Wednesday scent of the day 7/8

Posted by Robin on 8 July 2026 104 Comments

It’s Hump Day and Math 2.0 Day. A quick reminder that Donatella will drop by tomorrow! Birthdays: Louis Jordan, Billy Eckstine, Elisabeth Kübler-Ross, Anjelica Huston. What fragrance are you wearing?

Me: lime points, in Diptyque Oyedo.

Reminder: on 7/10, wear a perfume with a lime note, if you have one.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2026, where I'll occasionally manage to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Lime is the only notes not in my SOTD: it’s Fleur de Cassie. Started out nice and clean and fragrant but had to use whippersnipper and now there’s a font hint of 2 cycle oil.

I love this picture, Robin: that lime is the juciest one I’ve ever seen. Hope you’re still on vacation and you do smell fabulous.

it’s a motor oil-you use it in lawn mowers, whipper snipper, boats. It’s aromatic and the smell really clings to me 🙂

Up and at ‘em early today to get errands done before the heat gets to “scorch” levels. Planning on stopping by BBW here in town to see if they have the new fruit collection…I’m curious about both the banana and watermelon scents. I do have some confessions to make to Dear Donatella this go round, but I’m trying not to beat myself up over it. It’s been a long while since I purchased any scented products…

Back in Devotion from my travel spray. No lime in sight, but I’m still in the citrus family, no? I’m feeling perfectly summery in a white tee and orange (also citrus adjacent!) striped linen-blend beach pants, with my metallic crocs getaway strappy sandals, a coral and gold beaded bracelet I made a few years ago, my crystal ball ring, and pink sunglasses. I feel so good I may take myself on a date for lunch. I’m ridiculous! 🤣

Hope everyone has a great day!

Okay, I got very fruity today! Although my local BBW didn’t have all the specific items in the fruit lineup, they did have a representation of each of the scents in one form or another.

      –
      1) Banana- what you’d expect. A candy sweet banana. Not a fresh one and not a green one. A vey sweet candy banana and I loved it. I passed because I really wanted the body wash to go with the lotion. They hadn’t stocked that yet, just lotion and body spray today.

      2) Watermelon- meh. Not what I was hoping for. A very bland watermelon and it doesn’t have that cooling kinda crisp smell that real watermelons have. I guess you could say it was similar to a jolly rancher candy, but toned way down.

      3) Tangerine- nice, but I would’ve preferred a juicy peach. Not something I’m interested in smelling like because I don’t really get a citrus vibe from it at all.

      4) Berry- not for me. I found it unbearably synthetic and harsh.

YMMV! They do have cute accessories and tiny sizes of the body spray if you just want to dip your toes in the fruit salad, instead of diving into it.

I tried them today too, and agree with you. The banana is fun and reminds me of Runts candy. I am mostly interested in the tangerine and will be watching for a sale.

Hoping I don’t get the squirts now!I even flirted with get a manicure but decided I really need to do that myself to maintain some semblance of flexibility. 🤣 Also, got to try all the Bon Bon perfumes at Ulta. Nothing was a love or even a strong like so money saved. I thought I might fall for the cola one but nope, not for me.

    Hello.
Sotd is Miss Dior Essence. It’s the first thing I saw.
I just realised lime is in much more perfumes than I thought, sometimes in perfumes that are not even citrusy or particularly bright!
This cat is so adorable and I do think he understands everything: https://youtu.be/qdtF7WO8akI?si=wkn1sv7zxsHs58Vj

I’m happily wearing Fils de Dieu, which someone kindly mentioned the other day as having lime. (Sorry, I’ve forgotten who, but thank you!). It’s a good refreshing scent. I think I do have one more with lime in my collection, so I’ll save that until Friday.

Feeling a tiny bit virtuous here because I have been cleaning out some big messes in my jewelry box (I’m in need of sorting, downsizing, maybe some reselling here and there), and also in my bathroom cabinets. How is it that I can make everything so neat and orderly and it all goes to whack within a few weeks? I’m trying extra hard this time to throw out, re-home, donate, and truly get things more manageable.

The currently spreading epidemic of cyclosporiasis is making me nervous, mainly for my family in Michigan, but also because it is now appearing in other states including Texas. I have been eating a lot of good raspberries lately but they’re thought to be a possible culprit (because their little bumps can harbor bacteria) and now I’m paranoid about all kinds of veggies and fruits. Are others hearing of cases near you? It sounds extremely nasty, and my poor aunt is 85, thin and frail, so I’m especially worried about her.

