It’s Thursday, Waitangi Day, Bob Marley’s birthday and National Frozen Yogurt Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I am community project compliant in the original Marni.
Reminder: 2/7 is Rose Day, but we've already done rose for a Friday project at least twice, so we'll put a spin on it this time...wear your favorite fragrance that has a rose note but doesn't smell primarily of rose, or wear a rose fragrance layered with something that tones down the rose.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2025, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Hello.
Sotd is Lush Sweet Pea. Medicinal, herbal floral with some vanilla. A little odd but it’s pleasant enough.
Tried coconut milk latte from a cafe yesterday and it was very good. Tried recreating one this morning. Not bad for a first attempt!
“Odd but pleasant” is my favorite Lush category 😉
I’m intrigued to know what other scents are in this category!
Kerbside Violet & Turmeric Latte, maybe Furze which I love and which I totally regret not buying when you could still find it in small sizes. And 25:43. I’m sure there are more!
Oh, The Voice of Reason!
“Odd but pleasant” could also be a community project.
Yes!
I remember sniffing that. At the time it seemed a little sharp to my sniffer, but I like sweet pea scents, framing it as medicinal is a good way to put it.
I’m wearing Dame Chocolate + Rose, and on my skin, the chocolate is currently dominating the rose, although the rose is definitely there. Nice enough to pay for a full bottle.
Chocolate plus rose is so nice. I got the new Lush Posh Choc lotion so may try some layering this weekend.
Continuing my Chanel week in Jersey- a nice cuddly scent for a snowy wet day. Tea and a book are in my future.
Clean face and Chanel lippy in color Nuance
Tea and a book in my future too 🙂
Ooo Jersey is very pretty, You smell lovely.
It’s very serene
I associate Jersey with you, I have a big bottle too.
I always feel cuddly and calm when wearing this. Also a great scent for the library when I am volunteering.
I’m going with Cuir Cannage today, and am going to see if I can suss out the rose note it allegedly has. This one is my biggest regret — should have invested in a bottle while it was still available in a reasonable size (and at a reasonably reasonable price).
We all have our regrets 🙂
Our biggest regrets is a great CP idea (I’m sure it’s been done many times in different versions). It might end up being a Swapmeet Light, where we can help each other turn mourning to joy!
Oh that’s a nice idea!
I like this idea! I could do the whole week.
That’s a great idea, allo!
I love it! But…must we limit it to fragrance?
I have so many other regrets 🙂
LOL!
We did do this as a project but the problem is that most of our biggest regrets are the ones that got away…so therefore there is nothing to wear, or people are hoarding the little bit they have left!
I might be your scent twin tomorrow and see if I can detect any rose! I just stumbled upon the mini of Cuir Cannage last night while rummaging through my collection of minis.
Bengale Rouge after my shower, which will come after my coffee.
Stoked about the new bike I bought yesterday. Light as a feather. Smooth as silk. Pretty as a picture. Very minimal except that bike components have come a long way since I bought my last bike in 2019. And so have prices…💸💸💸
NOT stoked about work tonight, which is number one of four in a row. God help me! 😅 There are a couple night nurses here that work 6 in a row every week…😵💫 I don’t know how.
Be well, with a special shout out to the sick and injured. 🤕
Dave, another cyclist here. What type of bike did you buy-road, mtn, hybrid? I have a road and mtn bike. Love to see women on wheels!
Hi Dave, I bought a hard tail. I haven’t been a “real” mountain biker since I had an eye injury back in 2013 (significant spacial issues). Plus, I lived in Florida most of my adult life so our version of off roading was biking along the Hillsborough River, avoiding cypress knees and gators. Anyway, the park I’m working at all summer has an attached mountain bike park with trails from beginner (me!) to double black Diamond (everyone else!) plus there are paved bike paths outside the park for when I want an easy, uncomplicated ride. Hope I don’t break my neck! I used to live for biking and I really hope the joy of it comes back to me this summer. Enjoy both your bikes! Sounds like you have a great set up. 🙂
I can’t believe auto correct changed you from Deva to Dave-I’m so sorry.
