Happy Friday and happy Valentine's Day! Birthdays: Frederick Douglass (maybe), Jack Benny, Florence Henderson, Gregory Hines, Terry Gross. Our community project for today: wear a fragrance that expresses your feelings about Valentine's Day, or that reminds you of someone you love.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
To me, Valentine's Day is frankly mostly about chocolate (something it has in common with the other 364 days of the year). So I'm in Fendi Theorema, layered over Lush Posh Chocolate body lotion.
Reminder: 2/21 will be Bucket List Friday...think of a place you'd like to go or a thing you'd like to do or something you'd like to accomplish, and wear the right fragrance for the experience.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Lilac Love 💕 by Amouge
This is a soft beautiful fragrance
Sending valentines 💌 and fragrant hug to you all
House twin!
Hugs to you too~ 😀
Hugs to you💕
I am reading a book now I think you would like if you haven’t already read it. All the Colors of the Dark by Chris Whitaker.
I haven’t read – what is the book like ?
Happy Valentine’s and tgif!
Sotd is Amouage Beloved. I think the name sums it up about Valentine’s day.
I tried Lush’s Posh White Chocolate and Rose shower cream! It is rose-forward and with a delicious drizzle of white chocolate. The sweetness is close to Posh Chocolate. The chocolate doesn’t overpower the rose at any stage. The scent also lingers after shower, so that’s nice!
You smell great!
Roses are of course the clichéd flower for Valentine’s Day, so I figured why not just wear the rosiest thing in the whole world, nineties-vintage Patou Joy. I still can’t believe it was discontinued: such a history, such a reputation, and so extraordinarily beautiful.
The Patou saga is so sad. But you smell amazing!
Not buying a 15 ml Parfum of Joy is one of my regrets. I bought one for my mom some years ago and she did not love it and gave it away, ha…
It is my oldest bottle, 1973. If ever a fragrance was named correctly, it is Joy.
You smell wonderful! Love that scent.
Jul et Mad Fugit Amor – a blast of carnation and cardamom.
Fugit Amor (Fugitive Love) → Inspired by Rodin’s sculpture of the same name → Inspired by the story of Francesca and Paolo in Dante’s Inferno → Inspired by the real affair of Francesca da Rimini with her brother-in-law.
And that, folks, is one of examples of how one messed-up relationship can inspire several incredible works of art.
(Here are is an article about other works of art based on this story – https://www.smithsonianmag.com/arts-culture/before-romeo-and-juliet-dante-immortalized-paolo-and-francesca-as-literatures-star-crossed-lovers-180978911/)
Thanks so much for linking the article, it was a great read!
More thanks…bookmarked that to read it this weekend!
Riveting Glannys! I just listened to Tchaikovsky’s FdR. I had never realized that F&P’s story inspired so much art. Is there a fragrance inspired by their story?
I must listen to that piece one day.
Well, my today’s SOTD is indirectly inspired by it, as I (probably confusingly) explained in my comment. Maybe there is more direct reference, but I am not aware of it.
Glannys yikes! Of course your fragrance is inspired by it ! I got so enraptured fading all about the story and listening to the music I totally forgot your Sotd! A thousand pardons!
🤣😂 No worries!
I chose Profumum Roma Alba for the CP this morning. It’s the softest, fluffiest, dreamiest, most romantic scent I own … and Mr. G loves it too, a bonus. Post-shower I may switch to Memoirs of a Trespasser, a scent that both of us wear and adore.
Your SOTD sounds lovely, I must try it, although I almost hope I won’t love it because it’s very expensive 😄
You smell wonderful.
Iris Ganache since this is what I was wearing the first time my husband said he loved me.
Also, if anyone else has a love of sampling, I am offering a box of samples to someone in the CONUS. Lots and lots of samples. Dozens. No guarantee that things won’t have evaporated, turned or been discontinued. Just guaranteeing quantity. Call dibs here and my username is my yahoo address.
Aw, sweet!
So sweet!
That’s so lovely!
So beautiful!
Thank you for sharing this sweet story! Read it to my mom and we both are charmed.
Such a sweet story.
Oh gosh, that’s so romantic!!! I would love some samples!
Be sure you email her now since you took dibs. Just trying to help the newbie😉
Great help to the newb! Or is it n00b? 😆I told her I was interested. Haven’t heard back yet. How do I email her?
She has on her post that her name is what she uses for her email on yahoo if I understand correctly.
And just for in the future, you usually just say “dibs”, but you did say you were interested so she should understand.
I got your email.
Very cool!
