It's Friday and Jacques Guerlain's birthday. Our community project for today: wear a Guerlain fragrance if you have one. Extra points if it was created by Jacques Guerlain, quintuple bonus points for wearing a week of Guerlain representing five different Guerlain perfumers. Adapted from a suggestion by Oakland Fresca.
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I'm in the Jacques Guerlain masterpiece, Après L’Ondée.
Reminder: 10/14 will be Indie / Nouveau Niche Friday....wear a fragrance from an indie / niche brand. Extra points if it was launched after the last time we did this project in 2019. (We've done several of these projects in the past, too.) Adapted from a suggestion by hajusuuri.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Good morning!
I’m wearing Shalimar MVP and looking forward to reading comments/impressions on the new Millésime Tonka which I know many of you already have and will no doubt wear today.
Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend!
I want to hear too…so far, reviews seem mixed?
You smell great!
Thank you MTG, and so do you!
I am wearing a few drops of Shalimar pure perfume today for points.
Many asked what I think about the new flanker yesterday and I wanted to give it a full day wearing before coming to any conclusions. First you should know I have never met a Shalimar flanker I didn’t like!
Pros: I think if Shalimar and Tonka Imperial were to have a love child that would be the smell of the flanker. Its very feminine and sexy. I will try one day to wear Shalimar and TI together and compare and report back if its smells like the flanker.
Cons- Very Linear to my nose-I think original Shalimar has a long prelude before it goes into the dry down of vanilla goodness. I love the journey of the original on the skin. The flanker doesn’t do that to my nose. The lasting power is a huge disappointment.
If I had to pick one flanker that still wins my heart over it would still be the Ode Vanille Madagascar. This is the bottle I drained and repurchased.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I totally agree. Even though I love the new Tonka, it is not my favourite ( me too I prefer Madagascar) and the lasting power is disappointing.
I love all Shalimar but have my preferences.
Madagascar is THE best shalimar flanker 😍
Thank you ltsg and Hera…I think I will skip this one!
I have it, and I don’t disagree. One thing I do like is when I get the bitter almond…love me that bitter almond.
Thanks for the report! Can’t wait to try it.
I agree! It is very reminiscent of Tonka Imperiale.
Thanks, good to know. I’ve been reluctant to blind buy as I’m not a fan of bitter almond or marzipan (I’ve heard both mentioned as notes in MT). Will try it at some point when an opportunity presents itself.
Day five of Guerlain for ALL the points in what I think is the house’s greatest creation, Mitsouko, by Jacques Guerlain. Every single time I wear it I am bowled over by the depth, the complexity, the haunting autumn-leaf beauty of it.
All the points and another miracle scent.
Autumn-leaf beauty is exactly right, it’s perfect for this time of year.
Twinsies!!
Triplets!! I had to save The Queen for our final day of the CP! Five points for me this week!
Yes, yes, yes., I totally agree!👍
Great pick, twin! I’m in the edp courtesy of a lovely NSTer.
I am wearing Shalimar EdP.
Another gorgeous warm sunny day. Wishing all a happy and healthy Friday! 🌞
It is indeed lovely out, again, yay!
Yay! Glad the sun showed up!🌞🥳
I *know* that you were enjoying today’s weather!
And you smell wonderful. That’s what I wore twice this week!
I am also in Mitsouko, which is my favorite Guerlain. I am in the edt, which is my favorite of the two that I’ve tried, which are the edt, and the edp. I have never tried the extract, but I will if I can find a sample.
Also,TWINSIES!
We are now quadruplets!!
I am wearing Iris Ganache, my all-time favorite Guerlain
You smell gorgeous!
Twins! (Or at least, sorta twins! I ended up in two Guerlains again today.)
Millesime Tonka is back on the US websit. 10:35a.m. EDT
Thanks for the tip! I’d given up. 😅
Me too, and I went elsewhere, but a couple people on Fragrantica have mentioned it this morning.
And just as I read this, I got an email that it came back into stock. Glad I managed to get one, thanks to your help.
Glad to hear someone really got an email! Looking askance at you, Guerlain.
I ordered one this morning around 9am (eastern) but was skeptical since they cancelled my last order. But they sent me a tracking number about an hour ago, so I’m hopeful that it is on its way.