Ack! I didn’t even catch that…😜
Good for you, Deva!!
Congrats on the new bike! Carbon fiber? I’m guessing since it’s light as a feather.
Also, Minnesota??!! The summer gig sounds awesome! I’m curious whereabouts. I may be biased, but I think the Midwest is a beautiful place to spend the summer, it gets so lush and green.
Not carbon fiber as I’m not rich and it will live mostly on the front bumper of my truck. However, I have decided for long treks it will live on my dinette seat because it also wasn’t cheap! It’s much lighter that my previous bike and I can lift easily with one hand to the bike rack. I was born and raised in the Midwest (what used to be a little cowtown southwest of Chicago) and I agree 100% with you about midwestern folks. The only reason I never contracted there as a nurse was because of the wildly fluctuating weather and temps over a 13 week stint. Not a problem this summer as I will have hookups to run the A/C. Looking forward to ushering in spring, then summer, then fall! It’s a heavily wooded area and of course has numerous lakes. I thought about you because there was video of a couple kayaking and portaging from lake to lake to do the entire chain. I know you’re a kayak lover!
Is your new bike an E-bike?
No, old school pedal. The better way to get a workout. 🚲
Vintage Coco edt with a drop of vintage parfum, for a visit to my daughter. I don’t smell rose, just a beautiful blend. If anything stands out to me, it’s the clove.
You guys, I have been stuck on the last three pounds of my weight loss for weeks and it’s annoying as all get out. I’ve made my health goals but that pound loss of 100 eludes me. But on the positive I am down 6 dress sizes, 1.5 shoe sizes and 3 ring sizes, which is just amazing to me.
Thanks for letting me vent and brag 😊
Wow ringthing! That IS amazing! Good for you!
My mom was down 75 pounds January 1 from one year ago. I’m so proud of her. Committing to getting healthier is not always easy.
Also, you smell great.😊 Enjoy your daughter day.
That’s awesome about your mom!
House twins!
Congrats on achieving your health goals.
Thanks ltsg!
Seconding madtowngirl, wow indeed! It’s no easy feat and you should be proud of yourself. I’m sure the last 3 lbs are also exponentially harder than the first 3, so give yourself more time. We’re here if you need to vent!
Thanks tulipani!
Applause, applause! Don’t let that 3 pounds mar the joy of your achievement! Maybe you’re right where you’re supposed to be. 👏
I think of that too, like maybe this is just what I weigh now, which is fine but I’d still like to hit the number. For me to weigh what I did when I graduated from high school, I’d have to lose 38 more pounds 😳 No way!
amazing ringthing! I had no idea that shoe size could go down. congratulations!
Coco is my pick for tomorrow. like you I mostly smell clove and spices. I didn’t even know it had rose until saw it mentioned here once. you smell great. have a nice visit!
Yes even shoes, who knew??
Sorry!!! I have been there, many times over. But you are so close, as long as you are not gaining I would try to not let it get you down.
I’m pretty paranoid about gaining.
Oh, so am I. My weight has been at goal for years now, and yet 2-3 pounds over is still my max…if I take on 2 or more (invariably, eating out + cocktails + french fries), it’s all hands on deck til it’s gone. I know how hard it will be to lose it again, so putting on 5 pounds is just not worth it to me.
So anyway, don’t lose hope, the last few are the hardest but you will get there! Your body does not want to give up the pounds, for good reason, but your brain will win eventually.
Ringthing you’ve earned the right to brag long and loud and fragrantly! Bravo! Well done you! You’re quite inspiring!
Congrats! A great accomplishment. The shoe size thing is a hoot!
I’m so excited for you – reaching your health goals is a huge win!
Bravissima! Don’t let the three pounds you haven’t lost – yet – keep you from celebrating yourself for such an accomplishment!
Congratulations on your achievement, you deserve to brag!
ringthing – as a lifetime member of the 100 pound club, I also lost a full shoe size and had to get the links on my watch resized.
