It's Young(ish) Guns Friday! Our community project for today: wear a perfume by Jérôme di Marino, Quentin Bisch, Fanny Bal or Dora Baghriche, if you have one. If you don't, see if you can think of another mainstream perfumer aged 45 or under that you can represent.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
It never occurred to me when I came up with the project for this week that I would not be able to participate, but that's how it worked out. I swear I have some Angel Muse hiding somewhere, maybe, but meanwhile I'm empty-handed. I'm smelling great anyway in Narciso by Narciso Rodriguez aka white cube.
Reminder: on 10/4, for National Cinnamon Roll Day, wear a fragrance with a cinnamon note.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

No idea if I am cp compliant as I don’t have the bandwidth to participate ….wearing Burberry Garden Roses over Jo Malone Red Roses body cream. I can’t stop sniffing myself
This sounds like a very nice combination.
It’s quite lovely if you like roses, which I do 🙂
I bet you smell fantastic!
I like to think I do 🙂
Ooh, you smell great!
Thank you!!!!
I bet that JM Red Roses body cream is so nice!
It is decadent 🙂
I wasn’t sure that I’d have anything for the cp either, but I scrolled the fragrantica listings for each perfumer, and there it was: Glossier You under Dora Baghriche. A collaboration with Frank Voelkl. Looks like the two new ones are just Frank. Looking forward to trying them. I also have a sample of Delina by Quentin Bisch, but I have an appointment later this morning and You is a bit quieter on me.
I got an email this morning that Victoria Beckham is releasing another fragrance. Geez. I don’t know how a person is supposed to keep up with all these new releases. Not that I try.
We are heading into another gorgeous warm fall weekend. Happy Friday everyone!
You smell nice.
Thanks!
Did you like any of the first releases from VB?
I liked her Portofino, but not enough to buy at those prices. TF Neroli Portofino is better imo and comes in a travel spray.
Two sprays of Cuir Velours (Julien Rasquinet) and one spray of Angel Muse (Quentin Bisch). Fun combo: sitting in a cosy café on a fine leather sofa and drinking chocolate liqueur.
Glannys that all sounds divine-hope you get some moments of peace today. Love your combination!
It is really good – sweet booziness with elegant leather. I even reapplied later in the evening before a walk.
Nice! Would t it be fun if we could teleport ourselves there?
Oh yes, scent teleporting would be so cool!
Gosh, I think you win the cp Glannys!
Thanks! ❣️
RIP Dame Maggie Smith
Cloudy day
Reading Intermezzo by Rooney
Tom Ford Rose de Russie.
Just came back here to say RIP Maggie Smith 🙁
That news made me so sad that I almost cried.
What is Rose de Rosie like? I haven’t heard of it.
Rose de Russie
I was in tears too
Oh no! She was a great, great actress.
I’m in Dojima, and I think Frederic Dalman is young. I couldn’t actually find anything about his age. Love this scent-dry spices over amber, with some nutmeg.
Raining here, which we badly need. Definitely feels like fall 🙂
Thanks for the inspiration, I didn’t think I would find anything by a yong perfumer! From his pictures Frederic Dalman seems quite young and graduated from university 2011.
SOTD Mona di Orio Suede de Suede, which is a perfume that truly evokes Swedish autumn.
Eva S-I love that fragrance too! And Cloudberries grow here, too-in Nova Scotia. You smell great 🙂
I was going to wear my sample of Zoologist Rabbit by Fanny Bal (from a lovely NSTer) but it’s a cool cloudy morning and Angel Muse sounded better. I keep looking for backup bottles of this one and realized my bottle is pretty full, so I can call off this search. Smells delightful!
Twins!
I think there are a lot of us today.
I’m in a favorite, Hermann à mes Côtés, developed by Quentin Bisch.