I signed up for “back in stock” notifications at my personal email and work email. They sent one to my work email at about 11am, but never sent one to my personal email 🤨
I’m wearing Mitsouko today, which might have a tiny edge on Shalimar as my favorite Jacques Guerlain scent. He is the number one nose that I would resurrect to make me a custom perfume If I were a necromancer.
Twins, and I expect the family will grow 😀
Yup,we’re growing in numbers!
Up to QUINTUPLETS!
Having read all the posts thus far, I think we’re up to septuplets, but I may have lost count! 🙀
Not full points for me, because I plan to crack open a sample of Le Plus Beau Jour de Ma Vie that I’ve had kicking around for a few years now. It’s still in the sealed envelope. Will report back.
Had a fun day yesterday…unexpected day off. I intended to clean but I decided instead to hit a couple farm markets. Drove through the inland, non-crowded roads and saw lovely colors popping all over. Bought some cherry marmalade and black raspberry butter as well as some “chai nog” tea. Continued north and bought three very large pumpkins that are still in the trunk of my car. Stopped at the Y and got my membership (which is included in my health plan). Final stop was the candy store and a t shirt place. Sad to see only one bar of my beloved candy bars…they won’t have more till they reopen in the summer. Bought a small t shirt for the Romanian girl who has been working with us in the bakery this summer. She heads off to tour the West and then home on Sunday. Will be sad t9 see her and all the kids go.
Sounds like a great day off. Driving the non crowded roads is my favorite way to travel.
Up here, you have to know them during summer or you’d never get anywhere. Huge tour bus pulled into the better known farm market as I was there. This weekend and next will be very busy ones.
When people ask, “what do you do in the winter?” a common response is “Make left turns.”
For anyone wondering why…there are literally NO stop lights in our county above the county seat, which is about 15 miles south of us. Very few four-way stops.
LOL about the left turns comment!
Cherry marmalade and black raspberry butter both sound delicious
Hello all!
Happy Guerlain day. Sadly 95% of my Guerlain collection is still in storage from my move, so today I’m in Ginger Piccante. I bought it blind but it beats out most of the Aqua Allegorias I’ve smelled in the past decade.
Have a great day everyone.
That works! Hope it was a good Friday Coumarin.
I realized too late that I had some 90’s Vetiver but by then I was in full on sniffing mode at the niche boutique.
I’m sure that was in preparation for next week’s cp 😉
Wearing Apres L’ondee today. Was thinking of wearing vintage Jicky but haven’t worn Apres L’ondee in much longer.
Hey twin!
And I’m also a partial twin!
I’m in Samsara. I was surprised to see that I have enough variety of Guerlain to wear something different the entire week and then some. I don’t think of myself as a Guerlain fan, but I guess it’s just that I don’t care for the classics…mitsouko, l’heure bleue and original Shalimar.😬 Sorry.
Jacques is in good company because it’s my son’s birthday too. 26. Not sure how that happened. We were up early and I took him downtown to my favorite place for breakfast. This afternoon I will bake his favorite chocolate cake. It’s been a few years since we were able to be with him on his birthday, so it’s nice to be able to celebrate together. Due to various life events, he’s been back home for almost a year now. The other day my teenager made the comment that “it’s nice having him around. We’re buddies now.” Gah.😭 Instant lump in the throat. There are 9 years, and a sister, between them and up until the last couple of years they really did not have much in common. Now they have many shared interests and experiences. It’s fun to watch them interact.☺️
It’s fun when siblings discover each other as people.
What is your favorite breakfast place?
It really is. I’m an only child so have no firsthand experience.
Marigold Kitchen, it’s just off the square.😋
No need to apologize for not caring for the classics! (I don’t get Jicky or Shalimar myself.) I fell in love with Samsara instantly, and had both the EDP and the body cream when it was new. It’s extraordinary.
Ooh, I bet the body cream was great. I remember when it first came out and one of my good friends saved for, and purchased it. I have the current version, which is not quite as extraordinary as when it came out, but still good.
I have body cream of Mitsouko, and treasure it! It’s quite old now but still smells wonderful. It’s got a peachy color and mousse-y texture.
Happy Birthday to your son! Hope your time together is most enjoyable.
