From Parfums de Marly, Delina in a limited edition collector bottle: "Inspired by the floral motifs in 18th-century interiors, a climbing rose evokes Nature's way of prevailing, whether the flower overtakes the bottle or blossoms when worn. At the heart of this eau de parfum is the Damascena rose, the most noble of them all, blossoming upon contact with the skin and imprinting its distinctive signature. Elevated by notes of lychee and enveloped in vanilla and white musk." $385 for 75 ml Eau de Parfum at Saks.
Ellis Brooklyn Miami Nectar ~ new perfume
NY-based niche brand Ellis Brooklyn will launch Miami Nectar, a new fragrance for women…
Monday scent of the day 4/15
It’s Monday and World Art Day, National Anime Day, the Universal Day of Culture, plus Leonardo da Vinci’s birthday. If you’re in the US, it’s also Tax Day. RIP Roberto Cavalli. And a quick PSA: the swapmeet will open for business on Saturday! What fragrance are you wearing?
On one arm, I’ve got the tiniest dab (it’s almost gone) of CB I Hate Perfume On A Clear Day You Can See Forever for the spring bulb connection. On the other, CB I Hate Perfume M #2 Black March because I forgot to wear it last month.
Reminder: on 4/19, we’re off to the Netherlands…
Why odor memories are so evocative
[Sandeep Robert] Datta, whose HMS lab studies how animals use senses to understand the world around them, says that neuroscience has revealed the mechanisms behind odor’s power to spur memory — a power with evolutionary origins. Our ancient ancestors relied on smell to build maps of their surroundings and remember where they’d been. “You can think of the original brain as being a sense of smell plus a sense of navigation plus a sense of memory,” Datta says. “That explains why all those structures are so intimately connected, and why odor memories are so evocative.”
