Happy Friday! It's also International Carrot Day. Birthdays: Dorothea Dix, Muddy Waters, Marguerite Duras, Maya Angelou. Our community project for today: wear a perfume that makes you think of clouds, fog, mist or haze. It could be anything that feels soft-focus, silvery, or a little ethereal, or maybe it’s the perfume that wraps around you like a thick, scented cloud. Thanks go to Glannys for the suggestion!
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I went with Cartier Baiser Volé, which has already come up in the comments this week quite a few times.
Reminder: 4/11 will be Toontown Friday...scent a favorite cartoon character. Suggested by Jalapeno.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

For the CP I am in a cloud of lilac love from Amouge
Back to the library today as I took weeks off to go to Arizona. I missed my second home.
Chanel lippy with a bit of terracotta bronzer. Clean skin and a red lip is my favorite look.
I have become obsessed with horse racing 🏇 and the horse u have been following is on his way to the Derby. My plan this year is to go to one of the triple crown races. This was inspired by reading the book Horse. Made me interested in this, and also to go back to riding.
hello-I responded to the Galop thread from the other day, to let you know the refill will work with any bottle:) And i love your description of your makeup-I do that look, too 🙂 If you get a chance check out the Sisley matte lipsticks-they don’t move or feather. $$ but worth it.
I have heard about these lipsticks. I am embarrassed to tell you that I use their really expensive mascara. Love Sisley!
Ok- I am gonna check if they have the refill at Bloomies. I doubt it. They only had one bottle of Galop left when I was there
*I have been following
perfect 🙂
You smell wonderful – I’ll be getting out my bottle of LL very soon, thanks to your reminder. And, I love to watch horse races, too.
I love horse races as well.
This is what happens when I read a lot-a door opens to a book or subject and then BAM I become curious and start following.. I am into horse racing and as someone who use to ride, I am eager again!
That’s a beautiful photo, Robin! Accidentally CP compliant in my sample of Rose Tonnerre, which wraps around me so beautifully. I wore this around 2005 or so, with Vetiver Extraordinaire. I thought In was so sophisticated lol.
And the weather here is also CP compliant-another bout of freezing fog. Wraps around everything and makes it challenging to see!
That FM is one of my favorite rose scents, you smell great 🌹
Thank you, NinaV-the truffle note reads as dark woods on me, and I love it!
Beautiful fragrance 💕
Thank you, Kris, and I agree:)
I don’t really have anything that fits the brief but I guess Hermès Rocabar is kind of thick? Whatever — it’s what I felt like wearing today and it’s gorgeous.
We’re sitting in an airport waiting to board our flight: heading to Montréal, then down to Fort Lauderdale for the night and getting on board a cruise ship tomorrow headed across the Atlantic, first time we’ve ever done this. No internet for us so I’ll be incommunicado for two whole weeks. Wish me luck!
Have a gorgeous trip and tell us about it when you get back 🙂
Have a wonderful trip!
Bon voyage!
Have a fabulous trip, pyramus!🚢☀️
Safe travels, have a wonderful time.
Have a super great time! Cruises are amazing!
Have a fantastic time!
Bon Voyage!
Have a fabulous time!
Good luck!
Good luck and enjoy!
Your trip sounds wonderful! Complete immersion in the moment without distractions. Enjoy!
Safe travels and good luck! 🌈🍀🍀
Have fun! I hope it’s a great time!
I am in Serge Lutens Iris Silver Mist for the CP.
Having a slice of carrot cake (I didn’t know it was carrot day) with my usual cup of coffee. I might need a second cup soon to be fully awake for a 4 hour seminar online.
Happy Friday! 🌞
Perfect choice! And carrot cake is delightful any day.
Thank you, Ringthing! 🥕
Great choice and cake!
Thank you, Lillyjo!
4 hours! I hope it will be interesting.
Long hours, but it was very interesting.
I’m twinning with you! I love that it’s also carrot day.
Hope the seminar is interesting at least. That’s a long time!
We smell wonderful!
Hi! my fabulously-scented Triplets; I too did not know it was Carrot Day but ISM should bring us into full CP compliance. I was eating some delicious carrots cooked with corned beef this week, so we will have leftovers tonight. My parents always liked cabbage and potatoes with their corned beef. I add ‘taters ’cause they are always good, but carrots cooked in that broth are my favorite. I prefer my cabbage in other ways. Hope your seminar goes well, PL67.