Thanks! It’s a treat for me to spend it with him.😊
Was thinking of you yesterday in my 27 sprays of Tam Dao 🙂
Ha! That’s awesome. You know, if there were any perfumes that I could do 27 sprays off, Tam Dao would make the list. I find that dry sandalwood works for me in any weather.
Awww, that’s so sweet. Happy birthday to your son!
Thanks sistine!😊
Our youngest son took the oldest son (we have 3) out for sushi last night for his birthday dinner. I remember how grown up it seemed when they started organizing get-togethers for themselves. What a nice feeling and happy birthday to your son.
Happy Birthday to your son!
Happy birthday to your son and wishing you many happy memory-making times ahead!
Aw, I got a lump in my throat reading that! Sweet.
Hiya scent twin!
My brother and I got along much better after my first year of college. Not quite sure what happened…
I enjoyed reading the Wikipedia article about Jacques Guerlain – he achieved great things in his field, but lived a private life. I’m in a couple dabs of circa 1980 Mitsouko parfum (from a 1/4 oz bottle with little more than a remnant), sweetened with a few spritzes of circa 2010 edt. I have yet to have the “ahh” moment with Mitsouko, but I enjoy it. Guerlain fan girl that I am, I don’t give up and expect it may sing-out for me some time or another.
Same here..it’s a like not a love but I have an adorable mini which I really enjoy taking photos of and posting elsewhere
Yes – the minis are very camara-friendly. I decided on mine mostly for the looks, including a nice clean label and the squareness.
Hello and TGIF!
Sotd is Shalimar Millésime Tonka. (I also wore it on my right arm and MVP on the left for comparison)
My feelings so far: Tonka is very apparent from the start, bergamot is not. Reminds me somewhat of Tonka Imperiale. Much less ambery than MVP. I would say MVP is smoother and Tonka is a touch sharper and brighter.
Verdict: I have to say MVP is my winner. This is not to say Tonka isn’t pretty, it is. I just prefer the smooth ambery vanilla richness.
No bergamot is a deal breaker for me.
Today is chilly and I finally turned on the furnace and the heated floors in the bathroom and kitchen. Of all the improvements we’ve made to our 100+ yr old house, installing heated floors was one of the best!
Today I’m in San Palo Rosa, one of the mini bottles in last years Beehive Advent calendar. The cold has sapped my roses so this fall-like rose scent seems perfect. I don’t get full points, but I’m pleased with it.
heated floor = cold weather luxury
Heated bathroom floors are the best things ever!
In floor heating sounds so luxe!
I’m in one of my HG scents, Guerlain Sous Le Vent, which was created by Jacques Guerlain and launched in 1933. It’s a fragrance that I just don’t see out there anywhere, ever, and it looks like it never had any flankers and was never reformulated — there’s a Terracotta flanker that has the words “sous le vent” in its name, but it seems to be a Terracotta flanker and its notes bear no relation whatever to the lovely chypre currently on my wrists. I’m sort of glad Guerlain never tried to update this — chypres are so easily ruined in reformulation.
I own a small decant of your SOTD and cherish it
I envy you your decant — my “stock” is about two drops remaining out of a one ml vial. Sigh.
Yay for a unicorn!
I’m in 3 different versions of Après L’Ondée: a vintage sample of the parfum I remembered I had from TPC, a circa 2004 EDT and a circa 2008 EDT.
The 2004 version contains heliotrope which was phased out with a 2007 reformulation (according to the generous NSTer who did extensive research and shared her knowledge and the fragrance with me) – https://raidersofthelostscent.blogspot.com/2018/01/a-letter-from-ex-guerlain-employee.html
In all of it’s beautiful iterations, it’s a fragrant Guerlain chef d’oeuvre!
Wow, triple points then! I think I have 2 but did not even find them both much less put them on.
I share my big win with the aforementioned generous NSTer 🙂
Wow, that is so interesting! Thank you (and the other NST researcher) for sharing.
Taking single points in Jicky. I do understand how people can dislike this scent, because I didn’t love it at first, but now that I like it, I always put it on and think “how could anyone not like this?!!”
I’ve avoided Mitsouko so far, but after reading all of your glowing comments, I think I’m going to have to seek out a sample.
Have a great weekend, everyone!
