The signal’s gone…

Posted by Robin on 22 January 2008 11 Comments

A photo shoot for Burberry's upcoming fragrance, The Beat. No voice-overs, so you'll learn nothing about the scent itself.

The model is Agyness Deyn, the music is Shy Child's Drop The Phone.

The style of the ad campaign reminds me of CK one. Not particularly orginal IMHO.

Yeah, but more “fun”, less “grunge”.

'Course, it's all eye candy — image, energy, beauty — and all about selling the sizzle, not the steak, but I admit that I DO like the sizzle!

I can't think of a more effective way to convey how far away from staid and sturdy trenchcoats the Burberry name is becoming. Anges is lovely in a very modern and original way, she's obviously workin' hard for the money. . .hey, I like it! The juice, of course, will be left to us perfumistas to judge on its own merits.

Yes. Brit was a good start image-wise, this should finish the job.

I'm so looking forward to sniffing this, but the notes read like something Penhaligon's would do. So different from the image they're going for!

I'll be interested in testing this; I like the Burburrys, except for their slightly excessive, sweetie-grunge drydown. This sounds different from the others, though.

As for the vid: It's almost a parody—does anyone else find the posturing kind of silly? I'm sure it'll communicate lots of angst and ennui in print form…but like other things, it pays not to watch the butcher prepare the meat.

That's true. I hope it will have more energy than the Penhaligon's.

Way silly! But these kinds of “behind the scenes” are always silly, I think. The print ad itself is cute, and looks nicely unstudied (you'd never guess all that went into it, as usual).

Finally got to watch this. Man, it took an army to get that done! The music was kind of grating, but that could be just cause I'm in mellow mode right now. So far I've liked everything I've tried from Burberry so I'm excited to try the new one too! Mostly I really want a super long Burberry plaid scarf – it was so cute!

Whew, I agree — it wore me out just watching it. Hope The Beat will be worth smelling 🙂
