Happy Monday! What fragrance did you pick to celebrate the start of another week?
I'm wearing Providence Perfume Co Ivy Tower.
Reminder: this Friday, 11/14, is L'Effet Angel Friday: wear Thierry Mugler Angel, an Angel flanker or spawn of Angel (i.e. something influenced by Angel), with partial credit for wearing another Mugler fragrance.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2014, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

SOTD is Bvlgari Black. Primarily to counteract the after affects (oh! the sugar rush!) of wearing Angel yesterday. I’m not sure I can manage to wear Angel on Friday. I don’t have any flankers, and the original is one I rarely wear because its just so sweet….
I’m looking forward to Angel Day with trepidation. I loathe Angel so have none. I do have Lolita Lempicka, but Angel Day seems a more autumnal thing than a spring thing- even LL might be too much!
Angel Day will so far be the only one I don’t do. I like the flanker from a few years ago that amped the cocoa but I don’t have any of it. Oh well.
I’m travelling to a very warm and humid location, and its a work trip, with long hours, but I’m taking my Angel sample with me, and on Friday I’m gonna spray it like there is no tomorrow. I’ll probably regret, though. 🙂
That is the right attitude!
Of course you can skip! But also you can just pick a newer, lighter fragrance that you think shows some lineage from Angel.
I was woken up by the loudest thunder I ever remember hearing in the wee hours of this morning- my whole house was rattling!
The stormy weather stayed for most the day, so La Fille de Berlin seemed a good fit.
Tonight I’m in Portrait of a Lady. I’m going through the coffret seeing if there’s any that need to go on the triaged fb list.. not this one.
I’ve been doing the same thing. I’m always on the fence about En Passant, so I think I’m going to go through the 5 m this week to decide already!
What fun! And best not to need fbs of them all.
since i’m feeling a little stabby because I have my second head cold in 4 weeks, I went with a no-brainer: No. 5 Eau Premiere. I can’t smell it but I know that a single spritz can’t hurt anyone.
Last night I layered Labdanum 18 with a little bit of Coco body cream. wowzers, it worked! I considered doing that today instead but with my nose all not working I thought maybe I’d overdo it and walking around smelling like a cat in heat who rolled in some vanilla beans. So Eau Premiere it is.
Ugh, feel better soon!
Blech tis cold season all right. I have a whopper at the moment and after dragging my sorry self out of the shower I put on Kiss My Face Peaceful Patchouli lotion. What I can smell, smells good! Hope you feel better soon, audreylicious 🙂
you too. this is so not great…..on the upside i have nothing to do today so tea and my kindle are on my major accomplishment list 🙂
love patchouli!
I’m wearing Cacharel Amor Amor, layered with the surprisingly iron-wearing Bliss Body Butter in Grapefruit + Aloe.
Oh, I need to try that body butter!
I LOVE the Bliss body butters. The vanilla + bergamot is my favorite.
Their formula is really great too – I just have a giant tube that I got at Marshalls or TJ Maxx or something and it’s great for when I don’t want my lotion to compete with my perfume.
It’s my first try today, and it’s nice! If you happen to be on Sephora anytime soon, I got a free sample of this in a pack with the code seasonset. 🙂
How was it? Cacharel Amor Amor seems a bit under-loved
Sampling Slumberhouse Jeke– lots of smoke with a smidge of something soft close up. Definitely good for cooler weather
SOTD is Annick Goutal Amber Fetiche. Recently bought a small bottle but UGH this morning I dropped it and the lid fell off. Only lost a bit, though. Not a bad scent for my wood floors …
I once spilled almost an entire bottle of some Aveda scent on an area rug and after trying to clean it, I had to throw the rug away. Just could not get it to stop stinking, no matter how much I washed it.
Oh no! I can only imagine … at least I only spilled a small amount of something I like.
