It's Friday, and time for our weekly community project. Today's theme: wear something from Christian Dior. What did you pick?
As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you aren’t participating in the community project.
I'm wearing Miss Dior, aka Miss Dior Classic, in vintage Eau de Cologne. It is old and rather concentrated now, but still smells wonderful. I wish Dior would bring back the lovely houndstooth bottles!
Reminder: next Friday, 12/19, is De-stress Friday...as we approach the holidays, wear something that keeps you tranquil and relaxed.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2014, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
I am wearing Jules, which is very nice, but probably a bit too much for office wear past 1985.
But you DO smell great! I like Jules.
I was going to wear Dune but I took my sample for a test drive yesterday (it’s the commercial spray sample of the esprit de parfum, I guess about 3 mL, probably from 1991) and there is nothing left of it but a standard boring vanilla amber — the top and middle notes are literally gone, all of them. A crying shame.
But that knife cuts both ways. I’m wearing a tiny, tiny spritz of Poison, which I bought in I think 2006, in that dagger-shaped amulet bottle they did briefly. I was hugely disappointed at the time because I discovered too late that it had been ruinously reformulated to add fresh top notes it didn’t need: I didn’t know anything about reformulation at the time, so I assumed it had somehow gone off until I did some research and discovered that this is what Poison has become. When I put it on this morning just so I would be wearing something Dior, I braced myself for the awful top notes but discovered that they have almost vanished! It’s not quite the Poison of 1985, but it’s pretty close, and really good, warm and mysterious (as long as you wear the smallest amount possible, because Poison is still a typhoon in a bottle).
Enjoy the typhoon. 🙂
Oh what a nice turn of events for your Poison bottle!!
Oh how lovely! I wish all the fresh notes in all of my fragrances would evaporate. And loved those bottles…
Prompted by a post earlier this week, wearing vintage Diorama. Really enjoy this one–reread Luca Turin’s description as “a sunny orange peel version of Mitsouko”, except it doesn’t remind ME of Mitsouko. Should wear this one more often–it’s rather seasonless.
I liked vintage Miss Dior the 1st time I tried it, not so much subsequently. The staying power of the older edcs & edts is remarkable.
Yum…love Diorama. Doesn’t remind me of Mitsouko either.
I am wearing Miss Dior, the new one and loving it I also have the shower gel and it is heavenly.
Nice!
I am wearing Miss Dior Cherie from 2005 (vintage- sounds so funny in this case). It smells very different from today “Miss Dior”. have you ever tried the”vintage” one?
Wearing Dior Homme Intense (2007 version)
Other than Dior Homme- in the various versions/flankers- and Eau Sauvage- various versions too- I don’t have much affinity for Dior fragrances.
Now if I could only get my hands on the DH parfum…
I’d like to try that parfum too…
Is there actually a Parfum extrait? The edp bottle I got a sample from at Sephora said Parfum.
I’m wearing Dune today, which is the only Dior I own. There seem to be others in the same boat, based on some of yesterday’s comments.
I’m sure you’re not alone! Great scent in any case.
Me too! It is the one and only Dior that has ever caught my interest. I love Dune but have hardly even smelled any other Dior’s. Funny how that is.
My sister wore Dune back in the day, and forbade me to wear it too, which is why I don’t own any. Nice scent, though… I find it very comforting.
Vintage Poison (a mini that I bought around 1988 or so) today. I was so excited about wearing it that I actually wore it to sleep last night! My primary partner hates it, but he’s out of town, so I applied LIBERALLY from my tiny splash bottle–neck, wrists, elbows and chest. It was awesome, if overwhelming.
Today I’m wearing much less of it (smaller dabs on elbows and chest only) and it is still really rather strong. I’m hoping it dissipates a bit before I have to go into a meeting at 12:30.
Why am I scared to wear this much Angel, but overjoyed to wear this much Poison?
Because Angel is all about fun and Poison is all about the dangers of seduction? You can have too much fun but you can’t have too much sultriness.
If you’re alone and want to really drench yourself in a scent, I can hardly think of a better one than Poison.
Yeah, the Poison=seduction thing is spot-on.
My theory? Patchouli.
Good theory, and I could believe that. Given that Poison contains almost everything but the kitchen sink, I think patchouli is the only note NOT in there.
Robin, you’re wearing my very favorite today! I wore this even as a young girl years ago and still love the vintage today. And yes to the classic houndstooth bottle!
