Tuesday scent of the day 4/30

Posted by Robin on 30 April 2024 166 Comments

It's (teapot) Tuesday and the last day in April, plus International Jazz Day. Birthdays: Alice B. Toklas, Annie Dillard, Jane Campion. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in Berdoues Assam of India since people were talking about it in the comments yesterday. Tea at the moment is Yunnan Golden Buds Organic from Upton with a sprinkle of nutmeg.

Reminder: 5/3 will be Chypre Friday! Wear a chypre fragrance of any sort — classic or modern or post-modern. This is a repeat from 2016.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2024, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Note: from the Bridgerton Tea Time collection at Williams Sonoma (which does include a proper stoneware teapot), the Chocolate Breakable Tea Pot with Candy Jewels ($48.95) and the Bridgerton Teapot Cake Pops (6 for $39.95).

    Happy Teapot Tuesday everyone!

SOTD is Musc des Sables from the swapmeet, thank you writerrobyn 🙂 On me, it’s a more casual version of Coromandel, a lightly sweet iris-powdery cloud dancing above easygoing patchouli.

As for the CP, I don’t have many chypres, I suspect it’s not my genre after all. I do have a vintage Mitsouko extrait, that may make an appearance on Friday.

Instead of wearing Courtesan yesterday, I went with vintage Mitsouko extrait.

Mitsouko is about the only thing I have too. Oh, I guess 31 Rue Cambon is a woody chypre so that works. I may wear one of them toward the end of the week.

If anyone has Bottega Veneta, I’d say that’s a perfect fit for the CP.

    Hi, NST!
It’s an amazing spring day, all blue sky, sunshine and pleasant cool temperatures. I’m wearing Silences. Taking my mom on a drive this afternoon to look at the flowering trees and general gorgeousness of springtime. Enjoy your day, everyone 🌹

Chypre day two: Molyneux Fête, a very sixties chypre that I feel was underappreciated, but not by me. Floral but not prettily so, rather unisex, thanks to the oakmoss, leather, and sandalwood in the base. I have only a few drops left and I’ll miss it when it’s gone.

    Hello.
Chypre is one of my favourites and I easily have enough for a week. Yay!
Sotd is Zara Leather Jardin. I still can’t believe this is from Zara. It’s so so good.

    Perfume alert!
Leather Jardin has been re-released! Now in a new bottle. If you’ve missed out before and want to get your hands on one (or more – I strongly recommend bubs), now is your chance!

I have a question on this before I let you guys enable me. I see on Fragrantica that it is compared to Aramis. My father wore Aramis, and I loved it, but found it very masculine. Does this really smell like that?

Givenchy Very Irresistible L’Intense for partial credit. It is a blend of rose, plum, patchouli and musk, and Fragrantica calls it a floral chypre. I think this more of a fruitchouli with a strong rose note.

Thanks a lot for your sympathy yesterday. A bit of a light in the tunnel – when I placed a repair order with the ISP today, they told me that the technician’s visit will be free. I am still bummed about a less than one-year old UPS dying on me, but it is something at least.

Good morning all! I’m wearing cacharel loulou from a vintage bottle I just blind bought for $20. I smell amazing! I can’t imagine how the parfum smells, I sprayed two sprays on a sweater and the scent filled my entire 1000 square foot apartment haha.

Is it ok to ask interest about a potential split? I want to get the heeley 15 ml x 3 set (or the 5 piece if enough interest) but there’s only one scent I want. I just want the tiny bottle, haha. If this is not ok to talk about I will keep my lips buttoned til then

In good news, we finally bought a car. It wasn’t really what we wanted, but we’ll hand it off to Ockeghem Teen in a couple of years (aaack!) and let’s hope there will be more on the market by then.

2016 RAV4 Hybrid at a lower trim level than we’d wanted. We’d been hoping for something a bit bigger and a bit newer, with a better speaker / stereo system (important to Mr. Ockeghem, who does most of the driving) that had Car Play (important to all of us), but we basically had to jettison almost everything we wanted just to find a car. Hybrid was non-negotiable, tho.

