Viktor & Rolf Eau Mega ~ new perfume

Posted by Robin on 25 June 2009 67 Comments

Viktor & Rolf Eau Mega fragranceViktor & Rolf will launch Eau Mega, their third fragrance and the second for women, in October. The name is a play on the greek letter Omega, the tag line is Megafy Yourself.

Eau Mega is a green floral with an "extravagant freshness". It was developed by perfumers Oliver Polge and Carlos Benaim, both of whom also worked on the first Viktor & Rolf fragrance, Flowerbomb. The notes include pear, citron, violet leaf, basil, peony, jasmine and musk.

Viktor & Rolf Eau Mega will be available in 30, 50 and 75 ml, concentration unknown. (quote and image via cosmeticnews, additional information via pourelles.orange.fr, elle.nl)

Update: Viktor & Rolf Eau Mega is "fresh but not sporty or natural". Additional notes include aquatic notes, cedar, cashmere wood, sandalwood and white musk. (via wwd)

Another update: According to Moodie Report...

Eau Mega celebrates a new icon of femininity, in the form of a superheroine who, aided by her fragrance, transforms reality into her own universe of beauty and glamour and “megafies” the world.

And the bottle is called the "Megamizer".

Yet another update: see a review of Viktor & Rolf Eau Mega.

I’d much rather have extravagant greenness…

Same here..we’ve got plenty of extravagantly fresh green florals already this year. We’ll have to hope it was just an unfortunate word choice…although frankly fresh is only a bad word to a minority of us, right?

Well, and I don’t mind (even like?) fresh in smaller doses (think I’m much closer to the mainstream masses than most commenters here). The trouble is when those notes are overpowering. I bought my husband something he liked, and I liked it dabbed on from the sample vial. Sprayed on, however, it is FRESH…and I don’t much like it.

LOL…almost. It was Geir. As long as he doesn’t overspray, it still smells nice on him; just needs a very light hand. He now has some M7 Fresh which, in spite of the name, is much less fresh than the Geir…though we’ll see how it stands up to spraying.

Ah, yes, can see how that would be too fresh — but admittedly haven’t smelled it in a really long time. Could be worse, I’m sure!

Well, I like “fresh”, usually. To me the word means subtle and clean-smelling. So “extravagant freshness” is pretty close to an oxymoron, IMO!

O MY GOODNESS!!! Im so excited! Im loving everything about it! The notes and the bottle! Seems like its the total opposite of Flowerbomb. A GREEN floral! I LOVE it! I cant wait, i cant wait, i cant wait!!!

It really does sound like the opposite of Flowerbomb, doesn’t it? Looking forward to seeing the advertising.

Am I bad to love Flowerbomb? I don’t know. I’m interested in smelling this one though. Besides, I’ll take “extravagant freshness” over “diabetic-coma-inducing fruit” any day of the week.

I know what you mean. I sprayed Flowebomb on the fan they were handing out and popped it into a drawer. I opened it the next day and poof, magic! All pretty! But Flowerbomb on human skin…

Of course you are not bad to love Flowerbomb! First of all, you should love whatever you love, and 2nd, it’s very well done. It just isn’t my style.

Yeah, you’re not alone in loving Flowerbomb AT ALL. I avoided it for so long, thinking I hated it. I got a sample several months ago, and was surprised by how good it is on. I don’t normally do sugary, but it’s really good for what it is. When I’m in the mood for sweet, it’s perfect.

I like Flowerbomb, too! Am interested in trying this one, but I have to say, the name is pretty lame! Why not just call it Omega?

The term Omega may have too many negative connotations…but I think Eau Mega is a cute play on the word.

I have a bottle of Flowerbomb and wear it when I want something sweet. I got it right before I started reading this, in a state of complete confusion about perfume – I had gotten a Versace for Christmas I didn’t like and had to trade it in. I got really overwhelmed but had been sampling Flowerbomb so just went for it. I’m fine with it. This sounds pretty good, actually.

I’m with boojum, I’d rather have extravagant greenness. On the plus side, “fresh” is not listed as a note–there’s some hope.

At least Megafy Yourself is silly — I’ll go for silly over something that’s trying to be sexy but just sounds inane ;-)

Megafy, Megafry … such fun with the tag line! ;)

Me, I’m a formerly closeted Flower Bomb wearer. I wore it at my wedding, then grew to dislike it (enough to pass it on to a friend). I went back to it this year and it’s my current favorite at-home fragrance – I wear the body cream at night with a little srpay here and there.

FlowerBomb isn’t original or exciting, but it is the ONLY gourmand I will wear. I hate their pricing – it’s just not good enough to warrant that tier of spending, but I buy it anyway.

I’ll try this one, but I don’t have high hopes for it.

Agree that Flowerbomb is overpriced for what it is, but at least the packaging is fun — and the price isn’t nearly so bad as what some brands are up to these days!

I’ve always wanted to love a Viktor and Rolf frag–probably because their advertising and packaging is just lovely, but I just don’t do green scents. If Flowerbomb was just a few notches less sweet I would happily wear it in the wintertime.

Eau Mega is so extremely clever that I’m amazed nobody has ever used it before now. If they don’t release a flanker called Eau Micron I will be very, very surprised.

I THINK SO! :-) sounds Lovey, Pear, Violet, Basil and Jasmine had me intrigued in the best way! Though that bottle looks obscenely simple…. Maybe TOO Simple! Trepidatious here!!!!! :-)

I think I love it even more then my beloved Flowerbomb!! The pear, citron and basil!! To die for!! I adore basil but never thought Id like it in fragrance but I do! I really do!! The bottle is fine but Flowerbombs is 100x more wonderful. U have to push in the Megamizers sides to spray it which is kinda a pain but its ok, I still LOVE it!! I think ull enjoy it Robin!

I tried it today… it definitely has a ‘green’ accord which I found rather milky smelling; a bit like Omnia Jade (which is sour green-ed milk on me). It’s also floral-sweet and the pear is subtly present… it’s a classic “Department Store” perfume. It smells familiar (probably because so many others have similar notes) and definitely has that Department Store vibe going on. I don’t think anyone is missing out if they don’t try it, and it’s overpriced for what it is.

I like FlowerBomb – it’s one of my scented alternatives to eating sweets (which I don’t!) – and have the body cream, lotion and 3.4 EdP, and don’t see many FB wearers switching over.

Yeah thats really what bugged me the most about it too. Why would they think people would enjoy doing that? The Megamizer should have just had to be pushed down. And yeah, it took a while for the SA to make me a sample too. Other then that, I really like the bottle and packaging. : )