It’s been 31 years since. Not gonna lie, hard to keep off. Gained about thirty back about 6-7 years ago, but got it off. Don’t sweat the three pounds. You have been on an amazing journey. Brava!!
The utter joy of my exhusband not recognizing me at divorce court was the BIGGEST payoff of all. 🙂
Apsara, that’s a deeply satisfying payoff! Bravo! N
Oh wow, what an awesome payoff!
Revenge body for the win!
ringthing, that is fabulous and you should brag all you want. Congratulations!
Thank you all for your kind words 🌹
So cool that you have achieved your health goals! Down 3 ring sizes? Wow.
Keep up the most excellent work!
Congratulations! That’s so exciting. Brava on all the hard work.
I am late reading through this week’s posts…wonderful job, ringthing! ♥️
Thanks, She-ra!
I’m in 10 Corso Como for the cp. Yesterday was Tam Dao. Two of my favorite sandalwoods that both have rose in there somewhere.
Lillyjo, I ran out of time to get back to you the other day. No, we haven’t had much snow this year. Just brown lawns and gray skies. Ugh, it’s starting to suck the life out of me. But! The sun is out today!🌞 Melting away the layer of ice everything had on it this morning from the dreaded wintry mix we got overnight. When I went out to my car this morning, my neighborhood was filled with the sound of scraping windshields.
wintery mix here too last night, and now high winds. enjoy the Sun!
A grey and brown winter is the worst! At least snow looks pretty for a little while.
It’s sunny here, and really cold-minus 20 C. Which means Le Lion, because it smells so good in the cold. Just had some pasta with bacon and mushrooms for lunch so I’m happy. but I must be tired cause I am dropping everything.
I almost went with le Lion today- maybe I will dab some later
It’s cold and rainy this morning, and I’m wearing Jungle l’Elephant. A kitchen sink scent with alas, no rose. Even if it did, the spices would most definitely drown it out.
Trying to hang in there until the weekend, although we have a busy one ahead. I’ve been talked into hosting a Superbowl party. It should be fun, but of course a bit of prep and work. Our friend’s sweet teen daughter is coming and I am looking forward to spending some time with her. She’s very into crafting and I hope to have enough room to set up a little crafting corner for us.
I came this close 👌🏼 to l’Elephant today! You smell fabulous!
You smell so good!
I hope you have a great time with your friend’s daughter 😊
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/feb/04/elephant-birth-oregon-zoo?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other
The name of the elephant that gave birth to a calf at Oregon zoo a few days ago is ROSE-Tu…there’s always a link, somehow!!
This brought a chuckle and smile! What a wonderful mama and baby pair.
Thank you Kanuka for putting a smile on my face!
It turns out we’ve had the coldest January since 2017 ( not that long, really) . I noticed that acorns are just beginning to form on the oaks. At the moment they’re 75% ‘cap’ , so they tend to look pretty funny, like little kids with beanies pulled over their eyes. The maples and chestnuts are also turning golden/ red. The wild honeysuckle is just flowering. And our garden is full of red hot poker flowers. They overrun the place but look pretty cool for a week or two. All orange and yellow. Beginning to leave the green phase of the year and enter the yellow. Wearing Dune which has rose as a minor chord.
I’m sorry your summer has been so cold. maybe it will bring you a warm winter.
I think I will copy you today in Dune.
Sorry about the weather
I’m wearing Messe de Minuit. It’s in the front row and easy to reach.
Maybe “Front Row Fragrances” should be our next CP?! 🙃
+ a beautiful incense.
Last sample of the Scentrique discovery pack for January today: Initio OFG NEO. It’s definitely an oud scent, pretty straight up. I’m not sure it “captures an ‘Anything is Possible’ outlook”, as claimed by the ad copy, though. (Hmm, what IS the scent of “anything is possible”?) If it ever fades, I’ll go for something prettier and CP-compliant.
For me, that is Aftelier Candide! And that sounds like another community project!