I tend to be cynical about romance and almost wore Boudoir or Bill Blass Nude as a joke, but decided to play it straight and wear SJP’s Covet for both the name indicating romantic longing, and the chocolate notes.
That is perfect! Plus Covet has enough of an edge to not be straight up romantic.
In Prada Candy, in a doubtless futile effort not to eat any sweets today, after a quite dessert-centric week.
I started to copy you. I think Candy is perfect for the day…and I agree with your strategy. Sometimes I wear sweet perfume in lieu of eating treats. Enjoy your yummy benzoin sillage.
🙂
That’s the reason I chose my sotd.
Happy Valentine’s Day ! I am wearing Acqua di Parma Arancia di Capri today and smelling so citrus-y, which is one of my favorite perfume categories. Love crisp citrus perfumes !!
I do too! Happy Valentine’s Day Barqs.
Wearing Zelda by En Voyage Perfumes today in honor of the very rocky, dark, volatile, and tragic love between F Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald. Not all love stories have a “Happily Ever After,” right?
Every time I smell this one, I’m astounded by how much I love it because it’s not my “style” at all. Very floral, waxy, humid and almost tropical, it’s dark and secretive. It’s perfectly packaged in a vintage looking 15ml bottle that looks like it was made to sit atop Zelda’s dressing table. Notes include:
-Spiced Italian bergamot, spices, Iranian galbanum, creamy magnolia blossom and garden florals, smoky amber, vintage musks, vanilla, balsams, sandalwood, vetiver, cedarwood, and mousse de chêne.
Happy Valentine’s Day to all the lovers out there! As for the rest of us, love the one you’re with, just like the song tells you to. 😍
Here’s Luther, telling you how to do it:
https://youtu.be/pDFersmE8QU?si=LkDjFDTY4uXge7SS
Deva, getting back to the video you posted the other day. I absolutely remember Making It! I had a huge crush on David Naughton and I still break into the theme song from time to time. Lol.
Re: today’s video.. I once had a beau who told me this song reminded him of me. It still makes me laugh 🤣
Happy Valentines Day!
Oh my! Not sure how I feel about your ex-beau. Probably good he’s an Ex. I think John Travoltas sister was in this, too.
Yes..she was in so many shows!
Deva, wow, that fragrance seems spot on for Zelda! As for the song, I initially went “Idris Elba sang Love the One You’re With on Luther???” 😆. Oh you mean the original Luther !?!
A Crosby, Stills & Nash story for anyone interested. CSN came to my college senior year. Our coed senior dorm floor camped out and scored front row tickets. When Stills sang LTOYW, he walked off the stage and into the audience, initially stopping at the front row three feet from me. Enthralling! He ended walking all the way to the back row while they did multiple runs of the chorus. By the songs end everyone was standing, singing and dancing. One of my top 3 concert experiences.
That sounds amazing. I saw so many concerts but never managed to see them (in any of their groupings).
They sang all their hits and almost everyone knew the lyrics by heart. Not a Taylor Swift level concert experience, but the auditorium gave it a coziness than the stadiums lack imho.
You smell wonderful, Deva, I’m a big fan of Zelda and En Voyage perfumes in general.
I remember you liking it. I wish she (as in Shelly Waddington) got more mentions here. There’s another of hers I tried and really liked but too many perfumes, not enough time (or money!).
I think she’s very talented and I’m always interested in her perfumes for En Voyage perfumes or for another line. She did Hummingbird and Civet for Zoologist and I love them both.
Belatedly reading but count me as another Zelda fan. I don’t think I’ve tried any others from her line but I do also love Civet that she did for Zoologist. Unfortunately though, I wore Zelda often enough to a job I really hated and have terrible memories of so sometimes it’s hard to get past that initial association I have with it to that terrible job.
Discovering a “Not Me” perfume that fits like a glove is pretty darn fun when it happens, though.
Roses for Valentine’s Day -it’s cliché but hey, I smell nice in Portrait of a Lady! 🌹
You sure do!
Twins!
🙌
You smell wonderful! PoaL is one of my favorite rose scents.
Thank you ☺️
POAL also has a bit of an edge, so it’s even more fitting for Valentine’s Day.
Gregory Hines! I loved watching him dance.
Lyric for me today — roses, plus the bottle is a good Valentine’s Day colour. It also was a gift from Mr. Ockeghem.
House twins!