I’m wearing Pharrell Williams Girl. It reminds me of HeWood (any other HeWood fans out there?) but more floral and with a little bit of a (pleasant) sweat note. Good stuff!
Scent twins! I bought the Girl travel spray yesterday, since I had the 20% off coupon from Sephora (can’t waste a coupon, right?). The opening is a little rough, but it’s great as it dries down. It reminds me of a houseplant my parents had when I was a kid, so it feels very familiar.
I wouldn’t turn down a travel spray of Girl!
I’m glad I’m not the only one that thought Girl smells like HeWood. I have a 30ml bottle of HeWood that I got at Ross for like $10. I wouldn’t say I’m a fan, though.. I found that I just can’t do the violet leaf. If you want a bottle of HeWood you are welcome to mine.
Hey, that’s sweet of you! My husband and I share a 30 ml bottle. I don’t think it’s low enough that we need a backup yet, but if you’re still looking to get rid of it in 6 months or so, try me!
Will do! I’ve tried to swap it a couple of times, and didn’t get any takers, so I might still have it in 6 months. 🙂
Gorgeous day here in the south- mid 70’s and tons of sun! I feel for you poor folks having to deal with the dreaded blast of arctic air that is barreling down from the north. Stay snuggled up and wear a warm cozy perfume.
SOTD is Eau Duelle EDP- it’s just so…wearable! Still working on the sample I got a couple weeks ago and while I do like it, I don’t see a FB in my future. May slip into some Bvlgari Black later today…
Demeter Incense, which is just warm enough, just sweet enough, and barely smoky at all. A really great autumn scent.
I’m wearing L’Artisan Jour de Fete. It’s been such a miserable grey day here in the UK that I felt the need for something a bit cheery!
As an aside, (and I hope Robin doesn’t mind me sharing this) TK Maxx in the UK has a number of L’Artisan items for sale at the moment including Jour de Fete (for £19.99, yes you read that right, £19.99) and gift sets of Nuit de Tubereuse and La Chasse Aux Papillons 🙂
I need to move, really. Between the comment the other day of Sephora in Europe carrying niche scents to your TK Maxx (why the K instead of the J?) doing this amazing sale on L’Artisan I’m feeling really bummed being on this side of the pond!
Or I can plan a trip 😉
Sigh…
Not at all, thanks for sharing and wish I was there!
Hello BobH!
I’m wearing Jour de Fete also. Wheat, almonds and musk. It smells great, just wish it was a bit more tenacious.
Curiously I perceive no vanilla – though all the reviews I’ve read have mentioned it.
I don’t really get vanilla either, something a little sweet, a little milky, a little green… but no vanilla.
I hope everyone had a nice weekend!
I’m in Penhaligon’s Peoneve, which is nice, but almost gone already. I have gotten wiser in my old age and now know to bring my atomizer with me. I also no longer mistakenly call it an “atomitizer”…
Haha, atomitizer!! I mess up pronunciation all the time, probably because I don’t read very carefully. I’m just glad it was my sister who corrected me when I said fruit-ition instead of fruition. Would have been much more embarrassing at work 😉
I finally got a little sample of Aftelier’s Parfum Privé, which Angela reviewed here a few years ago. It’s gorgeous, and in a way I wish I hadn’t smelled it because this is one perfume I think I’d like to have in the solid version… but it’s something like $415. It sounds like Mandy Aftel had perhaps only a limited amount of the ambergris she used to make this, though, and I’ve been afraid it would be discontinued or sold out or something before I ever had a chance to try it.
For the start of this week I’m wearing Sous le toit de Paris for a wonderful whiff throughout the day of violet leaf and leather – the best!
I’m sampling Kerosene Pretty Machine today. It’s very nice, but smells similar to other scents I own so no FB of this.
To those of you in the central US who are freezing, here’s hoping you all stay safe and warm.
Ooh really? I have a decant of PM and quite like it- what else do you think smells similar foxbins?