I did grow into Jicky but not into Mitsouko. I hope you will love it.
I found Jicky much more challenging than Mitsouko. But I also love oakmoss in perfumes.
Happy Friday!
SOTD!
Mitsouko, from an early eighties bottle!Triple-quadruple points as I think I did pretty well with different Guerlain noses as well this week!It was fun to re-visit my Guerlain stash,it has been somewhat neglegted.
I totally agree that this is a cooler-weather scent, but she played nicely with peaches and all in the heat.Great stuff.
Tomorrow I’m off to my gilding class and I cannot wait!A colleague is joining in on the fun.
Be well all!
XO’s
Just for fun:Top 5 Guerlain perfumes in my stash:
1.)Iris Ganache(original release)
2.)Aqua Allegoria Pamplelune
3.)Jicky
4.)L’Heure Bleue
5.)Idylle
✌🏻
Interesting – glad you shared. Idylle is a favorite, but if I really tried to pick a top five, they’d be:
1. Samsara
2. Mahora
3. Iris Torrefie
4. Shalimar
5. Insolence, Champs Elysee, and Jardins de Bagatelle 😉
Ha!Awesome list,esp nr 5!✌🏻
Interesting, indeed — nice to see Pamplelune there!
I want you to know I tried to do a top 5 in my stash, totally reordered it twice then gave up 🙂
Cruel Gardenia sample from recent swap meet. Gorgeous!
We are having perfect weather — cool mornings (sometimes foggy) and evenings, 70 degree blue sky days. BUT I can’t fully enjoy it. We’ve got at least one forest fire that they’ve said won’t get better until we get rain and until then we have smoke. Ugh. So once our rain and gray start (and won’t really stop until next May), THEN things will get better.
Anyway, don’t mind me. I have a headache and I’m still coughing so just grumpy.
That sounds dreadful. I hope you get rain soon!
Ugh, that’s quite the catch 22.
I have the day off and thus can wear all the Shalimar I want! I went with edt from the 60s, some body powder beads that are so old they hardly smell anymore, and a few dabs of parfum from the 80s. It all makes my endless laundry and cleaning much nicer.
I think this is the weekend that the furnace gets turned on, it’s only 42F with a stiff northwest wind.
Wow, if it is 42 and you have not yet turned on the heat, I salute you ringthing! Or you have a house that is much better insulated than mine.
Wind always makes lower temps feel worse, especially if doors and windows are drafty.
Not that many years ago I tried both the EDP and the extrait in a Guerlain boutique and I didn’t like either of them nearly as much as my EDT, partly because mine is late-nineties and throbbing with oakmoss, and partly because I like the barely restrained viciousness that is missing from the other two, more refined versions.
They’re worth trying, especially if you can find something reasonably vintage, but as far as I’m concerned, the EDT is the only way to go, and it’s rare for me to say that, because I almost always prefer an extrait to anything else.
Dang that was supposed to be a reply to PriscillaE up there.
Claiming ALL the points this week! SOTD is Eau de Fleurs de Cedrat by Jacques Guerlain. One of my favorite summery Guerlains: lemon, cedar, and a hint of Guerlainade. Doesn’t last long but that’s OK, I’m in no danger of running out of perfume here, lol.
You smell wonderful! Mr. allo confiscated Cedrat from me shortly after I got the bottle but I don’t mind smelling it on him.
I love that one too. You smell amazing.
That’s my favorite Guerlain cologne.
Wearing L’Initial and smelling amazing.🥰
Yay for smelling amazing!
No points at all – I’m in De los Santos from byredo.
My maternal grandparents were both Guerlain fans – grandpa wore Jicky and granny wore Shalimar. I have no idea how they became so sophisticated living on the Canadian prairies, but they sure smelled wonderful!
What a wonderful scented memory!
My mother wore Shalimar in Saskatchewan. 🙂
It’s funny, I woke up today thinking of Héritage, a fall favorite, and spritzed some on before seeing this post. Partial credit! I like Héritage when I want to smell masculine but not chest-beatingly obvious about it. It’s not loaded with the nuclear amber musks that rear their ugly heads every time I browse at Sephora, and it has that indefinable Guerlain elegance that keeps it a cut above (an attenuated version of the Guerlinade is floating around in the base, I’m sure of it).
nuclear amber musk = punch in the nose perfume
Wearing Angelique Noire, since I remembered yesterday that I have it. Travalos are nice, but the lack of a label makes this decant not stand out.
