Lazy weekend poll ~ open thread, April Fools 2023

Posted by Robin on 1 April 2023 122 Comments

Rabbit rabbit rabbit! If it's Saturday, welcome to April and happy April Fools Day. It it's Sunday, happy International Children’s Book Day (aka Hans Christian Andersen’s birthday).

We’re celebrating all the occasions (and preparing for Donatella's visit on Monday) with our standard open thread poll. Talk about anything you like — the fragrance you’re wearing today, the last fragrance you almost bought but didn't (yet), whatever.

Or, ask a question about fragrance, then see if anyone else has asked a question that you can answer…

Note: the 85g chocolate bunnies, stuffed with chocolate fish, are available in dark and milk chocolate at La Maison du Chocolat USA, $32 each.

    Rainy day today, April Showers…

I am smelling cozy today in Gris Charnel. Like have a plate of figs with a nice cup of spicy tea. Perfect for today

I am still reading Let it Come Down
Also, have been listening to apples new classical music app. So far I like it.

Gris Charnel hand me down bottle by the way- was a gift from a friend. I don’t think she didn’t like it per se, but she broke the sprayer and couldn’t be bothered to fix it.

We had a rainy morning but sunny skies now 🙂

Trying desperately to catch up with New Yorkers, so that is my reading today.

I am a little confused by the chocolate rabbit filled with fish. Why fish? Is there a rabbit/fish connection of which I am unaware?

I can’t believe it’s April already, but I say that about almost every month that goes by. Today I am wearing Aedes De Venustas and thinking about my next vacation. Maybe somewhere in the continental US, I haven’t been to DC in a while.

In France you can give chocolate fish for Easter, it’s as popular as giving chocolate rabbits and I suppose La Maison Du Chocolat combined the two; I believe the origin of the tradition is that early Christians recognized each other by drawing a fish as a cryptic sign.

Also, instead of April Fool, the expression in France is Poisson d’avril (April fish).

Last one I almost bought (and still might) is PE Iskander, because Beautyhabit had a code last week. A classic, can’t-go-wrong citrus chypre.

But I bought plenty last quarter, which Donatella will be hearing about next week…

Hello NST folk, coming to you from Cairo! It’s 6pm on Saturday evening here, and it looks as if I’ve arrived nice and early for the weekend poll.
Everything has gone very well so far on our trip. I told myself that I wasn’t going to believe that I was going to visit Egypt until I actually got here, and here I am 🙂
We’ve had a day trip to Alexandria, seen some of Cairo and visted museums, and tomorrow is the pyramids at Giza and Saqqara.
I don’t have any perfume news yet, I sniffed a few new-to-me things in Sydney airport, but we didn’t have enough time in Dubai airport for serious exploration.
We spent about 2 minutes in a perfume shop outside the Egyptian Museum just before our bus left, but I’m hoping for further opportunities.

    Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit! 🐇🐇🐇.
Rainy, but warm and humid day. We will reach the mid 60’s, so I am keeping all windows full open. I was thinking about postponing my errands, but decided to go outside and enjoy the warm temperatures.

I am starting a week of incense perfumes. I need some calm and peace feeling during this Holy Week. Layering Aftelier Ancient Resins Body Oil with Comme des Garcons Jaisalmer.

Finishing my second cup of coffee and a toast with peanut butter and jelly and ready to go out.
    Happy Saturday! ☕️

I think we have not done an incense community project in a while. I will give some love to those incense perfumes that I don’t reach for often. Or I may also mix them with some of my favorite ones.

We are having beautiful sunny skies now and 68 degrees. This is the first warm gorgeous day of the season. I am really enjoying it! 🌞

Rainy Saturday here too, but not warm enough to open the windows. I’m spending my Saturday (and probably the next couple of weeks) cleaning up all the paint splatters my #%&$! painter left all over my beautiful hardwood floors. So easily avoidable if he had covered the floors properly. There is no such thing as good construction work. It’s either messy, poorly done or both. And it’s crazy expensive, like everything else nowadays. Enjoying a Cadbury egg in preparation for Easter, as well as some lovely hot cross buns.

I was really surprised to come across a bottle of CDG Daphne in a shop here. I thunked a bottle ten years ago and hadn’t seen it since so I sprayed the sample and it seemed pretty much the same as I remembered…big and strong. The trees are all golden now and the leaves are dropping, and crunching underfoot. But even so there are signs of regrowth as all the rhododendrons are already forming new buds, they will open in late August.

Oh, how nice to have daphne in your yard! It’s pretty abundant in my neighborhood, but I’m sad that one of the closest apartment buildings with daphne bushes in front removed the bushes over the winter. I can’t understand why either. They’ve planted new things but I will really miss getting my daphne fix there.

Happy April! Got a marketing email from Evan Healy (organic products company) that actually made me LOL; an announcement of their men’s skincare line, featuring photos of men in rugged outdoor settings performing various ablutions. Following the pics, it says April Fools, skin is skin and “good skincare is genderless.” Tell that to the poor beleaguered Old Spice guy & his bodywash!
April’s come in like a lion in my neck of the woods with damp chilly winds. Am in 24 Faubourg, since it was mentioned a few times last week.