Yeah, we had a Highlander that we loved, too. It probably had another 7-10 years in it…stupid accident. So we were pretty focused on getting another Toyota. Would have loved a Highlander, but there just aren’t any here right now, new or used.

Wearing something low key today since I’ll be jammed into a truck with other people for a bit, so decided on The Original Omnia by Bvlgari.

Finally got some very good deep sleep last night after T-Rex reacted to something Sunday night. She had an allergic reaction which thankfully didn’t involve her airway, just her muzzle area which became so edematous I was really worried, especially being so far from a vet. Luckily, the swelling was very transient and resolved within a couple of hours, but she was really restless all night. Anyway, that night and into yesterday she kept breaking out in hives so I’ve been loading her up with Benadryl. She’s doing all the normal things (eating, drinking, pooping) so hoping over the next 24 hours the hives will be gone. And for all the dog owners out there, if your dog has an allergic reaction, always look for blood in their 💩 because is a sign more serious systemic problems rather than localized, according to a vet. Don’t want to leave her today, but she had no hives at all this morning but I decided to give her a Benadryl anyway. Really, I worry more about my dog than many people worry about their kids…I’m kinda ridiculous, no need to say it, I already know…”Hello, my name is Deva and I’m a helicopter dog mom.” 🙃

    Happy Tuesday!

Yeah, that’s just the brand name which is what everyone here in the US calls diphenhydramine. Probably available there under some other brand name, as you’ve probably already discovered. Thanks for understanding my anxiety. I was just thinking the other day I probably will not get another dog, especially traveling like this. Veterinary care is very difficult and so expensive now because huge for profit corporations are buying vet clinics and really jacking up prices, benefiting no one except CEO’s and shareholders. Basically, the same as human medicine here, just on a smaller scale.

Not even available as a generic, as far as I could find, though a related antihistamine is (dimentidene).
I absolutely hate the commercialisation of medicine, be it veterinary or human. I won’t say any more about it, because that would quickly become a political discussion, but I hear you.

I’m not prone to panic, but the one time I did was when my darling Josephine was off leash and crossed a very busy road because she got scared by two large dogs. Fortunately only my vocal cords got damaged in the process (all dogs remained unharmed).

I would love to have another dog, but the apartment I’m currently renting has a very strict no pet policy plus I make long hours, and how fair is that. Still, I still dream of another wirehaired dachshund. I saw one from the bus today. Just the way, they walk like they own the world is priceless.

Josephine! Omg, that’s my worst nightmare come to life. I’m glad everything turned well, except for the vocal cord! Of the three varieties, the wires are the best, imo. They are much more animated and outgoing with personalities much bigger than their short hotdog body would suggest. I hate the process of stripping wires though. Don’t know if you do that there, but here for conformation shows they do it and I don’t like it one single bit.

          • austenfan says:
            30 April 2024 at 7:03 pm

Wirehaired dogs are stripped here as well. It really depends on how harsh the coat is though, and the skill of the groomer. (we call it “plucking”)

          • austenfan says:
            30 April 2024 at 7:06 pm

I realise there is a difference. In Dutch the word “plukken” is used when you trim a wirehaired dog appr. once every nine months. It’s called stripping when you groom them every 3 to 4 months.

I have no idea. I don’t think it was something super serious like a scorpion or snake because I think I would have heard a yelp of pain or at least surprise at the strike. Probably some kind of insect but it was around midnight so I didn’t actually see anything.

I got my box from Luckyscent yesterday with my impulse purchase of Hilde Soliani Orgasmo, plus a nice array of samples. This morning I’m trying two others from her that were among the samples: Bell’Antonio (coffee and tobacco), and Fraagola Saalaata (might have left out some of the “a’s” in those words!)–strawberry and salt. I’m not particularly taken with either one.