Do you remember him in The Cotton Club movie? Amazing
My most vivid memory of him was in “White Nights”, which was acceptable watching at church sleepovers when I was a teen. I wasn’t quite old enough to have seen “The Cotton Club”. I just watched a clip from the movie, though, with him and his brother, and he’s just…so good. I did love “White Nights”, though, because…Baryshnikov and Hines! I don’t even really remember the premise of “White Nights” that well (something, something, Russians, escape, dancing), but it puts those two amazing dancers together and the clips are well worth it and I still go back to them today.
Mr. Ockeghem did GOOD with that gift!
He did! 🙂
Happy Valentine’s Day! 💕🌹
I started the day with Lush Rose Jam shower gel. Now, I am wearing L’Artisan Drole de Rose for the CP.
My neighbor next door stopped by earlier this morning to gift me a box of her homemade chocolate truffles. Very delicious! I deeply appreciate it.
Happy Friday, everyone!
Wow, lucky you!
😊
Have a happy weekend!
Thank you, Kanuka! Happy weekend to you, too.
So nice to see you here! 😊
Rose Jam shower gel is my favorite ❤️
Thank you, NinaV! 🌹
Rose Jam is also my favorite shower gel from Lush.
Twins on the shower gel🌹
Yay! 🌹🌹
Enjoy the truffles, and happy Valentine’s day to you!
Thank you, Tulipani! I am trying to resist not to eat all of them in one sitting!
I bet you’re a superb neighbor yourself to merit HOMEMADE truffles! And a fragrant neighbor at that!
Why, thank you! She and her husband are always nice, kind, and helpful neighbors. They loved the bouquet of roses I gave them to show my appreciation.
Homemade truffles! They must taste like heaven.
They are heavenly for sure! 😋
Chocolate truffles! Enjoy.
Thank you, Aurora!
Enjoy your truffles! It’s so nice to see you back!🤗
Thank you, Laila! I am so glad to be back! 🌹
Gee, it’s good to see you, pl67 ❤️Homemade truffles, what a treat!
Thank you, Ringthing! 🌷
How wonderful of your neighbors to drop by with those truffles! Enjoy!
Thank you, Jalapeno! It was very thoughtful of her.
So happy to see your post, PL67! 😍 Sending you hugs! 🤗
Thank you, She-ra! Sending hugs back. 💕
Belated happy Valentine’s Day to you pl67! What a sweet treat from your neighbor.
Thank you, therabbitsflower! 🌷
Spending the day in Kyoto after yesterday was Number One Intense.
And smelling great!
You smell lovely. It’s been a while since I last sniffed Number One Intense, but it’s always been in the back of my mind as a perfume I need to have.
https://www.rosesabc.com/en/village-maid-c1bc50f94455
I was in the cemetery yesterday and noticed a really pretty rose, creamy white with pink streaks which turned out to be a heritage , once-blooming rose from around 1815 called Village Maid ( though it’s a French rose originally). It had a wonderful scent, not deep plummy but full and very rosy ( think flushed cheeks rather than velvet bodice). The grave itself said “ in Loving Memory” . Nice. But for the CP aim taking inspiration from the beautiful full moon with Moonlight Patchouli
Wow, what a gorgeous rose!
It was really beautiful and it was in perfect condition. I hope I can find it again today…it’s a bit of a maze relocating graves
https://www.marcchagall.net/the-concert.jsp
Moon, Lovers, Paris and Marc Chagall for the CP
Thank you for the link, I adore Chagall, the use of colour, the sheer zest for life that his paintings evoke. I first saw his work (that I’m aware of) in Reims Cathedral, a stunning church even without Chagall’s windows.
My favourite work(s) of his are in the musée biblique in Nice, “Cantique des Cantiques”.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%89glise_Notre-Dame_de_Toute_Gr%C3%A2ce_du_Plateau_d%27Assy
This church in the hills at Col de Passy ( between Sallanches and Mt Blanc) is a remarkable place with art by Chagall, Roualt, Leger etc. built during the time when it was a place filled with TB clinics.

You can see pictures here
Thanks for that, I didn’t know and I went skiing near there as a child.
He did a lovely job in Mainz, of all places. The windows in St. Stephan there are beautiful, and created a nice place to sit and reflect while we lived there.
The rose sounds lovely, so few modern roses have a scent. The old cemetery near my place has a few old roses, but it’s nothing like the cemetery near you. My mother still has a couple of roses that she started as cuttings from there.
Kanuka, what a gorgeous story to go with that rose. In Loving Memory indeed! Cemeteries give hints of moving love stories in just a few words. Near my dad is a marker for a WWIi veteran where his wife inscribed “My darling Billy…” I have always imagined that they were grade school sweethearts who married after he survived the war. In Loving Memory…. So potent a sentiment! Vive L’Amour!