My only other Dior favorite, I chose Dune today, the perfect dreamy scent companion to a melancholy, inward-looking Friday.
I had the Diorissimo houndstooth, many times over. Love these bottles, and they were such good branding — they looked “Dior” at 20 paces.
I have absolutely nothing Dior, so I chose something wintery instead. I’m wearing SSS Winter Woods and was in immediate love when I first sampled it. The combination of the sweetness and the wood is so perfect, and my skin amps up some raunch (so much so that last night, I wasn’t sure if I was smelling my perfume, or something else). Good thing it’s casual Friday.
I love the bit of raunch in Winter Woods.
Dying laughing; also, making a mental note to be careful about any social obligations I might have when I test my Winter Woods sample!
I don’t think you have to be *too* careful. I haven’t seen any reviews that mention much raunch, so I think it might just be an idiosyncrasy of my skin and my nose. On the plus side, if it’s just me, I get to feel very sneaky today.
I’m in Eau de Dolce Vita. I bought it by mistake in the late ‘90s, thinking it was Dolce Vita, which I had sampled and loved. Eau de Dolce Vita is a very fresh floral. I get a lot of freesia from it and the whole effect reads like a precursor to J’Adore, which is never really warmed up to, but makes more “house” sense when put next to Eau de Dolce Vita.
Even though it was a “mistake” it’s marked some of the best times in my life. I liked it well enough and wore it to prom (I had so much fun at prom. High school was miserable, but my memories of prom always make me smile), a couple years later, in college, it remained my only “elegant” non-Victoria Secret fragrance, so I wore it on a wonderful first date. Then, five years later, almost to the day, I wore it at my wedding to the same man. I haven’t brought it out much since, but today it fits perfectly since it’s “Dior Day” here _and_ my wonderful husband will be officially receiving tenure today. I’m so proud of him.
Congratulations to your husband!
How wonderful for your husband!
Awww! What a nice story!
And I totally forgot that I have two tiny 5ml bottles of Dolce Vita parfum. It’s not 0 degrees outside today, though, so I think I’ll save the DV for another frigid day. Man, that stuff is rich.
Yay! Great story, and many congrats to your husband.
How lovely! And congratulations to him!
Oh that’s very sweet! And congratulations to your husband–tenure, that is really an accomplishment!
Congrats to you and your hubby! And it is always nice to have a sentimental perfume that’s been there for the fun/important moments in your life, isn’t it? One sniff can bring back so many memories…
Those are great stories, and congratulations to your husband.
I’m wearing Une Rose Chyprée today, but I wore Poison twice this week, does that count?
Of course 🙂
I chose Eau Sauvage, again. That initial spritz is so invigorating!
That might be me de-stress perfume next week too….
I almost wore Eau Sauvage because yes, that opening is just an explosion of joy. It elevates what could have been an ordinary citrus cologne to something magical.
My very fussy 12-year-old son has loved and been wearing Eau Sauvage since he was 10 (only for special occasions) and it suits him so well. He seems so pensive and quiet but has this inner wild streak… ES is so perfect for him and I love how he stands a little taller and does the little spritzing ritual with such seriousness. 😉
This makes me really happy.
Makes me happy me happy too. Gotta love a young guy who’s not a gen Axer.
That’s so charming!
Me too, although I”m sure the Eau Sauvage is heavier on the lemon and generally lighter than it used to be. Eau Sauvage was my first adult fragrance love and is the only one to survive the years still as loved. When I was 17 I worked nights in the kitchen of a very expensive French restaurant patronised by businessmen who brought either clients or mistresses there and big-noted themselves by tipping lavishly. The kitchen, like most, was a very louche place indeed and a sheltered girl of 17 could learn a lot by keeping her mouth closed and here eyes open. The head waiter, who seemed to me to be the height of world-weary cynical sophistication, would arm himself against the despised clients by dousing himself in a protective layer Eau Sauvage throughout the night. I adored it and thought myself very much of the demi-monde when I bought myself a man’s fragrance.
I love this story.
It was a real education for me but not what my parents had in mind!
The only Dior I have is Miss Dior (the old one, but not vintage) and it was just wrong for me today. So, I am wearing Arquiste for JCrew #57. I’m really liking it – it’s like boozy sandalwood on me.
