Anna Sui Romantica ~ fragrance review
I’ve always had a weakness for Anna Sui‘s playful, decorative perfume bottle designs, and Romantica is no exception. It’s an ombré pink creation with swirling floral motifs inspired by Art Nouveau design, with a gilt flower-bud cap that reminds me just a tiny bit of some vintage Lanvin Arpège bottles. The new fragrance inside, meanwhile, was developed by perfumer Steven DeMercado. Its “sparkling floral” composition features top notes of bergamot, mandarin, pomegranate and quince; heart notes of rose de Mai, osmanthus, jasmine, orange blossom, water lily and peony; and base notes of cedarwood, amber, sandalwood and musk.
Romantica falls about midway along the spectrum of Anna Sui’s floral scents to date…
Four quick reviews: Bobbi Brown Bed, Ed Hardy Skulls & Roses, Nicole by Nicole Richie, Jessica Simpson Vintage Bloom
In my continuing (hopeless!) effort to catch up on the 2012 releases before 2013, some very quick reviews: Bobbi Brown Bed, Ed Hardy Skulls & Roses, Nicole by Nicole Richie, Jessica Simpson Vintage Bloom. Do feel free to add your own quick reviews of recent(ish) releases in the comments!
Bobbi Brown Bed
Bobbi Brown Bed is a web-only limited edition, and it’s basically just a mixture of neroli, orange flower and jasmine in a cute (but small!) glass bottle. If you like all three notes and are after something simple, it might appeal — I found it very pleasant, with a bright but calming aspect that does, in fact, work well for bedtime. It’s also balanced enough, with perhaps a tilt towards the neroli, that it would work for either gender. Do bear in mind that it’s an oil, so it stays relatively close to the skin. If you want something similar but heavier on the jasmine (and with more oomph in general), try Rodin Olio Lusso Perfume…
Nicole by Nicole Richie ~ new perfume
Nicole Richie will launch Nicole by Nicole Richie in September. The new fragrance for women is being introduced under licensing arrangements with TPR Holdings, and was reportedly “inspired by the layered scents her mother wore when Nicole was a child”…
Quick sniffs: Vince Camuto, Miller Harris La Fumee, BCBG Max Azria
In my usual attempt to clear out the docket before the end of the year, here are some quick reviews: Vince Camuto, Miller Harris La Fumée, BCBG Max Azria.
Vince Camuto
Vince Camuto’s eponymous debut fragrance was made by Parlux, the same folks who’ve brought you fragrances by Paris Hilton and Jessica Simpson — but before any of you anti-celebrity-fragrance perfumistas turn your noses up (pardon the pun), they also did the lovely Natori fragrance. The Vince Camuto is a floral chypre, in the modern (yes, it’s really an oriental) style, with a fruity top and a lightly spicy, sweet floral heart over a subtle leather and clean patchouli dry down. It turns drier and almost-smoky near the end. It does not, as it turns out, rival Natori (it’s in Macy’s instead of Saks, and in this case, it all fits) but it’s nicely done. If you’re looking for a sweet-ish, middle-weight oriental for winter and don’t want to cough up the dough for Natori, it’s worth a shot…
