Gucci Made to Measure ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 25 June 2013 13 Comments

Gucci Made to Measure

Gucci will launch Made to Measure, a new fragrance for men, in July. Made to Measure is intended as the masculine counterpart to Gucci Première, and will be fronted by James Franco.

The spicy oriental fragrance features notes of bergamot, orange blossom, lavender, aniseed, nutmeg, water lily, juniper berry, plum, cinnamon, cistus labdanum, patchouli, leather and amber.

Gucci Made to Measure will be available in 50 and 90 ml Eau de Toilette and in matching grooming products.

Looking forward to try this one. The latest guccis post-Tom Ford have been REALLY bland for me. Both male or female. I think this one has a little potential (oriental) but we’ll see.

“Made To Measure” sound awful though… In french sounds so much better.. “sur mesure” hehehehe (I googled it) And in spanish “A medida”.

The concept applies mostly to clothing. My aunt used to make clothes and she always reminded us, when we received a gift made by her (a sweatshirt, t-shirt, etc.) that “made to measure” was the MOST exclusive thing you could aspire to these days. That everyone else got “Pret a porter” and that was mass-made and “tacky” in comparison.
“You should know how lucky you are that you get made-to-measure clothes!” ;-)

Agree, Gucci has not been my favorite line lately. Still love the original 2003 Gucci Pour Homme though.

Hope the leather doesn’t ruin this like it ruined Premiere :/

Don’t like the name at all and ya, not a huge fan of Gucci as of late. I do really like Gucci Guilty and GGI(for women). Men’s scents from Gucci? Meh..and then there’s the Gargatuan Gardenia line…lol.

They just have a knack for funny names. I think they have a Gucci Gucci by Gucci for men in their line or something just as hilarious.
I think this one is a bad literal translation of “fatto su misura”, which is “custom made” in Italian, and which should be in fact translated as “custom made”… Oh well.
It reminds me of the very unfortunate D&G “Light blue Living Stromboli”. At some point I though it was a typo for “Leaving Stromboli”, which is a much more evocative name anyway…
This one does not sound really inspiring, but then again – we have to give them some credit for Gucci pour homme II, which is truly lovely

I love Pour Homme II and I agree on the “fatto sur misura” in spanish we call it “hecho a medida” wich also translates to “Custom Made”!

This mishaps in naming always remind me of “Provocative Woman” and how tacky and awful it sounded to me in english ;-)

Even before I read the notes, I suddenly remembered a quote from the great actor Alex Guiness.
“Often when someone sends me a script, they say the part was tailor made for me, I respond “You failed to take my measure.”

As I recall, he made the comment in explaining why he had improbably decided to play a wizard in a space opera, but had rejected many roles in social comedies.

The wizard role, of course, was Obi Wan Knobe.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the name is changed in English if the fragrance gets some mileage. Even “Tailored” or “Bespoke” jingles better… (better but not great) I think the frangrance notes sound interesting and I am looking forward to sniffing it. But the bottle, the bottle….ahhhh… anyone else think of Lavin’s Rumeur? http://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Lanvin/Rumeur-364.html
