating tonight. What fragrance are you wearing today?

I'm wearing Atelier Cologne Sous le toit de Paris.

Reminder: this Friday, 12/19, is De-stress Friday...as we approach the holidays, wear something that keeps you tranquil and relaxed.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2014, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

In desperate need of some lavender I put on some of my sample of A Taste of Heaven. It’s gorgeous, but you have to like lavender, and I do.

I do like lavender…didn’t used to, but I do now. Still, admit I have never been in desperate need! Which is fine, I have enough notes I am desperate about ๐Ÿ˜‰

It’s pretty soft — I have a mini but I want to dump into a spray atomizer so I can see how it feels that way.

It is lovely from an atomizer! I started with a dabber sample and ended up getting a small decant. It’s really nice. I was disappointed in this one at first because I expected, as Robin said, “more oomph,” but I found myself reaching for it all of the time, and have found it to be a perfect, creamy floral for winter.

SOTD is Uomo (Carthusia). Got some samples last week and I am really enjoying them. This smells similar to something else I already have, but I can’t remember what that is…
Bought a bottle of Corallium, and while I am enjoying it in the cooler weather, will want to see how it behaves in warmer weather.
    Happy Holidays!

For me, nothing! Finished the sample quite decided and would not go for a FB.

Womanity Eau Pour Elles works much better actually, the strawberry note is nice. I am not a fan of fruity fragrances and it’s only an EDT but on me it has none of the disadvantages of the main EDP. Give it a try.

Soivohle Calcutta from an old sample. This is just about perfect on me– too bad it’s not in the current lineup. It’s dense and spicy and there’s something exotic in there– pandanus maybe?

It’s a leaf with definite floral tones–I used to get pandanus wrapped chicken bites at a Malaysian restaurant in Boston which is why I was thinking pandanus. Not sure it is even available as an essential oil but I know some of her scents have mentioned that she has done her own macerations

I’ve seen it as an absolute online (Liberty Natural sells it as an absolute and an attar, listed as Kewra).. it tends to be a pricey one, so I’ve never actually bought any.

I completely missed Dior Friday, so I might make up for it by wearing Eau Noire today. I’m not usually a fan of lavender on my skin, but the licorice, coffee and vanilla mixed in with it make it weirdly delicious.

It starts out very herbal, then runs headlong into a strange mix of the medicinal and the gourmand. The coffee, licorice and vanilla make it seems almost caramel-like, which is the part that really works for me. Hope you like it!

Hello, all, and Happy Hanukkah for tonight! ๐Ÿ™‚

I am debating on a SOTD because I have a first date tonight that I’m pretty excited for, and will happily take input! Serge Lutens Un Bois Vanille? Or Coromandel? I’m back and forth on whether Coromandel is too much when I don’t know if someone likes perfume or not. I feel like I’m still working my way up to professional perfume-wearing confidence levels sometimes ๐Ÿ™‚

I do like both for their respective coziness factors. And the fact that both are very unlikely to have any scent memories of exes for him – all hail niche and exclusifs lines! ;D

Gosh, who knew perfume would become more of a concern than my outfits one day, but here I am ๐Ÿ™‚

I haven’t tried Un Bois Vanille, but I love Coromandel and would be brazen and go for it. Or maybe put Coromandel on early so the lush dry down is going on for the date. But if UBV is lighter and still makes you feel wonderful, then by all means go with that ๐Ÿ™‚ Either way, I’m sure you’ll smell wonderful.

      Good luck on your date!

It doesn’t matter for a first date whether they like perfume– wear whatever _you_ will feel better in. After all, if the perfume makes you feel great then that confidence will project and you’ll hopefully come across as wonderful

Plus, if he gets a whiff and makes a stink about it, that might be a good way to determine if he’s second date material.
If he loves it or is polite about it not being for him, that could be a good sign ๐Ÿ™‚

Someone might like perfume, but not like all of them. You might want to under-apply whatever you wear so that you are the center of attention and not your perfume.

Anyway, I hope that you have fun!

Wear the one that you like the most. And do not listen to “under-applying” suggestions: apply it exactly how you would to the same type of a meeting but with your girl friend. I don’t think it’s worth starting a relationship where you have to think of him first. If the “wrong” perfume makes him not like you, why would you care for what he thinks in general? Do not start compromising before you even have relationships to compromise for.

Today I’m wearing Rose Anonyme, and I’m debating which of the two sets of minis to buy from Sephora. The small two mini set for $18.00 includes Orange Sanguine, which everyone raves about. It also contains Vanille Insensee, and I’m not fond of vanilla. The other one costs more per mini at $50.00 for five but it also has Cรฉdrat Enivrant and Vetiver Fatal. Of course it also has Rose Anonyme, and I already have a mini of that. Any recommendations?

I do love Vetiver Fatale! Have you smelled them all, or is this more of a blind buy situation?
TOTALLY not helping here, but have you considered the Discovery Set from Atelier Cologne’s website? $25 US including shipping, 2ml each of all 17 scents. Someone on here (sorry, can’t remember who!) pointed me towards it and it was AMAZING for the price.