Wearing Vent Vert, which I just got a FB of. Since I never knew the original, I’m in love with this one. It´s bright green yet very polished, perfect for a spring day, and long lasting, too.
Poussiere de Rose for me today.
I’m ridiculously excited about Thierry Mugler Friday.
Pacifica Spanish Amber with the thought of something else a little later in the day.
I m excited about Friday as well because I have to ponder a choice since Monsieur Mugler is well represented in my collection!
Grand Amour for me today. It’s lovely, just the right balance between sweet and bitter.
Testing Promesse de l’Aube this morning. I think the Boucheron I wore last night is still pretty ‘present’ this morning and the combo is a little much for this time of day. After shower, I think I’ll try to cleanse my palate with something non-floral and dry.
Promesse is so beautiful!
It is lovely. Just didn’t feel right for 8 am today, especially mixed with Boucheron…too much of a good thing. Switched to Bois des Iles post-shower. To me, this always feels right.
SOTD: Invictus Paco Rabanne for men
Patchouli 24 for me today. I love this scent, and it’s perfect for this grey and brooding November day, but I think my couple years old 8 ml decant will last me at least 10 more years!
You smell wonderful!
Patch 24 is one of the only decants I’ve ordered in a roll-on and have been glad I did. I’m a bit heavy-handed in my spraying, so the roll-on stops me from killing myself in Patch 24 fumes
I am thinking of Infusion d’Iris today or maybe Mitsouko today. But I am leaning to Infusion due to a head cold and I can’t go wrong with it.
Vetiver Tonka today, and it is so cozy.
Hi Missionista! I just got a decant of this one and I’m excited to start wearing it. I would love a FB but its pricey plus, I feel like my nose keeps changing on me and 6 months from now I might hate it.
The tonka in this is delicious and oh so cozy.
Floragal, have you tried Tonka Imperiale? It’s a tonka bomb.
Have not, but will do so!
You are quite the Guerlain gal 😉
How is it up in your Ivy Tower, Robin? Couldn’t help it — great perfume name. 🙂
But seriously, how earthy is it? How indolic is it?
It isn’t really earthy or indolic, it’s just green! The floral notes are way less noticeable than the green.
Thanks!
Today I’m in Shams Oud by Memo Paris. I find it surprisingly bewitching and ideal fur the current weather.
I love Shams Oud! Wish Memo had a US distributor so I wouldn’t have to order from Germany.
Wearing no.5 eau premiere.
Between this weekend’s conversation here, and the Perfume organization topic over on Bois de Jasmin, plus the fact that the fiance and I are looking to move soon, Saturday night was spent organizing my perfume collection.
I packed away the majority of my stuff, and the plan is to drain a bunch of samples/decants for the next month or two.
I am also not allowed to buy any more Shalimar, because I could officially take a bath (a foot bath, but still) in the amount I have accumulated.
So my perfume is down to one drawer and a bunch of ready to move boxes in the closet.
For now 😉
God – I remember how much work it was to store my frags before I moved a few years ago. Yuck. I actually boxed 90% of it up and stored it in my office at work b/c I was so worried something would happen to the boxes.
Quite the project!
Yesterday I wore Coco and was reminded of why I love this one so much. So I’m wearing it again today.
Wearing Renee Snowpeach today. We’re getting snow, sleet and ice today, so I thought I’d put on a perfume that has the word snow in its name.
SOTD = Guerlain Tonka Imperiale
Wowee – it hit all the right buttons – sweet and spicy all day long
I took advantage of my 20% off coupon at Sephora and got several L’Artisan sample sets. I will give one to one of my nieces for Christmas and the other two I will combine into atomizers. I already have a FB of Seville a l’Aube so those will get gifted or swapped away.
I’m looking forward to the Angel flanker challenge
Can you believe I used my 20% coupon online but it didn’t “take” for me so I called them and there was nothing they could do but give me the money off a future purchase. I was happy that I didn’t loose the savings completely, but it was such a bummer to not get the deal/savings that day!
