Do I detect the faintest resemblance to a British accent?

Something, don’t know if British. But not Texas, that’s for sure.

I’ve never really heard him speak with a Texan accent, not even when he was younger. I’ve been a fan for many years and watched tons of interviews/materials, he’s pretty much always had this mixed accent. Maybe it’s because he’s spent so many years in Europe (Italy, France, etc) that it kind of wore off? Dunno, but this is the way he speaks. Or at least, I’ve never really heard any different so far.

I agree, not that I’ve heard him before….just that his accent sounds a little more eclectic in nature. I have lived in places with strong accents as well, and it is difficult to not pick it up….especially for a natural mimic…over the years you develop a strange mixture of vowel sounds, colloquialisms and syllable emphasis….people always ask where I’m from……..is it bad to say “outerspace” ?

I talk with a slight pseudo German accent sometimes.
People always ask me where I’m from and I’m like “Here…” (Virginia) so they ask me where my parents are from and I’m like “West Virginia” and they’re always ~*shocked*~ because I just seem so much like a European sophisticate.

I was thinking the exact same thing! Did he go to the same linguistic school as Madonna? He is still such a good spokesperson. He could sell firewood to people in hell. But the “…I’m more about sensuality than sex…” is contradicted by how far down his shirt is unbuttoned.

Just thinking that, bookgirl. I’d call that accent half-assed. Hope he does do women’s wear again, though. Guess his acting career didn’t pan out. And I do know the smell of Thuja wood firsthand, having visited Essouira in Morocco – I’m excited to find out what he did with it.

I liked it, woody and crisp from what I could detect in the miasma of Selfridges’ frenetic beauty hall. TF looks/sounds like Kevin Spacey’s younger brother, I thought!

No, no – I wasn’t there. Selfridges’ is bad enough at its quietest, never mind with Tom Ford flashing his chest for the squealing masses! Bois Marocain was on the shelves weeks before TF came to sign the bottles.

Wherever he’s from, he’s developing an inflection. When I lived in Georgia for eight years I started developing a slight southern accent. I wonder where he lives? He’s very handsome. Didn’t his last ad show a girl posing with one hand on her breast? That said sexuality to me NOT sensuality.

Yes, I like the philosophy and he didn’t seem nearly as “smug” as I’ve seen in pictures….of course I’m certain none of what he said was scripted….

I have 2 friends who met him in person and he’s actually very nice and polite, very courteous. Not smug at all. Shakes everyone’s hand and listens to what you have to say. They both liked him. Marketing is marketing and I can understand that. But Tom Ford the public person and the private person are 2 different things, at least that is what I think.

I also heard he’s a good boss too. Never yells or loses temper and treats people with respect.

He always seemed very professional to me. Impeccable products as well.

he seemed quite nice in the clip, and it’s true: who knows how many dozens of pictures they take and then who decides the one that gets put out in public…so it is unfair to say he’s smug based on just a couple of photos….goodness knows I wouldn’t want anyone to think anything about me after looking at a couple of pictures…egad!

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he turned out to be a nice guy. Wish I could remember what show I saw him on though, where he was so full of himself I literally couldn’t stand to watch…

I’ve always found hin slightly repellent – physically. Can’t tell whether it’s the tiny tiny black eyes, the Botoxed forehead or the smug expression. Haven’t changed my mind…

Bois Marocain sounds like something I would love.
I think I’ll have to make a point of sniffing it next time I’m at Heathrow, because I don’t know when else I’m going to get to smell it. *sigh*

I have to say, I have no idea what he said in that interview–I was so focused on the sudden-onset faux-British accent. :) I’d read everyone’s reviews of this before I got to hear it, so you’d think I’d have been prepared. I wasn’t. That’s really shocking.
