Friday scent of the day 5/16

Posted by Robin on 16 May 2025 120 Comments

Happy Friday! It’s also National Barbecue Day and the International Day of Living Together in Peace. (PSA: the Haiku challenge starts on Saturday.) Birthdays: Studs Terkel, Woody Herman, Liberace, Betty Carter and Christian Lacroix. (PSA: the Haiku challenge starts on Saturday.) Our community project for today: wear a fragrance you normally put on to wear to bed. If you don't usually put on fragrance then, wear a fragrance you normally only wear in the evening or on special occasions? Thanks to NinaV for the suggestion!

What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.

I'm in my most-worn bedtime fragrance, Diptyque Philosykos. I keep a sample vial in my night table drawer (refilled as needed), and typically put a single drop on my forearm when I settle in to read.

Reminder: 5/23 is World Turtle Day...celebrate the occasion with your fragrance, in whatever way you see fit.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Tenue de Soirée Is my SOTD
Goutal is one of my favorite houses even though they have broken my heart when they discontinued some of their classics .
Tenue de Soirée is still one of my favorites along with Songes and Ninfeo Mio.

I don’t wear perfume to bed so I don’t get points today.

In a reading rut- so I am going to look through my stacks!

    Hello and tgif!
My sotd that I’ve worn to bed the most since around January last year is Lush Goodnight Sweetheart. It is a beautiful relaxing rose-jasmine pillow spray that really does wonders in helping me fall asleep. I only learnt later that it can be worn as a perfume. I stocked up on this big time. I have 12 bubs, just in case it doesn’t come back next year. It’s still available online (but last chance per Lush) so grab at least one to try it out! I highly recommend.

I picked JHAG Gentlewoman, described on JHAG’s website as “floral, clean & soft”, and that’s pretty accurate. Neroli, orange blossom and musks, a bit of sweetness (probably from almond). Simple and linear.

Right now I’m in the dregs of the Telegrama I wore at bedtime lasts night. But later I will indulge in Tam Dao, the relaxing-est, best-est bedtime scent ever. If I get really ambitious, I’ll layer a tiny bit of Philosykos over the top — the “Robin Special”. 😂🥰

I just got done with touring a new school for my daughter. Her current school is basically throwing up their hands with trying to work with her on her behavior. I am pretty sad about it for her.
I’m wearing Chloe Lumineuse which is a happy smelling perfume. I sometimes wear it at night to feel good after a long day.

My SOTD is Parfum DelRae Début.
Out of all the houses that have stopped making perfume, I miss DelRae most. It was such a beautifully curated line and I will always regret never trying Wit.

Probably DelRae first, Gobin Daude second, for me.

Gobin Daude was a much smaller line, so regret the loss partly for what she would have done if she’d kept going. Not that DelRae did all that many either.

Feel like there is a third big regret that isn’t coming to mind at the moment.

Robin, I love today’s photo selection, it’s perfect for the CP.

I’m feeling sluggish today from a night of not-great sleep, so I might wear something aromatic and zingy, like Aedes’ Signature. But I want to give a shout out to my bed time favorites: Bvlgari Au Thé Bleu, Thisworks Deep Sleep pillow spray, and Neom Perfect Night Sleep body butter. I’m obviously not the best sleeper and need all the help I can get!

Have a wonderful Friday and weekend ahead!

Happy Friday! I’m taking a friend to lunch for her birthday and pondering which fragrance to wear.

I’m also pondering the CdG Clash series, apparently back as the “Accident” series. Has anyone tried one of the 3: Radish Vetiver, Chlorophyll Gardenia and Celluloid Galbanum?

Just before bed, I often wear a spritz of this or that, sometimes whatever draws me and sometimes calling out to Mr. allo for a letter that guides me.

Fortunately last night’s storms brought us only a little rain while we were at the library program. One more hot day today with another chance at storms tonight, but not nearly as humid.🙏

I rarely wear a bedtime scent. Since I’m retired, unless that day’s plans have me in close quarters with others, I spray my SOTD liberally thruout the day and usually just enjoy the dry down at bedtime. But occasionally, especially in cold weather, I do enjoy a comforting skinscent at night, and then it’s usually Barbara Bui LeParfum, my choice for today’s cp. Very soft, woody, ambery, a bit smoky and powdery, this is another scent I heard about, probably on MUA back then, and got a large bottle inexpensively. It’s another by what appears to be a favorite perfumer of mine, Ann Flippo.

Wearing just a tiny spray today, getting ready for an ice cream social that my library staff hosts for those of us volunteers. Then this evening we’ll be going to our Go Green Native Plant Sale.

Happy Friday to all! Ice 🍦🍨

We missed the brunt of last night’s storms here too. There were areas near by that got large hail and tornadoes.

The only scent I wear to bed is a rollerball of an essential oil blend called dirty hippie that is a combination of lavender and patchouli. I’m getting to the bottom of it and haven’t decided if I’ll replace it or not.
This morning I took madtownteen in for her annual checkup/pre camp employment physical. I told her since she has officially completed her first year of college, she didn’t need me to go into the appointment with her anymore, so I waited out in the waiting room. This was clearly a mistake since she came out and told me that she declined her meningitis booster, lol.🙄 Her, “what does meningitis do?” Me, “kill you.” End of discussion. Guess we’ll be making a trip back to the clinic.😅

I am wearing Hanae Mori, the original one, now usually labeled “Butterfly.” My bottle is definitely old, perhaps from around 2000, which is when I first began venturing to explore the perfume counters of the more fancy stores here, such as Saks and Neiman Marcus. I loved this right away, probably because it’s just an easy one to like, sweet and fruity. I’ve always been sure it’s a vanilla scent, but that’s not listed as a note, which surprises me. It sounds like it would be a bit screechy with strawberry and ylang ylang, etc., plus almond, but it’s very gentle and is definitely something you could feel comfortable wearing to bed. (The SA where I bought it told me she wore it to bed, and so I did that too for awhile.).