I tried #57 recently and liked it. If a smaller bottle had been a spray bottle I would have bought it immediately. But I’m not sure I want to have a rollerball perfume that I use 2-3 times per year…
SOTM was Diorissimo. I say was because although it was amazing for a few minutes, it was pretty much completely gone within an hour… Maybe because of the weather or the fact that is was dabbed on. It’s a miniature I got as a kid actually somewhere in the late 90s… Does that count as vintage?
SOTE is a sample of Cuir Cannage.
That’s Dioressimo in a nutshell: pretty but fleeting…
I am wearing Hypnotic Poison, my favorite (and only, except for a mini of Dune) Dior. Perfect for this cold weather, although maybe a bit much for the office.
Me too! It really does hit the spot when the weather is cold and gray.
Agreed! I was enjoying Hypnotic Poison as well today. I went with a light spray for the office. But it’s so nice and cozy.
Rummaging through my samples, I found that I had some Milly-La-Foret. It is pretty with a sort of poofy feel. I like it even though it’s not my usual thing
I liked it too, although it was gone in less than an hour.
I have scent glue skin and it’s still there 12+ hours later
The only Dior I have is Eau Savage which is packed someplace and out of reach. It would be so perfect on this warm muggy day. Having only about 20 samples to choose from, I’m wearing Soivohle Amun Re The Tears of Ra. It’s a foody spice scent to me today for some reason, perhaps breakfast is in order.
SOTD is J’adore Voile de Parfum. I have a decant which I’ve been enjoying so much lately. I think it may be a buy for me in the near future.
Yay to J’adore! 🙂
It always baffles me because it’s actually not written on the bottle! Is Voile de Parfum an EdT or EdP?
According to Fragrantica J’Adore Voile de Parfum is a J’Adore flanker in EDT strength. It’s more powdery and musky than the original.
I just have a sample/decant from Sephora, and it doesn’t say if its edp or edt. The original J’Adore makes my throat feel scratchy, but this one is so easy to wear.
SOTD is Tendre Poison. A fierce green/white floral.
Glad to see other Poisons in the comments.:)
J’adore L’absolu.
Some lush bouquet to combat the cold wind!
(I can never figure this out: Is J’adore Voile de Parfum an EdT or EdP..?)
Joining those who are wearing Dune.
I had completely forgotten that I had more Diors on hand than the few I mentioned yesterday. Besides the 2006 tester of Diorissimo, the decants of Cuir Cannage and (nonvintage) Diorling and the small bottle of ca.-2000 Poison, I also have a decant of J’Adore l’Absolu and samples of vintage Miss Dior parfum – and two parfum minis of Dolce Vita. Spoiled for choice today. Also have a sample of New Look 1947 somewhere.
I went with Poison – which I used to absolutely hate, but I suspect now that my dismay was caused by the enormous clouds of it that people used to walk around in.
I used to hate it for the same reason. And because i never ‘got’ tuberose until a couple of years ago. Somehow mum ended up with a big bottle of vintage Poison esprit de parfum (mysteriously appeared!), and as she is anosmic due to sinus problems, my subtle hints worked and its now mine 🙂 i adore it! But am still scared to wear it out as those bad memories still exist out there… Lol
The Esprit is actually, I think, softer than the EdT. Less ALL UP IN YOUR FACE.
Nobody ever mentions it, but Poison’s got a half-ton of orange blossom in there along with the ton of tuberose (and the ton of plum)… you know, though, it seems to be missing the almost threatening dark thread that used to run through the original stuff. Now it’s just loud, instead of loud and carrying a poisoned hatpin.
Perthgirl, wear it outside anyway. I think that so few people wear it now, the clouds will be less intense.
Hard to avoid those enormous clouds–even one extra drop could result in fragrance overload.
Wearing Dior Homme layered with just a bit of vetiver essential oil to butch it up. I find it a bit sweet . I am a fan of the original Poison so happy to see I am not the only one! I like and wear Farenheit as well. I may be dangerously trapped in time. Most of the frags I deem necessary for happiness are from the 1970s and 1980s.
Nothing wrong with that! I bought a bottle of Fahrenheit for my boyfriend in high school. It smells good!
Dior Homme is so lovely. If I had thought about the sotd today I probably would’ve gone with that.
I also wore Homme EDT today. Often I find it too sweet but today is grey and rainy and it was perfect. I think I’m going to get some vetiver EO to try layer it also – great idea!