Both the rose and your fragrance sound beautiful!
Those heritage roses can be heartbreakingly beautiful. One of the museums down in Denver used to have a rose garden nearby, but that was decades ago.
I love roses with a scent! I commented to Mr. Ockeghem today that there were many, many people at Whole Foods buying overpriced roses with no scent. He apologized for not buying me flowers today, but he didn’t mean it because he knows I don’t like overpriced stuff for Valentine’s Day (restaurant dinners, flowers) and I don’t like flowers that don’t smell. 🙂 Instead he bought me a FB of Fox in the Flowerbed. I’ll take that!
But I adore roses that smell. There were so many of them when we lived in Germany, but they’re so hard to find here.
My SOTD is Hilde Soliani Orgasmo. Now, wait, don’t get the wrong idea about my view of Valentine’s Day. ;-). I’m wearing it because it’s very warm and cuddly. Kind of like a very sweet-smelling fluffy kitty (I have one, my real boyfriend, on my lap right now!).
Hope you and Romeo kitten ( or Cupid Cat) have a lovely day and indulge in all sweet things
I once had a handsome white cat we named Romeo because we found him lost on a cold, snowy Valentine’s Day. Interestingly, he lived up to his name – not only did he love us but he loved the other cats in the household and when we brought a puppy home, he greeted him by weaving in and out of his legs rubbing and purring a big welcome!😻
Love Romeo’s story! 🤍
😂😂😂
A “fluffy kitty” scent is a great idea for Valentine’s Day! 😻
I need to try her scents!
Good morning on a sunny Saturday – I love those two words!
I think I’ll start the day in Annick Goutal’s Le Chèvrefeuille. It doesn’t last long, so I might move on Guerlain’s AA Figue-Iris for the afternoon.
Le chèvrefeuille is so so pretty!
YAY for sun!!
Shower gel of the day: Lush Rose Jam
Lotion of the day: Weleda Wild Rose Pampering Body Lotion
SOTD: POAL
Roses all the way🌹
You smell fantastic! 🌹🌹🌹
Thanks pl67. Definitely rosy🤣
You smell amazing!
Thanks my friend.
We are house twins!
👍
Kris, if there were a Gold Medal for Fragrance Laying, you would win it! Talking about Basking and Basking! Do give that combination a unique name – it’s a keeper worthy of repeating!
I try to layer with shower gel and lotions if possible. Years ago, some of the perfumes had shower gels and lotions to go with them. That is not the case anymore. When they started discontinuing them, I had to find other ways to layer. Many of my shower gels and some lotions/creams are from Lush or Bath and Body Works. Alot of the ideas I have gotten from people on here.
Smelling wonderful as always 🌹
Thanks ringthing!
Rose Jam is one of my favorites from LUSH!
I didn’t used to like it, but I do now.
Funny how that happens sometimes. 🤪
Happy Valentines and fragrant hugs to this lovely bunch.
Post shower JM Velvet Rose & Oud again.
I wore this yesterday probably for the first time in forever and I smelled so good at bedtime I am repeating.
Adding that scent to my “to try” list 📝
I haven’t smelled your SOTD but I love and enjoy YR’s Rose Oud, especially this time of year.
JM Velvet Rose & Oud is perfectly named. You can almost feel the rose petals in that one.
I started the day in L’Artisan Mon Numero 10 because I just got a small bottle and am enjoying this Duchaufour creation.
But for Valentine’s Day, I’m going to wear my beloved’s Eau Sauvage❤️
Eau Sauvage is perfect, always.
Agree agree agree!!!
It’s quite romantic to wear your beloved scent on a special day!
I’ve picked an alternative amorous flower to the rose for today, going all jasmine in Portrayal woman. I have nothing romantic planned for the day, but I plan to eat some chocolate and look forward to the long weekend. Happy Valentine’s day, lovely scented folks!
Happy Valentine’s day, tulipani🌷
Enjoy that chocolate!
Jasmine is a great alternative to rose for Valentine’s Day!
Happy Valentine’s Day to this spectacular community! Already reading through I’ve learned about sculpture, literature, music, roses, romance and read moving recollections! Looking forward to even more posts!
Sotd The Harmonist Moon Glory. A fragrance that my body chemistry loves because I always get compliments even from strangers. Mr Engineer even likes it!
A Florence Henderson appreciation: as a teenager I worked as a summer camp counselor locally with one of her sons. Great, down to earth guy, reflecting I believe his upbringing. She used to pick him up from work sometimes, and she was so lovely with everyone.