Spending the day in vintagish no 19 edp. It’s a 1.2 ounce bottle with a grey cap. If I were motivated, I could probably finish what’s left in a week or 2 if I was going to make it my sole perfume.
Do you want it gone though?
Stella today – lots of rose, but also lots of amber. I really like the combo. Ended up doing two yoga classes back to back this morning. Time for chores now. We have old friends coming this weekend to go on a ski trip with us next week, so I’ve got to spend a bit of time getting ready. And a trip to REI is also in our future this afternoon. My 20 year old goggles fell apart finally.
And I’ve just noticed that tulips and daffs have started to come up–just the first few inches of green. Spring WILL come!
The snowdrops were up here…until a foot of snow dropped on us and the temperatures plummeted below 0C for a week. Sigh.
Next week is going to be very cold here. But with just this little bit more light, I’m feeling spring.
Still too early here to see any early spring bulbs sprouting. Soon enough, though!
I’m in vintage Vent Vert from an adorable mini bottle of the parfum. It is really lovely stuff, and does list rose as part of it’s formula so I am both CP compliant and still in the green groove. Yesterday I was non-compliant (which come to think of it is pretty descriptive of my attitude in general) in Le Temps d’un Fete (another lovely green) for our trip to both Costco and Trader Joe, which at the moment has its Brazil Nut body products on the shelf. What an exciting life I lead! It is cloudy and very windy here, a good day to join the tea-and-a-book camp.
Ha, that is pretty much descriptive of my attitude as well 🙂
Major cold snap here after rain a couple days ago. Sheets of ice on all surfaces. Cleats permanently attached to our boots. But it will give me a chance to prune the water sprouts off the old apple trees, see if we can give them a new lease on life, the next day a glimmer of sun makes it marginally nice to be outside. Adorable hubby sold another one of the old vehicles. He has finally admitted to himself that he will never rebuild that Chevy transmission, or replace the driveshaft in the Honda, and we can use the cash rather than letting them lose more values sitting in the wet spot in the pasture. Sigh. But, money in hand will help him fight his “family farmer-everything might be useful later” hoarding tendencies. For me, wearing Irisss, which starts off irissy, but gets sweeter after several hours, and then over more time retreats to woods. I love the this stuff. Stay warm everyone!
Congrats on getting rid of the old car!
Thank you! I have no attachment to machines, but adorable hubby names them and treats them the way he treated his prize-winning calves as a child. It was painful to watch him struggle with the idea that he could and should let someone else fix that pickup and get some use out of it. The young man who bought it was so excited about it, that made hubby feel better. The truck has gone to a good home and will get lots of attention!
Beat, beat, eye roll…
In other news, Irisss is still going strong on the back of my hands…we all have our little things, and hubby never questions my collection!
Stay warm, those of you who have more cold air falling on you.
If that pickup was an old Chevy square body, those have become quite the hot thing among some gearheads I know. I don’t expect you to know what body style it was. 😉
Not that old. 2001, but it has an oversized engine and a front blade, suitable for clearing parking lots. We couldn’t put enough weight in the back to make it work for plowing our long narrow driveway, but we hauled a lot of hay with an old fifth wheel trailer, stacked up 12 round bales at a time.. One really hot day last summer the transmission sprang a leak. So sad. Hubby loved that thing because of the engine. It got about 4 miles/gallon. I doubt we’ll find another that will pull that old trailer overloaded like that. 🙂
I’m in Chergui today. There’s a rose note listed but it’s so well blended that I can’t decipher it.
I want to love Cherigui so much! But each time I order another sample, I get bug spray, numb lips, etc etc. I send it off to my sister, who has the same reaction and she passes it on to one of her quilting buddies who adores it, but as a practical Wyoming gal, won’t spend money of some bottle of juice that would just evaporate. All that woman’s discretionary income goes for fat quarters and whatever is the current quilting flash in the pan! 🙂 You smell fabulous!
Oooh! Cool. Haven’t worn Chergui in a long time, I may do tomorrow!
