Estée Lauder has launched White Linen Oud Legacy, a new woody floral flanker to 2024's White Linen Legacy, which was a redo of 1978's White Linen.
White Linen Oud is the latest addition to join Estée Lauder’s Legacy Collection. Crafted by perfumer Frederic Malle the collection is designed to honour Mrs Estée Lauder’s fragrance legacy. White Linen Oud is enriched with warm, earthy oud and sweet rose, making it a decadent choice for the evening or special occasions.

The cinematic expanse of White Linen Legacy, intensified.
Seductively pulsing with the magnetic richness of Oud. More indulgent than ever with its notes of eloquently paired Oud and Rose. White Linen Oud Legacy is abundantly infused with natural essences. Elegantly concentrated. Exquisitely pure.
A heart of precious natural Rose, blending both Rose Oil and Rose Absolute, centers the fragrance, illuminating and elevating the profound intensity.
Reimagined by Frédéric Malle, this Oud perfume builds on the foundational notes of Vetiver and Amber in Mrs. Lauder’s original White Linen.
Sumptuous Jasmine and luscious Violet Leaf expand the complex arrangement. The result is memorably rich, immediately intoxicating.
Additional notes include aldehyde, cypriol and olibanum.
Estee Lauder White Linen Oud Legacy is available in 100 ml Eau de Parfum, £250.

I think this poses the question, “Does White Linen actually *need* oud, though?”, and my answer would have to be, “Emphatically not.” I don’t see how oud is going to improve on what was originally unimproveable (and that price is madness, not far below $500 CAD, from a company that used to sell only reasonably priced, high-quality scents).
I absolutely agree.
Guessing it is primarily aimed at Middle East and that your question is not the same as EL’s question 🙂
That price is crazy – way out of EL’s lane. But Robin is on to something: I can see a marketing research project that found a potential money tree to shake.
White Linen is supposed to smell “clean” while oud is, well, “dirty”. Perfume oxymoron?
I do love oud though… will probably cave during the next EL discount.
So true! White Linen would be the last fragrance in the Legacy collection to which I would think of adding oud.
If they’d added oud to Knowing or Spellbound (in their current incarnations), I’d think that made perfect sense, but I can’t get my head around polluting White Linen with it.
I wore WL back in the day, and couldn’t agree more. It doesn’t make sense among all of EL’s perfume output. That said, I tried the renewed/redone White Linen about a year ago and it totally failed in my opinion. So, EL/FM is working with an entirely different WL to begin with.
Yes! I think having oud in Knowing or Spellbound would be quite amazing!!
But oud is not always dirty, and in fact in modern times it’s often not.
Very Frederic Malle-esque, methinks!
I’ve mentioned before that I am a big EL fangirl. This one is going to be a heavy lift, but I hope I can try it. Pyramus is spot-on that Knowing or Spellbound seem more oud-friendly than WL. But TBH, if it appeared at a discounter, I’d buy it PDQ. 🙂
Spotted a grammatical “Ooops” in the first sentence, Robin: “which was redo of 1978’s White Linen”. Should there be an “a” in there?
And oud in White Linen Legacy doesn’t compute for me. Pyramus had an excellent suggestion for putting some in the current version of Knowing. Or better yet, the Knowing Legacy.
Huge thanks as always Jalapeno! Fixed, many hours later!
God these bottles are ugly. The price is also laughable for a Lauder fragrance.
Can someone tell me what the price is in U.S. currency?
If its more than $150, I won’t be trying it.
But it sounds interesting to me. And I am a fan of the perfumer Malle.
Ready to take a sample sniff.