That’s a great story!
Thanks lillyjo! I think she was a great lady balancing, balancing career and motherhood (kinda being a mom to a whole generation in some ways).
Your scent sounds really nice.
By the way, did you see thegoddessrena is giving away a box of samples if you call “dibs” on her post and then email her? This would be a way for you to try some other scents. It doesn’t look like anyone else has claimed it.
No gosh I must have missed it. Been reading the thread from bank, dry cleaner, supermarket, Macy’s.
And thank you- Moon Glory has very different notes than my others: Top notes are Ylang-Ylang, Hawaiian Jasmine and Litchi; middle notes are Honey, Passion Flower and Lady of the Night Flower; base notes are Peru Balsam, White Musk and Hinoki Wood.
Also, CONUS means the Continental United States. She had that on her post. There are quite a few people from other places in the world on here. She will only ship to people in the US.
Sounds like Moon Glory is a perfect perfume match for you. 😉
Mr Engineer has made a few jokes about Mooning in my Glory.
I went with Sora Dora Brocéliande. It is fresh and citrus but also ultra gourmand caramel and I am enthralled. If I had to pick a single fragrance to wear for a week, I’d pick this. Me, the not super into gourmand fragrance person. Shows that our tastes can shift and encompass a much wider range than ever imagined.
Be well.
Your perfume sounds intriguing, fresh citrus and caramel aren’t a common perfume pairing. And you are so right about our tastes changing to encompass a wider range. I wish I could smell things I sampled 20 yrs ago with the experienced nose I have now, especially the ones I didn’t like.
There are some surprisingly sophisticated caramel fragrances out in the wide world!
My girlfriend would prefer that I not wear perfume at all. This, as you can imagine, is problematic.🙄
She appreciates my passionate, perfumed life, and has remarkable patience for her obsessed partner. But she’s very sensitive to fragrance, so I wear it sparingly around her, and only really douse myself when I’m out of the house. And, of course, I’m always ready to hit the showers if I’ve chosen something that really bugs her. (I have an ever-growing list of perfumes I must NEVER wear around her, and any items of clothing that retain a hint of these must be laundered immediately.)
She’s okay with traditional “male” scents like Antaeus, Aramis, Paco Rabanne Pour Homme, etc., applied lightly.
Among the olfactory culprits, florals cause a lot of trouble. If I spray Carnal Flower or Beloved, I better be heading out the door, and undergo a Silkwood-style shower upon returning home.
Since it’s Valentine’s Day, I’m wearing the one fragrance she absolutely adores smelling on me: Bel Ami from Hermes. Fortunately, I love it, too.🥰
Daniel, that is a moving example of the dance of love where you accommodate each other! Bravo!
Awwwwwwwwwwwww!
Welp, that is a great one, Daniel Smelling good.
Happy Valentines Day!
I’m working tonight and under another advisory. After tonight though I am off for 3 days!
I picked Devotion for my sotd. 1. Because of the name and 2. Because I just love it so much.
You are devoted to Devotion, pun absolutely intended! Hurray on the 3 days off after today’s shift.
Lol! It’s true!
Be safe tonight Lillyjo, happy for you about the three-day we. Devotion is a masterpiece.
Thanks Aurora!
Enjoy your forthcoming days off and Devotion. I heard so much about this scent I recently bought myself a bottle, first one in a long time. Other than a quick spray, I’ve not yet fully worn it but I’m looking forward to it soon!
Hope you love it!
Did you look at the Devotion lotion (rhyme intended) Robin posted today?
Have nice days off. You deserve it!
I haven’t had a chance yet but will. Maybe I will treat myself after the drive home. Lol.
Ideal selection for all your reasons lillyjo! Maybe your divine scent make those hours working fly by! Enjoy your 3-days off!
Thank you!
I hope your shift goes fast and your break goes slowly! Wouldn’t that be great?
The weather has been annoying and we’re under an advisory also, but my mom and I were talking about how winters always used to be like this. Last year we hardly had a winter.
True about winter. We were spoiled last year for sure.
Get home safe tonight friend. Big huzzah for a 3-day weekend for you!
Just heard that yet another “polar incursion” is headed my way next week. UGH! 😒🤬
I made it safe and sound!
Happy Valentine’s Day! 💘 Smelling divine in Clouds Illusion Parfum 👼🏻
You do smell absolutely divine!
All the Clouds variations are so beautiful. Thank you again for the Clouds Parfum. 🤗 I got lucky scoring the Clouds Illusion Parfum in the January refill sale.