All that food sounds delish!
Yowza! Four hours is rather long for something online. Hope you made it thru all right!
It was exhausting, but I survived!
Wow, carrot cake for breakfast sounds delightful! It is my favorite cake besides Sticky Toffee Pudding. I can’t have any in the house, I’d eat the entire cake.
A fun tip for the bakers in our group, a friend years ago gave me the tip to put a tiny amount of anise in the cream cheese frosting. It’s a really nice way to tie in the spices in the cake and give it a pop of flavor.
Oh! Thank you for the anise tip. It sounds great. I love spices in my cakes and anise will be an interesting addition.
I’m also is Iris Silver Mist, from a decant that is several years old. I don’t know if its gone off, or if its just not to my taste, but I’m not enjoying it.
ISM is unusual, on the edge for me, but I enjoy the ride. Maybe you are getting too much carrot today! Sorry it didn’t work for you, but hey, CP points!!
My CP perfume is Lutens Gris Clair. I love it so much but I have to be in the mood for it since it morphs from warm to cool and back all day. I once described GC as having a Pink Floyd album playing in the background and I stand by that opinion.
Finally some sun today but still windy so it feels chilly. Today is my day off and I’m going thrifting, hope I find something good.
I hope you find something good too! Enjoy the day!
You too, lillyjo!
I found a couple of things that I spent too much for, now I hope to sell them. So that part was fun. But you know me, I’m always looking for jewelry, scarves, vintage hats – “lady stuff”. That I’m hunting for perfume is a given, but I rarely find any.
Yes! Gris Clair is a perfect cloud/softly enveloping scent. You smell fantastic and ultra CP compliant. (Suddenly I don’t like that word compliant, but struggled to find another word—representative? Exemplary!)
Be well, and good hunting.
Thanks, HemlockSillage, I can’t think of the right word either but I know what you mean 😉
Hello and tgif!
Sotd is Chanel Jersey. Comfy lavender puff cloud.
There are some cherry blossom trees in my local park and still blooming. Going to go take some photos this afternoon.
Love Jersey
Representing team iris in L’Attesa; a bit more than ethereal, but good for a brisk sunny morning.
We are Classy scent twins!
I love the bubbly L’Attesa. I used so many samples, I finally bought a small bottle. I thought if that and Romanza disappeared, I would have such regret. The iris in that makes it soft and I always feel like I’m in a bubble of joyful elegance when I wear it.
I hope you have a great day in your scent bubble.
I also love your SOTD, wonderful stuff!
Another SL iris – Clair de Musc – hazy and misty. I see lots of Lutens so far!
Hi, house twin! You smell wonderful. Clair de Musc is my easy-reach Serge Lutens, and one of my top three.
It’s a sunny spring day here so I wasn’t in a mood for misty and silvery scents. Instead I went for the lovely Rose Magnetic from Essential Parfums. I think I’ll have to repurchase this one in travel size.
Happy Friday NSTers! 🌸
Happy Friday NinaV!
💞
I have never tried your SOTD, NinaV. If you want to describe it a bit I’d love to hear about it. We’re supposed to have some sun tomorrow and I cannot wet-starting to feel like a mushroom over here.
Carole, I would describe it as a soft, pretty feminine rose soliflore. It brings to my mind light-pink plush roses. Maybe it helps if I say what it’s not: it’s not too fresh, it’s not mysterious or edgy like some rose scents can be (which I also like, I love all sorts of rose perfumes). It’s quite linear, so what you get at the opening is what stays on your skin through the end.
Happy Friday back atcha, NinaV!
👋
I think I would like that one. I am going to order a sample. I am not familiar with it, but have liked a few others from that house.
I just left my mini review under Carole’s comment 😊
Thank you.
Happy Friday, everyone!
I’m in La Treizieme Heure from Cartier, which feels like an enveloping shroud of leather, softened even more with the addition of narcissus.
Leather, tea and smoke! Niiiice choice for CP and to scent your day. Be well.
Leather and narcissus notes are amazing together!
Happy Friday!
Inspired by austenfan, I’m wearing DelRae Mythique for the beautiful, cloudy iris effect.
