It’s Almost-Friday and the 80th anniversary of D-Day. Birthdays: Diego Velázquez, Alexander Pushkin, Thomas Mann, Marian Wright Edelman. What fragrance are you wearing?
For dancing to Little Red Corvette back in the 80s, I'm in Yves Saint Laurent Paris.
Reminder: 6/7 is Prince Rogers Nelson aka Prince aka The Artist's birthday. Scent a Prince song, or do whatever else you like with the theme.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I’m in Assam of India this morning. Not my reason for wearing it, but I think Prince would have loved the little elephants on the bottle.
Of course he would!
Continuing my sampling of Roja Dove:
Mischief is my SOTD
The inspiration from the perfumer: “I wanted to create a scent that reminded me of the flowers of spring: the flowers of my childhood, when nothing was too serious and everything was like a game that had no end.”
Smelling like an expensive spring flower
Mischief managed!
Love the name of your SOTD.
It’s a BWF
I will stay out of mischief today 😇😇😇😉
I’m wearing Chanel Egoiste today, it’s actually cooler and sunny and Egoiste smells just perfect. I’m claiming partial CP points because no one can get to be so famous and influential as Prince and not have a pretty strong ego.
Ha, that works!
Cooling myself with Guerlain AA Herba Fresca,
Yesterday blackout lasted 26 hours for most people in my town. Then power went back on at midnight and was off again at 2 a. m., this time till morning. Today the power was on for half of the building (I was among the lucky ones) and off for the other half. They finally turned it on for everyone about and hour ago, although the voltage in the building is still low.
I started a new game localization testing project today but ran into some technical difficulties. Finally, with the client’s help, the issue was solved. But my laptop barely handles these gaming tasks, and I have another testing assignment next week, and that game’s requirements are a bit higher than the current one’s. So now I need to quickly choose and buy a new laptop and then get some kind of charging/backup power solution for both the laptop and the external monitor. Oof.
I hope everyone’s week is less stressful than mine so far.
I’m so sorry that you’re having to go through this. I hope you’re able to get it figured out quickly.
Oh that’s awful. I’m very sorry it’s interfering with both home life and your work. How is your mom holding up?
Thank you. She is more or less ok. Better than in April, the treatment helps.
Oy! Are you able to deduct the cost as business expense?
My tax model is different. I pay a low percentage of my income, but I cannot deduct any expenses.
Best wishes for the choices you have to make, Glannys.
Best of luck getting a new computer and all the other bits and bobs!
Good luck Glannys! Hope you are finding ways to keep your stress under control.
SOTD will be Poison, for the ’80s, and Prince, and that purple bottle (although mine is a vintage sample). Ah, memories.
Great choice! That was my college bestie’s signature scent. Good scent memories associated with it.
I had my daughter sniff it once in Macys and she actually recoiled lol, she has no idea what she’s missing!😂
Good one for the purple color!
Oh! I also knew someone who always wore that! Good choice.
That’s a brilliant choice! I may steal your idea for Friday.
Great choice! You smell amazing! Poison was one of my favorites back in the day.
Perfect!
Going for a another 1999 release in Guerlain Guet-Apens. I am glad I was sparing in my application–this one is big.
It is too humid here for anything big, but I do like the theme.
Hello.
Sotd is EL Beautiful Magnolia L’eau from another sample. I am sorry but got nothing nice to say about it. Very generic watery floral mall scent with barely any personality. I am glad the staying power is also l’eau (low).
lol, I like your play on words there.
Generic watery floral mall scent? NOPE!
SOTD is No 5 L’Eau. I have to do a presentation today for the Alzheimer’s Association so wanted something kind of light.
Twins!🙌 Always a good choice! Good luck with the presentation.
Hi twin!
You smell fabulous for your presentation!
😊
Smelling great, Kris!
Thank you!
I’m curious: what will you speak about?
Today I am speaking on “Understanding Alzheimer’s and Dementia”. Some days I speak on 10 warning signs of dementia and also healthy habits. There are several different presentations that the audience can choose from. Different groups want different things.
