It’s Hump Day and Earth Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Hermès Kelly Caleche, launched in 2007 while Gaultier was still creative director at Hermès. I don't know if he had anything to do with the ad campaign, but it is widely acknowledged he had injected a subtle humor — just a whisper — into the brand's DNA since he came on board in 2003, and certainly he had featured riding crops and whips as fashion accessories on the runway.
Reminder: on 4/24, celebrate Jean Paul Gaultier's birthday by wearing one of his fragrances. If you don't have one, wear anything that you think works with the JPG aesthetic, or maybe a fragrance that you'd put in a torso-shaped bottle? Or, as usual, be as creative and/or farfetched as you like with the theme. And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2026, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Love the picture – especially the bottle held by the whip. Creative!
Today I picked this dress, designed by JPG and worn by Chappell Roan: https://www.instagram.com/p/DFnDyXAowfK/?img_index=2
I love the whole look, including the makeup and the dried flower decoration (corsage?).
It made me think of Misia, so that’s what I’m wearing today. Although after tulipani’s comment yesterday about chicken, I can’t help seeing baby chickens when I look at this dress. 😂
Hello.
Sotd is CH La Bomba. Tropical parfait and so delicious. The bottle is very cute but it’s so hard to hold and spritz properly without risking dropping it. Functionality 2/5. 😐
I have always loooved this ad since day 1. It captures the scent and message *perfectly* and the colour of the sky, ugh so good.
I love this ad, too-I think it helped my enjoy the matching fragrance.
In Hermes today-Apres la Mousson. I know lots of people hate the melon note but I love it. Really love this fragrance. And I bought the new Hermes bronzer. It was a huge splurge but we only live once (maybe). It’s special and I’ll enjoy it-have no big travel plans for the summer. The beaches here are so beautiful I can’t imagine being anywhere else. There is one small store close to a particularly beautiful beach and the outside is deceiving. Inside they stock a huge amount of Italian products-pasta and sauces and soaps and olive oil. Reminded me to not judge a book by its cover.
Wonderful creative ad! Great choice, Robin. I don’t follow fashion, and I had no idea that JPG was creative director for Hermes! The ancient hallowed house and the bad boy. Fascinating idea, whoever approved that one. Which means we can all wear Hermes again this week!
But I was also thinking of JPG as one of fashion’s iconoclasts which led me to another such figure – Alexander McQueen, so that’s who I’m wearing, since they were brothers in fashion arms. My SOTD is McQueen, which came out after McQueen’s sad death, and is actually somewhat tame by his standards, but wonderfully wrought: notes of jasmine and other white florals, dark inkiness, spices, slight animalics, pepper. Leather isn’t listed as a note but the fragrance is wrapped in it like a ribbon, which also fits in with today’s photo and the theme.