I’m wearing Miss Dior Cherie, the original 2005 version. I didn’t like it at the time, but at some point in the past 10 years I developed a fondness for it. Go figure.
I have a bottle of Miss Dior Le Parfum, which is the extrait version of Cherie – but not the 2005 formula…. I think…. ugh, there have been so many reformulations and changes I still get a bit confused trying to figure it out.
So does the 2005 have the “strawberries” note in it? The LP I haven’t doesn’t.
It is so interesting how things can feel different when displaced by time–I am wearing a pair of old boots this winter that have followed a similar trajectory! Thank you Miranda Priestlys of the world for having made sturdy work boots cool somehow??
Wearing my worn-out hiking boots gives me a boost of confidence. I could see how work boots could do the same thing.
I’m going to apply a teensy dab of vintage Diorama, from the little set that I found at an estate sale. (My best find ever!) I have a bad cold, so I hope I’ll be able to appreciate it fully!
*Such* an amazing find. I have to go to estate sales! I’ve never been to one, but that should change.
I go to very few, mainly because I’m not good at getting up so early on weekends… but this find was a very nice surprise!!
Is there a website or something you peruse to find good estate sales, or…?
I use Estatesales.net to check them out before I go. It works well in my area, don’t know about elsewhere. Lots of times I find one that isn’t listed as I’m driving around. My area tends to have very few perfume finds but lots of other fun stuff to look at.
Thanks so much Mikasminion!
You should definitely try them. You can look on Craigslist for ones close to your area as well (they are listed in with “garage sales”).
I was in such a frenzied state this morning that I left the house….*gasp*…scentless. And I feel like part of me is missing. I may have to go across the street to Macy’s Herald Square to remedy this….I just don’t feel right.
At least you are conveniently located to go get a spritz of something since you’ve got both Macy’s and a Sephora handy (plus a Perfumania in Penn Station). I always have about a dozen samples in my purse at all times in case of a perfume emergency.
Hah, me too. A tiny sample bag in my purse at all times!
So glad that I’m not the only one who is prepared like that
*waves from downtown*
I think it might be time for a get-together! Maybe over Xmas break so we can see the great windows at Bergdorf’s before sniffing?
Sigh! Maybe i should be saving for a trip to NYC to join you all 🙂 i mean, everyone should visit at least once in a lifetime!! 🙂
I’d be more than happy to meet up with you whenever you come visit
Come play!
Goddessrena, definitely another sniffing party! January?
Waves back!!!! We NYC-area people ought to have a meet-and-greet sometime after the holidays. I’d actually love to find loving homes for all the perfumes I have sitting in closets all over the house and that I’ll never wear. Early spring cleaning!
I’m beginning to have some of those too – let’s play soon!
Ooh a local in person perfume swap– what a great idea. Count me in. My screen name is my yahoo address when you have more details
Do pass along your contact info Sayitaintso! It’d be lovely to meet up.
Good thing you’ve got places to run to quickly for a spritz. I would feel naked without scent now.
I was so tired this morning that I forgot to put on my rings (one of them being my engagement ring) but I remember to put on scent…. not sure I want to know what that says about me :p
Vintage Diorling from one of those tiny gold-capped purse flacons. Cashmere, suede and oak moss conjure a supple armor for dreary December. Am I imagining it, or is there a hint of the seductive ripe fruit note that makes Diorella and FM Le Parfum de Therese so seductive? (I question my nose, because Diorling is by Paul Vacher rather than Edmond Roudnitska.)
Going out for a run in a second here so I’ve been waiting to put my Dior on for the day, but I’m going for vintage Diorling as well. A sample was gifted to me as a newbie in a whole array of precious gems from a perfumista who insisted I needed a good set of references! Perfume people. My goodness.
That was a true perfume friend – such fine people in the perfume community!
Perfume people are remarkably generous.
The only two Diors I own bottles of are Dune and Dior Homme. I really like both, so I based my decision on which one I’ve worn less recently. So I’m wearing Dune today.
Completely forgot about today’s SOTD and half awake today. So glad it’s Friday.
I needed something really comforting and “warm” so I put on some Lyric.
If I had any Dior, I would wear it (especially if it was in a houndstooth bottle), but sadly I do not.
