Happy Friday and happy National Paper Airplane Day! Our community project for today: wear a fragrance inspired by air travel, or with "air" in the name, or do whatever you like with the theme, the sillier the better. (And a quick PSA: the swapmeet is open through Sunday.)
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm back in good old Kenzo Air (I wore it last Friday too).
Reminder: 6/2 will be Powder Puff Friday...wear something powdery! This is a repeat from 2015.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2023, where I'll try (but usually fail) to have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Not really, but kinda, CP compliant. I have nothing with air or similar words in the name…. So, I went with L’Eau Papier for….paper airplanes!
I’m testing my musk smelling abilities. This is pretty much straight up mimosa for me…a bit sour. But it’s nice. Thanks for the sample, Madtowngirl.
You’re welcome.😊 I thought about that one for the cp! I really loved the opening of that one so much so that I almost instantly ordered a bottle. Fortunately I didn’t because about 2 hours in all I got was ambroxan. You’ll have to let me know how it develops on your skin.
Are you having the most gorgeous weather!?🤞It is absolutely perfect here, sunny everyday for the extended forecast. This is the weather I live for.
I had exactly the same experience with this one. I hope Diptyque doesn’t continue in this vein. 🤞🏻
Hope not either. I really love Tam Dao, Eau Duelle and Fleur de Peau.
I love Tam Dao, too, plus 34, l’eau Geranium, and the Insensée version of Eau Rose.
It is gorgeous here too. Not as busy as I expected yet. Sunny, warm. Perfect for hamburgers and a cherry phosphate by the water and a drive around the county.
I think that totally fits the CP.
I really wanted to love this one, because Diptyque is one of my favorite houses. I only got soft mimosa and musk. No inky paper.
Perfect. Whoosh! 🌬️
So, I was going to go with L’Air du desert marocain for the cp, but I pulled out my mini and it is gone! Poof! Totally evaporated. Oh well. I can’t be too upset about it because it was a gift with purchase about 5 years ago. I think I only got a couple of wears out of it. Lesson learned, will never personally purchase one of those minis no matter how darn cute they are.
Anyway, I’m in Byredo De los Santos for a complete fail at the cp, but I smell good!😆
Today is the first day of Bratfest here, the worlds largest brat fest. I kid you not lol. The weatherman was interviewing the organizer last night and he said in 41 years of running it, this is the first ever Memorial Day weekend with NO rain in the forecast! We could not have ordered better weather. Thank you Mother Nature.☺️
Oh my. I better use up my Phi Rose.
Have fun at Bratfest!
Thanks!
Echoing Robin. Thanks for the PSA, I better go check on my PHI mini!
👍
It’s amazing that it won’t be raining here either.
Have a great weekend 🌞
You too!😎🤘🌞
Thank you for the inspiration – I went with :’Air du desert moroccain – from my teensy sample. I think it has been a bit exposed to air or something because it does not smell quite as rich or good, sort of has an edge of turned vintage gunk .
So I will refresh with Couer du desert in an hour or so.
And maybe invest in another sample lol.
You will be smelling great all day! I feel like my sample of this one lasted longer than the mini.☹️
Oh wow, I’m sorry it evaporated. Running to check my beloved PHI!
Yes, do check. Those minis are cute but not air tight apparently.
Glad that I never got one of those Tauer minis, despite being sorely tempted.
Oh man, I’d love a brat fest. I just saw a bumper sticker shaped like WI that said “Cheese and Crackers, Beer and Packers.”
I couldn’t find anything that suggested air travel or airplanes or paper or anything else, so I said to heck with it, I’ll wear the thing that has travelled the farthest by air to be with me, and that’s SL Feminité du Bois, which I bought in Japan. I checked the bottom of the bottle to see where it was manufactured, and discovered — after owning this for over 10 years! — that, unsurprisingly, I guess, the label on the bottom is entirely in Japanese. A quick bout of Google Translate tells me it was in fact manufactured in France, so it had to travel to Japan with its littermates and then come back to Canada with me, a heck of a voyage. It is mostly cedar and plums and I love it, because I think of all the woods, I love cedar the most, even more than sandalwood.