And now you smell wonderful!
Thanks! And if you were the one wearing it yesterday, I also say thanks
I did wear it yesterday and enjoyed it.
I’m in another Jacques Guerlain masterpiece, Vol de Nuit. I’m wearing the extra it from around 2004, and it’s marvelous. I’m so thankful to a wonderful NSTer for selling me a larger decant of it (my inquiry) after we’d swapped years back and she’d included a sample for me. It’ll last meet forever probably because of its potency.
I’m also taking the quintuple points for wearing a different Guerlain and perfumer every day this week. It’s been a great smelling week!
Now I will start trying to figure out what indie and niche I have that have launched since 2019 for next week’s CP. So far I’ve just thought of my sample of Thomas de Monaco Raw Gold. Help me please. What other indie or niche brands were launched since 2019? Are we counting a relaunch? Apoteker Tepe was relaunched just this year.
Jorum Studio launched IN 2019, and so did Scent Trunk. I’ll have to think about this!
Ooh great suggestions! I have some from each of those brands.
Well luckily the “launched after 2019” bit is only for extra points, haha!
I know I know,we take our community projects very seriously!
I guess L’Artisan and Uncle Serge is banned though.😱🤭🤣🤣
Hahaha, I almost always go for the extra credit!
Chris Rusak has a bunch as does Chronotope among others. I have enough Jorum for a whole week but I want to wear different lines.
I somehow missed this comment notification last night, so thanks. Looks like Chris Rusak started releasing perfumes in 2018, but I think that’s close enough to count. Unfortunately, I haven’t tried any Chronotope. Do you have any favorites?
I’m joining the Mitsouko family today! Extra points to the NSTer who shared this with me. I can’t believe I was intimidated to try this scent for so long, I love it.
It’s a decent sized family 🙂
Hello friends, I am CP-noncompliant today in (you guessed it) Kulfi. I started unpacking my perfumes yesterday, and organizing them into the convenient drawers in the closet. I think I’ve decided on a system, but we’ll see. Anyway, I think I’ll have full access to my perfumes by the end of the weekend! Thank goodness, because I’m getting pretty low on my Kulfi sample. (Don’t worry, I have a full bottle of it somewhere.)
I am just about out of my Aesop face wash, and I am wondering what I should use next. Any recommendations? I would really like it to have a pump. I think I have combination skin? I’m looking for something pretty mild (not drying, not too oily), and let’s pretend I’m price insensitive.
This is so not an exciting face wash choice, but it’s so reliable for me. My skin is combination that’s more prone to dryness than oiliness for what it’s worth. I’ve been exclusively using Clinique’s Liquid Facial Soap Mild Dry Combination for a couple years now and love it. They recently changed bottles so it appears you have to buy the largest size to get a pump now.
Thank you anyway! Reliable is good. I will update you if I get this 🙂
https://www.trilogyproducts.com/collections/cleansers
If you like Aesop you might also like Trilogy. The line is centred around rosehip oil and is gentle. Comes in 200ml pump. The rosehip facial oil and moisturisers are good too.
Oh how lovely, thanks for introducing me to this. Can you comment on cream vs gel, if you have tried both?
I have dry skin so use the cream but if you like a more ‘ clean’ feeling I would try the gel. From memory it is not massively foamy and doesn’t strip the skin. Another favourite brand is Antipodes if you can get it. The Trilogy shampoo has almost no foam which takes some getting used to. The trilogy balm is great for dry patches ( a bit like Elizabeth Arden 8 hour but a bit more solid). I like the trilogy ultra hydrating moisturiser ( blue tube) a lot.
https://antipodesnature.com/
Also pump
Antipodes gospel vitamin c cleanser is good
Lovely, thank you for the recommendations!
I have combination skin as well so instead of looking for the perfect product, I have been switching off between the Estée Lauder Perfectly Clean for drier skin and the one for oilier skin. I use the oilier skin one on days I wear make-up (really just foundation) which is 3x per week and I use the other one 2-4x.
Thanks! I will see if I can find a pump version of one or both of those 🙂
Eek, I forgot the pump part. I have never seen a pump version of these.