Sotd Nurture by Abel, a soft floral musk that is rose-adjacent for the CP.
Annual physical. 🙏 prioritized others’ health over mine since last year, and hope I haven’t done too much damage. Hence, (self) Nurture for Sotd.
Hope you have great results.
Waiting with baited breath for bloodwork!
Fingers crossed your physical was NBD.
🤞🤞🤞
Eau Lente – I spied the box and thought it was empty. Duh, almost full bottle inside.
Smells cozy, spicy, up my alley. No rose anywhere, though.
Sounds nice, tho!
Eau Lente is so lovely.
I’ve had a nice start to the day off, we went out early for breakfast, scented with Madame Rochas, and now I’m happily contemplating the rest of the day.
I just checked the notes, and Madame Rochas does of course include rose 🙂 .
Points plus a nice day!
I’m copying hajusuuri from yesterday by wearing Delina. I thought of it as a fairly full-on rose scent, but as she noted yesterday, there’s a lot of other notes in there, including rhubarb, bergamot, peony, etc. At any rate it is one of the fragrances I think of as just unreservedly “pretty.” Not a category I generally associate with myself and my own goals, but in this case I simply fell for it.
Right now I’m very much enjoying salt and pepper tofu at my favorite local Vietnamese place, while they’re playing old R&B songs on their music. I’m so happy here. The newspaper recently had a recipe for this but when I looked at it, it required deep-frying, which I just don’t do. So I thought I ought to try it someplace where they know what they’re doing. Delicious: the tofu cubes are a light golden salty-crispy on the outside and sort of custardy inside. They’re having Lunar New Year festivities here on Saturday, so it’s very nicely decorated now.
Somehow I have been busy lately although not with much of anything too demanding or important. This is what happens when you retire. Oh, I had my second class yesterday on Indian art, and it was interesting, though the teacher is not, I”m afraid, always the clearest. She is very knowledgeable and has great slides but I’m kind of longing to give her some teaching tips… Holding myself back. One thing I learned was the tremendous amount of trade, especially by sea, between parts of Asia and the Mediterranean. There are big hordes of Roman coins that have been found in Sri Lanka, for instance!
Interesting about the trade.
Delina is gorgeous.
I am going to do a Chanel tomorrow -but not sure which has a rose in it for the CP. Maybe Misia…
That salt and pepper tofu sounds so delicious!! My mouth watered reading about it.
That sounds interesting! I believe I sniffed Delina and was left “meh.” Maybe I was having a bad allergy day. I seem to be embracing “pretty” as a scent category! Maybe I will try again.
I know it isn’t a major point of your post but I have had great luck with preparing tofu in a tofu press, slicing it into cubes, tossing in a marinade of soy sauce, sherry, toasted sesame oil and a little cornstarch and then spreading on a cookie sheet and baking. Usually I turn the squares over once. The tofu gets a nice little crust minus the grease of deep frying.
Then I throw the tofu into the stir fry at the end. I was always having my tofu disintegrate before I figured out the above trick.
The tofu press I have is called Tofu Bud.
I quite like Delina also and agree that scent is just so pretty.
Shalimar, because I needed something warm, and apparently rose is somewhere there, among the floral notes I can’t detect: “Shalimar Eau de Parfum opens with a breeze of flowers and bergamot, warmed with notes of iris, jasmine and rose.”
You smell great, I have a big bottle of the parfum de toilette and I like it even better than my extrait.
Frozen cherries and yogurt smoothie
So, I reached for Calandre for very much front and center rose. Somehow, I usually pick Rive Gauche but Calandre is good too. A tip, make sure you pick bottles with evernia prunastri listed in the ingredients, this oldish bottle is as good as my true vintage. Tonight it’s AdP Vaniglia, my most elegant vanilla.
Can you compare Vaniglia to any other vanilla?
Well, I find it a bit similar to the drydown of Addict, it’s not very sweet but very powdery which makes it a winner for me.
Sounds like a winner for me too!