Great! I have taken some special workshops for caregivers of people with dementia. It is as so helpful. I’m sure your talks are much appreciated. I am finding that done of the younger nurses here where she’s in the hospital could use more training about how to deal with dementia patients. When it comes time to write a review I will suggest that.
Definitely tell them. I am a former gerontological nurse consultant so worked with this a lot in my 40 years of nursing. It is a very difficult disease to watch, and I have had to see my grandmother and mother suffer with the disease. This is one of the reasons I like to educate people as families have no idea what to expect.
Perfect, I keep forgetting to wear it.
Good luck.
Tough topic.
It went well, but it can be a difficult topic.
Glad to hear that your presentation went well today. Smelling so good!
My sis and I are in a blind study for Alz. Association.
Dad had Lewy Body.
Thanks for continuing to educate people.
Good for you and your sister. I am happy to hear of someone being part of the studies out there.
All I can smell right now is the gobs of sunscreen on my face and neck, but earlier I was gently wafting Shalimar body crème from last night. Will probably go with Ninfeo Mio in a bit. Currently enjoying rocking in the shade and watching T-Rex try to levitate the prairie dogs out of their holes with her intense focus and concentration…I’m wishing I had half her energy. Also watching the HUGE boats go by and OMG! I can’t imagine the purchase and operational costs of these beasts! 💸💸💸
Boats? Not really right?
Yes, Really. Big. Boats. 🚤
I somehow thought you were in the middle of a desert.
Yes, high desert but there is a river and a HUGE lake/reservoir. The big draw for most campers is the world class fishing here. So, many come with RV’s towing boats trailers. Also, a lot of local folks are getting their boats out of storage and into the water for the season. I’m right around the Flaming Gorge area.
https://youtu.be/wB3g967rFLs?feature=shared
Seeing a LOT of boats and campers on the roads here. Maybe some of them are headed your way?
I’m in no 5 L’eau. The humidity lifted over night and this morning there was not a cloud in the sky. Absolutely beautiful.🌞 I’m a little annoyed with Chanel that the LE is simply a different bottle. To me a “reinvention” or new “creation” as was their wording, means new juice not just a new bottle. Hmpf.
Oh well, I guess that’s marketing.
Terrible insomnia last night. My brain could not stop thinking about all that I have to get done in the next 48 hours. Have you ever seen one of those plate spinners? Well that’s me right about now.🤪
Hi twin! Smelling good.
Hugs- I had those spinning head stress moments
I’m also annoyed with Chanel. I don’t even like the bottle.
I don’t either.
Me neither.
They annoy me but I did purchase the palette with blush, bronzer and highlighter in it. It’s oversized and I guess overpriced, but I like the ease of swirling them all together.
Today I’m in “Targhee Forest” from Rogue. Wonderful, elegant hybrid of an old-school chypre and fougere. Fir, oakmoss, sage, amber… very “outdoorsy.” Reminds me of Devin or Polo Green, but a little gentler.
That sounds so good.
“Targhee Forest”?!?
I lived near the actual Targhee National Forest ages ago! Blast from the past.
I’m back at the hospital. Thank you so much everyone for your concern about my mom. It’s very comforting and kind. She’s very sleepy today, probably due to all the stress yesterday. No more seizures and so far no terrible test results, but they’re planning an EEG for later today. I’m wearing one of my new Arquiste samples that I like a lot, with a good orange blossom. I can’t remember the name!
I have only now read about your mom. Glad she has no more seizures and I hope she continues to improve. Orange blossom always cheers me up, and I hope it has the same effect on you.
Thank you. I looked it up and it’s L’or de Louis. A lot of orange blossoms seem too heavy to me, but this one is more gentle and beautiful. Yes, it’s cheering me up, but it’s way too expensive to buy!
Hope you can both rest a little and find some quiet from hospital noise and neon lights. I hope today’s tests go well.
Thank you. I did go home last night to my cats and wine. Luckily I don’t live too far away. They think they’ll let Mom go home tomorrow as she seems stabilized now.