Oooh, if I were in my home home (the house I own but am not in until January), I could have worn that and smelled fabulous like you! 🙂
I didn’t think I’d have anything made recently enough to qualify for the CP, but to my surprise, Quentin Bisch is the nose behind 2015’s Mugler A*Men Ultra Zest, so that’s what I’m in today — a clever reworking of A*Men to front-load it with lots of citrus while still remaining recognizable. (That’s one thing you have to give Mugler credit for: the flankers aren’t just random compositions — they’re always based on their namesake.) It doesn’t have the lasting power of the original, despite all the patchouli in the base: it’s mostly gone in a few hours. But I’ll take ’em.
We need a new & fun A*Men flanker!
Bvlgari Black today. I’m CP-adjacent: I’m thinking Annick Menardo was under 45 at the time she created this one back in 1998. Yeah, kind of a stretch. Such a great fragrance!
Stretch or no stretch, you smell fabulous!
You smell wonderful. I miss my hockey puck, but it is awaiting me when I get home in a few months.
I’m wearing Kenzo Homme EdP – the 2022 Quentin Bisch reworking of it. For a mainstream “masculine,” it’s pretty darn good.
Perfect! I have not smelled it but I should.
Just found out that Maggie Smith had died. Didn’t realize she was 89, I knew she was up there.
Wearing Clinique Happy today. The perfumer who made it isn’t under 45 but Happy came out in 1998. So I am somewhat CP compliant.
That’s a good way to look at the CP and you do smell nice.
I am wearing a sample of Commes de Garçons Zero by Fanny Bal. I am on my second sample of this, haven’t made up my mind about a full bottle.
Beautiful sunny day and nearing the of a staycation. I am trying to get my nagging unfinished tasks done so I can spend more of my weekend outdoors. I did take a nice walk this morning.
Haven’t heard about that particular CdG before. What’s it like?
It is an abstract woody scent with a “varnish” note and some synthetic rose. Very light. Sometimes I am anosmic to these type of scents at first and then I can pick up the notes after wearing for a while but still seems pretty subtle.
Thanks for the overview!
In (under 45) Patrice Revillard’s L’Iris de Fath. It’s nice to know how Iris de Gris might have smelled🥰
Nice choice! ♥
Wonderful choice! The eau de parfum? So beautiful.
For those of you who would like to watch some Maggie Smith in a short interview with Graham Norton. Great fun!
Wearing Songes by Annick Goutal, I can’t think of any link with the CP so I won’t even try. Had a good day even though during most of it it was pouring with rain. Had a great lunch called “repas marcaire” and won’t need to eat for a good while.
I’ve loved all of the Dahlia pictures this week, they create such great splashes of colour.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cvicwsnyx2w&t=273s
The link to the interview mentioned above.
Thanks for this. Love, love, love Maggie Smith.
Thank you for this. She’s so funny! I adore her.
Oh, that was lovely, thanks so much!
So Camille Goutal was in her thirties when she made this-I think you made it for the CP , and you small sublime 🙂 thanks for the interview-I’ll save that for this evening.
Thanks for making me CP compliant!
Sorry about the rain (it was very weird here today but didn’t actually rain), but the lunch sounds wonderful. Have a good trip home!
Hello all!
My nerves were for naught, as I did get an A on my biochemistry exam. With a class average of only 56%…. I expect a lot of drops this weekend.
I’m sweating it out today in Texas. I heard could front but 85°F isn’t really that much cooler, honestly. I’m wearing Bee by Zoologist, which is fine, but doesn’t really capture my fancy. I haven’t met a Zoologist that has yet….
Have a great day!
Congratulations on the A! Yay! Now you deserve a reward. Hmm, what should it be? It’s still hot here, I agree, but wow, that lower humidity makes it feel pretty heavenly to me!
Thank you! The reward was a glass of wine as I made risotto. 😂
Oh, congratulations Coumarin! That is great news.
I appreciate it. 🙏
Congratulations!
Thanks!
Congratulations!
Thank you! 😁
What a good outcome after all your hard work. Congratulations
Thank you, Kanuka!
Congrats on your A! With a 56% class average, that is a tough-earned high mark
I was really surprised how confident I felt actually taking the test. It was so much memorization.
Congratulations!
Thanks!
An A!! Fantastic Coumarin.