Oh wow, that’s really cool! And a great interpretation of the cp imho.
This!

Angels have wings to fly right?!
Met a friend for breakfast and I am trying to new “natural/clean” makeup ilia, Victoria Beckham, and Westman Atelier
I love Ilia tinted lip balms, their foundation not that much. Please let us know what you think.
I am using the Ilia mascara and so far so good
For Westman Atelier I am trying their blush sticks-I got it in a very fresh coral/peach color for spring and also their Super Loaded tinted highlight. VB I am using the lid lustre.

I saw this bag in a magazine and thought of you. It’s made in collaboration with a Moroccan women’s collective, perfect for lugging books.
Love LOVE 💕
Not CP compliant but L’Artisan compliant in Coeur de Vetiver Sacre.
L’Artisan compliant is important too 🙂
Non CP compliant, here, too-wearing Iris Poudre. I didn’t think I liked this, but I bought the 30 ml size and I love it. Have no idea why I bought it, except it was at a discounter for a decent price. Then I bought another one lol. I wish they kept the 30 ml size in stock all the time, and I like the chic black bakelite packaging.
Hope the long weekend is good to you-our was last weekend and it was nice but cold. Brilliant weather for this weekend.
Sounds like you’re set for next week’s CP. 😁
I’m so far behind, I’m actually ahead 🙂
You smell wonderful – I love Iris Poudre!
Thank you, Mossy Berry 🙂
They many times have it at a pretty good price for the 50 ml size at Jomashop-no affiliation. I actually bought one and then decided the price was so good decided to get a BUB.
Thank you, Kris-I hadn’t heard of Jomashop. I bought mine at Fragrance net-similar prices, plus they seems to looks after customs/duties. Brutal sometimes getting things in from other countries.
I’m taking double CP points (and donating half to Desirae as promised!) in Vol de Nuit extrait (on wrists and in elbow crooks) and vintage EDT (on back of neck). Man, I smell good! Happy Friday everyone!
You smell divine!
You sure do smell good! 🤩
Thanks to everyone for the anniversary well wishes yesterday!
I’m commando for a doctor’s appointment, will wear Moth afterwards for a flying thing.
Good luck with your appointment 😊
Hope that your doctor’s appointment was boring and routine!
Thanks everyone for your kind and supporting words yesterday. They are always very comforting and appreciated.
I am wearing L’Artisan Un Air de Bretagne for the CP. One of my favorite L’Artisan perfumes. Very airy, salty, refreshing and perfect for summertime.
We are having a beautiful day today. Sunny and in the low 70’s. Expecting a gorgeous weekend weather also.
On my second cup of coffee and counting the hours for the working day to be over.
Happy Friday! ☕️
Have a happy weekend . I hope you find a quiet spot where you can relax
Thank you, Kanuka!
Sending you wishes for strength, comfort and peace’s to get through these tough times with your mom. 🤗
‘peace’ not ‘peace’s’
Thank you, Laila!
Have a wonderful and peaceful holiday weekend.
Thank you, Jalapeno! I hope you feel better soon!
Hey PL67,
I missed it but hope the weekend gives you what you need.
HUG
Thank you, Portia!
Forgive me Donnatella for I have sinned, I bought a bottle of Gris Charnel edp. The extrait version was a little too rich for my blood. I am not sure how compliant with the CP today but I am in Deneuve today.
The natural history museum was a bust. They were doing a renovation and 99% of everything was closed off. They had a full triceratops skeleton, the Lucy skeleton on display along with a half an hour movie and their wildlife display available.
What a shame about the natural history museum.
Oh drat! Hope they did not charge full price.
I am wearing the classic L’air du temps. I always forget how lovely it is, transports me to the past. I am off today, it feels good to stay at home. I woke up late, walked, tonight I have a fundraiser to go, i hope it goes well.
I love your SOTD. Love its beautiful bottle too-you smell amazing 🙂
👋 twin! It sure took me to the past!
Back in L’ Air du Temps, just so I could post this ridiculous ad from days of yore (never saw it prior to seeking out ads on youtube):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F-SbP5zxaQM
Oh my god, so hilariously ludicrous!
