Posted by Robin on 14 April 2011 9 Comments

Marie Claire International Fragrance Awards 2011

Marie Claire magazine has announced the winners of their first International Fragrance Awards. The winners were selected by the beauty journalists at Marie Claire (France and international). Prior to 2011, Marie Claire was a co-sponsor of the French Fifi Awards.

Best Fragrance for Women ~ Balenciaga Paris

Most Daring Fragrance for Women ~ Thierry Mugler Womanity

Best Packaging for Women ~ Hermès Voyage d'Hermès

In addition to the international awards, the staff for each country-edition selects an award winner. The 2011 prize for France went to Frédéric Malle Portrait of a Lady. (via marieclaire.fr)

    That’s rather underwhelming… guess indies aren’t eligible?

True indies are almost never included in these sorts of awards, although the US Fifis have a new indie category. Still, I thought these were decent picks…Balenciaga Paris is a great scent, Voyage is a wonderful bottle, and the Malle pick was a good one too. As for Womanity being most daring, well, maybe that’s a stretch :-)

Surprisingly decent picks! I’m never impressed with Allure’s Best of Beauty fragrance winners, at least Marie Claire’s beauty journalists can stand up for a good thing when the smell it without buckling to excessive pressure from advertisers.

I’m afraid I don’t even pay attention to Allure’s Best of Beauty! This seems like a more elaborate prize system, and yes, I thought they were surprisingly decent too. Helps that they kept the number of categories small.

I really like it that they’ve included a “most daring” category — and Womanity is a good choce for that one.

Nice to be pleasantly surprised by award selections. I can see Womanity being most daring amongst relatively mainstream things – it is a weird one (which I like). The Balenciaga really sneaked up on me – I scoffed after sniffing on paper, somehow wound up with a sample, and became determined to eventually own some.

I had the same experience with Balenciaga Paris- my bottle arrived last week & I have been boringly wearing it each day. I dont normally have to replace a bottle of perfume ( tired of it before I spray the last spray) but I may have to with this one!

You know, it might have been the most daring choice. I’d have to sit & look at a list from last year.