Continuing with winter ennui over here, and inevitably I have turned to perfume for comfort. For a few weeks I was rocking the woods – Tam Dao and Nirvana Black (some of which remains on a blazer I’m wearing) – but now I’m in a bit of a rose phrase, which surprises me. My sample of La Fille de Berlin is being drained quickly and I’m wearing Ta’if on my wrists now.
Also, recently got a mini of Natori….ooooooh do I like this. Plummy goodness.
Hope that you’re all well!
Ta’if is an awesome remedy for dreary snowy weather. Most definitely.
Caught a glimpse of the news the other day, of the Royal visit to New York, and it made me cold just watching everyone rugged up in hats and scarves and coats… i hate the cold so i dont envy you- stay cozy over there!
I had an acupuncture appt this morning so a light spritz of Granville, which is probably my favourite cologne. For the rest of this windy, slightly cool day i wore Eau Noire, and really enjoyed it. It reminds me of the taste of the Malaysian bottled Chrysanthymum tea.
No Dior in this city unfortunately, as id like more than decants of these, and New Look 1947..
Vintage Miss Dior eau de toilette here. I was going to wear my vintage Dioressence extrait, but I’ve packed all the vintage perfumes away in a dark cool place like a good girl, and now I can’t find anything. This will be my weekend project now!
This Dior challenge is really a challenge for me. I don’t own a single Dior fragrance! I do have a LD of Dune, which I also wore for many years in the early 90s, but it also reminds me of a very painful romantic relationship so I don’t enjoy wearing it.
I had to seek out my baggie of Dior sample vials I got from Perfumed Court in about 2008. Thankfully I am wearing some Dioressence which just slightly beat out the mini sampling I did with Diorella this morning. I get the association Turin makes to kind of like Chamade. She kind of wrestled with me when Dioressence realized she’d be sharing space on my body with my most crud-proof winter togs, but then she settled down. I think she’s handling her demotion to snow riddled spaztic librarian today.
The only Dior I own is Diorella, and I just wasn’t feeling it this morning, so it’s SSS Champagne de Bois today.
Used up the last of my sample of hypnotic poison for today and now I want more! It went a little playdoh on me at first but it’s settled down as the day moves on. Now it’s just lovely and comforting on a dreary stressful day.
Interesting. I’ve gotten Play-Doh from other perfumes, but HP is pure root beer to me.
Like many others, apparently, the only Dior I own is Dune. I usually wear it in hot weather and it’s raining like crazy here. Sure enough, it doesn’t smell as good as it does in the summer (but still pretty good!).
I am in vintage Diorella, but the evening is going to be addict. I’m probably its only fan on these fields:).
Happy Friday!
It’s Dior Homme for me today, the 2007 vintage 😉 I smell great!
The only Dior I have is a small decant of Escale a Pondichery. I love to drink tea (and having some right now), but I am finally realizing that I don’t like tea scents. And today we are finally having some cold and rainy weather here in San Diego, so it’s a rare opportunity to wear something more wintry. Deciding between Guerlain Bois d’Armenie or M.Micallef Note Vanillee. Waiting for my husband (migraines) to leave the house so I can spritz. Anyone have a vote either way? I know I’ve tried them both but don’t recall much.
I went with the Micalleft. Woo, that is rich and boozy! This will keep me warm today.
Miss Dior Le Parfum for me today. A boozy jasmine rose that lasts forever. Very pretty and seems well made. Worth a sniff.
When I was thirteen or fourteen I had a houndstooth bottle of some Dior, I can’t remember which one, but I remember not liking it, so I think it probably had a lot of galbanum or oakmoss in it. It took a long time for me to make peace with those notes.
Today is my only Dior, Dune. Like Thalia, it’s a hot-weather scent for me and smells a little off in the cold.
I loved those houndstooth bottles. Wish they’d bring them back.
It’s so interesting to me how some of my favorite scents are perceived so differently by others. I am very much a ‘season’ type wearer of scent – Dune is balsamic/spicy/amber to me, and I only wear it in cool-cold weather on a moody day, I prefer it in fall or early spring. Methinks it would be too much on a hot summer day, but then I’m not fond of spices or incense in summer as some of you are, I would find them choking.
Diorless for me. And no, that’s not a lesser known Dior of old. I am Diorless.
“Diorless” sounds like the unrelated perfume that they are now calling Miss Dior, LOL.