Lipstick Rose today. I couldn’t help myself bc it’s a travel spray bottle that’s going off and I have to use it up. So I’m full on rose🌹
it’s too bad about it starting to go off. Enjoy it while you can.
I definitely will. The “off” part blows off pretty fast and there’s not much left in the bottle – a good combo!😊
Boo for a perfume that’s going off! Hope that funk isn’t too grody.
This winter seems to be never ending. I’m so tired of being cold. I am copying Kanuka in Dune today. I can not wear this perfume without thinking of who and where I was when it came out, as it was a signature scent for a time. ( and sometimes it makes me feel melancholy)I don’t say this about many perfumes but Dune is a masterpiece imo.
Fortunately last night’s freezing rain was gone by early afternoon, but temps will be back down in the 20s tomorrow ☹️.
No doubt it’ll be too expensive, but D&G is releasing a Devotion body cream!
Oh I can’t wait to try the cream!
Masterpiece I agree, hope you will see an improvement in the weather soon.
Thanks Aurora, maybe March will be warmer.
I should try Dune in the winter sometime. Not sure I ever have.
I much prefer it in cold weather.
Dune is one of my desert island scents. I just found a vintage bottle, and have been enjoying it so much!
It’s definitely in my top 10. There’s really nothing else like it.
Bright and sunny today, but it’s also 15 to 20 degrees cooler than it was yesterday. Still, temps in the mid 40’s F for February isn’t bad at all. Enjoying it while it’s here, since the weather is going to cool off in a major way next week. (Glad I did a load of heavy duty wool socks yesterday evening.) Hoping for more snow!
SOTD = Flowerbomb EdP. There’s supposed to be rose in this, but I have never smelled it. The juice in my cute 50mL bottle has changed color, which tends to happen with vanilla-heavy perfumes. The Angel EdP I have has had the same color shift. Both perfumes still smell pretty darn good to me.
I have never been able to smell any flowers in flowerbomb.
I hope you get your snow!
I do get some kind of floral note for a little while, but it isn’t readily identifiable as rose. The bottle I have smells different than the travel sprays in my stash. Those are more recent and have never had any kind of flowers to my nose.
Flower bomb smells fantastic on my sister. On me it’s just not much. You smell great!
Thank you!
It’s 5PM my time. I just added some MDCI Fetes Persanes over the Francesca Bianchi Under My Skin from bedtime last night. UMS has amazing longevity! CP points for both.
It’s been sprinkling all day, and now that I’m about to drive to a birthday dinner, it is POURING.
I’ve been so busy with work, and we didn’t finalize this dinner plan until after the weekend, so I have no gift. And I don’t maintain a “just in case” gift stash. And it’s raining so hard, the idea of last minute shopping didn’t appeal. Especially when it would be like, oh, here, I picked up a generic candle for you.
I’m honestly not in regular gift-giving relationships with any of my very good friends. We’ll treat ourselves to nice meals, or occasionally give a random gift (when something perfect catches our eye ), but we’re at an age, have a lot of stuff already, will buy what we want for ourselves, that… the obligatory gift giving just isn’t a thing anymore.
But now I’m part of a newer friend group that does sometimes give each other gifts, and feeling a bit awkward but conflicted.
Take them out for a belated birthday lunch? Or a nice bottle of wine if they drink? You might pick a wine of the same vintage year as the birthday person’s.
😂 Friend group and I too old for the “wine of birth year”, it would be too expensive! Unless it was gut rot.
All was well, I wasn’t the only giftless attendee.
I’ll be seeing 3 of the group on Valentine’s, and 2 of the 3 just had recent birthdays, so I think I’ll just go over the top with some unexpected ❤️ day treats.
I wore Henry and Rose Sheep’s Clothing. I get the musk more than the rose in this one but if I smell myself, I would think I am wearing Glossier You. I layered over a light spritz of Solinotes Rose.
SOTD is Miss Dior Le Parfum, which I think has been discontinued. Lots of amber goodness with some rose. Not so different from Coco in some ways. A tiny spritz goes a long way.