Lately I’ve felt very unmotivated to do anything, and I’m having horrible dreams. I had one about a car going off a cliff last night with me holding it up from falling down by hanging on tight to some rocks along the cliff. It woke me up because it was so scary. Mom was a passenger in the same car. I don’t think I want to go near any dream interpretations in this case!

Well, the 80s were not that for me! And when I think of 80s fragrances now, I think of things like CK One and Eau de Givenchy and Calyx. I did wear YSL Paris too and that was big, but I never wore any of the “power suit” fragrances, and neither did any of my friends…

I know how you feel. I’m 60, so the 80s for me were about university and starting work, and it doesn’t seem that long ago. But, I didn’t wear much perfume, so I’m still discovering things from the 80s.

I’m also 58. Whenever I think of the 80’s and perfume, Obsession and Poison immediately come to mind. I knew people who wore both back in the day, and wore them well.

I never encountered Ysatis, though. Sounds like I missed out.

EDT or EDP? They’re different, I prefer the jasmine gardenia of the EDT versus the tuberose gardenia of the EDP.

Fragrantica lists the following as a note from the brand on this one which expands on my lovely comment above. ehaeheeh 😉

Anchored in preciously rich orris pallida butter, warmth radiates from golden-hued tonka, touches of fruity-fresh vanilla are deepened with lush, dark cocao bean extract, accented with ginger and cardamom. Angelic musks impart an ethereal lift, signaling the dawn of better days ahead.

I’m wearing Hiris today, I hadn’t worn it in a while. It’s pouring rain today, but should be better than yesterday, which went like this: Rain, sun, rain, sun, hail, sun, rain. I managed to fit a walk in between cloudbursts but it was a near thing. At least I avoided the hail.

Lubin Grisette today. Cheerful and pretty – it elevates my wfh oversized tshirt and leggings.

When I was a kid, like, 8 to 10, I didn’t like wearing jeans, so I only wore leggings and sweatpants. And since it was the 80s there were some awesome track suits in there, too.

35 years later I wfm most of the time and my wardobe is pretty much the same, minus the tracksuits. And it’s my favorite thing about working from home. Roll out of bed, throw on comfy clothes, slap sunscreen on my face, make coffee, feed the cats, get to work.

And I can spray perfume all day long if i want.

I’m unsure if I have any Chypre scents for this week—it’s a genre that doesn’t suit my skin often. Instead, I poured out a few handfuls of La Chasse aux Papillons out of my big bottle and splashed that all over me. It feels so light and glistening as I sit in front of a fan and wear a cotton summer dress. The perfect warm-weather fragrance.

    Very cute “teapots” today, Robin.

I’m in a more modern chypre from circa 2010, though maybe earlier. It’s called The Garden Party Frangipane by The Party and was discontinued a long time ago. It smells a LOT like Azemour, which means it’s gorgeous. I’m not sure why they called it Frangipane because there’s no frangipane in sight, just a gorgeous citrus chypre.

    SOTD = Diptyque Volutes EDT

    Oy! Love!

    https://www.instagram.com/p/C6ZouEsxIRn/?igsh=bHB6NHRxamFnZWd1

Apparently, I am easily enabled, case in point: I literally bought the Zara Jardin Leather as soon as I saw the link posted. Of course, having been watching Peacock streaming (yeah yeah I am living with the commercials), I also just bought Yasso greek yogurt ice cream from Wegmans. So there’s that …

And for those who have NOT shopped at Aldi’s, and I myself have not in a while, here’s info on how the company is trying to be more efficient:

Pistachio Brittle. I haven’t had HD in a long while and not of pistachio either. Overall, I say the yasso tasted great and I will repurchase. I was looking for one without a chocolate coating but I may just have 2 types on hand for next time.

Quickly posting and running. I had lunch with one of my cousins today, and we caught up on a LOT of things. So good to see her again. We gabbed much more than we ate. Hopefully we will see each other a little more often now. That branch of my family tends to get together only for weddings and funerals…