Ah, I just love to provide that kind of inspiration!
😇
IA Yesterday Haze, taking the brief very literally today. 🙂 Happy Friday!
Aha, I thought about that one and wondered if someone would wear it today!
Wearing vintage Jicky edt for the CP. I almost went for no 19 edt for the iris but wanted Jicky more.
We are house twins!
Chanel 1932
An exclusif is always right.
Frozen cherries and yogurt smoothie
Because I rediscovered a long-forgotten bottle of Precious Heart yesterday while putting in order the balcony perfume chest that’s what I chose this morning and tonight for the CP it’s Jour d’Hermès parfum. It was 22C today and very lovely weather, the warmest day of the year so far.
I haven’t smelled Jour d’Hermes in awhile. How is it?
have you smelled the absolu version.
Yes, it’s great too.
It has a grapefruit top, very bright and it’s a spring flowers scent. If you like Ellena you would enjoy it I think, it is less sheer than some of his scents, it has presence, I like this parfum version especially.
Jour d’Hermes is my favorite Hermes and the perfume that made me love a grapefruit note. You smell bright and cheerful.
Thank you so much, it shines in spring for sure and a mood booster.
I remember loving this too when it came out.
I recently tried Galop and also sniffed their Oud fragrance
I’m so glad to hear Jour d’Hermes is getting some love. It’s so enjoyable yet I rarely hear it mentioned…
22C is just about perfect. Following our discussion of Ciara, wondered about other drugstore cheapies from that era–sounds like Charlie, Intimate and Moon Drops were among the more popular. Do you have or have you smelled Moon Drops? Notes sound like it’d be right up my alley.
Had never heard of Precious Heart, and didn’t know Frank Voelkl signed any Guerlains.
Ooo, when was the discussion of Ciara? I’m a big fan of it.
Wednesday.
Thanks. Off to check it out 😸
Actually, I have an unopened Moondrops, a current one made by Prism England, not sure why I haven’t tried it yet😀, I’m fond of Charlie because it reminds me of the past, Intimate I adore, I bought two vintage bottles for very little money, it’s a cousin to vintage Miss Dior.
Hope I can send you our weather.
I love Intimate. I have a vintage bottle and an Intimate scented candle that my mother bought when I was little.
Intimate really is a gem.
Oh, Moon Drops, I haven’t heard that one mentioned in ages! I think my mom used to have it and I remember liking it a lot. Maybe I even had it at one time but haven’t seen a bottle in ages.
Down memory lane😀, it’s also a great name for a perfume.
My mom had Moondrops! I remember it distinctly, and swooning as a preteen. It was glorious.
Seems it was so popular!
I remember my mom using the Moon Drops moisturizer on her face years ago. I know that’s not the perfume, but I haven’t heard of Moon Drops for ages.
You all seem to have fond memories of Moon Drops😀
The grapefruit top notes in Jour d’Hermes and Jour d’Hermes Absolu are top notch. Never came across the parfum in the brick & mortar stores.
For the CP, I’m wearing Armani Prive Pivoine Suzhou. This is a lovely light fantasy floral that gives the impression of mistiness. I usually like scents that are heavier hitters, but PS captivated me from the beginning.
Your sotd sounds very intriguing.
Still chilly here so can’t say I went with the CP. SOTD is Encens Mythique. So glad I purchased this.
love your SOTD
Thanks. I love it too!
Encens Mythique fits perfectly with heavy grey clouds in my minds’ eye. Almost picked it for today.
Did you end up buying a bottle?
Not yet, LOL. I still have a bit of the sample that you sent me.
Après l’ondée, for those patches of fog that occur after rain showers.
Plus its ethereal and gorgeous.
Perfection in a bottle!
That’s a good one for the CP.
Yay, was hoping to see that today.
Wearing Kurky again and enjoying each of its layers. I think i am going to get a bottle, maybe in Paris in a couple of weeks, can’t wait.
I wish there was some kind of perfume event with Kurkdjian!!
You got me interested, what do you like the most about Kurky? 🙂
It really blends well with the skin, i find it complex, fun at the same time.
The first note I smell is sandalwood, then I smell a mix of vanilla and gummy bears, at the end some musk. I didn’t smell the peach and raspberry.
One of the few new scents that got me interested to buy a full bottle!!
