It's Tuesday and the last day of June. Also, Asteroid Day and Lena Horne’s birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?
I am on the road today, heading off on vacation. Posting, which is usually pretty random and haphazard, will be even more random and haphazard for the rest of the week. I'm in a light spritz of Hermès Eau de Néroli Doré; with luck it will carry me up the New Jersey Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway and straight over the Tappan Zee with no backups. It's been known to happen!
Reminder: 7/3 is Independence Day weekend in the US. Celebrate by declaring your own independence from whatever no longer serves you, and mark the occasion with the appropriate fragrance.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2026, where I'll occasionally manage to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Wrenna teapot from Bloomingville ("...a unique teapot shaped like a fish, made of stoneware. With a handle made of natural material, you can safely serve tea to yourself and your guests. An ideal gift for tea lovers or as a decorative element in your kitchen or summer house") is €95 (and would be a nice match with Missy).
Happy Tuesday Morning to you, NST!
Today I’m testing Keiko Mecheri’s Canyon Dreams and am enjoying its resinous thick labdanum amber spicy patchy notes and cheap Boone’s Farm fruit wine vibe. It evokes 1960s/70s bohemian singer-songwriter Lauren Canyon to me. I need to explore more of her fragrances. I’ve heard that many of them are clones of Lutens fragrances (from before clones became a thing) and in truth they often share similar names, but they are generally well made using good raw materials. This one seems unique and I can’t think of a Lutens analogue.
Hello.
Sotd is TF Figue Érotique.
You know how sometimes you get a yearning for some fragrance that you wore yesteryear? Since this past weekend I have had this feeling for Clarin’s Eau Dynamisante. Funny thing is, I don’t even recall exactly how it smells, just that I really want it on my skin. Ridiculous I know!
Good morning, everyone! The last day of June? Wow. That was fast.
I’m in Barénia, from Hermès, and I can’t quite make up my mind about it – sometimes I find the dry down lovely and calming, (the way I do with many of the Jardin collection,) and sometimes it exhausts me. The berry note is very persistent.
Someone – maybe it was Persolaise – described it as a grown-up Twilly, and I think that’s right. It’s certainly interesting, which is admirable in this day and age.
Have a great day, folks!
SOTM is Chanel no. 5 extrait from a vintage-ish bottle. I got it second hand, so I don’t know its exact age. It is beautiful, and it is one of the fragrances that started my love of perfume in my early childhood.
No 5 extrait is wonderful but what is currently being offered is a 1 ounce bottle for $475.
Today is the first day of temps in the 90’s. Last night we turned on the AC. Since I am going to work today, it’s Infusion d’iris. Still trying to figure out which perfumes to take for my trip. The travel spray options are Infusion d’iris, BDK Gris Charnel. The full bottle options are Jicky or no 19.
No 19 and Jicky get my vote
Sipping Nocturne Oriental from Mariage Frères and feeling the effects of staying up far too late cheering on Morocco. I still can’t believe Hakimi hit the post on that penalty! He hit the post a lot that game, almost on every corner kick…
The heat wave has put horseback riding on hold this week :(, so today it’s tea, air conditioning, and Melograno as my SOTD.
Wearing Devotion from my disappearing travel spray. Would like to use this up over the next few weeks.
I went to the Museum of Geology yesterday and was absolutely wowed by the phosphorescent rock display. Nature never fails to amaze me! Some Dinos on display as well as a ton of other fossils. Nothing better on a hot day than an air conditioned museum. For the first time ever, I got the senior discount entry fee without anyone asking for an ID. The 12 year old at the counter must have thought I was as old as the fossils on display. 🤣
