Monday scent of the day 11/10

Posted by Robin on 10 November 2014 88 Comments

Green ivy

Happy Monday! What fragrance did you pick to celebrate the start of another week?

I'm wearing Providence Perfume Co Ivy Tower.

Reminder: this Friday, 11/14, is L'Effet Angel Friday: wear Thierry Mugler Angel, an Angel flanker or spawn of Angel (i.e. something influenced by Angel), with partial credit for wearing another Mugler fragrance.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2014, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

SOTD is Bvlgari Black. Primarily to counteract the after affects (oh! the sugar rush!) of wearing Angel yesterday. I’m not sure I can manage to wear Angel on Friday. I don’t have any flankers, and the original is one I rarely wear because its just so sweet….

I’m looking forward to Angel Day with trepidation. I loathe Angel so have none. I do have Lolita Lempicka, but Angel Day seems a more autumnal thing than a spring thing- even LL might be too much!

Angel Day will so far be the only one I don’t do. I like the flanker from a few years ago that amped the cocoa but I don’t have any of it. Oh well.

I’m travelling to a very warm and humid location, and its a work trip, with long hours, but I’m taking my Angel sample with me, and on Friday I’m gonna spray it like there is no tomorrow. I’ll probably regret, though. 🙂

Of course you can skip! But also you can just pick a newer, lighter fragrance that you think shows some lineage from Angel.

I was woken up by the loudest thunder I ever remember hearing in the wee hours of this morning- my whole house was rattling!
The stormy weather stayed for most the day, so La Fille de Berlin seemed a good fit.

Tonight I’m in Portrait of a Lady. I’m going through the coffret seeing if there’s any that need to go on the triaged fb list.. not this one.

since i’m feeling a little stabby because I have my second head cold in 4 weeks, I went with a no-brainer: No. 5 Eau Premiere. I can’t smell it but I know that a single spritz can’t hurt anyone.

Last night I layered Labdanum 18 with a little bit of Coco body cream. wowzers, it worked! I considered doing that today instead but with my nose all not working I thought maybe I’d overdo it and walking around smelling like a cat in heat who rolled in some vanilla beans. So Eau Premiere it is.

Their formula is really great too – I just have a giant tube that I got at Marshalls or TJ Maxx or something and it’s great for when I don’t want my lotion to compete with my perfume.

I once spilled almost an entire bottle of some Aveda scent on an area rug and after trying to clean it, I had to throw the rug away. Just could not get it to stop stinking, no matter how much I washed it.

I’m wearing Pharrell Williams Girl. It reminds me of HeWood (any other HeWood fans out there?) but more floral and with a little bit of a (pleasant) sweat note. Good stuff!

Scent twins! I bought the Girl travel spray yesterday, since I had the 20% off coupon from Sephora (can’t waste a coupon, right?). The opening is a little rough, but it’s great as it dries down. It reminds me of a houseplant my parents had when I was a kid, so it feels very familiar.

I’m glad I’m not the only one that thought Girl smells like HeWood. I have a 30ml bottle of HeWood that I got at Ross for like $10. I wouldn’t say I’m a fan, though.. I found that I just can’t do the violet leaf. If you want a bottle of HeWood you are welcome to mine.

Gorgeous day here in the south- mid 70’s and tons of sun! I feel for you poor folks having to deal with the dreaded blast of arctic air that is barreling down from the north. Stay snuggled up and wear a warm cozy perfume.

SOTD is Eau Duelle EDP- it’s just so…wearable! Still working on the sample I got a couple weeks ago and while I do like it, I don’t see a FB in my future. May slip into some Bvlgari Black later today…

I’m wearing L’Artisan Jour de Fete. It’s been such a miserable grey day here in the UK that I felt the need for something a bit cheery!

