The Perfume Diaries at Harrods

Posted by Robin on 16 August 2010 21 Comments

Harrods, The Perfume Diairies

Harrods in London will be holding an exhibit — titled The Perfume Diaries — "celebrating the past, present and future of the perfume industry". The exhibit is curated by Roja Dove of the Haute Parfumerie at Harrods.

A true celebration of the fragrance industry, The Perfume Diaries chronicles the fascinating story of perfume from ancient times right through to modern day and beyond. Harrods will unveil the amazing heritage behind fragrances on the market today, demonstrating the evolution of the world’s favourite scents.

Housed within a stylish contemporary exhibition space on the Fourth Floor of Harrods, the Perfume Diaries will appeal to anyone who has ever purchased a bottle of fragrance. Featuring a ‘who’s who’ of the fragrance world, The Perfume Diaries is a comprehensive view of the most significant and influential scents to have emerged since the 1800s; from Jicky to JLo and everything in between.

In collaboration with Givaudan, The Perfume Diaries will also include an interactive exhibit allowing visitors to see, touch and smell raw materials used in perfume.

The Perfume Diaries runs from 2 September through 2 October, with previews starting 28 August. (via press release)

This sounds fabulous! My mom will be here visiting so I think we can have a girlie outing. The trouble will be keeping my credit card in my wallet in the Beauty Hall!

    “From Jicky to JLo.” Classic!
Sometimes I feel spoiled for choice, when it comes to perfume, being in NYC… but then I get envious of Londoners!

ha! me too….the best I’ve got is an Ulta store! (and that there’s some purty slim pickins!) But that’s why we have the internet. I might actually put a small sign on the top of my monitor: ” Quik Draw —Fastest buy-it finger in the Midwest “

HA. I don’t even have an Ulta.

I can find it at an online discounter pretty fast, though…

Ha! You guys think you’ve got it tough…anyway, distance seems to have been no barrier to my huge bottle, sample, and decant haul!

Gosh, it would be wonderful though, to go into a retailer where they actually seemed to genuinely share one’s love of perfumery!

reading all this, it seems I should feel blessed living in Zagreb, Croatia for having a genuine niche perfumery shop carrying over 90 brands and a knowledgeable manager who’s always happy to discuss smelly issues with his clients. They also have a coffee shop next door, so many afternoons are spent sniffing and discussing perfumes and perfumers. lol

I’m also jealous….. but I have found one small perfume store and the owner loves perfumes. She has mostly all the AG scents, Floris and Amouage. She let me smell Amouage Dia, that was a big mistake 😀 It smells great on my skin, but the price …. That is something for more birthdays together…..

what you need is a split! I forget where in Europe you are…netherlands? we can talk about it if you’d like….Daisyloo82 at gmail.com 🙂 It happens that Dia is one of my Holy Grail perfumes and I understand the need to have some!

try perfumed body cream. great luxurious packaging as well. Cream carries scent better than the spritz. you’ll feel enveloped in fragrance all day (and night) long. Dia is heavenly to wear….

My other half bought me a ticket for a master class with Roja Dove for my 50th borthday. It took the form more of a seminar than an exhibit (there were about 8 or us round a table) but I suspect this – presumably free? – event will cover a lot of the same ground. If I can fit in a trip to London in that time frame, I wouldn’t mind checking it out, because I would love to have the same experience – or anything approximating to it! – all over again…