When I first started to seriously admire vintage, an awesome swapper sent me a tiny vial of Dior-Dior, which then leaked in transit! I wrapped what was left up tightly, and today I am finally wearing the remaining little drops. It sits, to my nose, somewhere between the original Miss Dior (which I have never worn, but smelled once) and Diorella, but at homeopathic dosage…
Oh tragic! I’m glad some made it to you. This seems to me the central difficulty of swapping–the tension between wanting to spread the love and the risk of things being lost to all in transit…
(PS major shoutout to one of my swap partners who has just about moved mountains to make sure I get her package! I am very touched by the heroic measures!)
Bois d’Argent, which I like very much, but still prefer the more flamboyant Dior Homme and Dior Homme Intense. (Why pay more for a tamer version?) My plan was to wear Poison, but I chickened out. Bad sinuses to face the typhoon.
Bois d’Argent is lovely, but it does seem like something one could get away with wearing if perfume was forbidden.
LOL! And since it’s not forbidden, I see no point in getting it instead of Homme!
SOTD is Midnight Poison. Really, I don’t have too many Dior perfumes, which is rather surprising. Ambre Nuit needs to get in my collection so bad. 🙂 I still have no idea why Dior discontinued MP as it is so pretty and rather unusual. Maybe that’s why it got the boot. No one was buying it? Actually, it seems like the Poison flankers are getting more expensive and harder to find. The other day I was looking up a replacement bottle of Pure Poison and it’s far more expensive now than it was even just a few years back. What is going on over at Dior?
Thanks, everyone, for all your Lush suggestions. I just got back and here’s what I bought:
– A large Rosy gift set that has a rose bath bomb, a rose bubbler (I think) of some kind, a small pot of the rose argan body balm, small bottle of Rose Jam and little pot of some Lush Everything balm or something similar which I can’t exactly recall as it’s all still in the box.
– Backup medium size bottle of Rose Jam. It almost makes me weak in the knees and reminds me a lot of Montale Sweet Oriental Dream. Yum.
– Small bottle of Flying Fox shower gel. It smells amazing!
– Small bottle of Happy Happy Joy Joy conditioner. They had a shower gel, but the shower gel smelled more like citrus fruit where as the orange blossom note in the conditioner was truly gorgeous.
– They didn’t have any Lust save for the solid and I’m not wild about solid perfumes. So after smelling Karma and not really feeling it, the SA handed me a bottle of Sikkim Girls to try and it was love at first sniff! So I bought the little $10 size and am very happy with it.
– Sample of Honey I Washed The Kids (almost bought It’s Raining Men)
– Sample of the Jasmine Henna Frizz Smoothing treatment
After that, I had a decent Sephora coupon to use and managed to score a bottle of Black Orchid for a really good price after doing that “buy a bunch of samples, redeem a voucher for a full bottle” thing.
So yeah, busy shopping day (and my card just went into the witness protection program) but lots of lovely holiday goodies and a very fatigued nose. 🙂
You know I had been wondering whether I was hallucinating re: how much of a discount one got with one of those Sephora perfume sample sets–it really did work for you, you got the 1.7oz at basically half price? (and even less with the coupon?)
Glad you had fun at Lush!
Those lush bubble bars are very good. Just make sure you know how to use them. You have to crumble them under the running tap. Don’t just drop them in the water like you would a bath bomb. It looks like you’ve got a lot of great stuff. Enjoy!
C.H., If you play your cards right with those samplers, you can do okay in the end. I had a VIB $20 off $50 or more and ended up walking out the door with a bottle of Black Orchid for $42. I don’t remember if it was the 1 or 1.7 ounce, but it retailed for $75, so not too shabby.
Jonah, thank you for the tip. I hope the box comes with directions as I don’t know how to use most of the crazy exciting stuff Lush had going on. But it looks like fun figuring it out. I’ll remember to crumble, not toss as I would a standard bath fizzy. Thank you.
I’m doing the same thing! I’ve gotten several bottles via the sephora sampler. Can’t wait to redeem my voucher next weekend when I visit my sister. Sadly my mall only has a jc penny sephora and for some reason you can’t redeem your voucher there. Oh well! They don’t have the tom ford scents there anyway. Enjoy your new bottle!
Fun! Enjoy your lovely-smelling items.
Lush opened at my local mall a couple of months ago, and this week they still hadn’t gotten any perfumes. They had a few solid perfume testers at one point, but even they are gone now.