Thank you Robin! This is such a supportive place. 💝
I didn’t think I had anything for this CP, but then I remembered to look in the ziplock labeled Miscellaneous Meh and found samples of Naomi Goodsir Cuir Velours and Bois d’Ascese (two of the latter, actually) that I’d tried a while back. I keep those samples around because tastes change and you never know when you might want to re-investigate something. Long story short(er), I’m in Bois d’Ascese, really enjoying it, and taking points because the perfumer was the very cute Julien Rasquinet.
Hurray for cute perfumers!
Exactly! I mean, who knows how old some of the head shots on fragrantica are, but I do appreciate the cute ones. 🙂
I love the idea of “Miscellaneous Meh”. 🙂
“Miscellaneous Meh” beats “Miscellaneous BLEH”!
SOTD is Shalimar Millesime Jasmine. Today I really like it. I still don’t think I need a back up bottle, but it is very nice.
Speaking of BUBs, I was rather surprised to see you putting up one of your Shalimar MI bottles in the Swap Meet.
I did that because I decided that I didn’t need two back up bottles. I love Shalimar MI, but there are so many other fragrances out there. Plus, if I wore it all the time, I am afraid I would get sick of it.
Gotcha. Makes sense.
I’m wearing Angel Muse today, and I am probably twins or triplets with some of you.
I was so sorry to read that Maggie Smith had died.
There are more of us in Muse today! I teared up a bit at the news about Maggie Smith, she was so talented.
Wearing Chloé for today’s CP. Checking in from middle-of-nowhere Michigan, where I am for a nephew’s wedding. Which I’m looking forward to very much, despite the location. Actually it’s a cute town. 😉
Have fun at the wedding.
Thank you, Aurora!
Enjoy the wedding!
Thanks, jalapeno!
Like many I’m in Angel Muse today from Quentin Bisch. I have worn this in a while and I’m really enjoying it.
If I had access to my collection I would be in AM too and you snell great.
Angel Muse had a bottle that matched the contents. Both were lovely.
This!
*smell
I’m in Angel Muse today for the cp. A shower gel in this would have been phenomenal.
I’m super tired and working the late shift. Happy to have the weekend off.
I posted some stuff over at the swapmeet.
Hope you get some rest, enjoy your weekend off!
I hope you have a restful weekend!
You smell wonderful – so grateful to my NST friends for talking up Angel Muse, since it caused me to get some before it disappeared over the horizon.
You smell wonderful. Have a good rest!
Yuck for working the late shift, but Yay for having the whole weekend off!
Enjoy your we off!
No young gun choice in my small array of perfumes here so my sotd is by veteran and all around master perfumer JC Ellena, Eau de Néroli Doré and it goes very well with the mellow and warm fall weather in Drôme Provençale. Just had delicious plums and lemon meringue ice-cream.
Plum and lemon meringue ice cream? Yes, please! And I love your SOTD.
Seriously! Plum and lemon meringue ice cream sounds delicious!
Wish I could share with you.
You smell great!
Thank you Nina, it’s a simple scent but so good.
Lemon meringue ice cream? Sounds totally delicious!
It’s really good, halfway between a pie and ice cream, wish I could share.
In PN Pudre de Musc for a sunny autumn day.
I had a couple of choices: Lush perfumer Alina Gilwinska ( Barbie, Alina), Pissara Umavijani ( Pavillion D’Or) but settled on Isaac Sinclair, the nose behind most Abel perfumes ( who is 44). Wearing Pause. I’m off to join a large protest march. During the last govt. election the region was promised the completion of a new base hospital to service residents in the lower South Island. They continued to say the build would go ahead after being elected into govt. but two days ago went back on their word. Not only will this have a huge effect on the residents of this area ( a lot are rural and get transported in) but also the university medical school who rely on the hospital. Also, it will be extremely hard to recruit doctors to work in the really run down building we have. Anyway, there will be a massive turn out as everyone is absolutely disgusted and so angry.
A worthy cause for a march, I think. A shame it’s necessary though.
I’m not surprised at the level of anger about the hospital, I think you’ll have a lot of company on the march.