It goes straight to my “to try” list, thanks!
Today I reached for Iris Pallida. I considered a variety of things from Kenzo Air, Guaiac 10, Kenzo Flower, to Les Néréides Musc Samarkand—but I realized I hadn’t worn Iris Pallida in a long while.
Do you ever reach for a bottle and hesitate to spray it, worrying it might have turned? I definitely do. Even keeping things as insulated and in darkness as I can, I know entropy has its way with all things. I’m thankful this beauty was ok, and I’m glad the CP inspired me to seek it out and wear it.
Be well, and may you enjoy your fragrant treasures…just not all at once.
Sometimes when I am worried I will first do a spritz or two into the air, to prime the pump.
Yes! I think of it as clearing the pipes. I’ve also spayed a paper strip or something I’m going to recycle if I’m really worried.
Today I was brave and crazy and just spritzed my arm.
Great scent!
I have not had any of my perfumes turn that I am aware of but maybe I don’t have any that are old enough. I think the oldest one I have right now is about 15years old and it is still good, however it is a Chanel and I wonder if the higher end brands last longer.
Natural perfumes seem to have a shorter shelf life. The synthetic aroma chemicals can be more shelf stable, I’d think. Some can survive the heat of a dryer…but that is an interesting question. I wonder which perfumes or notes go off fastest.
I’d think the top notes would go first. I’ve had some vintage scents that smell weird and chemical up top, but after 20-30 minutes are still lovely. I guess they have good bones.
I would bet the natural ones do go off quicker. That makes sense.
Happy Friday all! I’m in one of the perfumes that first came to my mind for this CP, Gris Clair. It smells like steam to me, which I can also translate to fog, mist, or haze.
Scent twins!
Woohoo! We’re smelling great today.
Happy Friday all!
SOTD is Essence, by Narciso Rodriguez from the original release. Iris, violet, musk, powdery rose. It perfectly fits my ‘cloud’ definition.
Also, I somehow read International Carrot day as Carrot Cake day. Not a bad thing…. 😉
I wanted to buy that Essence bottle so much. Unfortunately I could not smell it at all.
I don’t think I ever tried that one. I had For Her and really liked that.
If you can find it, do report back! I think it’s a nice ‘reset’ perfume for when I want something pretty and easy to wear.
I adore For Her, do you like the EDT or EDP?
My all time favorite version is the Musc Oil for her, I still have my bottle from the original release and the re-release. It’s so gorgeous and probably one of my most complimented scents.
If I remember correctly, I liked the EDP the best.
Joining the iris crew in SL Iris Silver Mist.
You are triplets, at least!
I am wearing En Passant by Frederic Malle, because it reminds me of lilacs in the rain. I am also trying to keep calm after I lost ten percent of my money in the stock market in just a few weeks. I am reminding myself things can always be worse. Unfortunately, that means I will have to disappoint Donatella again.
You smell wonderful. I passed by a neighborhood lilac bush yesterday and noticed it was budding out. I am glad my NST fragrant friends are reminding me of my lilac perfume favorites to enjoy while I wait for the local show.
Oooh, I need to get mine out — you smell lovely!
You smell beautiful.
Ignoring my investments for the time being. I don’t need the extra stress.
@Jalapeno, Me too, I was going to look, which I do for every quarter, but I’m going to wait for a while.
Yeah, I made the mistake of peeking yesterday. Jalapeno, you have the right idea.
Joining the Iris Silver Mist team. I picked it based on the KISS theory. 🙂
You guys might be the biggest team today?
Clouds of Flowers from DSH which is soft and flowery and really pretty
And perfect name.
I am giving my decant of Both sides of clouds a full days wear today. It keeps playing peekaboo with me. I enjoy it when I can smell it.
It’s cloudy again here with rain coming tomorrow.
I love the name of your scent, Passage d’Enfer does this too. Hope your weather improves.
It’s just mostly gloomy, nothing severe. It might Snow again Monday.
House twins! I am in Clouds Parfum!
This is only the 2nd perfume I have tried from this house. The other one was the chocolate one, which I didn’t care for.
Wish I was getting your rain!
One good thing about all this rain is the grass is getting green. How do people keep their lawns up without much rain there?
Sprinkler systems. But right now the grass is still sort of dormant.