I have no Diors! My favourite though is Dior Homme which I will one day own. Tonight I’m wearing Coromandel and it smells pretty good.
Miss Dior as well today, in vintage edt. The only Dior I have, actually (mini, not full bottle). I’m never sure what I think of it, but I do like the spicy leathery-ness in the drydown.
Diorissimo, even tho its so cold out. I confess I rolled a little Sandlewood and amber oil on one wrist, and some LOTV oil on the other wrist before I dressed and sprayed the Diorissimo, which is serving in a rather linear fashion to extend the EDT, which doesn’t last a long time on my skin.
SOTD is vintage Diorella extrait, gorgeous and even better than Thérèse.
You smell amazing!
I hadn’t worn it in a long time, but it is stunning. I ought to wear it more often as I think the top notes are going off.
austenfan, a day late but you smell lovely. I chose vintage Diorella too, although EDP.
It’s been a wonderful ride!
Today I’m in Dior Homme Sport .
This is the original release with the glorious ginger top that mysteriously went missing in the newer versions.
Interesting! I kept wondering each time I tried it what it was I once liked about it. Now I remember – yes, it once had a great shot of ginger. At the time I thought I must just like ginger as a note, but actually I never did find any other ginger perfume I liked…
Perhaps I should not have let that one get away.
The top notes make my mouth water – it was a huge mistake of Dior to re introduce the fragrance with more lemony fresh top.
Wish I had more as my bottle is getting very low and has more into the archives for preservation .
Feel your pain ;(
Hypnotic Poison 🙂 my HG
I recently received my very first blind-buy, an older bottle of Jolie Madame edt, and didn’t have a chance to try it on skin before leaving for vacation last week. Today was my first opportunity, so I’m in a tiny amount of Dior’s Cuir Cannage layered with Jolie Madame. It worked very well!
PS – Merlin, as you hoped, I DO adore JM! 🙂
Very very glad! Perhaps I need to try pair it with Cuir Cannage 🙂 I did once wear it with Delices de Fleurs (just a sugary violet-rose scent) and found that to work quite well. Kind of like a glucose injection…
It seems I am one of the few Diorophiles around 🙂 I find many of their scents to be full-bodied and opulent, and though the high glamour image does not suit me at all I tend to prefer them to the restrained elegance of Chanel and the feline sensuousness of Guerlain. Eau Noire is my favorite of all, but my Homme Edt has been quite neglected so it got an outing today 🙂
Wearing hypnotic poison for today.
Whoops – had meant to wear my decant of vintage Dioressimo, but completely forgot and wore Adam Levine for Her instead, since I wanted something very quiet.
This week was so hectic that I completely forgot that we even had those community projects! 🙁 Too bad because I really like Dior and own in one form or the other (from samples to bottles) more than 20 different perfumes.
Instead I’m wearing Ormonde Jayne Tsarina. It’s so soft and elegant… I can imagine that I’m wearing Dior’s New Look 1947.
This week has been absolutely crazy for me. I haven’t had an opportunity to even breathe today, hence the late post. I searched through ALL of my samples and realized I don’t have any Dior scents. But, I did come across an old bottle of J ‘ adore that I hadn’t noticed in years. I still had some left. It doesn’t smell the same as it did when I first got it, but still nice. Enjoy your weekend, everyone.
Get some rest during the weekend! (I know will try to)
My SOTD was Hypnotic Poison — the only Dior I own. I went to the art museum with a couple of women that I used to work with (they have retired). A school field trip had been cancelled, so there were a dozen museum docents with nothing to do. Although we’ve been to the museum several times, we let a couple of them give us a tour.
SOTD is Dior Homme edp. Sweetgrass has talked this one up here, so I picked up a sample at Sephora. It smelled a bit masculine to me for the first few minutes, then quite nice, then went rubbing alcohol/iso e super after about an hour. I thought about scrubbing, but luckily I waited, and the nastiness faded maybe an hour later. I haven’t tried any vintage, but of the modern Diors, I think I like this better than anything except Dune. I don’t know that I’d buy a bottle of either, though. I think Dior is just Not My House.
Have you tried their Collection Privee?
Today was a coin toss between Diorissimo and Diorling. In the end, I chose Diorling. If Dior made Diorling in edp form, it would be bottle worthy but since it’s edt, it’s only decant worthy because it goes so quick on my skin.
I went with Mitzah. Such a gorgeous scent, strange that they discontinued it.