Good to see you posting today, She-ra!
Thanks, Jalapeno! 🤗 Work has been so busy 😣 but I am going to try posting more…I feel out of the perfume loop which is stressful for me. eheheh 😉 But it really kind of is.
While I don’t participate in the holiday, I do love the aesthetics of Valentine’s Day, from the pinks and reds, the heart shaped chocolate boxes, vintage Valentines, etc. My partner and I celebrate our anniversary just under 2 weeks after VD so we just focus on that. But today I’m wearing a perfume that was a Christmas gift from him years ago, Ineke Sweet William.
This weekend we’ll be busy going to a film noir festival. This is our third year attending, and we love it. The weekend showings are hosted by film noir expert and TCM host, Eddie Muller. His intros are so fun, and the crowd at the festival is always easy going and you see some of the same faces each year. I also love that it introduces me to films I’ve never heard of before. Tonight we’re going to see one that was set in Hawaii called Hell’s Half Acre. Tomorrow night will be Cry Danger, and we’ve got two to see Sunday afternoon as well. Most of these will be in 35mm and will be shown in a bigger, more modern theater than usual so I’m looking forward to comfy seats, an extra large screen, and chocolate popcorn. This year’s theme is Femme Fatales so I’ll see what perfumes I can wear for the theme that will be muted enough for a movie audience.
Sounds like a fun plan! If you have Pacifica Mexican Chocolate, that would be perfect 🤩!
I love this Pacifica scent, will be wearing this one this month, too.
I don’t have that one, but trust me, the smell of chocolate popcorn permeates the lobby of the theater! I do have some other chocolate perfumes, but I think eating/smelling the popcorn will do the trick. 😉
Enjoy your film festival this weekend. I, too, enjoying seeing films I may not be familiar with at our monthly classic film series. It’s at a historic movie theater near our house and hosted by a young librarian who does this as a hobby and also provides a lot of interesting background info about what we’re seeing. It’s not only entertaining but educational as well.
We’re both so lucky to have historic movie theaters in our neighborhoods!
What a great film festival – you’ll be sure to have a great time! Looking forward to hearing about your Femme Fatale fragrance!
I hope I think of some good ones. 😀
Your weekend sounds like so much fun, I love Eddie Muller and Noir Alley on TCM. Have a good time!
Thanks, and nice to see a fellow Noir Alley and Eddie Muller fan!
Enjoy your movie weekend!
Maybe something from Soivohle would fit the bill? (The pun just kinda slipped out….)
Eddie is a wonderful guy! Love him. He is 100% authentic and dedicated. So glad that noir is getting some love here as it’s a particular passion of mine. I’m not surprised there is some crossover from noir to the perfume world. So many great movies & scents.
Wow, so you know Eddie?? That’s awesome.
I’ve really delved down the noir rabbit hole in the last, oh 3 or 4 years, and it just makes me wish I’d gotten into it earlier. I love exploring it so much, and there were so many amazing actors in the movies. Some were also big stars beyond the genre, and some were masters of noir and most at home there. People who don’t watch older movies are really missing out!
Happy Valentines Day to all!
SOTD = Frederic Malle Iris Poudre
Inspired by Kris and LesLiesse! I love this perfume in my favorite iris! 🤍🤍🤍

This Sunday we will be celebrating an aunt’s 88th birthday. I originally had plans to celebrate a friend’s birthday but one would think my aunt’s birthday may be “more important” if only from the standpoint that she probably won’t have many more to go, at least from the standpoint that she is in recovery from cancer (not her first bout) but kudos to her for forging on!
Happy birthday to your aunt and many more healthy ones to follow! Yay for forging on and having people who care about her to celebrate with her!🥳
Of course, you smell divine!
I defer to the divinely scented Kris in her rose fragrance trifecta on all matters Iris Poudre related. (But it was a first time experience to be hugged by a loved one and told how fantastic I smell – my body eats up most scent’s sillage within a ridiculously short time!)
Happy birthday to your Aunt and your friend! Maybe you will be able to celebrate with your friend at a later date?
Your dedication and love for your aunt is wonderful to read about hajusuuri! Blessings upon you!
Happy Birthday to your Aunt!