Taking half a point for Osmanthe Yunnan today. I found my decant of it while I was getting swaps prepared. It’s giving ethereal and fluffy, so let’s go with it. I hope my wax lady likes it because that’s where I’m going right now 😆
Should I get my new wildflower seeds into my planters today? They are calling for the dreaded “wintry mix” next week.
You smell lovely.
I would say wait until after your week of “wintry mix” passes and then plant your seeds. Better safe than sorry.
Depending on your specific gardening zone, I’d check the short-term and long-term forecast for the next week or 2. It doesn’t hurt to wait a week if your weather is warming up substantially.
Ooo Baise Vole! So lovely.
Back in Santal Calling today. Going to use up my sample I think. Will probably swing back and forth between liking it better and then less better the whole time. Depending on how the last wear ends, i will either get a 5ml spray sample or not. Depending on how that goes, I may upgrade to a small bottle.
What I am saying is, anything can happen from here. Because today’s wear gives me a smooth, creamy wood with only the teeniest dill up front, and not every time.
Decisions decisions 🙂
Inspired by AnnieA, I’m in L’Eau d’Hiver. I had forgotten how soft and lovely it is.
Happy Friday, all!
A pretty entry under the Misty category, isn’t it?
Sometimes it’s worth keeping a perfume sample you really don’t think you’ll even try. I awoke this morning to a blue sky with puffy white clouds, perfectly mirroring my SOTD – and cp points I’m claiming – in Ariana Grande Cloud ☁️ from that sample!
I’m enjoying the whipped cream and vanilla notes with a little bit of coconut and a touch of praline. I don’t smell any lavender, pear or bergamot as some have said they do, which is fine with me. It’s a warm and cozy scent, wraps around like a hug. It smells very similar to philosophy Fresh Cream, which shares its whipped cream note along with milk and powdery notes and is one I enjoy in mid-winter. The blue sky and puffy white clouds disappeared mid-morning, now it’s gray and cold with rain approaching, so a sweet gourmand scent that’s like a cozy hug turns out to be very welcome today!
Finally got my Spring haircut this afternoon and then we treated ourselves to a late lunch at our favorite seafood restaurant – family-owned and operated since 1951! – now we’re tucked for the nite with 😻😻😻.
Happy weekend to all!
Hurray for a Spring haircut! Hopefully now your weather won’t flip over into Winter-ish. I’ve had that happen a few times after getting a shorter clip. 🥶
SOTD = 4160 Tuesdays Clouds Parfum
W00t! It is so wonderful. I was going to challenge myself and try to finish the bottle this year but it may take me a few more years 🤣. I do love it but once it’s gone, it’s gone!
In other news, here’s a gift article on how to protect your brain. I haven’t finished reading all the comments (barely started), but the suggestions are pretty good. Enjoy!
https://www.nytimes.com/2025/04/03/well/mind/brain-health-simple-tips.html?unlocked_article_code=1.9E4.3-g1.FQpIsH7RoH10&smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare
That’s right, the Clouds Parfum was very much a Limited Edition.
It sure is although I’ve found that it doesn’t hurt to ask …
Exactly correct! I asked when I ordered Hush Hush; there was some still available. It’s such a fantastic fragrance!
Good tips in the article.
I agree. Many of the tips seem “generic” except even then people don’t normally practice them.
It’s cold here. Even the foothills are socked in with thick grey clouds and a biting wind makes it unpleasant to be outside. Rotten weather for Opening Day of the Colorado Rockies. However, it is a good day to get a load of laundry done.
SOTD = Guerlain Iris Torrefie, from a couple of NSTers and The Sample Stash. It goes surprisingly well with the cold wind outside.
I hope your team wins despite the weather!
Sadly, it was not to be. The game went into extra innings (yay), but the visitors had a hitting streak in the 11th (boo).
Sending good weather vibes your way. I should do one load of laundry too, you are reminding me.
Getting a teeny bit of light snow now. Most of the day it was just overcast here.
The drought monitor is looking better for my area! But southern Colorado desperately needs more moisture.
You smell wonderful!
Thank you!
I bet you smell wonderful!
Thanks Kris! Surprised that iris worked with the cold weather today. I guess there’s always something new to learn about perfume.
I think some iris scents can be worn year round.
Iris typically comes off as chilly to me.