March! Definitely worth a protest. We have so many issues here in my part of Canada, recently read a story reminding me of a mayor in a small town in a central (and isolated) part of the interior of my province sending a bill to the provincial government because they’re required to pay for their local medical centre, yet the province can’t staff it reliably and the emergency services have been closed down a lot. Absolutely ask for that money back, I say…
Defo a worthy cause!
You go! I’d be ticked off about something like that, too.
Good for you! I hope it is successful in producing changes. 👍🏻
SOTD is Color Feeling Yellow from Brocard; perfumer is Wei Ling Png at Symrise. I’m not sure how old she is, but judging from the little info and her photo on Fragrantica, she seems like she’s a Young Gun! It’s .a pleasant, inexpensive lemony white floral. Light, not heavy.
When I came up with this project I also didn’t think through how impossible it was to find anyone’s age!
It’s a sunny Saturday morning and I’m going to the regular fundraiser fabric sale shortly. There is a lot wrong with the world, but right now it’s good in my tiny corner of it.
Given that I’m always on the lookout for vintage fabrics, I’ll wear something classic, I think Mitsouko will encourage anything vintage to wave to me 🙂 .
Hope you find lovely things Gaynor! Good luck.
Hi all! I am in Bois Impérial by Quentin Bisch. The official website lists Nepalese Timut Pepper and Haitian Vetiver as main notes, but to me it smells like a lovely incense scent this evening… I am enjoying it, and from what I see there are a lot of Bisch’s perfumes that are appreciated around here 😊
Wishing everyone a lovely weekend!
Nice to see you here!
❤️
I’m in Angel Nova today. Not as nice as Angel Muse, but the miniature bottle I have is bright and cute.
Some of the older TM mini bottles are adorable.
Fangirling over Mathieu Nardin with his Scherzo for Harris Miller today. I had planned to wear his Falling Trees for Regime des Fleurs for the CP, but I woke up wanting rose. From what I can find online he is either 38 or 39. My company used to have our HQ in the office next to a Mane building and I always hoped I’d run into him there one day. But we moved last year, and even though my commute is much, much better now, I am sad my chances of meeting him went from like 5% to .005%.
Tea today is a lovely Kenya Purple Leaf from Clipper Ship Tea Co. It is technically a black tea, but it brews up a pretty mauve color, and tastes like a delicate white tea. And the leaves are a dark greenish-teal color after brewing.
Working in NYC, I always thought I would encounter Hollywood celebrities but I only saw Kim Bassinger 👍 and Alec Baldwin 👎.
😂 lol’d at your 👍 and 👎
While working in midtown I once walked past the Dalai Lama. He has a beautiful smile. 😌
Your Tea of the Day sounds really cool! I’ll keep it in mind next time I need to replenish my Tea Stash. Just got some goodies from The Republic of Tea earlier today.
I’ve got nothing CP wise so I’m wearing Angel’s Share from a travel spray. Delicious! Sad to hear about Dame Maggie. I didn’t realize she was 89. To me she seemed to be mod80’s since forever.
I’m out boon-docking at about 8500 ft and it’s still fairly warm out, although as soon as the sun goes down it’ll get quite chilly. I’m in a totally different landscape here and was surprised by the dramatic color changes. Looks like mostly Aspens but I’m surprised the colors are so far advanced because it’s still pretty warm up here. It’s a nice change from the high desert scrub I’ve been in. I’ll miss the pronghorn for sure. Fastest land animal after the cheetah. Unlike the cheetah, they can sustain high speeds for much longer.
Have a fabulous weekend!
*mid-70’s I meant. Fat Finger Syndrome…🙄
Can’t go wrong with Angel’s Share! And aspens turning are lovely. The only trees here turning right now are also turning yellow, though I haven’t identified what they are. Too many trees (like the chestnuts) just turned brown over the summer due to heat. Sigh.
Lots of the highest elevation Aspen trees are at peak color right now, so you picked an excellent time to head up!