I really like the Youth to the People Supergreens Cleanser with spinach and kale. And a pump!
I have been using Fresh’s Soy pH Balanced Hydrating Face Wash for a couple of years now. Despite the “Hydrating” in its name, I find it works great for my combination skin.
No pump for this, though. It’s in an easy to dispense squeeze tube.
It comes in a pump bottle now! Got it at Nordies.
I’m wearing L’Heure Bleue extrait, my favorite Guerlain. I bought my first purse spray, in that small blue and white patterned case, in my twenties. I don’t know how many times I’ve repurchased this scent, but now that I have so many other perfumes I think I have enough L’HB to last me.
Twins.
Love the header photo!
I’m in Shalimar edp, just a dab because a dab’ll do ya! I have always liked this one but she’s a little busty up front, with a huge personality to match. 😅
Got my flu and second shingrix yesterday and woke a bit stiff and achy but hoping a couple Motrin will fix me up.
I’ve been stalking Trader Joe’s for the past week trying to get more of their pumpkin cream cheese, arriving first thing every morning after work but can never find it. Finally broke down and asked an associate who said, “The season is over! We won’t be getting more…” Huh? The season is OVER?! Mein Gott! How?! Why?!😭
Also, for those still interested in Shalimar MVT, I spoke with the associate at the Bellagio yesterday. My name has been on their list since the beginning. He said they got in about 20 bottles and they were immediately claimed by people at the top of the list. They are expecting 50 more bottles and I’ve now moved up to number 17, so we shall see. He said there are at least 70 on the list, but if you’re really hankering for a bottle, it might be worthwhile to get on the list anyway as I’m sure some of the 70 have already purchased a bottle elsewhere…Every time I call that store I have most wonderful experience with very nice, helpful employees. I wish I could nominate the entire store for some kind of award.
I will second your nomination! I visited the boutique for the first time last week, and they couldn’t have been nicer. I bought three bottles of EDT, and the lovely sales associate who shipped them to my home included a dozen samples from the collection L’Art et La Matière.
Got my third booster and my annual flu shot this week, so I feel ready for fall and winter. Only a slightly achy arm the day after.
Oh, so jelly of your visit! Which EDT’s did you get?
Après L’Ondée, L’Heure Bleue, and Vol de Nuit. You can see a photo of my precioussses here: https://scentsandsensibilities.co/2022/10/07/perfume-chat-room-october-7/. I’m so happy!
What a lovely haul! 🥰
If I ever get back to Las Vegas, I will make sure to visit that Guerlain boutique!
I chose AA Rosa Magnifica this morning, I learned by reading Mathilde Laurent that it’s a lighter version of Nahema, probably my favorite AA.
Tonight it’s the vintage extrait of l’Heure Bleue which I started wearing when I was eighteen.
Your perfume choices at 18 were much more elegant than mine were, LOL! But I am not embarrassed to say that I was wearing Love’s Baby Soft back then.
There was only ever Shalimar around here. Eventually we got Samsara. I never even heard of LB until I came to NST.
I wore Ysatis when I was 18.
Wearing Parure today in honor of Jacques Guerlain! Also claiming CP points for the package that came today for me from the boutique in Las Vegas, with Après L’Ondée, L’Heure Bleue, and Vol de Nuit. And earlier this week, I wore Chamade.
Weather is perfect today, so I’ve gone on two long walks. Now I need a nap!
Excellent haul!!🥳🥳
You can see a photo, with all the samples that were generously included, here: https://scentsandsensibilities.co/2022/10/07/perfume-chat-room-october-7/. I’m a happy camper!
Exciting!
I bought those too, but in edp. Love the new Légendaires bottles! You smell wonderful. My bottle of Parure ran out years ago.
My SOTD for today’s cp is Mitsuoko edp; why don’t I wear this one more often? I love it! I love its scent notes of peach and especially oak-moss and, I must say, I’m smellin’ good!❤️
We’ve been more fortunate than most of you and have had warm, sunny weather most of the week. Today it’s sharply colder and we may get frost tonight, but the sky’s pretty blue and there’s 🌞 amidst the clouds and with all our trees changing colors; it’s been quite a nice fall day. We just got back from the fall bulb sale at the Chicago Botanic Garden, over 200 varieties to choose from, and we got a bunch! It always uplifts my spirits for a visit there, and it sure did today.
