What if…

Posted by Robin on 14 January 2007 8 Comments

It is hard to imagine a great contemporary artist being enslaved to a giant corporation that vetted and constrained their output. What if Mark Rothko or David Hockney were contracted to a conservative software giant and allowed to produce only what might appeal to its millions of customers? But that is what it is like to be a “nose” in commercial perfumery today.

— Columnist Bethan Cole, in an article in today's UK Times Online about the upcoming Les Exclusifs de Chanel fragrances by perfumer Jacques Polge.

I'm glad to see you only quoted a tiny bit of the article: you won't be threatened with the police, as I was last night on MUA. LOL!

I'm also glad you didn't call it 'very interesting': no one will tell you it's in fact 'silly'. LOL!

See…all you had to do is complain, LOL…

On the reposting of the article, well, the commenter wasn't very polite and it was not her business to butt in, but as someone who spends a fair amount of time dealing with online content theft, I'm afraid I do have some sympathy, and it has nothing to do with whether or not people see the ads at the Times or not.

Interestingly enough, both Basenotes and POL have instituted copyright policies where the moderators will remove content that violates copyright (and both are actually enforcing their own policies), but MUA has not.

    Yes, well, that'll teach me.

Considering that that person hotlinks every pic she (I actually thinks it's a man) posts, I think it was a bit much.

Did you go and read some of his/her posts on the Café board? Really 'interesting'.

Completely agree it was “a bit much”, so hope you don't think I'm defending anybody! And hotlinkers make me nuts too. But NOT going to the Cafe, not for anything ;-)

I know how you feel about the Café – not in a million years. LOL! I only visited, a few days ago, because the same person had posted something that sounded 'off' on the Frag Board and I thought, 'Hang on a mo, who *is* this?' And I saw.
