Wednesday scent of the day 8/21

Posted by Robin on 21 August 2024 115 Comments

It's Hump Day, plus National Spumoni Day and Count Basie’s birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?

Me: day 2 of vetiver, plus I'm taking community project points, in Lalique Encre Noire.

Reminder: 8/23 will be Cypress Friday...wear a fragrance with a cypress note.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

    Hello.
Sotd is Bobbi Brown Beach. It might be raining out but in my mind I am at the beach living the summer high life.
I also have a batch of fudgy coconut brownies waiting for me. Heck, I’ll even have some ice cream with the brownies. Definitely turning out to be a treat-myself-day!

It’s unusually cold all of a sudden and it’s raining.
I was craving clean musc scents today, I am wearing il Profvmo musc bleu layered with No.5 body lotion.
I will be traveling this Sunday, getting ready for that.

I’m wearing CdG Black edt, from a decant. First time to try it, and I like it so far. Might be more of a cool weather scent, but I like the spicy black pepper.

Went with a proven Hot Weather Friendly Scent- Ninfeo Mio. Did a little bit of doodling around the outside of the camper this morning and now back inside with A/C blasting! It’s only 930 am and that sun will scorch you to a crisp. I think it’ll top 90F again today…😓

Apropos of nothing, I was doing city searches via Google Earth in France in the towns of Bordeaux, Toulouse, Cahors, and La Roque Gageac looking for perfume shops to haunt on my down time. Quite a few within walking distance of my hotel in Bordeaux so very much looking forward to perusing their offerings. I’m sure I’ll come back with something or other. I’m expecting big things from these stores because after all, it IS France. 🇫🇷 I’m hoping I have the Luck of Daniel on my flights but I’m (kind of) prepared for anything…

It’s slowed down here at the campground considerably since the kids went back to school. I’m sure Labor Day Weekend will be our last hurrah and the final opportunity to watch “Campers Behaving Badly!” Thankfully, I had some very nice folks yesterday so hoping the rest of the season is just like that.

      Be well, y’all!

Wearing Juliette Has A Gun’s Ode to Dullness, a fluffy modern sandalwood rubbed with anise. It’s as simple as the name suggests but it’s also very pleasant and good to wear in the ongoing heat as it isn’t heavy or sweet.

Lush Jungle body spray for the CP points.
We are completely fridgeless for the time being. Our old fridge was taken for disposal today, and the new one will arrive tomorrow. I admit I am nervous – the new fridge is a modern one with electronic systems etc. This is cool, but makes me more worried about power outages. Although it does have built-in surge protection, I will need to look into this too.

Well, we used ice-packs while they lasted. And the fridge still provided some cold in the freezer until this afternoon. We don’t have a cooler, so we essentially switched to the foods that do not need refrigeration.

Did you get the type where you can enter ingredients and the fridge will recommend a recipe? I think that is fabulously cool!

      • Glannys says:
        21 August 2024 at 4:17 pm

No, nothing that complex. The old one has this condensation-based static cooling system and mechanical controls (a knob). And you had to defrost it manually 1-2 times a year. This one has a No Frost technology (cooling is done by fans, no defrosting needed) and a small display to enter the temperature for the fridge and freezer. You all probably have something like that.

It has Smart Diagnostics – troubleshooting using a phone app. Nothing else smart, I think.

FWIW, I have never needed any kind of surge protection on kitchen appliances. They seem to be more robust than stereos, TVs, and computers.

Your new refrigerator sounds a lot more sophisticated than any I have ever had!

        22 August 2024 at 6:09 am

Well, the technician said that we can either get the same type that we had (static cooling) or a fridge with “No Frost”.

For the first type, I needed to examine the fridge – he explained what to look for to avoid getting a fridge that would have to be replaced in 4-5 years. According to the technician, nowadays a good static cooling fridge is hard to find. There is only one shop with fridges near me, the assortment is limited, I went there but did not find a fridge matching the criteria.

The second option (“No Frost”) is much easier to find. I ordered one online.

Unfortunately, all of this happened in the middle of a heatwave, so I had to choose quickly.

    SOTD = Commodity Book

I had to double-check that we are doing cypress. When I checked Fragrantica (I know I know), I have 2 weeks’ worth of perfumes I could wear, but won’t because I can only take so much cypress!

Commodity Book, of which I have a travel spray, has cypress! I should wear this more often.

In other news, here’s an article on Costco. I go perhaps 8x per year (ok, could be more) and each time I do spend over $100 and it is to buy staples. It’s a good write-up on its philosophy.

I am in Tam Dao today, my current getting things done favorite. I trimmed up adorable hobbies hair, and we trotted off to the little rural post office to get passport photos and send off a lot of money and forms. The passport photos are atrocious, we both look like we have gotten off long distance red-eye flights that encountered bad weather, so I suppose no one will have any trouble believing we are we while traveling. Now we wait til they come. Such fun!

I’m in Un Jardin en Mediterranee for the cypress note. Well, and because I love it. With a high of 73, this will be the warmest day of the week in the PNW. It looks like we will get some more summery temps again next week. I’m not really ready to say goodbye to summer yet so I’m looking forward to a week of warmth again. Yesterday I wore Chanel Paris-Edimbourg, also for the cp. I took this Friday off since work has been stressful lately, and I need a break. It can’t come soon enough!

It’s sunny and cold and the silver eyes are crowding around the sugar feeder, about thirty of them. I’m wearing A Chaque Instant ( Pont des Arts) which is a fresh floral-woody scent. It has a walk in the forest vibe, though no cedar. In fact, more like an European forest with anemones and bluebells than a NZ mulchy, mossy one. I really like it. Thanks Gaynor for the sample! Hope your tests went well.

Thank you lillyjo. Still off my feed, and thinking it might be an early night tonight.

Thanks springpansy. Looks like a night’s rest was the Special Sauce that I needed.

That totally sucks! May the calm around you bring calm to your head and help to release the ache.

Smelling great, lillyjo (I almost wore that too). Enjoy your day off tomorrow! Hopefully there’s nothing on the agenda.

Just a few errands and laundry, but it’s better than being here.

You smell wonderful. Do all or nothing tomorrow! BTW, I tried the new LVEB flanker and you are absolutely right about the raspberry overdose. I got a manufacturer’s sample and will try again.

Oh I’m glad you agree. I will try it again too, maybe in cooler weather.

I was in Heure Exquise again today because smelled so good yesterday. It’s so much cooler out; I’m enjoying it immensely!

Heure Exquise smells great in a lot of different weather conditions, IIRC.

    sotd = Mon Precieux Nectar

From a decant I’ve been hoarding for years. So lovely I wore it yesterday too. Wear it or lose it. 😊 Thank you for your perfumed inspiration, NST!