For today’s cp, I’m going Old School with Avon’s Here’s My Heart, a vintage aldehydic floral from the late 1950’s (my bottle may be from the 80’s/90’s, haven’t worn it in a long while), woody and mossy and slightly powdery; I smell a lot of carnation. I’m thinking of my mom today, whom I lost when I was just 25 and she was only 58. I don’t know if she wore this one, but she loved fragrance and I remember the Avon lady visiting us regularly and numerous scents around. Happy Valentine’s Day, Mom, and thank you for so much, not the least of which is planting the seed of love of fragrance within me. ❤️
It’s been a cold, snowy, ‘wintry mix’ week, with more to follow this weekend, but it’s been a busy, fun week for us. Earlier this week, we went to our local library for a wonderful piano program, combining not only ‘romantic’ music but also music from the ‘romantic era,’ a unique combination of popular and classical music. Yesterday it was a celebration of Chinese New Year, again at the library, complete with dinner and a history of Chinese and Cantonese food. Fascinating! Also saw ‘Casablanca’ in our monthly classic film series on the big screen – wow, they just don’t make them like that anymore! Now I’m in the middle of a Virtual Dulcimer Fest, with online classes and concerts with the instrument I first fell in love with years ago when we accidentally stumbled on an Appalachian mountain music fest. I finally treated myself to an instrument a couple of years ago and am just now learning how to play it. We’ll be closing out the week with a Valentine’s concert tomorrow with my very favorite musician, cellist Ian Maksin. 🎶. It’s been a beautiful week and I am truly grateful 🙏for all these blessings!
Sending love out into the universe to all of you for a wonderful Valentine’s Day and weekend ahead!🥰😘
What a beautiful memory of your mother and the Avon Lady! Chinese New Year sounded memorable and yummy! Did you wear a wood perfume in honor of the wood snake?
No, didn’t wear a wood perfume yesterday but that was a good idea! It’s been such a busy week I didn’t even think of it. I have many rose fragrances on my vanity this month, so I just quickly grabbed Pacifica Persian Rose and wore that. It was rather exotic and actually worked quite well.
Just resaw the ending of your jam-packed post! Laila may the love in the Universe circle back around and bless you for sending it to all of us!
Thank you! It’s been absolutely delightful having you join this wonderful community! Sending more love out into the universe . . . 😘😘😘
A touch of bittersweet in your first paragraph there. Hugs, Laila. Losing a parent that young leaves a mark for sure.
Thank you. And I lost my dad when I was only 14 and my mom 11 years later. As an only child, I was an orphan @ the age of 25. I was married by then but I remember for the longest time walking home from the train station after work thinking, I’m an orphan, I’m an orphan. I always envied so much people who were fortunate to be able to grow old with their parents.
I wasn’t quite aware of the CP but as I had been indulging myself in Guerlains this week (Shalimar, L’heure bleue and Jicky) I finished the week in Mon Exclusif.
Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
I hope you have a happy weekend and that your work for the concours went well.
I had earlier asked whether your concours was car related as in a Concours d’élégance. I don’t recall your answer so excuse me if you’re repeating.
Hope your weekend is a good one as well, austenfan!
Having a suitably Valentine drink, frozen cherries and yogurt smoothie.
It was traditional rose for the day with Chloe Rose essentielle intense again which is still detectable on my wrist, good longevity for a scent of light rose, it has a light nutty aspect. Tonight it’s a different rose, Calligraphie Rose but saw tonight for the firs time that ambergris is listed on Fragrantica, the horror but my nose which can ferret out any hint of that dreaded note does not register on this one, only beautiful, sweet, incensey balsams of all kinds, so CR stays in the collection, no oud either, it’s an original rose among my other roses.
Fellow ambergris hater here 👋
I’m at the drydown stage now and it still didn’t appear thankfully.
Aurora, to answer your question from yesterday, mochi is a Japanese dessert made from sticky rice. Traditional fillings include red bean paste and a green tea mixture.
The ice cream version has a thin layer of mochi wrapped around the ice cream center and is flavored the same as the ice cream.
OMG I LOVE mochi and so does all my family. I have spent **way** too much on buyingtraditional mochi over the years (not the icecream filled one but I like that one too!) but it is such a delectable snack and we are lucky to live near several Japanese communities known for mochi. We also make Hawaiian mochi cake and a neighbor of my father in law has introduced us to ‘micorwave mochi,’ a hack for sure but it satisfies the craving for that glutinous flour when you really need it and stat.
Thank you Jalapeno, it sounds delicious.
Wearing CSP Vanille Banane today. I was needing something a bit fun and joyful.
Needed something to beat the February chill? 🥶🥶
Song of the Day: https://youtu.be/E0LAs7X5ybE
As the resident grouch about Valentine’s Day here at NST, I’ve posted a link to this song every year for a while now.