We’re having a week of record-setting high temperatures and I already feel like I’m preparing for what I call “summer hibernation”–where if you live in the Deep South you just go into your air conditioned burrow, close all the blinds, and barely venture out into the bright hot day unless absolutely necessary.

hajusuuri, I did not know ’86’ until I googled it, but then I don’t watch cooking shows. Tonight’s bed scent will be Onder de Linde from Baruti, which I’m also sampling this afternoon thanks to a friend. Linden scents are so lovely and relaxing to me.
My sister and I used to love Pre de Provence Linden and also Provence Sante Linden. Maybe I need to check ebay.
Last night’s bed scent was Tom Ford Noir de Noir, which despite its name is cozy and pleasing to me, not dark and edgy.

No CP points for me today – but seconding Laila in that bedtime is often when I enjoy wonderful drydowns. I am a base notes kinda gal. Welcoming any fragrant hand pats on my first day without my dear 17+ year old black cat who Mr. Mossy and I had to take to the end of her days. She was a peaceful and sweet girl who Mr. Mossy especially loved. It’s one of those times when the expression “heavy heart” becomes so real – I know most of you will understand.
I’ve been wearing Atelier Jasmin Angelique, which seems uplifting but not jolly, and quietly strengthening via galbanum. I took my several porch plants outside yesterday, and the jasmine, looking very peaked after a Winter indoors, yet already had one fragrant bloom! I’ve kept busy and prayers and some beautiful flowers in my yard are a comfort. RIP sweet Muffin.

RIP sweet Muffin. She will live on in your ❤️ always and in gratitude for the life and love you gave her. Sending you a comforting hug from someone who knows that pain well. 🤗
I, too, have a jasmine plant that hangs on during the winter months inside our bedroom and will soon go outside on our little deck and, yes, it’s amazing how quickly those lovely fragrant blossoms form. It’s going to be quite chilly here next week so I haven’t begun the transitioning process yet.

Awwwwww. So sorry to hear that your sweet kitty Muffin had to cross The Rainbow Bridge. Black cats are so full of personality. 😿

We truly have gotten comfort from thinking about her life at our house. And we had an excellent and caring vet who helped her over the last few months. Thank you for caring!!

I pretty rarely wear something specifically to sleep in, more so I refresh my SOTD or put on something different in the evening, but usually at least an hour before going to bed because I don’t want to smell too strongly of perfume when trying to sleep. I’ve found myself distracted by heavier perfumes while sleeping before. I do have some lavender essential oil on my nightstand that I’ll put on some nights, but I don’t think that’s fun to wear for the CP. 😉

So today I’m in Guerlain Lavande Velours, an older Aqua Allegoria, that I did kinda try out as a late evening perfume for a little while. I found it a bit much though if you put it on too close to bed. I like it well though, but it’s not an especially favorite lavender scent. Yesterday, I wore Jo Malone Ginger Biscuit, which I have worn mostly as an evening scent since getting my decant because it wears pretty close to the skin and quickly dries down into a creamy skin scent.

I don’t want anything strong either. I wear a drop of fragrance at night, no more…can’t imagine spraying anything on me or on my sheets, but I know many do both. And if I get to bed too late to read, I don’t put on fragrance at all.

And I keep 3 EOs on my bedside table but only for sniffing, not for wearing: lavender, frankincense, and ylang.

Tonight I am wearing THE bedtime scent for me, Eau Parfumée Thé Vert. It’s one of the first scents that I started wearing regularly at night during my early perfumista days, and my most-worn bedtime fragrance to this day.

Consistency matters, too…if you’ve worn it to bed that long, it probably does what Philosykos does for me, instant relaxation.

Sotd Moon Glory because I had a much needed and perfect lunch date w Mr Engineer! It’s been so hectic that I haven’t seen him in 2 wks. Moon Glory is my favorite date fragrance.

For CP, I wanted to wear my new purchase of Desertland Eau de Parfum layered with Sleepy lavender lotion from Lush. But, if you read yesterday, jalapeño recommended I rest it in the dark for 3 mos because the top notes have been non existant-no juniper or lavender. I’m most interested to read everyone’s co for other ideas!

    Gorgeous picture today Robin!

Another late post for me. Had an old friend call this afternoon, and we chatted for a couple hours. She lives in an area with sketchy cell service, though, and had to switch to her landline at one point.

SOTD = L’Eau de Chloe EdT, aka The Green One. It’s a bit much for a bedtime scent when first applied but mellows out beautifully.

I wore EL Sensuous Nude today. It’s definitely a light scent for me so would be perfect at night.

I don’t have anything specific for bedtime but do like to stick to much lighter, unobtrusive fragrances. I keep some of my bottles under the bed, in an old wrapping paper container that lays flat, so I can easily pull it out if I “need” to wear something else.

I wore Monoscent G today. I bought it for day time wear but it is SO ephemeral that it does not last 1 hour. But good for getting into a cozy mood for night. Another one I like for night is Solinotes Tonka which I bought so I could know how tonka smelled. It is quite good, well worth the $20 or so I spent on it.

I wear a lightweight sweater in my house since husband likes the AC on lower temp than I do. The sweater slowly takes on all the scents I wore in the week past and it smells great today and I wish I could discern which scents dominate.

I don’t have it with me, as I’m traveling, but I like to wear Jicky Eau de toilette to bed. I find it very soothing, with its lavender.