😂
Thanks for sharing!
Love it! I find it very romantic actually!
😀
That is funny 😄
I don’t remember ever seeing that a but I sure do remember Carson’s! One of my favorite stores!
For my take on the CP, I’m wearing the latest perfume that I flew to buy: Nomenclature Minted. I did not know of this line at all until I sniffed a number of their perfumes at Aedes last weekend. I liked the three I tried very much.
Good to know! I haven’t tried this line yet.
You guys both probably know this but they’re an Aedes-adjacent brand.
😯 I did not! Do you mean that Aedes produces this line as well as their own?
It’s one of the owners of Aedes who’s involved with this brand, I believe.
Karl Bradl and Robert Gerstner founded Aedes, and together they do the Aedes line.
Karl, along with designer Carlos Quintana, are behind Nomenclature.
CP variant compliant (Time Flies) in Aedes de Venustas Signature. This was a very early perfumista love for me – I couldn’t then and still can’t get over the captivating tomato leaf and rhubarb combo.
At the time, I thought this would be my signature fragrance, following L’Artisan Santal, a linden fragrance I can’t remember now (part of the time flying thing), Antonia’s Flowers and the original Miss Dior. But as luck would have it, the fragrant journey has continued and keeps evolving, largely thanks to NST.
On another fragrant note, my Cecile Brunner rose bush is blooming like crazy and I can’t get enough of those sweet little pink flowers. It’s another time flying connection because my grandmother had a Cecile Brunner climbing on a trellis near her front door that I always loved and associate with her.
You smell wonderful, I love Aedes Signature!
Isn’t it special?
I love your sotd. You smell wonderful.
Thank you!
I love Cecile Brunner . We had it in our garden when I grew up , just amazing.
I find it’s often the bush roses that end up being the most fragrant.
I have Cecile, too, forming an archway into my backyard garden. She’s beautiful!
That sounds beautiful.
Your rose bush sounds lovely.
It is. It also worries Mr. allo a bit because it has really taken off. I’m pretty good at training it but we’ll see how it looks after we’ve been gone on vacation for a few weeks😬
Gosh, why don’t i have one of those bushes?? Poor planning!
They grow REALLY fast. Plant one now and flowers will abound!
I would if I thought I would stay in this house, but there’s a good chance we’ll move next year. But now I know 🙂
I’m in Vol de Nuit and loving it! I thought I would wear Alaia today because it allegedly smells like the interior of the Concorde, but eh, I really have to be the mood for Alaia and I wasn’t this morning.
Lots of work to catch up on today, but really looking forward to the long weekend.
Hi twin!
Compliant (somewhat?) in Tauer Maghreb cologne. It will be gone in 60 seconds, so after that I don’t know!
From Britannica: “The weather of the Maghreb is characterized by prevailing westerly winds, which drop most of their moisture on the northern slopes and coastal plain, leaving little for the southern slopes, which maintain desert scrub fading into true desert in the Sahara to the south.”
Oh, I do know… Volutes, for tobacco through the air.
Both great ideas SarahN!
I went with the paper part of paper airplane and am in Diptyque L’Eau Papier. It is a conceptual take on the smell of paper rather than a realistic paper scent, but I like it and don’t regret buying my 50 ML bottle which I got for a discount of forty five dollars off.
Now I wish I could find Eau Duelle on such a discount.
There’s an ebay seller (not me) who has lots of partial Diptyques at great prices.
I am not CP compliant. SOTD is Ingenious Ginger and I am in love with this new fragrance from G&B. The only other one I love is Silky Woods.
I will be doing something that is CP compliant later today. Getting my yellow fever vaccination for Kenya. So there’s an airplane connection – just not yet.
Doing this today for holiday weekend because I expect to feel like crap for a few days.
Good luck with your vaccination. Sounds so exotic, really.
and painful!
I think I had one in my 20s when I moved to the middle east but have not records. Cholora shots were THE worst. Now you get a pill.
I decided to wear something from Gallivant since their logo is a paper airplane! I chose Brooklyn, a fizzy ginger-musk scent that feels right for a sunny holiday weekend in New York.