How fun that you have a niece that enjoys perfume! I wish I had one family member that I could enjoy this hobby with.
Patricia de Nicolai’s Rose Pivoine for me today. Gosh this is heartbreakingly pretty! I ordinarily go for darker, spicier roses, but this is a beauty. I may have to contemplate a decant, or at least another sample.
I wear this a lot in the early summer – it’s very pretty. Really well done.
It never gets mentioned but it is such a lovely simple scent. And I don’t mean that in a derogatory way.
I’m wearing Couvent des Minimes Eau des Missions today. I’d been reading about how some people think it’s a dead ringer for Guerlain Spiriteuse Double Vanille, so I picked it up at Ulta over the weekend. I haven’t actually smelled SDV, so I can’t say how similar it is. However, for me it felt similar to Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille, so that convinced me to buy it.
They also had another one called Eau Aimable that I really liked as well. It is a pretty orange blossom, and the same price as EdM. Longevity isn’t as good, but it doesn’t really have much of a base anchoring it down, wheareas EdM is basically all base.
Wow. I could use a SDV dupe in my collection. Gotta get to Ulta I guess.
Kenzo Elephant this morning and Serge Lutens Chergui (for the first time) now : )
Oh, I love me some l’Elephant! You smell delish 🙂
Wearing PdE Osmanthe Interdite today, from a sample that has been languishing in the sample bin forever. It’s nice from far away, but when I sniff up close, I get something I don’t like. Maybe leather? I am not a fan of leather in perfumes, but love the smell in real life.
I have a sample of Angel La Part des Anges Extrait, which is so smooth and lovely. I like original Angel in very very small doses on other people and had a bottle of Angel Innocent long ago. If it’s cool enough here, I’ll put on a dab of the Anges. My husband hates hates hates patchouli and while this one is not as bad as Angel, it’s still there so I’ll have to dab lightly!
I’ve read descriptions of perfumes that say something like “a leathery osmanthus.”
I don’t like the smell of leather in real life, but I can sometimes tolerate a tiny bit of it in perfume.
My SOTD is an early splurgy birthday present: I got the Diptyque Essences Insensees (that’s a finger twister on the keyboard!). I am a mimosa lover. It is just gorgeous. And for anyone wondering- there is a clever twist lock to the sprayer to stop evaporation (it’s much like the twist lock on most facial moisturizers with pumps now).
I like this one a lot! I’ve tried a couple of times to get a sample but they never have. It’s very pretty and I’m not a mimosa fan. I love the bottle too! Enjoy!!
Thank you!
Ok, if they addressed the atomizer problem I will have to sample it. I was avoiding it just in case I fell in love.
Lifting a mundane Monday out of the ordinary, YSL Cinema edp layered over L’Occitane’s almond body products is a golden almond vanilla autumn delight. Yum!
Today I’m wearing Atelier Vanille Insensee. It was a very busy day and I wanted something that is soft yet comforting, so it fit the bill perfectly.
It was a sampling day: I started out with some Mythique on one hand and when that faded spritzed some No 19 on top; on the other hand tried some Elixer de Merveilles, but have decided to stick with the Ambre de Merveilles I already have.
I’ve been stuck on AG Heure Exquise recently, since wearing Passion last Friday. Heure Exquise is a wonderful scent. Can’t decide whether to test CB IHP Ambrosius tonight, or put on some L’AP Traversee du Bosphore, which is perfect for our current fall weather.
Testing the new Rundholz 22 Sept. 1966 and I don’t like it at all. Something weird and acrid in there. I absolutely loved the first Rundholz 3 April 1968 which is an animalic incense bomb but this new one is so not me. I also sampled Masque Milano Russian Tea (meh) and Dasein Winter (like). At least there was one winner!
De Profundis — loving this. Also sad I only ordered a tiny decant from TPC recently, because it’s almost gone. 🙁