For the CP win: Fanny Bal’s and Dominique Ropion’s Alien Fusion. I smell a warm musk with a little of the OG floral note. But otherwise, it’s spicy and sweet. Fragrantica does not show musk in the notes, so maybe the amber and spices seem that way to me. Alien Fusion is high on my “I should wear this more” shelf! The bottle is lovely, too.
Hiya scent twin!
👋. Do you get the soft musk?
For me, there is a brief flash of ginger, then the typical Alien accord of jasmine and amber, albeit a less intense version than the OG.
No musk that I can parse out.
I should have bought Fusion but couldn’t make up my mind.
It may still pop up somewhere on the Interwebs….
Triplets!
I wonder if what they call “white amber” is a little musky.
RIP Dame Maggie Smith. Shining star among stars in one of my favorite movies!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vI-48fjZD5Y
I didn’t know she was in THAT!
Oh, I loved that movie! I saw it in the theater when I was 13.
I’m sure Hiram Green was under 45 at some point in his life, like the first 44 years of it! (Or maybe he’s a young gun and I’m not finding it out online.)
So, continuing my week of sampling through all the wonderful samples Austenfan sent. I started with Voyage 2019, which was understated nag champa on me (bravo on the understated part, which I appreciated). I moved on to Moon Bloom as my SOTE since the sample card said “mistress of the night”. I like it, but I don’t think of tuberose as an evening scent, I guess, probably because I’ve never lived anywhere tropical? It is a very solid natural tuberose, but I think my Tauer will get me through as a FB on the tuberose front. (I’m not that much a BWF person.)
I do have to say I’m consistently surprised at how long these scents last, given they’re natural. He does a lovely job with that. And the perfumes are beautifully constructed, though probably only one or two are calling FB.
Crazy week at work, and I’m looking forward to taking off to the Mosel valley for some wine tasting this weekend. Ockeghem Teen thinks it’s “boring”, though. 🙂
Have a great time in the Mosel Valley. And I’d be happy to take Ockeghem Teen’s place at the wine tasting😋
Thameen Centre Stage!
Gorgeous orange blossom, perfect for the warm-ish weather we had today!
Happy weekend!
✌🏻🌹
Glad that you were enjoying warm-ish weather! I know you are NOT a fan of Winter.
Defo not a fan,and there’s a last-last cold front on its way next week which will have temps drop for a day or two by about 10-15 digits!😱😱
What’s warmish there? 80 degrees? Lol. Jk🌞
31 C!🙈🙈🤣✌🏻
Lol! 🤣
SOTD = MFK Grand Soir
… from my beautiful red travel spray holder. Alas, no IG post on this today.
SOTD yesterday = Love, by Kilian, don’t be shy Special Blend 2023! I’m assuming this was posted in this here parts but I simply don’t remember. Anyway, I added this large sample to my Bergdorfs order and wowoweee do I love it! It’s a similar, yet different take on the Love series but I say it’s a successful buy.

In other news, Day 2 of the civil mediation training was done and dusted this past Wednesday; 3 more days to go! Tomorrow’s session will be via Zoom so let’s see how that goes. Apparently, most of the actual mediation sessions have been via Zoom so we’ll see how things go; this also means I don’t have to worry about finding office space somewhere. Most of the trainees are lawyers or affiliated with a law or tax firm and some are on their own. I have a lot more to learn and will provide more information once I am all done next week!
You smell great!
I commend you for doing these sessions and branching out. That is something I find very difficult.
I am glad your fur baby is on the mend
OOPS! Why did it show up here? That was for Jalapeno! But you do smell good
😁🌈
Bummed to hear about Dame Maggie Smith’s passing. At least one of my friends is watching a “Harry Potter” marathon either today, or sometime this weekend.
Good news about Teflon kitty! She no longer needs the dreaded ear drops! The vet said to keep an eye on her for a week or so to see if the she truly over the ear infection, and to let her ears dry out.
SOTD = twins with MossyBerry in Alien Fusion. So I am CP compliant. Never thought I’d wear any version of Alien in summer temps, but this one doesn’t quite have the Tactical Nuclear Jasmine hit of its parent.