Oh that’s good news.
Remember to take care of you too!
Yes, cats and wine! 😉
It sounds encouraging, at least she’s comfortable.
Both l’Or(Fleur) de Louis and Infanta en flor have beautiful orange blossom notes. Arquiste is such a good house.
Oh no! I have to catch up on my reading! I hope she turns out to be ok.
No more seizures is great news! I hope you are taking good care of yourself.
Was someone with your mother when she had the seizure?
Yes, a caregiver at her facility.
Thank goodness.
Thanks for the update. Fingers crossed your Mom can get out of hospital soon.
I sampled the new Abel Laundry Day yesterday and liked it. It is a washing hanging on the line scent (and so there is no white musk element, not a clothes dryer in sight). It has quite a noticeable fresh lime opening and then gets grassier and spicier ( closer to Pause, if you know that one). Stayed on my skin for a couple of hours as a pleasant grassy spice skin scent. I think the notes also have passion fruit and vetiver. I would put it in a pleasant/ safe/ wearable load, eco-cycle .
That sounds very nice.
That sounds interesting! I’ve seen ads for a new scent from Mrs Meyer’s soap products called something like “Fresh Cut Grass,” but I haven’t seen it in stores yet.
It’s expensive for what it is (NZ$270 for 50ml). It’s not a complex perfume but it is nice. It is also safe in a mindful/wellness way, like, good for a weekend retreat. Lacks a bit of personality. If it was cheaper it would make a good ‘ filler’ for in-between days, when you just reach for something.
I like the geranium
Could have worn CK Obsession from 1997 but wasn’t feeling it. I remember buying the bottle. Currently in Shalimar Ode a la Vanille. Waiting for my Luckyscent package to arrive and I can’t wait.
Can I ask what you are getting from there? It is always so fun to get perfume packages.
I am getting Pichola from Neela Vermeire. It’s the travel spray.
Nice.
For handwashing dishes, have used regular Dawn for years. Now it’s marked “new clean scent,” and I hate it–smells like a powerful Axe spray. Just purchased Dawn Platinum in wild jasmine, which I hope will be an improvement…we shall see.
In Porter Sa Peau today.
I have the same problem–I do not care for the new smell of Dawn at all. I will be interested to hear how wild jasmine turns out.
They changed their scent ?
I didn’t know they changed the scent. I have used it for years too.
Ugh, “a powerful Axe spray” scent?
Glad I use Palmolive.
How annoying!
In Mantes-La-Jolie today for the heat and humidity…
I’m wearing a sample of Goldfield &Banks Sunset Hour and it is supposed to be inspired by a sunset over the Indian Ocean, but all I can think of is the smell reminds me of the Nestea my grandmother would make me when I would come over to visit. I am probably not going to be buying any more samples this year after this. There is so much hype around certain perfumes (not on on this website to be clear, but other places) and when I try them I’m surprised I’m smelling they are same perfumes that others gush about. It’s all subjective, I know.
Interestingly, every time I go to Scent Bar in Los Angeles, the sales assistants always push the Goldfield & Banks line, telling me how much the staff (and others) adore them. To my nose, they’re just okay. Pleasant, but forgettable.
You’re right – it’s all subjective. But it’s fair to say there’s a lot of (unwarranted) hype out there!
I see fragrance youtube gets free bottles of G&B. Often from Twisted Lily , they hype the brand quite a bit.
A lot of people like Sunset Hour, but it turned on me. I have not tried anything since then from that perfume house.
I’ve tried a couple of things from Goldfield and Banks, and they are pleasant. But not $$$$$$$$$$$ pleasant!
Same. I like Sunset Hour and got the free spray. But, I don’t feel that way about the bottle of Pacific Moss I wasted money on.
Not hyping trendy brands is one of the reasons I trust NST.
Sunset Hour was nada, zip, zero.
I do love Ingenious Ginger for summer, it was a top fragrance for me last year. Even bought a BUB.
And of course the beautiful Silky Woods.
