Acne Studios par Frederic Malle ~ new perfume

Posted by Robin on 11 March 2024 20 Comments

Frédéric Malle's next designer collaboration (after 2013's Dries Van Noten par Frédéric Malle and 2017's Alber Elbaz par Frédéric Malle Superstitious) will be for the Swedish luxury fashion house Acne Studios. Acne Studios par Frédéric Malle will debut in mid-April.

Per Jonny Johansson of Acne Studios,

It had to be light, it had to be fresh and crispy, but without being citrus and sporty. This sort of kitschy, slight [fabric] softener touch to the classical foundation was related to fashion and also to something very comfortable and secure that still would feel new, as I really love.

Acne Studios par Frédéric Malle was developed by perfumer Suzy Le Helley. The notes include aldehydes, rose violet, orange blossom, vanilla, peach, sandalwood, musks and frankincense.

Acne Studios par Frédéric Malle will be available in 50 ($295) and 100 ($470) ml Eau de Parfum.

Randomly commenting that I truly loath the company name “Acne”.

I do too! I wouldn’t buy it for that reason alone. Also, the price is utterly ridiculous for a fresh dryer sheet scent!

I would pay a possibly not-small sum of money *not* to smell like a dryer sheet

Because I looked it up, from Wikipedia:

When founded in 1996, the label derived its name from the creative collective ACNE; initially an acronym for Associated Computer Nerd Enterprises and later a backronym of Ambition to Create Novel Expressions.

(and I don’t much care for it either, but I also don’t much care either way)

(and the internet says they are responsible for millennial pink, btw)

I don’t much care for the name either. “What are you wearing?””Acne!”

IIIRC, there’s a boutique on Madison Ave. in the 70s or thereabouts.

$470 to smell like a fresh, crispy, dryer sheet?!? 🤣
    Another sign of the apocalypse.

I lived in a building in downtown Los Angeles that houses an ACNE store on the first floor. I, too, was put off by the name, but the sales associates pronounced it ÄK-nah, which isn’t terrible, and at least doesn’t connote the skin condition. Still, it doesn’t look right on the store window.

The clothing they sold, though, was pretty darn gorgeous – well out of my price range, but beautiful and cool.
And if Malle conjures anything like that, I’ll definitely be sampling it.

I’m curious to try it, but based on Malle’s name alone. Honestly nothing else is appealing.

I can’t do any orange blossom so I am safe from a ridiculous price, even for FM

Clearly not a huge fashion set that reads these pages. I’m looking forward to smelling this.