I started with the Orange/Vanille mini duo, went to a set of 7 travel sprays, then the discovery set, then finally bought a 100ml of Vetiver Fatale even though I haven’t finished picking through the samples. Love this line ๐Ÿ™‚

This is a blind buy situation, and your suggestion of the Discovery Set is great. I didn’t even think about it, but it certainly will give me a chance to try so that I can purchase larger bottles later. I do tend to gravitate toward minis, rather than sample sizes, but having all the scents for that price is a more cost effective way to try them. Thanks!

Vanille Insensee is not a creamy custardy vanilla. It is sharper and more like the smell of actually scraping the inside of a fresh (not dried out vanilla bean). So you may like it even if you do not like other vanillas. I know I do.

I’m not a huge vanilla fan, but I do really like Vanille Insensee. It’s so comforting and not cloyingly sweet.

Cedrat and Veitiver are both wonderful though and may be easier to wear than VI if you’re not keen on vanilla.

I had bought a FB of Vanille Insensee but it gave me headaches so I gave it away. It’s an unusual vanille and when I was in the Atelier shop he sold it as a “non-vanille, vanille”
It’s definitely vanille, but the additional notes give it an interesting twist.

I got some L’Artisan candles (Traversee du Bosphore, The et Pain D’espices, and Rose des Indes) that I am very excited about. But I hadn’t sampled any of the perfumes that were available, and they apparently weren’t on my blind buy list so I didn’t buy any. I say apparently because I didn’t realize that I actually have a blind buy list in my head until yesterday …

So what is on your blind buy list?

It has to be (1) something that I can’t sample easily – i.e., not at the a Sephora or smaller Nordstroms in town, and (2) a good (reduced) price. If I can only get it at full price, then I buy a sample first. Of course, what constitutes a good price depends on the original price, my mood, what particular note I am into at the time, etc. It’s very changable ๐Ÿ˜‰

My list is: from Serge Lutens: Un Bois Vanille, Feminite du Bois, Fluers d’Oranger, Chergui, and Clair de Musc. From L’Artisan: Safran Troublant, Patchouli Patch, Premier Figuier, Passage d’Enfer. From ELDO: Rien, Delicious Closet Queen, Noel au Balcon, Vrai Blonde, and Fils de Dieu.

Based on comments here and other reviews: Jean Charles Brousseau The Brun, Masque Milano Russian Tea, Dior Cuir Cannage, Parfums d’Empire Cuir Ottoman and Ambre Russe …

I generally stay away from notes that can be difficult for me (ylang ylang, ginger, mint, licorice, lily). I like jasmine, tuberose, and gardenia but I am picky about them so I am more hesitant to blind buy. I almost always like leather, amber, rose, iris, bergamont, galbanum, spice, and incense.

As you can see, I have a bad case of The Wants!

Last night’s rain has given way to chilly, windy sunshine. I have one kid home sick with a stomach bug (I’m praying I won’t get it, but I bet I will!), one with a high school band concert this evening, and the oldest on a train now, making her way home from college for winter break.

The community chorus’ Messiah performance went well, the dog is responding well to the Invisible Fence, and The CEO is going to go get our tree later.

    SOTD is Memoir Woman. Mmmm.

True, not airborne… but since I’m the one cleaning up the bathroom after it’s been, ahem, used… I fear I’m doomed. When I called him in sick at the middle school today, the secretary told me it’s cutting a wide swath through students and teachers alike.

NO SICK. I don’t want to be sick! I’m being hypervigilant on people washing their hands in this house!

Today i wore Mito Voile d’extrait from the bottle i just bought, and im so deliriously happy with it! I dont often ‘do’ galbanum, but the fiercely green opening is totally forgiven as it heralds the arrival of the beeyoootiful tuberose, and a peachiness that reminds me of the nectarine in Yvresse. Worth every cent.

Just in bed now (at 2am) after a long shift and have anointed myself with Vanille Tonka (another chrissy present for moi) for sweet dreams ๐Ÿ™‚

I haven’t worn anything today, as I was in a rush in the morning and completely forgot about perfume, but sprayed on Anne Pliska a couple of minutes ago.
Also, I really like your choice of juice today – Sous le Toit – I was thinking about a full bottle of this, though the price is a bit over the top…it’s a pity they don’t offer the small bottle of this one

I agree! Coromandel should come in smaller bottles! Some of Chanel’s Exclusiffs require bathing in them but Coromandel is so potent that I can’t imagine going through the 75 (?) ml bottle of it. That’s why I use it from a decant I bought in a split.

Wearing a little dab from the Tauer Rose Chypree sample that came with my PHI shipment and it’s billowing out into a real old school powder bomb on me. Strange thing is that the sillage has wisps of that TDC Rose Poivree pepper vinegar goodness. It’s a little too Gloria Swanson meets big Hollywood golden era powderpuff in the face for me today. Will wash it off before the afternoon client.

I REALLY want to try Sous le toit de Paris – I’m hoping the Atelier sample set finds its way under my Christmas tree this year. ๐Ÿ™‚ It’s 2:43 and I’m just not applying some perfume – today I’m trying Olympic Orchids Love. I really loved the warm opening – but now I’m getting anise/black licorice and that’s not pleasant for me… hopefully it’ll pass…

Drained my sample of RM’s “Very Private” for Bergdorf Goodman. I must be anosmic to several of the ingredients, because I slathered my arm in the juice and still only get wisps of fragrance—mostly ozonic lilac, and something like wet pavement. Not unpleasant, but totally unmemorable.