SOTD = Poison EdT. Just to put an exclamation point on the song of the day, lol. But I have been enjoying this fruity tuberose all day. My bottle is the current formulation, and is reasonably close to my (maybe not accurate) memory of the vintage.
Maybe I should have picked an Alice Cooper song instead? 🤔
This made me laugh ❤️
Glad to be of service! 🤣
One of the really nice aspects of the piano concert we went to that I mentioned above was that the pianist played music that celebrated all aspects of ‘love,’ not just what we traditionally celebrate on Valentine’s Day, including love between friends, parent/child, country, etc. He carefully explained the background of each piece of music and which kind of love he felt it honored. How I wish our library recorded their programs but, unfortunately, they don’t. If they did and if I could send it to you, it just might change your feelings about this Day. 🤗
I could have gone with the theme a local radio station had for the lunch hour today: chocolate! 😉
I was wandering in and out of the room but did hear part of it and it made me happy!
Classic video ! I think personally that you’re waaay too nice to be the official grouch or even the self-annointed one. Love pessiMIST perhaps and fragrant all the way jalapeño!
It’s the overemphasis on romantic love that doesn’t sit well with me. The ancient Greeks had the right idea, with their 6 different kinds of love…
Totally agree w you! Part of the reason I adore Galentine’s Day where friends celebrate friends.

The Bitterest Pill by The Jam, to add to your list
Ooooooooooh, thanks for the suggestion!
The Jam!👍🤘
Smelling great! I still love Poison; the cold weather is perfect for it so I may have to wear it tomorrow.
Some of those groups back in the day! How about Nazareth?
Oh, Nazareth twins! Just saw your post after I posted the same. 😂
I remember Poison being HUMUNGOUS back in the day. Definitely not the case today, which TBH is kind of a relief.
Nazareth “Love Hurts” is also a good one. 💔

Yes, it is!
I was watching AC Poison just the other day!
AC Poison?
Here’s another video I know you would appreciate: https://youtu.be/wXmSQ-dMbhE
Video is not the greatest quality, though. 😢

YES!! I had this as an earworm when I was putting on my SOTD.
Love Def Leppard 🤘
I’m sure I have, but I don’t remember ever seeing that video. It really is pretty funny!
J. Geils was one of my favorite groups way back when for their cheeky sense of humor. It really shows in that video.
haha I’m with you Jalapeno.
Appreciate the company!
Similar but different slant…https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pVM5zGO53eQ
My love perfume is Coco but I just wasn’t in the mood lol. My Phlur vanilla hair mist is making me crave vanilla everything so I layered the mist with Nicolai Vanille Tonka, probably my favorite vanilla perfume. They smell wonderful together and I got a compliment at the pharmacy, which was nice.
Fragrant hugs, NST 🌹
Smelling fabulous over there, ringthing!
Perfume compliments are a wonderful thing to get, but especially so on Valentine’s Day!
So glad the Phlur worked out!
I bet you smell scrumptious!
So I was going to post about wearing Black by CdG because that’s how I see this cynically commercial holiday where one is **supposed** to be all romantic and stuff, but my morning started out with a bang while hiking when our dog ecstatically rolled in some kind of wildlife poop, which she almost never does, until she does. So after finishing our hike it was bath time inside because it was too cold for the hose outside, with water flying everywhere, and a horridly fruity dog shampoo purchased by the DH which I’m sure the dog cringed at, mingling with the scent of poop, wet dog, and water vapor.
After drying her off (she weighs 70 lbs so it takes awhile), I had to take a shower myself and do laundry, then as I was getting ready to choose a perfume, we got a text from our fellow hiker that he’d discovered a tick on his ankle. That of course prompted much skin checking among us humans and then re-checking the dog after her bath, but no further ticks were sighted, though I did pick one off of her several days ago. (way too early in the season, thank you global warming).
Still, that put me in a twitchy mood so it was awhile before I picked my SOTD, which is Vol de Nuit Evasion from Guerlain, which came and went and was marvelous and HTF and now it’s gone forever but it reads quite romantic to my jaded eye and I wish I had more than a decant. Oh well. I recall how some years ago, fragrancenet.com had somewhat mistakenly listed this masterpiece for $50 online and a lot of the old MUA crowd snapped up the bottles. Those are long gone now, but it was quite an exciting time. Sadly, I sold my bottle to chase after some new niche thing when I should have kept it, it’s Guerlain for goodness sake, so the decant will have to do me. I haven’t worn it in a long time but it’s gorgeous! Have a great Valentine’s Day, everyone.
Oy vey! That’s the wrong kind of excitement.
Oh no, all the dog scent! So sorry!
