72,000 bottles

Posted by Robin on 18 March 2010 13 Comments

[Terry, CEO of Macy's] Lundgren shared other tidbits, such as the fact that Macy’s sold $3 million worth of Beyoncé Heat, Beyoncé Knowles’ debut fragrance, from early February to early March, and 72,000 bottles during the hour she signed autographs in Herald Square.

If the CEO meant 72000 transactions at the NYC location in one hour, I would think that’s really physically impossible. That figure has to be wrong. You just can’t sell 1000+ bottles per minute… in one location.

$3M gross in one month seems very plausible though. Interesting!

It is hard to believe. Maybe they mean that’s the bottles they sold during the event (including the people who paid for their bottles & then got in line, etc).

The sets they had were very janky. They weren’t just selling 1 bottle. You had to buy at least 2 bottles to get it signed since they don’t have a lot of products in the line and some people were buying 3 or 4 and getting bottles for their friends. Do you think they’ll expand the line with more products, Robin?

You mean a flanker, or ancillary products? I’d be surprised not to see a flanker.

Oh, dear Lord… I finally smelled Heat last night, and all my teeth promptly rotted and fell out. Sweet to the nth degree…

I hear ya, Mals. I was extremely underwhelmed when I smelled Heat. It felt like J. Lo’s Live Luxe and an LE Escada had a love child. Given I already own LL and several Escadas and don’t wear them much, Heat is so not for me. I found the notes for Queen more intriguing though I’ve yet to try that one and don’t know if it sold nearly as well. And yes, I expect there will be a zillion flankers for Heat since clearly the market’s there. For a good fruity floral that’s sweet but really well done, I can not recommend Peche Cardinale highly enough. I’m lusting after a decant since it’s just so juicy yet dark in a way. :)

It was not one of my favorites.