As an aside, (and I hope Robin doesn’t mind me sharing this) TK Maxx in the UK has a number of L’Artisan items for sale at the moment including Jour de Fete (for £19.99, yes you read that right, £19.99) and gift sets of Nuit de Tubereuse and La Chasse Aux Papillons 🙂

I need to move, really. Between the comment the other day of Sephora in Europe carrying niche scents to your TK Maxx (why the K instead of the J?) doing this amazing sale on L’Artisan I’m feeling really bummed being on this side of the pond!
      Or I can plan a trip 😉

I finally got a little sample of Aftelier’s Parfum Privé, which Angela reviewed here a few years ago. It’s gorgeous, and in a way I wish I hadn’t smelled it because this is one perfume I think I’d like to have in the solid version… but it’s something like $415. It sounds like Mandy Aftel had perhaps only a limited amount of the ambergris she used to make this, though, and I’ve been afraid it would be discontinued or sold out or something before I ever had a chance to try it.

    Wearing no.5 eau premiere.

Between this weekend’s conversation here, and the Perfume organization topic over on Bois de Jasmin, plus the fact that the fiance and I are looking to move soon, Saturday night was spent organizing my perfume collection.
I packed away the majority of my stuff, and the plan is to drain a bunch of samples/decants for the next month or two.
I am also not allowed to buy any more Shalimar, because I could officially take a bath (a foot bath, but still) in the amount I have accumulated.
So my perfume is down to one drawer and a bunch of ready to move boxes in the closet.
    For now 😉

I’m wearing Couvent des Minimes Eau des Missions today. I’d been reading about how some people think it’s a dead ringer for Guerlain Spiriteuse Double Vanille, so I picked it up at Ulta over the weekend. I haven’t actually smelled SDV, so I can’t say how similar it is. However, for me it felt similar to Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille, so that convinced me to buy it.

They also had another one called Eau Aimable that I really liked as well. It is a pretty orange blossom, and the same price as EdM. Longevity isn’t as good, but it doesn’t really have much of a base anchoring it down, wheareas EdM is basically all base.

Wearing PdE Osmanthe Interdite today, from a sample that has been languishing in the sample bin forever. It’s nice from far away, but when I sniff up close, I get something I don’t like. Maybe leather? I am not a fan of leather in perfumes, but love the smell in real life.

I have a sample of Angel La Part des Anges Extrait, which is so smooth and lovely. I like original Angel in very very small doses on other people and had a bottle of Angel Innocent long ago. If it’s cool enough here, I’ll put on a dab of the Anges. My husband hates hates hates patchouli and while this one is not as bad as Angel, it’s still there so I’ll have to dab lightly!

I’ve read descriptions of perfumes that say something like “a leathery osmanthus.”

My SOTD is an early splurgy birthday present: I got the Diptyque Essences Insensees (that’s a finger twister on the keyboard!). I am a mimosa lover. It is just gorgeous. And for anyone wondering- there is a clever twist lock to the sprayer to stop evaporation (it’s much like the twist lock on most facial moisturizers with pumps now).

I like this one a lot! I’ve tried a couple of times to get a sample but they never have. It’s very pretty and I’m not a mimosa fan. I love the bottle too! Enjoy!!

Ok, if they addressed the atomizer problem I will have to sample it. I was avoiding it just in case I fell in love.

Lifting a mundane Monday out of the ordinary, YSL Cinema edp layered over L’Occitane’s almond body products is a golden almond vanilla autumn delight. Yum!

Today I’m wearing Atelier Vanille Insensee. It was a very busy day and I wanted something that is soft yet comforting, so it fit the bill perfectly.

It was a sampling day: I started out with some Mythique on one hand and when that faded spritzed some No 19 on top; on the other hand tried some Elixer de Merveilles, but have decided to stick with the Ambre de Merveilles I already have.

I’ve been stuck on AG Heure Exquise recently, since wearing Passion last Friday. Heure Exquise is a wonderful scent. Can’t decide whether to test CB IHP Ambrosius tonight, or put on some L’AP Traversee du Bosphore, which is perfect for our current fall weather.

Testing the new Rundholz 22 Sept. 1966 and I don’t like it at all. Something weird and acrid in there. I absolutely loved the first Rundholz 3 April 1968 which is an animalic incense bomb but this new one is so not me. I also sampled Masque Milano Russian Tea (meh) and Dasein Winter (like). At least there was one winner!

De Profundis — loving this. Also sad I only ordered a tiny decant from TPC recently, because it’s almost gone. 🙁
