Chanel Allure Homme Edition Blanche ~ new fragrance

Posted by Robin on 27 February 2008 37 Comments

Chanel Allure Homme Edition Blanche fragranceChanel will launch Allure Homme Edition Blanche, a new "white" version of 1998's Allure Homme, in March:

The crisp and clean, warm and sexy scent boasts a new modern character driven by design.

The new fragrance was developed by Chanel house perfumer Jacques Polge, and features four facets: the fresh facet (lemon, bergamot), the woody facet (cedar), the oriental facet (sandalwood, tonka bean, white musk, vetiver, ginger, amber, vanilla) and the spicy facet (white pepper, pink pepper).

Chanel Allure Homme Edition Blanche will be available in 50 and 100 ml Eau de Toilette Concentrée. (quote via chanel, additional information via dzfashion.com, beautyspion.de, www.gala.fr)

Other recent launches from Chanel: Allure Homme Sport Cologne Sport, No. 5 Eau Premiere.

This will probably turn out to be a very good fragrance, only the third facet seems so sweet to me. Then maybe men's frags are changing to sweeter ones?

I haven't smelled it so don't know how sweet it is, but certainly “sweet” is a growing trend on the men's counter.

This 'sweetness' might make it more accessible to women. Alltogether as a woman I will go and try this for myself too.

At least the sweetness has nothing to do with candy.

I really, really like it. I don't think it's too sweet at all. In fact, I brought some samples home for my 9 year old boy. lol

Does anyone else here think that white pepper smells weird? Not bad, just weird. Mostly when heated as a spice, but in its regular state as well. I wonder how the white pepper in this fragrance works.

Come to think of it, I don't know why we have it… just the testers and carded samples. Probaby it was supposed to be held back til March, but we opened it anyway. :)

Hmmm. Somehow, don't think I'll be able to tell the difference between white pepper & black pepper in a fragrance. Might well be the same aroma chemical, for that matter.

I'm pretty sure I couldn't tell them apart, either, but they aren't exactly the same. The peppercorn is actually the seed of a fruit. (The seed is proportionately large: the fruit is scarcely more than a thin skin around the seed.) White pepper is made by allowing the fruit to rot away in standing water, after which the seeds are cleaned and dried, while black pepper is made by drying the whole fruit in the sun (after a brief cooking to rupture the fruit's cell walls), during which time a fungus turns the fruit pulp black.

The dried fruit adds elements to the flavour of black pepper, but the white pepper is fermented during the decomposition process, which creates other flavour molecules. So they aren't quite the same thing, as you can see.

In other news: the Edition Blanche bottle is gorgeous. Gorgeous! I wonder if what's inside smells good.

All quite true so far as “real” pepper goes, but that doesn't mean they are actually using separate “black” and “white” pepper in the fragrance — it could all be one synthetic that smells “peppery” and they've included the white pepper reference to link back to the “Edition Blanche”.

Pyramus, I love what you just explained to us. Could it be a reason why there is almost always a peppermill on the table with black pepper corns?

So it is a 4-facet Chanel fragrance and that says to me: “go and try it ;)” ;-D !! If not for me then a for sure for a man who is very dear to me.

    Actually, it's a cologne.

I thought it was something like Fleur Du Male or Fahrenheit 32, with the white / orange flower trend for men. But no.

    Finally, it's very hesperidic aromatic.

    Fresh but not lasting.

To my nose, if this helps anyone place the scent. white pepper (and, presumably, its synthetic twin) has an almost nutmeg-like note.

I cant wait to try it on but on the other hand I am a little sick and tired of this “sequels”. Summer version, sport version, dark version, white version… too much if you ask me.

It reminds me of the movies, the keep coming up with remakes of old tv series or movies and second parts. That kills the excitement , at least to me, and it does it in great extent.

I tend to never buy the summer or sport versions of original fragrances , in this case, since Allure is one that I truly enjoyed I will give it a try,

    all the best

It is true, I was kind of surprised to see this since they just did “Allure Homme Sport Cologne Sport” last year. But still, Chanel does WAY fewer flankers than other brands. They did 3 last year, and for them, that was a lot, still, YSL probably did more than 10.

I was also surprised when I read in this blog about the new “allure”. But if you think about most brands are milking the cow to the maximum with their most successful fragrances.

How many Poison by Dior there are? Issey Miyake?

If it getting harder and harder to find something truly special under the sun, if you know what I mean.

Robin, where's that post where everyone was suggesting names for new Poison flankers? It was priceless, and I can imagine Sharky would get a kick out of it.

I am sure you guys came with some fine names.

By the way I was reading Kevin´s review on the Kouros for man and…. wow… very hard one. I should feel somehow offended for two reasons, because I adore Kouros and because I am from Europe but I am not, it was fun to read.

I have it now, and I tasted it this morning, WOW, it has nothing to do with the original Allure only somewhere at the end the basis are the same, very spicy at the begginig, with some accords of citrus or something fresh, than a sweet note that gave a wonderful well defined ALLURE. The first notes are a mixture of Allure Sport and Allure Cologne, but than a different story, I'm going to buy it, 50ml 51E.

It's here in Nordstrom and selling well. I spent a little time with it today and I quite like it. The pepper and lemon and bergamot are pronounced in the opening, and the meerest hint of sweetness comes later. I was working with a customer that strongly dislikes gourmands, patchouli, sandalwood and 'anything sweet' and he thought this was the perfect scent for him. Go figure. lol

Hard to say. Sometimes that means they never sold out their original production run, sometimes it means it did so well they made more.