      From the CDC:

“However, as of July 2025, the CDC made tracking cyclospora optional, as part of scaling back its Foodborne Diseases Active Surveillance Network. At the time, food safety experts worried that it could make it harder to identify and respond to outbreaks.”

If you’re very concerned, even after good hand hygiene and washing your produce, avoid eating fresh fruits and veggies unless they’re cooked. A raspberry cobbler or crisp is delicious. All berries have historically been considered “dirty” fruit. Outbreaks by this particular bug happen every year, but this year is especially bad, probably because we are no longer funding the FDA to track it so it’s gotten out of hand and the source is still unknown, again because it’s not being tracked and the personnel doing that kind of work for governmental agencies has been stripped to bare bones. It’s treated with an antibiotic if you happen to begin having symptoms. But if you’re “paranoid” about it, just avoid fresh fruits/veggies and instead find creative recipes that allow you to cook them in a manner which you still find enjoyable, with the realization that this summer is just not a good summer for raw fruits and veggies. 🤷‍♀️

Thank you for this informative post, Deva. I regret to say that before I’d started reading so much about it I did buy some nice fresh strawberries and a couple of veggies…. I will indeed cook the vegetables and this morning I ventured to eat some of the berries after serious washing. I do worry about my elderly (even mores than me!) family members in Michigan. On the plus side, my uncle still gardens, and so it’s likely that what they’re eating is their own stuff.

I think the biggest difficulty with this bug is the long incubation period, which makes it very hard to track to a specific food/place/company. Who the heck remembers what and where they ate 2 weeks ago? Not me.

Thanks for posting this information. I adore berries and lots of leafy green salads, raw veggies of every color, but I’m severely immune compromised (I have Crohn’s, PSC, and Celiac), at 59, food contamination is of major concern.
I guess I’ll back off or cook my greens for the immediate future.

I have donated to some friends who actually take supplies over there fairly often (things for children and schools, and battery packs for ambulances), but I worry so much about the animals. I feel good because I know these people and that the aid dollars go straight there.
Do you know of any groups or organizations that I could donate to in order to help feed homeless animals or people who need help with feeding their own pets?

Thank you so much for helping people here.

I think at the moment many Ukrainian animal protection groups are focused on rescuing abandoned animals from war zones, supporting shelters, and providing food and veterinary care.

UAnimals is probably the biggest and best-known Ukrainian animal welfare organization. They rescue animals from frontline areas and also run fundraisers for food, evacuation, treatment, and shelter support:
        https://uanimals.org/en/raise-funds/

United for Animals may also be a good option, especially if you are specifically looking to help with food and basic supplies for homeless animals and shelters:
        https://united4animals.com/en/golovna-english/

There is also Oleksii Surovtsev, a Ukrainian actor and animal rescuer who has been saving animals from war-affected areas. He posts about his work here:
        https://www.threads.com/@surovtsev.alexei

And there is a shelter in my town that always needs money for pet food, vet bills, repairs, and other urgent needs. For example, recently they were raising money to repair damage caused by a storm. I don’t see any bank details that people outside Ukraine could use, but I’ll ask them and will share the information if they have a convenient way to donate from abroad.

    Hi all 👋
Wearing the classic CK One today because I’m home, it’s so fleeting that I spritz on a little more every time I walk past the bottle. It’s got every citrus fruit listed except lime; there are “green notes” listed, maybe lime is in there? It smells really good, regardless. My bottle is really old, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s original, from the 90s.

I don’t know, I just assume it’s been reformulated a few times, like everything else from that time. I really like the bottle I have but I wouldn’t seek out another one. It wears like a cologne and I prefer something that lasts a little longer.

I’m cheater-pantsing my way through this week and today’s scent is Tilleuil d’Orsay Friction de Nuit, (tilleuil = linden = lime in Europe and the UK) from a big vintage splash bottle I found on my travels years ago. Which reminds me I should make another big decant for my sister who loves linden Not sure what ‘friction de nuit’ is supposed to mean. Do you wear it to the boudoir? It’s so fresh and floral and pretty, it seems more suited to afternoon picnics on the grass eating finger sandwiches and wearing flowing white dresses.

