Tuesday scent of the day 4/14

Posted by Robin on 14 April 2026 89 Comments

It's Tuesday, plus Pan American Day, National Dolphin Day and Loretta Lynn's birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in good old Hermès Un Jardin Sur Le Nil. Tea at the moment is a blend of Upton Keemun, Kusmi Violette, Art of Tea Rose Black and cacao husk, inspired by a Fortnum & Mason tea that happy888cat mentioned over the weekend.

Reminder: on 4/17, wear a fragrance by Hermès, OR something from perfumer Jean-Claude Ellena OR Christine Nagel (this is a repeat from 2014).

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2026, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: the Natures Marines ("Sun-brightened corals and seaweed shimmering with cool water compose the oceanic garden of the new Natures Marines tableware collection") teapot from Hermès is $1130.

    Hello.
Sotd is Dusita Light of Bangkok. Fresh, bright and beautiful. Citrusy, lemongrassy, with a soft sandalwood orris base. Downside is it’s very fleeting, like an edc and it’s light, sillage of about 10cm.

I was just reading about this, happy888cat.

Does it remind you of the Mandarin Oriental?

My sister and I stay there in when we go to Bangkok and it does smell lovely when you step inside.

It does remind me a lot of the Mandarin Oriental.
You know how they scent the air and cold towels with lemongrass and jasmine? The same core is present in this perfume. The sandalwood base brings forth the imagery of the wooden furniture and elements around the hotel. Finally the delicate airiness is perfectly elegant, like the gentle colour palette and ambience around the hotel.

Looking forward to wearing some Hermès later this week.

I’m continuing my dive into rarely-worn perfumes in my Amouage collection. Over the weekend, I wore Imitation (Woman) and Bracken (Woman,) both of which I admire. They’re bold, strange, compelling, and tenacious, which is really refreshing in a fragrance world which usually plays it safe. Good for Amouage. I don’t reach for these often – they demand a lot of the wearer – but every now and then I’m up for something weird.

Today I’m in Figment (Man,) which also presents challenges, but I really should wear this more frequently. It has a similar civet/feral cat vibe as Ma Bête from Eris, (another one I love.)

Happy Tuesday, everyone! (And for my fellow Los Angelenos, is this not the most glorious morning?)

It’s a bit dim and drippy here, so to warm myself up the tea of the moment is another London Fog and the scent choice is Amber Narguilé. An interesting combination — not quite as eye-rollingly heavenly as with Palisander the other day, but the apple-pie fruitiness of AN blends nicely with the bergamot in the tea.

Thanks for the idea, SheriG. I have gotten my Ambre Narguile out and I will wear it tonight as I do love love it from beginning to end (there are some musks in the drydown that really work for me, which isn’t always the case) and I find it cozy and fits in kind of OK with what we’re watching on TV as well – Twin Peaks (the original). Special Agent Dale Cooper likes his cherry pie and Ambre Narguile has the apple pie note that you mentioned. I love almost any fruit pie way more than cake.

Inspired by Daniel I’ve been going through my Amouage perfumes recently and today I’m wearing Bracken woman. I find this one can be a bit overpowering if sprayed too heavily but is beautiful when sprayed lightly. That’s true for many of the stronger Amouage perfumes, I think. I tended to wear too many sprays and would find the perfumes disconcerting. Bracken is nice in autumn when the leaves are falling and the air is crisp, as it seems to harmonise with the smell of leaf mulch and heavy dew.

We had a blowy front come through overnight so it’s quite breezy and cool today with a lot of clouds. We’ll be lucky to get out of the 50’s. There is some bright blue on the horizon so I’m hopeful for some sun. 🌞

Watching my mail bounce around Utah at the moment. Kind of like watching tennis or ping pong. It keeps circling and circling, landing, sitting a few days, taking flight, traveling in a larger circle only to end up right back in Provo. And this is mail that was returned to my mail forwarding service because the last time I had it forwarded to me in Arizona it arrived a week after the stated delivery day and I had to move on by that point. Hope the same thing doesn’t happen again because I’m headed north in a couple of days.🤪

Wearing L’Artisan Saffron Troublant from the old school bottle with the gold cap that’s so heavy you could knock someone out with it. I bought this years ago, maybe right before packaging changes because I have a huge bottle of it, which I would never buy unless I got some kind of crazy good deal on it. Anyway, if anyone ever needs a decant hit me up because the vat I have will never be fully utilized.

    Happy Tuesday!

Very warm here with dire warnings for severe weather later today that ‘could’ happen, not sure what time. Very unsettling (along with the world situation) as we are meeting friends of ours who are in town for a couple of days for a conference downtown for dinner. Decided to train and Uber it rather than drive just in case. 🤞the warnings don’t occur.

SOTD is SJP Covet. Haven’t worn it in awhile and I enjoy its unusual mix of lemon, lavender and dark chocolate in various seasons, em phasing the 🍋 in Spring.

I’m commando because I just got back from my regular PT, which went well today, and after which I visited Mom, then went for Chinese food for lunch. I’m going to look on Fragrantica to find which scents I may have that qualify.
Meanwhile, I want to tell Robin that I am beyond thrilled to have discovered last night that my (possibly) favorite fictional police detective is now featured in a show on PBS Masterpiece, with 3 seasons, no less! I can’t believe I missed out on knowing this! It’s Inspector Ricciardi, from 1930s Naples, and it is BEAUTIFULLY filmed on site, gorgeous locations, and the man himself is MMMM. It has the key quirky aspects of the original series (the supernatural visions and the prim/weird romance); each person in those very distinctive novels is just exactly as I pictured them, which never happens in a TV show version of a beloved novel. (The new guy playing Harry Hole in the Nesbo mystery is exactly right, and it’s pretty good, but I realized that those books/shows are just more full of sexual violence and gore than I really like.).

PS: I’m addressing this to Robin because I am pretty sure you read some of those books after I recommended them several years ago. The author is Maurizio dd Giovanni. The books are done in a highly idiosyncratic style; some people might hate it, but which I find it exquisite. The mysteries themselves are good, but it’s the surrounding characters as well as the era of Mussolini’s Italy that makes them stand out.

A bit late today – had a derm appointment this morning. Just put on Hermes Rose Ikebana, rose with rhubarb, tea and lemon which makes a clean and “tangy” rose fragrance. To quote a reviewer from fragrantica who says it much better than I can: “rose that is green but not overly so, fresh but not watery, spicy but without the thorn, vibrant and unique without being obnoxious”.

Robin, you had asked the other day whether Loree Rodkin is still making perfumes. Yes indeed, and Luckyscent has them. (not affiliated). I like her Gothic I and II the best, though I only have I right now. Her jewelry is also gorgeous, very gothy rock’n’roll stuff.

    Gorgeous teapot today Robin!

It’s snowing in some of the mountains here this afternoon. Unfortunately, there was a huge accident on I-70 in the mountains right at the Eisenhower-Johnson tunnel due to the weather. 75+ cars involved, with 19 people injured. No fatalities, thankfully.

Lower down, there have been spotty rain showers along the Front Range. It’s been chilly too, with a high of maybe 60 degrees? Teflon has spent a lot of time on her kitty heating pad today. She also dove under the covers and snuggled in my flannel sheets this morning.

SOTD = back in Agent Provocateur Eau Provocateur EdT. Love the incense note in this and the OG Agent Provocateur.