Todays’ SOTD was Cardinal by Heely and all of you who told me to try were enablers of the worst…oops I meant best sort. 🙂
What a gorgeous incense.
Smoothie was a fresh mango instead.
I went to see the hygienist in the West End but ended up not doing any shopping because it was coldish for this time of year and rather grey. Glad to have clean teeth at least. Typical British weather these last few weeks, very uncertain. I was in a few discreet sprays of Hiris for my appointment but tonight I sprayed Prada l’Eau Ambrée with abandon because I haven’t worn it in a while and it’s so good, lovely, juicy citrus, very natural and the drydown is just as good with its opoponax and patchouli.
Thinking of those young men who lost their lives on this day.
It really is amazing how brave they were. I hope we never forget.
Yes, the ultimate sacrifice.
I think about all of them and their families. Of course, my own dad would be in the Pacific shortly after that.
When we were young, D Day was only a few years behind us in the rear view mirror.
The war to end all wars.
We will never forget their sacrifice.
Every so often I see Prada l’Eau Ambree pop up on the discounters’ websites. Don’t really see it in brick & mortar stores anymore.
Also thinking of the young men who made it back from D-Day, and built much of the world we now live in. Greatest Generation, indeed.
Indeed.
Is L’eau Ambree different than Prada Amber? I couldn’t wear that one.
Yes.
It really is so good! I will try to remember to wear it this weekend.
It really smells wonderful.
SOTD = Chanel No.19 EDP
On our way to Isafjordur, Iceland!
Today, we were in Akureyri, Iceland. We took an excursion to the Botanic Garden, Nonni Museum and Santa’s House. It was quite cool and damp but thankfully no snow, sleet or rain. I don’t think we’ll be so lucky tomorrow! I will have more photos to share at some point in the future.
With this said, here are two pictures. One is of a clearer picture of snow-capped mountains and the second one is of … an OWL!

Been loving your IG posts! It looks so wonderfully cool…🚢
Lovely photo and adorable owl. So glad you’re having a great time.
Iceland is on my bucket list. You smell good!
Very cute owl 🦉🦉
Gorgeous landscape!
Great posts!
Santa’s House? Thanks for these posts, I can’t believe the owl!
I’m wearing Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse today. I’ve almost thunked the bottle and will pick up another one when this is finished.
You smell great, Gail. I got my sister a small bottle of this and she loves it. She swims a lot in a chlorinated pool so puts it on her hair as well as on skin. I remember when this was all the rage on MUA some years back. But it’s a keeper.
Trying out Zara Moonlight Whisper today and me likey!!! 🥰 Notes are below.
Notes: pistachio, cardamom and pink sugar
We’ve got She-ra riding with us on the Zara train. There are some good scents at Zara and reasonably priced. That one sounds too sweet for me, but glad you like it. I have another one that Jalapeno told me about coming on Saturday. That brings my total to three. I better stop🤣
I have two Zara scents, and would get a third, but the Vetiver Pamplemousse one seems to be out of stock.
I think you got Leather Jardin though and that has the grapefruit in it as well. I don’t know if it would be close to Vetiver Pamplemousse, but I thought it might be.
Didn’t really get any grapefruit with Leather Jardin. Sometimes I amp perfume notes and other times I zap them.
But I am hoping the Vetiver Pamplemousse would be similar to the Jo Loves Pink Vetiver. That was a very nice citrus with woody notes on me.
That sounds perfect. Those notes!
Finally clapped my nose on Calvin Klein Reveal, a 2014 release that I’d not even heard of until Robin mentioned it during the CP where we did salt and pepper notes. It fits for Prince week as well, since the band Salt & Peppa were huge fans of Prince and even name-checked him in songs and he did covers of their songs in concert. So that’s my tortured logic.
Many 21st century designer perfumes have musk and woods aromachemicals that grate horribly on my sinuses, but Reveal is light, intriguing, and lovely. I can also understand why it was d/c, as it isn’t a fruity or overly sweet or aquatic or musky or powerhouse scent. It’s subtle. I don’t think I need a bottle, (just as well cuz it’s d/c) but I’m really glad to have discovered it, so thanks, Robin.