SOTD is Yves Rocher Eau de Juillet, which seems appropriate since this is July. No lime listed in the notes, but it does have orange and lemon, so close enough, right? It is very refreshing in the heat.

Gah, what an annoying day today has been! I’m just going to sit in a corner and fume for a little while until I get over it. Nothing serious, just dumb 💩. Some of it was self-inflicted, so that’s another burr under my saddle.

OTOH, the air quality has improved markedly here, so that’s A Good Thing. I could easily see the mountains this afternoon before the typical thunderstorms and showers moved in.

Looks like Chanel Paris-Deauville has lime in it, so between that and No. 5 L’Eau, I will be set for Friday. Might be a coin toss or a die roll to determine which one I wear.

SOTD = commando. Too grumpy to wear perfume.

Hope you will feel happier soon. Glad it’s nothing too serious. You may not feel up to it but do something small but nice for yourself, like an ice cream. Nobody can be angry over that, right? 🙂

I do have some Haagen-Dazs ice cream bars in the freezer, now that you mention it. Hmmmmmmmm.

I hope your feeling better after a good night’s sleep Jalapeno.
I didn’t realize L’eau had a lime note. I’ve been going through samples trying to find something for Friday.

IDK if sleep will help with me being annoyed. Past experience tells me that I just need to accept my current emotional state and let it fade on its own. My brother is like that, too.

Aurora was the person who clued me in about No. 5 L’Eau. Hat tip to her!

Glad it’s nothing serious but I hate that feeling of being annoyed with myself. I’ve done some doozers at times. Being a Virgo, I’m the most hard on myself (as I expect perfection, which is ridiculous, I know).

Thanks for the info on Chanel L’eau! I think I have a bit left somewhere.

Not at all a Virgo, but all too familiar with perfectionist tendencies. I think it is a family trait for me.

I slept very poorly last night. I took a short nap but it just made me feel worse. Naps do that sometimes.
I went to BBW and tested the new fruit collection. It was all very fun. I will probably end up with the tangerine shower gel.
The banana one smells like runts candy. There is also a new Cafe collection. There is an almond croissant one that is delicious smelling. My official sotd is Laura Mercier Almond Coconut. I can still smell it over all the other stuff I sprayed today.

Either I missed that Cafe collection or the store here hasn’t stocked it yet. I will keep my eyes peeled. They did have some Halloween themed things out as well as general fall items. Hard to get excited for those when it’s supposed to be 104F this weekend…🥵
Hope you have a good, deep coma-like sleep tonight and awake bright eyed and bushy tailed in the morning!

It wasn’t a very big display compared to the Halloween and fruit one’s.
There is also a cinnamon pumpkin and caramel vanilla.
Thanks for the good sleep wishes. I had a sleep paralysis episode last night and now I’m nervous about falling asleep tonight.

I hope you get a decent night’s sleep tonight lillyjo.

I used to LOVE Runts candy! Pretty sure my palate would not care for it at all these days though. A lot of things I once liked are now too sweet for me.

I loved runts too, Especially the cherry.
I don’t dare try and eat them now.

I can’t believe I ate Hostess Twinkies as a kid. The mere thought of them makes me gag now. 🤢

My favorite Runts flavor was the orange. 🍊

You smell great! I still kick myself for not getting the Laura Mercier frags when I had the chance(s).

Is the BBW almond quite scented? I may have to blindbuy it when there’s a sale; it’s not easy to get in store for me so I have been known to take a chance on a few things. The banana sounds quite fun!

The almond croissant smells exactly like the pastry. The almond is pretty prominent.

I was lime – adjacent today in Loves Fresh Lemon. I noticed that the sprayer is a bit stuck; I can get 1 spray out, then a couple of dribbles. It’s probably 10 years old so it doesn’t owe me anything. I’ll see if I can fix it somehow. It’s more of a memory scent than anything for me.

Then after another beach afternoon, I used a Lush Guardian of the Forest scrub (which contains lime) to remove all the sunscreen.I found my Lush Go Green solid perfume to apply, afterwards, but this doesn’t contain lime, even though it smells like it should.

Like others, it’s been too warm for perfume so I’ve been wearing lotions or a random body spray once in a while to keep things fresh. Hope everyone is staying cool and hydrated.

Have you tried soaking the sprayer nozzle in hot water?

If that fails, maybe some Everclear or rubbing alcohol would work.
