I don’t know why, but he does not appeal to me. In pictures, yes, but saw him on TV once and was quite turned off.

He’s got a big ego. I’m with you, Robin. All my guy friends love him, but I just don’t see it.

Daisy nails it below — he’s too smug.

Yup. I remember I adored him in the mid-90s when he took over at Gucci. He wasn’t quite so smug then and I kinda admired how good he was at PR. Ever since then, though, it’s like he tries to push dirty porno sex into every advertising campaign. Hmmm, another “s” word comes to mind – “smut”! :P

never seen him before now- and arrogance and smarminess are a quick way to become immediatly unattractive….

Even I’m not excited about Private Blend collection I would go to meet him if he comes in Philadelphia.

Is the PB collection sold anywhere in Philly? Maybe it’s at that Saks in the burbs, I don’t know.

Oh man – wish I could attend! I have two of his fragrances – White Patchouli and Black Orchid Voile de Fleur and I love them. They’re the only two I have tried so far but I plan to get around to all of them eventually. Plus – isn’t he a dish?! ;-)

good looking but smug. Okay, maybe he gets to be smug because he’s Tom Ford and he makes really expensive pefume…but personally, smug bothers me in a guy. So I guess that means he better not call me for a date! LOLOL

I’ve never seen him interviewed – so I haven’t had a glimpse of his personality. I was being strictly superficial and opining on his rugged good looks. hehe

LOL so as long as he keeps his mouth shut, it’ll be just fine….my daughter says the same thing about Orlando Bloom : “he’s so cute, if only he wouldn’t speak…”

I used to say that about Keanu Reeves. But now I’ve heard him speak (and seen him “act”) enough times that it can no longer be ignored. :D I could see that w/Orlando too…but he’s SO pretty. As for TF…nope. Maybe it’s the personality shining through his expression or something, not sure, but he does absolutely nothing for me.

          • Daisy says:
            4 June 2009 at 12:58 pm

oh, now Keanu Reeves…he’s definitely alright. I don’t think he’s really “handsome” but I like what I’ve seen of his personality and that makes him more attractive.

What about Robert Downey Jr ? So cute, beautiful eyes…but kind of a loser in other respects.

          • RusticDove says:
            4 June 2009 at 1:33 pm

Oh now Keanu – he has the most interesting lovely face imo. Plus The Matrix is one of my all time favorite movies – I’m still a geek in my old age I guess.
But – back to TF. Anyone who has a hand in developing such interesting perfumes can’t be all bad?! I agree that ‘smug’ is an awful trait – but ima gonna let him slide. lol

LOLOL too funny—but I wasn’t really THAT concerned about any imminent date requests from him…..besides I’m pretty sure my ultra-possessive, 6’3″ tough guy/former football jock hubby would run any date interference necessary….but it’s good to know I’m off the hook. (hahahhaha)

The word I have for him is another “s” word – smarmy.

I have yet to find a scent of his that appeals to me, although there are some that, of course, I can’t find anywhere I’ve looked that sound okay. I am very attracted to his men’s scent and need to try that on skin. But I almost wouldn’t want to buy any just because he’s so….
smarmy. Plus they are kinda spendy.

    He’s a great designer.
Calling him “smug” and “smarmy” are not respectful.

Everyone can say their opinion freely here whether it is respectful or not…that’s how it works. Same goes for allowing you to give your opinion on Alain Delon!

          HA!

For anyone who doesn’t know our comment policy, it’s pretty simple — you can say what you like about fragrance or public figures so long as your language is clean. You can’t always say what you like about other commenters — if you’re disrespectful to others, you get your comment deleted.

Someone…please…hit me with…a dead fish. I can’t believe it. It would be the ONE day I’m not in London. I would love to meet Mr. Ford and praise him for creating modern classics. Oh, well…

He’s there from 5.30-6.30? One hour?!? The place will be MOBBED! I don’t think I could cope with that. I do, however, like the sound of a new PB! I really enjoy smelling that range. Morrocan Wood sounds lush. I enjoyed Oud Wood so much, and Purple Patchouli – and his Tuscan Leather and Tobacco Vanille are delish.

His appearance at Harvey Nicks is on youtube, if anyone wants to see. I expect he’ll do a similar thing at Selfridges. I don’t know the first thing about him other than that clip, but he seems like a nice guy!

That was fun! He did seem fairly gracious. Okay, maybe he;s not sooo bad. But he still is a little smarmy – I think it’s partly that open shirt thing.

The one I really want to find is Tobacco Vanille.

Thanks for posting that. I thought he seemed very cool, sweet even. Though he does have a penchant for unbuttoning his shirts down to ‘there’, doesn’t he? haha Those ‘apothocary’ influenced PB bottles drive me to distraction. LOL