Makes sense to me.
I love your writing. Reveal left and came back to me. It is and underrated beauty.
Really liked the bottle for CK Reveal, but the juice did not play nicely with me. Bit of a bummer.
That was with me too.
So glad! I think it was a bad fit with CK in general, too. But thank Jessica, she’s the one who told me it was worth trying.
I am wearing 4711 Jasmine today.
A friend of mine, who works behind the scenes for concert venues, told me a story a few years ago. He said that when Prince came to our town to perform in concert he needed some items for his dressing room. My friend had to walk across the street to Saks to get one of the fragrance items Prince requested to get ready for his performance. I, of course was very curious what product he needed. So I asked him. It was Jo Malone Red Roses body and hand wash. I always thought that was so cool to know what scent was going on while Prince was performing that night !
Would never have guessed that Prince was a Jo Malone afficionado.
That is pretty cool!
I am growing out my hair and it has become a big frizzy mess! It’s not long enough to put up or in a ponytail, so I am resigned to looking like a dandelion gone to seed for a little bit. Plus I will wear lots of hats.
SOTD is Rhubarbe Ecarlate after I went out for a takoyaki lunch.
I sometimes use a fabric headband to control frizziness.
My hairdresser introduced me to a frizz reducing cream that really helps. I am not home but will try to remember to look at it to give you the name when I go home. You only use a small amount.
Gosh, been there!! So many times.
Song of the day: https://youtu.be/uZD8HKVKneI
Potentially record breaking temps in the forecast for tomorrow. And my car doesn’t have A/C. Time to get creative… 🤔
SOTD = back in Smell Bent Pepper & Ylang EdT.
I usually get that song in my head in the Fall, when I turn the furnace on. Lol
I’m sorry you are getting a heatwave, it’s so soon!
But it’s a dry heat! 🤣😉 And it could be MUCH worse.
I’ve started taking a cooler to the grocery store for perishable items like meat & dairy. My brother does that, and he suggested I do the same.
Awesome idea about the cooler! We have the same weather on the way.
89F where I’m at today. Ridiculous. I think the heat wave is supposed to break here sometime tomorrow, but it’s still going to be too hot for me. The only redeeming thing is that is cools off considerably at night. 🥵
I think it got up to 91 here? Not sure.
Got another day of 90+ degree temps, then the heat wave breaks. Unfortunately, the cooler temps come with a big serving of unsettled weather for several days. I haven’t missed the hail storms one bit.
I appreciate the same cooldown at night!
I went with Raspberry Beret for the song today paired with Guerlain My Insolence for the raspberry note. I haven’t worn this in forever, and it smells great and very much like the year it was released, 2007. Fruity floral notes over almond, musky, powdery base. I still have a few ml left in my decant so I’ll continue to pull it out from time to time to enjoy it.
That’s a great match!
2007 doesn’t seem that long ago, but I guess it is.
I know, it feels impossible that it’s been 17 years since then!
I’ve had a busy day off. I wore TF Metalique.
What is that like? The day off and Metallica, as I call it.
It’s aldehyde and vanilla. It definitely gives off a dryer sheet smell, but I love it. The vanilla is not sweet. It’s a go to when I don’t know what to wear.
I recently got a mini of TF Soleil Blanc from Sephora and thought of you.
Metallica and I thought of you.🤣
I thought of Jalapeno too! Lol.
🤘🤘🤘!
Oh I didn’t know there was a mini!
It was a option for Beauty Insiders recently, with a $50 minimum order online. It’s a cute 4mL dabber.
🤘🤘🤘!
Prince had seizures as a child.
The color purple is used to represent epilepsy and we, epileptics often use 💜 as our 💗.
Fitting that Prince is known for Purple Rain.
SOTD: Confetti, another very violet forward perfume by Lush.
💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
I can’t imagine Prince in any other color.
Me neither. It suited him so well.
I did not know that, thanks AnniePerfumes!