Clever choice! Sounds nice, too.
I never noticed their logo. Nice tie-in!
Excellent, I didn’t think of that either!
For the CP, joining others in the “air” part of a paper airplane: L’Air de Rien. I smell a spicy, salty and pleasant sweetness rather than all the, er, dramatic things many reviewers report. I have a version from 3 or so years ago. I also considered Jessica Simpson’s Fancy Nights, which has a papyrus note that I love but didn’t want too much of a reach for the CP. Fancy Nights, BTW, does have for me a quite dramatic profile. Happy Friday, all, and high perfumed five to my fellow Eastern USA’ers, who I think are all having perfect weather for the long weekend. PSA: I am always very moved by the National Memorial Day Concert which is broadcast on PBS. If anyone has never seen it, give it a try.
Fancy Nights is on par with Angel, IMO.
I also went for paper by sampling Paper White from DSH
Nice tie in!
I’m back from the grocery store so I have very little food and a large total on my receipt. I just can not get over these price increases.
I’m working tonight so I wanted to wear a perfume I love to get through it. I’m wearing YSL Champagne. Champagne has bubbles and bubbles are filled with air. I’m taking points! Lol.
I hope everyone has a great weekend. I am off tomorrow but will be working Sunday. I don’t know about Monday yet.
Clever and you smell wonderful of course.
Thank you Aurora 😊
All the points to you! Love the bubbles association. Hope you have a couple of no drama days at work. And yeah, food is absolutely ridiculous! These poor older folks who are living on a shoestring…gosh, I feel for them!
Yeah.. as bad as I feel for me, I feel worse and more angry when I see an elderly person with the bare necessities in their cart. I wish I knew who to yell at.
Champagne is wonderful
It really is.
You smell delicious. I hope you have a good night and get compliments on your beautiful bubbles of scent!
4 hours to go! No compliments so far but that’s ok.
I hear you on the grocery store sticker shock. My trip yesterday was more than I expected.
Enjoy your SOTD today and the day off tomorrow!
Every week it gets worse here.
Strangely enough I just was on an airplane yesterday, Newark to Houston. I try not to wear scent or much of it at least on planes because of, you know, proximity. My association of perfume with airplanes is DUTY FREE shopping! Ha ha! I had several to choose from that I purchased in said shops: Eau Premiere (Detroit), Patou Sublime (Sydney), and Elixir des Merveilles (Kennedy). But I’ve chosen Amouage Honour Woman (Heathrow). In fact I like to buy perfume, if I find a good one, so that it using it later on will give me a wonderful scent association with a fun trip.
I hope you had a good flight and I love the duty free connection.
Oh jeez, I hate flying through Newark, almost always delayed there. Never have gone to duty free, guess I am missing out.
I totally get the trip/vacation association. There are perfumes I still associate with vacation because I tend to try samples when I travel.
Again doing MossyBerry’s them from last week of fragrances learned about through NST friends. I learned about Kai several years ago from Robin. It was great because a local boutique carried the lotion, cream, Eau de Toilette and the roll on. I just found out today the are going to quit carrying it😕 I really enjoy this gardenia in the summer months.
Oh, my too many spelling errors. So sorry.
Thank you for reminding me that I have, also from an NST friend, a sample of Kai. I need to give it a proper wearing! If it may go away, the time of decision may be here!
Oh, I think just the boutique in town here isn’t going to carry it. I think Nordstrom stores carry it and maybe others too.
So nice to see a Kai mention! I still have little samples 🙂
Chiming back in to say that I wrote a few days ago that I thought Mugler’s Aura was being discontinued. But now I am not sure where I got that idea so it may not be correct.
Good to know, thanks MossyBerry!
Just ONE spot left in the Zoologist split at the splitmeet. Don’t miss out!
I am CP compliant in Chypre Mousse. How does one get a mousse? By whipping air into the base mixture. Plus, I love the light green/mineral aspects of it.
whip it good!
Smoothie is Gala apples and yogurt
Went with RP Visa edp for the CP, it smells heavenly on my sleeves, I also have a bottle of the extrait which is fruitier but thedp is plenty strong enough, I’m contemplating what to wear tonight, perhaps Youth Dew bath oil, I recently acquired a turqoise blue vintage opaque bottle.