We’re hoping to make one last mini-camping trip to our favorite state park in the unglaciated ‘driftless’ area next week for some relaxation and beautiful fall color. But, first, our hope for this weekend is that we can catch the beautiful blue parakeet that’s been visiting our bird feeders and find him a real home before the cold weather finishes him. He looks healthy and strong and fearless, and I’m guessing he’s been out quite awhile since he appears to be very comfortable with a group of sparrows who visit. I’ve already spent much time doing research on this, posting on social media to 19 communities to find whoever lost him with no response and seeking advice from a bird hospital and a caged bird society. Got a few tips on how to catch him but it won’t be easy, wish me luck, please! We named him Pretty Boy after all the blue parakeets I grew up with as a child, and each time I see him I’m happy yet sad because I know he won’t survive the cold that’s sure to come soon.
Wishing everyone a lovely weekend ahead!
Oh dear! I truly hope you find a way to catch and re-home Pretty Boy. Thank you for trying.
I used to love to select and plant bulbs when I lived in the north. What did you buy?
Too many to mention, but a number for my white garden, most of which are fragrant and pollinator friendly and wildlife resistant, special varieties of Scilla, grape hyacinth, narcissus, hyacinth – all white – and a beautiful white tulip called ‘Catherina.’ What I’m really excited about is a tall white wild hyacinth called ‘Sacajawea’ – 20-30” – to plant beside our little waterfall.
Ooh, those sound gorgeous! I love spring bulbs. Have just bought some “Rijnveld’s Early Sensation.” That white hyacinth sounds lovely, I’ll have to look it up!
My white garden is just outside our screened porch. I have lots of the old-fashioned white Nicotiana that bloom at night and smell heavenly, so I was looking to add a few more fragrant white blooms to add to that space for daytime beauty and fragrance. The white wild hyacinth is a Camassia leichtlinii ‘Sacajawea.’ Ivory-white starry flowers with green centers, yellow margins on strap like foliage. Blooms May-June, 20-30” tall.
I’ve just looked it up, and the photos I found showed variegated leaves — beautiful!
Oh, super good luck catching Pretty Boy! It’s for his/her own good!
I had a couple of parakeets with that name when I was a kid. My Mom named those. When it was my turn, that parakeet was named “Jaws”.
I was never allowed to have any dogs or cats growing up; we lived on the second floor of a Chicago ‘two-flat’ and my parents feared they’d upset the landlords downstairs. Instead I had a succession of parakeets, all the blue ones were named Pretty Boy and all the green ones were Tuffy. Yet I have no idea whether any were male or female! 😹
Good luck! I had a blue parakeet when I was a child.
Just a note to report that we had a min-NST sniffa outing today here in Houston! Nancyleandros, Coumarin, and I met up for a long leisurely brunch and then visited our favorite local niche perfume store and shopped until we (or at least I) dropped! Some purchases were made, one sales associate was extremely patient with us, about 200 test strips were used, numerous laughs were had, and a very high number of both astute and silly perfume comments and analyses were enunciated! It is truly so fun to meet up in person with people who “get it”! Thank you Robin for bringing us together. I’ll post some pictures on Instagram soon.
Sounds like a whole lotta perfume fun!
How fun! What’s your favorite niche perfume store? We have family in Houston and a visit in the future could happen!
Kuhl-Linscomb, on Alabama near the big Whole Foods store on Kirby.
Sounds fabulous!
Oh how awesome!!
What fun, that makes me so happy!
Nice! I have had my share of meetups!
Yay! Sounds like a great time.
We had not seen each other since the week before the Covid-19 shutdown. It was perfectly lovely and very much worth the wait! 😊
I’m commenting later than usual this morning, I had a problem with the Google password manager. My beloved helped with that, so I’m currently at my hair appointment wafting Bois d’Armenie.
It’s in that stupid bottle with the bulb atomiser, it’s hard to use, and even harder to get some into a travel spray!
But you do smell great 🙂
One of my favourites, you smell great .
You smell fantastic.
