Studs in shorts

Posted by Robin on 21 September 2009 14 Comments

THE new Hollister store, on the corner of Houston Street and Broadway, has a smelly problem. Along with the studs in shorts standing by the door, the Hollister fragrance is billowing out into the streets, neighbors complain.

— Another stinky store in New York City. Read more at Locals raise stink at New York Post.

I love perfume, but I wouldn’t want to have it forced on me all day long. Particularly if it was unpleasant. “scented” is okay but “billowing” probably means they could tone it down, yes?

I keep waiting for one of these stores to get sued by an employee w/ health complaints…seriously, it just can’t be good to be breathing in that much perfume all day long.

maybe the studs in shorts need the fumes to numb their brains enough that they don’t feel the cold?

I’m pretty sure that the stuff billowing out of Hollister is barely one step above being doused in Axe. I can’t even set foot in Abercrombie or Hollister because of the stench.

It is curious how those stores do all they can to repel (eardrum-bursting music, snotty sales people, pungent aromas everywhere) and still manage to do good business. But I think I’ve said all this before here, so I’ll stop myself.

      absolutely Axe= acks!!

there are stores in the Mall that I actively avoid because of the music and smells (J won’t go near them either…she’d like the use of her eardrums later in life–her words) And I can guarantee I have more $$ to spend than the average teenager.

I think what they’re really doing is repelling the people who are too old to appreciate the clothing anyway ;-)

I remember that the Lush stores were smelling pretty viciously of all the perfumy stuff they sell and I often wondered how the SA’s manage to work in there without gas masks.

LOL — it’s true, that’s another smelly store! I assume, perhaps wrongly, that’s it’s just the smell of the products & that they’re not actually spraying stuff around.

I have to hold my breath when I walk by a Hollister, that Axe smell gives me an instant headache. I don’t know how anyone can work there!

Lush certainly does smell strong, but I don’t mind it as much (I used to wear Karma perfume when I was in my hippie phase). I guess there’s no accounting for taste.

I had some of that “karma” perfume, too. I can’t remember what it smelled like except it was heavy and strong… what the ‘notes’ were I don’t know.