I have never tried putting apples into a smoothie but it sounds interesting. May I ask what kind of yogurt you use? Greek or not? I’ve used Greek yogurt but it doesn’t seem to blend as well.
Yes, regular plain yogurt, not greek and juicy apples like those Gala, it makes a good smoothie.
Congrats on the bath oil.
Thank you Lillyjo, I didn’t explain well, I have the bath oil from several years ago, what I acquired recently in a blue turquoise bottle is a vintage EDP, very concentrated, I’m pleased with it but still like my vintage oil better because it’s easier to wear, less dated, I feel. Well, I now have enough Youth Dew😉
Currently wearing the mild solar floweryness of Kopari sunscreen. Headed back to the salt mines tonight for two nights.
Just turned down a contract and hope I don’t regret it, but it is what it is.
I’ve been seeing a lot of staff nurses posting emails from their upper management about how they are cutting costs because they lost so much money during Covid (not sure how that is since the government was giving hospitals hand outs left and right, millions of dollars in fact..?). Cutting nursing staff, cutting EVS, cutting dietary, no more holiday pay for certain days, but no where was it mentioned they’d be cutting the millions and millions of dollars going to upper management in the form of salaries and bonuses..? Oh, that’s right! They’re the one making all the “rules!” 🤣
Just read an article about a retired hospital CEO who was in the ER and needed to be transfused and was INCENSED it took four hours! Guess he didn’t care that the nurse was NOT an ER nurse, but a new floor nurse who had a total of five patients, 2 of them critically ill, and this nurse had no critical care experience. Sorry Mr Former CEO, you go to the back of the line! 😎
Really, I hope every single hospital worker goes on strike, because that’s what it going to come to.
If you got this far, you get the prize! Lol. I tried my coffee with brown sugar because I was out of white, and a little splash of vanilla extract. It was delish, so thank you to jalapeño for the suggestion (I THINK it was jalapeño..?)☕️
Happy holiday weekend! I’ll be keeping a low profile and staying off the roads as much as possible. Please drive carefully and watch out for the inebriated (which sounds a bit better than “drunks” I guess😉).
Going to try that with my after-dinner decaf tonight. 😋
Hey! Pleased as punch to hear that my suggestion about the vanilla extract worked out for you! 😎
I’m in the water today with Heeley’s Sel Marin. I’ve been going through decant after decant. Think it’s time to spring for a bottle.
After shower tonight I’ll put on some Vol de Nuit.
I’ve heard that the parfum has been discontinued. Or perhaps it’s just the propeller bottle?
I’ve been late in listing a couple of splits for the meet. Hope it’s ok to mention that here – Diptyque Benjoin Boheme and Eau Moheli.
Have a very good holiday everyone!
I would call one of the US Guerlain boutiques to ask, they might know.
I’m wearing cloud and matching it to this poem High Flight by John Gillespie Magee. He was a fighter pilot in the Canadian airforce WW2, killed in a mid-air collision . One of the lines reminds me of Bladerunner ( Rutger Hauer speech). We re off to buy a Stratocaster today so that should be fun.
Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I’ve climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
of sun-split clouds,—and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of—wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov’ring there,
I’ve chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air ….
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark nor ever eagle flew—
And, while with silent lifting mind I’ve trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.
http://www.macla.co.uk/scopwick/magee.php
And a bit about Magee, his brother’s memories
On January 28, 1986, President Ronald Regan used the the first and last lines of this aching lovely poem to mark the Challenger explosion disaster.
I can remember sitting and weeping.
I remember that speech. And the horror of seeing Challenger explode over and over again on the news that day.
Thank you. I didn’t remember that connection.
Such a beautiful poem. Thanks for posting it.
My collection is, it turns out, light as air when it comes to things airy. But can legit claim CP points here with some vintage Vent Vert.
When my L’Air du Temps wears off, I’ll be joining you in vintage Vent Vert. I absolutely ❤️this scent in spring!