We are having yet another dreck day, the temperature has dropped 12 degrees F since I got up this morning. It’s also alternately pouring rain or wet snow, with high winds. But the grass is beginning to green up and the buds on the maple trees are popping so hopefully we’ll get some ☀️ soon.
After that long whine, I’m wearing Gris Clair for the melancholy aspect and watching old movies this afternoon. Maybe I’ll be less crabby after a nap.

Angel Muse edp today – chocolatey and woody. I never knew Angel OG in all its glory. I was not aware of Mugler fragrances at all until rabbit-rabbit hole. 🙂 The first one I tried was Alien edp which I liked right away, so I never bothered to look into Angel. But eventually I branched out. I really enjoy Muse, and Angel edt, standing star version. I’ve got a bottle of Muse edt on the way, as I think several NST’ers recommend it. Scary winds and NWS warnings last night; I was awakened by a couple of small-but-from-high-up branches falling on the roof. No damage but they made thumping and crunching noises so that it was a while before the adrenaline cleared out! I was surprised how small they were when I saw them this morning.

It’s a fun fragrance, and the ambroxan in this one is luckily just a whisper that is bearable.

Our April Fool’s treat was snow this morning. And lots of wind. Followed by sunshine and melting.

Afternoon shower followed by Aveeno lavender body lotion. I love lavender. So, added a couple spritzes of Burberry Brit Rhythm.

Anyone recommend a good lavender scented (or non-Eucalyptus scented) shower bomb?

LUSH has a “Sleepy” scented shower bomb, but I have only tried the shower gel. The gel is definitely lavender and tonka.

I love my Burberry Brit Rhythm shower gel followed by the perfume when I’m in the mood for a lasting lavender fix. 😊

    🐰🐰🐰!

It’s WARM and muggy after a rainy, thunder-y start this morning. The little weather widget on my new laptop said that it was 71 degrees F here not too long ago. I turned off the heat around lunchtime. But it will probably be turned back on tomorrow.

So I guess Mother Nature is having a bit of April Fools fun.

SOTD = Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Rosa Rossa EdT, from the Sample Stash and hajusuuri. She and I are “so close to thunking this” twins today. 🤣🤣🤣

There is a truly nasty looking weather front headed my way this afternoon, according to the local weather folks. It’s probably going to hit within an hour.

Logged in to let you know that I am OK. The Tornado Watch became a Tornado Warning, but all I got was lots of rain, pea sized hail, and lots of straight line wind.

No broken windows, and the power is still on.

We had major rainstorms here last night and today was only in the 30″s.

I’m down so many rabbits already this year, there’s probably no hope for me. But, spring is in the air and I’m wafting BF Au Delá today.

Worked last night, slept today, woke at 5pm, had breakfast and coffee, fed and walked the doggo, then got a called off due to census drop. WIDE awake at this point and probably will be all night….🙄

      What is a census drop?

It’s when the number of inpatients dropped to the point that management decides a unit is “over-staffed” and proceeds to cancel nurses scheduled to work that particular day/night.

Remembered to rabbit at 3 am in an on-and-off night’s sleep. Got a much-needed haircut this morning, and watched just about every kind of weather — we had torrential rain, gorgeous sunshine, hail with thunder, howling winds … ah, springtime in Oregon. Wore Tam Dao for serenity, and think I will join pl67 in a week of incense — sounds lovely.

Delighted! I’m starting the week today (Sunday) with La Via Del Profumo Hindu Kush, a very amber-y incense.

You smell great! I finished a sample of Hindu Kush a couple of years ago. It is a very nice green spicy incense with an interesting pine sap note.

Wearing L’Artisan Passage D’Enfer for my week of incense scents.

After a warm, sunny day in the upper 60’s yesterday, today is very windy with temps feeling in the lower 30’s. This is crazy!
Having a cup of hot chocolate with a dash of cayenne pepper and a hot cross bun for breakfast. I hope to finally finish my taxes today.

    Happy Sunday! 🌿

Oh my god, that is real weather from the sixties to the thirties.

You smell discreetly elegant in Passage d’Enfer, I have a bottle too, never tried the newish extreme.

Drastic changes in the weather are becoming more frequent lately. At least the day is sunny, which I appreciate.

I haven’t tried Passage D’Enfer Extreme yet, but I hope it is as good as the original one.

    I’m back home from Esxence.
It was exciting but also super hectic and tiring. Especially on Saturday when visitors without accreditation could enter the fair as well. It was just too many people inside to be able to be productive.
But I smelled my fair share of what I wanted to smell and tried also some stuff I haven’t given a go before. Plus many brands I just decided I won’t try since I wasn’t tempted to approach them just by looking from the distance. Yes, I’m being a bit judgemental but Esxence is not a Pokemon game and you can’t “smell em all” – gotta filter the good stuff from mediocrity.

    Hello there NSTers.

Relieved by today’s calm weather. It’s about 20 degrees cooler than yesterday, and there is a Freeze Warning for tonight. So I am on the same temperature roller coaster that PL67 is.

The National Weather Service confirmed that a EF-1 tornado did touch down in my area last night, 2 towns away. A little too close for my liking.

SOTD = Guerlain Aqua Allegoria Rosa Rossa again.

I don’t know if we actually had a tornado but we got some serious wind and a bit of hail. The temperature drop today was stunning but we did have a nice walk in the sun anyway.