Good news about Teflon Kitty! 🤞Hoping she is truly over the ear infection. Sending good vibes from 😻😻and😻.
Thanks!
😹”Tactical Nuclear Jasmin”. Glad sweet Teflon is better.
Thank you! Tef is still shaking her head a bit. Hopefully that goes away soon.
I’ve been calling Alien “Tactical Nuclear Jasmine” for a while now. Seems to fit. 🤣 It’s an affectionate nickname.
Good news about TK!
Yep! Thanks lillyjo.
“If she the truly”? Tsk! Missed that grammar fail.
Should be “if she is truly”.
Great news on Teflon kitty!
Thank you AnnE!
Twins! Or I guess triplets, I am working my way up from the bottom. I’m glad your kitty is better.
Thanks Laurels!
Very happy for Teflon, her ordeal is over.
Thank you Aurora.
I am glad your fur baby is on the mend
Thanks CM8! You probably have your hands full with your 3 grandkitties…
Glad Teflon kitty is feeling better.
Thank you Glannys.
Glad about Teflon kitty!
Thanks! I’m sure that she is much happier that I am not trying to put goop in her ears twice a day. 😮💨
My ❤️ goes out to all those affected by Helene and I 🙏 for your safety. Here in Chicagoland we’re starting to get some strong winds and are expecting showers tomorrow as relics of the storm reach us, and I’m grateful that’s all we’re getting.
Searching through fragrantica to find which fragrances were created by the perfumers in today’s cp, I was astounded at the number of perfumes I had never even heard of! But, luckily, I have two, and the one I chose today is VS Victoria. Quentin Busch is listed as one of its perfumers. Victoria blends red berries and rose with a sweet base of caramel and creme brûlée and, as a lover of gourmand fragrances, especially now that the weather has cooled off, I enjoy it layered over LM Creme Brûlée body cream to enhance that note. Mmmm, good!
Yesterday we spent a glorious day at the last White Sox home game ending with a win and a 3-game sweep in seats right behind home plate our ticket agent gifted us with.👍 A marathon shopping trip for us today – PetSmart, BBW, Costco, Aldi – ending in a carwash. Spent a whole bunch of money but we’re all stocked up with food not just for us but for 😻😻 and😻 as well as all the birds 🦅🐦⬛and 🐿️🐿️ that visit our garden. Tomorrow we have a local solar tour in the morning, a historical society program in the afternoon, and weather-permitting, we’re hoping to go to our Farmer’s Market After Dark event held once a month with 🍺 and 🍷 tasting, food trucks and live 🎶. Sunday I hope to just relax!
Wishing everyone a lovely weekend ahead!🍁🍂
Wow, I didn’t realize that Chicago was in line for hurricane leftovers.
Yeah, we’re not in any danger by any means but the strong circular winds are now traveling thru much of Indiana and entering central Illinois, expecting to just barely reach up to our area tomorrow with wind gusts of 40+ mph and just a few showers but no heavy rain
That sounds like a fantastic weekend, Laila. I need to make plans to visit your city again, it’s so much fun!
You’re welcome anytime! I live in a nearby suburb of Chicago, and there are many things – many low budget or free – in my community and in other suburbs in addition to all the wonderful sites and sounds and activities Chicago offers. I indulge in both!
You’re so sweet, Laila, thank you! 😊 I have a niece who lives there, so perhaps we can meet at some point. What fun!
sotd = Prada Amber EdP
I sniff this one in the bottle and think it’s alright. When I wear it there is an unctuous oily that I can’t quite enjoy.
But I keep wearing it, so it must be appealing to me on some deep level. Noses are strange. 😄
I remember testing your SOTD when I first got seriously into perfume and didn’t care for it. Prada was definitely a challenging house for me then.
It’s amazing how prolific these young perfumers have been, and how few of their perfumes I have actually smelled.
I’m wearing Mugler Alien Fusion, which answers the question, what if Alien, but with sweet orange blossom instead of nuclear jasmine? I don’t love it as much as I thought I was going to, but I like it a lot and the bottle is spectacular.