Yes, it is spring perfect, isn’t it?
I finally found some CP inspiration. I bought a FB of Rivalité Impériale from the brand Plume Impression in my travels. A plume is a feather, so I’m all ready to be airborne, as long as I ignore flightless birds 🙂
I’ve also been reading about the new David Attenborough series about dinosaurs, which shows them with the feathers we’ve learnt about in the last few decades. Thete was not a lot of flying with those feathers either.
I had thought about Francesca Bianchi’s Lost in Heaven, for the angel connection, but it’s a bit much for my hair appointment in a couple of hours.
Hope your hair turns out perfect, Gaynor! And nice workaround on the cp 🙂
For today’s cp, I’m going with the classic L’Air du Temps. I have 2 bottles, both vintage of at least 25 years+, and, interestingly, both were given to me by 2 people dear to me at the time. The scent I’m wearing today is the edt from a lovely tall columnar white-embossed spray bottle that one of my best-bosses-ever gave me as a Christmas present while I worked for him (I’m guessing that his wife probably chose it). The other bottle is a dab-on that a dear friend gave me for an occasion I can’t remember now but it was around the same time as I received the other. We met at a jazz dance class and became very close as we were both going through difficult times then. While I still stay in contact from time to time with my ex-boss, I’ve lost touch with my friend. I need to find her again! I don’t wear this scent very often and it’s bringing back many happy memories of both of these people so important to me once upon a time. And the fact that L’Air was launched just after WWII in 1948 and its dove is a symbol of peace makes it the perfect choice for Memorial Day Weekend!🇺🇸
It’s been a beautiful week here. The weather has been gorgeous and earlier in the week the nights were warm enough to leave our bedroom windows open. My lilacs just outside the bedroom have been in full bloom and their intoxicating fragrance has been joined by the large creamy white blossoms of a nearby locust tree that hang gracefully nearly to the ground just above our little waterfall. It’s been heaven!
The weather is forecast to be beautiful all weekend. Looking forward to some gardening this weekend, an outdoor concert with Patchouli & Terra Guitara, favorites of ours, a delayed celebration of Mother’s Day ( and a special cake my son is baking for me), and a trip to the Sox game to cap off the weekend. Wishing everyone a lovely one ahead!
I love the association with your bottles, that’s very special.
Your weekend sounds perfect!
Just for today’s CP, I broke open my bottle of Kenzo Amour Make Me Fly! ✈️ I’ve had it for ages, but never felt in the mood for it. Today I know why: frooty-floral-fest. So not me, lol!
But, at least I’m house twins with Robin. I love Kenzo Amour Indian Holi for the rice note. Next time I’ll stick with that. Or a new love, Violet Un Air d’Apogee, which was on yesterday. So pretty!
Oh my, totally forgot that one! What a name!
Yeah, it flew under the radar. 😂
I’m back to sitting on the couch with the heating pad for a sore back today. I woke up this morning a hurting unit. Am very displeased with this turn of events.
SOTD = Korres Guava lotion on my shins again. For the CP, I thought longingly of a spritz of LAdDM from the Sample Stash. Still not feeling perfume yet, especially with those home improvement projects coming down the pike.
Are you able to take any ibuprofen or a muscle relaxer?
Been taking Advil twice a day.
So sorry about the back pain. Icy Hot was helpful to my brother in similar circumstances.
I completely forgot about Icy Hot. However, my back is feeling much better today.
No more picking up heavy boxes of books for now!
I went with Azurée, for the azure blue sky, since the word air always reminds me of the sky. Have a great Memorial Day weekend, everyone!
What a nice association!
I’m in Sur le Nil today. Started out with 18 sprays this morning and when that faded, I went with another 8 sprays.
Got some sun today. Went out at 10am, which felt safe to my fair skin. Went to Trader Joe’s, but shopped hungry. When will I learn? Came home with three loaves of bread (I actually needed two) and four spices, new to me.
I hope everyone has a great holiday weekend. The weather is supposed to be lovely here in Houston.
18 sprays!
Have a good weekend 🌞
Hajusuuri would be proud!
I am wearing Liis Floating, since planes glide/float to some extent.
