Bunch o’ limited edition collector bottles 2010, part 13

Posted by Robin on 20 August 2010 60 Comments

More limited edition collector fragrance bottles, with the usual disclaimers: in most of these cases, the juice is unchanged, just the bottle is “special” (or not, as the case may be), and some of these may not be available in the US.

Guerlain Shalimar by Jade Jagger

The new bottle for Guerlain Shalimar, designed by Jade Jagger (yes, daughter of Mick and Bianca) and due to launch in September. It will be available in 30, 50 and 90 ml Eau de Parfum, and in a limited edition 20 ml Extrait version ($1500). (via escentual, wwd, style)

Thierry Mugler Angel Mugler Show Star

From Thierry Mugler, Angel in the Angel Mugler Show Star edition: "A rousing round of applause for this dramatic star, appearing radiantly dressed in a daring haute-couture black leather-like bustier, adorned with glittering black Swarovski® crystals." $115 for 50 ml Eau de Parfum (refillable), available at Neiman Marcus.

Elizabeth Arden Pretty

From Elizabeth Arden, a limited edition of Pretty: "The unchanged juice, created by Givaudan’s Claude Dir, is presented in a flower-strewn version of the original bottle." In 50 ml Parfum Spray, due to launch in October, $59. (via moodiereport)

Marc Jacobs Daisy solid perfume ring

From Marc Jacobs, a solid perfume ring in the Daisy fragrance. $42, due to launch in October. (via cosmeticworld)

Estee Lauder Sensuous Hibiscus Compact

From Estee Lauder, the Sensuous Hibiscus Compact: "A brilliant flower in full bloom, so exquisitely sculpted it looks freshly plucked. Each petal gleams with tones of red, pink, and purple, while the center glitters with diamond-clear crystals. Golden details complete the design. Inside find Sensuous in long-lasting solid perfume." In a velvety pouch, $175 at Bergdorf Goodman.

EL always does such lovely cases for their solid perfumes. That Marc Jacobs Daisy is adorable, too.

Very cute — and check out the other EL solid at Bergdorf’s, a turtle for White Linen.

love, love the turtle…not liking White Linen all that much, sorry to say. I wish they put Knowing inside the turtle instead! Thinking what a great Christmas present the MJ Daisy ring will make for my future perfumista offspring! It’s adorable!

Really all the compacts ought to be “blanks” and you buy the solids separately…it would be so much better!

What a fabulous idea! We should write to them – do you mind if I do? And I love ya for that idea but my pocketbook is calling you an “enabler” ~ “wink-wink”.

Of course I don’t mind. Doubt they’d do it, but always worth a shot!

HAHAHA. Man. If only the bottle had a little hat to go with its bustier.

        Lol!

I wonder if Bond’s getting any ideas. 🙂

And the Estee Lauder compacts are always so tempting! Especially for the price. I just haven’t ventured into the world of solid perfumes yet, as I do like some sillage and longevity and don’t know if solids offer that.

Eau Lando and his cape and now Angel and her bustier. I sense a new “dress-up-your-bottle” trend rising in the fragrance industry. Diesel kind of has a jump on it with their bottles covered in leather and fishnet or lace…memory failing…crash!

She is a jewelry designer, I think, so possibly not that much of a stretch. They did another bottle with a jewelry designer recently.

Keith Richards’ daughters also appeared in the Shalimar Eau Legere ad campaign, so maybe there’s some Guerlain/Rolling Stones connection going on. 🙂

I’m all over this one, and I have my husband’s okay! In fact, when I told him about it he said we might need to pick up “a couple.” I LOVE Shalimar and we are Stones fans. We have seen them many times (he saw them the first time they came to the States) and have taken all the kids to see them – family values, I guess. I have a mini bottle and I think it is great. I’ve been waiting since my Guerlain rep friend told me about this several months ago.

I don’t know that “design” is the right word here, exactly. “Adapt” seems closer to the mark, since that bottle is very, very similar to the iconic Guerlain flaçon.

Still, it is very pretty, and more modern. She did a good job.

I agree, it’s an adaptation and not really a separate design. On the other hand, if it hadn’t retained any elements of the original design – one of the most distinctive and attractive bottles still available – I wouldn’t like it. I’m not a huge Shalimar fan, but… it’s downright pretty.

        Not $1500 pretty, but still.

Oh, I am writing through my virtual tears: I can’t believe they have redesigned the iconic Shalimar bottle. Sob sob sob. The new design is great, but come on! It would be like Chanel redesigning their classic bottle. Just say is isn’t so!

The EdP bottle was not so iconic (or old) as the extrait bottle — and not at all sure if they’re replacing the original extrait bottle but think not.

Oh. I hope not. I have one of the older edt bottles that still has the ribs on it. But I guess you are right – the new edp bottle is kind of a soft edged thing. I forgot about that. This is a better design than that for sure.

It really is better — but am waiting to see pictures of this in stores. Several publications described that picture as the EdP bottle, but it sure doesn’t look like an EdP bottle to me…has a stopper, for one thing, and for another, going to be surprised to see a footed bottle for an EdP. So wondering if they’re all wrong and this is the LE extrait? We’ll see come Sept/Oct…

The new Shalimar bottle has streamlined the striations which were representative of the waterfalls in the Gardens of Shalimar. Progress and change are good. The Chanel bottles have changed very slightly over the years too. There was an EDP footed pour bottle about 8 years ago. I believe it was 30 ml and it was an LE, the uniqueness being that the stopper was clear instead of blue. This quirk was not new then, it had been done before, a long time ago. Seems Guerlain likes to resurrect old classics in design from time to time thus keeping the patrimony of the legendary house. It’s probably a good thing. Customers need to be able to identify a bottle that doesn’t change much, however, companies are also aware that people like newness so they bring out slightly changed and/or different bottles with the same old juice.

Speaking of limited editions bottles, have just seen pictures of Guerlain’s new L’abeille de Guerlain bottle – designed & created by Baccarat & a bargain at only £12,000 for 245ml (!), but it does look FABULOUS!

I’m having trouble seeing what’s so new and exciting about that “new” Shalimar bottle… but I’m not a bottle connoisseur to know enough about every facet of the original.

And the perfume bottle in a bustier really is just about the silliest thing ever. Next: Beyonce Heat in a thong, Agent Provocateur in pasties…

:O that’s exactly what I’m like when I smell flowerbomb on other people, though I haven’t yet, I imagine it :/

I also scowl at people instore who pick up a box or spray the tester on them. but i guess you have to live with other people wearing your signature scent. like I said I’ve never actually smelled it on anyone else but other people have to buy it or it would go discontinued :/ it’s a vicious cycle lol

Ehh, I prefer the classic ribbed Shalimar bottle to this smoother, more angular variation, but it’s an improvement over the current EdP bottle. The Angel one just seems silly, and I love me some Angel. Dressing up Gaultier Classique in a leather bustier, of course, but…a star? Where is the cleavage, exactly? And bling on top of it? I mean, sure, knock yourself out, but…doesn’t really click for me.

Okay, something positive…well, the Daisy compact is suprisingly stylish for what I’d pegged as a cutesy trifle of a perfume. And if I were an 8-year old girl that Pretty bottle would totally rock my world.