Such a gorgeous fall day here! I took full advantage by going for a very long walk this afternoon. I am sore now in a few spots, but it was worth it! 🍂🍁🌈🌞🌞🌞
Heads up to the NSTers who send packages via USPS. They are collecting more information now. The person at the counter had me verifying not only the sender’s name and address, but my own. Seems that this started today. Has anyone else had the same experience?
SOTD = back in Samsara EdT. Oh, this smells so good! Even after a sweaty workout.
They just tried to implement this at our PO this morning. The line was out the door, it was taking so long to fill in all the info. By noon they had disabled that feature because it was too cumbersome. My favorite postal employee said she hopes they keep it turned off, can you imagine the disaster that would be for the holidays??
There was quite the line at my Post Office this afternoon too. But I overheard a couple of people talking, and they said it was just as bad last Friday. Sounds like persistent staffing issues.
And yeah, it would be a complete Dumpster Fire for the holiday season!
It’s a beautiful day indeed. I will be dropping off a prepaid package tomorrow at the USPS … I wonder what will happen? I did not even know about the new procedures. It’s another one of the cockamamie hare-brained schemes that will impact Joe and Jane Q public for no discernible value. Are they trying to determine how often people mail packages and for what end purpose?
Maybe USPS is trying to catch us perfumistas?
I mailed something last week and didn’t encounter this. I wasn’t asked to verify anything.
The person at the counter said that it was just implemented today where I am at. She was less than enthusiastic about it…
SOTD = Shalimar Millesime Tonka
Woohoo! Place me squarely in the camp of love! I really should do a proper wearing with my 8 sprays but because NYC, I had to dial back.

Something wonderful happened to me this morning – a perfect stranger paid for my Starbucks breakfast! She was ahead of me and was taking a longer time than expected to finish her transaction. I’m pretty sure I had a neutral face on but she just said I’ll pay for whatever she’s having! I will pay it forward at some point!
Not to look fortune in the mouth, I bought MegaMillions lottery tickets 🤣. Wish me luck!
I love stories like this!
It definitely made my day!
Oh what a nice story!
Good luck with the ticket!
Is that a new owl?
Actually, it was from 2019 when I made my fall wreath which I will hang again this weekend. I don’t think I’ve ever pictured it though so you are seeing it for the first time!
And I just realized that the color of the button eyes and the belly button (pun not intended but here we are) match the juice.
Do owls have belly buttons? 🤔
The owl and your new perfume acquisition match perfectly.
In Shalimar parfum tonight (with 2 light sprays of Gourmand Couquin), while tuning into All The President’s Men on TCM. Two of my favorite things. That story, and that perfume! Have a good weekend everyone!
Have a good weekend too!
I participated today with Shalimar eau de Cologne.
I was able to see some sun today but it was very chilly. We are expecting a freeze tonight with a low in the 30s.
Keep warm lillyjo!
It sure is getting cool! Yesterday there was a stinkbug that got inside the house, somehow wedged its way in through the screen. When the bugs are coming in, the windows need to stay closed at night!
And todaybwe had a praying mantis on the garage wall outside; I’ve never seen one here before. Better not see that one inside!
I’m getting a cold front later on tonight. Supposed to join you in the chill tomorrow.
Some places in the Poconos could possibly drop into the 30’s for lows over the weekend. 🥶
I went looking for my Après l’Ondée decant this morning, which I’d been saving for today, and discovered that I also have an Irish Ganache decant! (I mean, I haven’t had it for very long — but perhaps the size of my stash is getting beyond me.) Ended up with IG on one arm and AlO on the other. Twelve hours later, IG is still quite pronounced and AlO is a fading dream.
Mr. Skal made Pumpkin Stuffed with Everything Good for our dinner and I made baked apple code donuts (again), so we’ve been channeling fall today. it’s been a busy week, and I am off to sleep, but once again I’ve learned so much from the CP — both from my own choices and observations and from what everyone else has posted.
Do tell more about that Stuffed Pumpkin!
Here’s a link — a friend served this to us a dinner party about six or seven years ago, so it can be both fancy and homey. We used a 2.5-lb Sugar Pie pumpkin last night, toasted baguette instead of stale bread, and dried herbs because there were no fresh to be had. I think it is a very forgiving recipe — stuff it with whatever YOU define as “everything good,” as long as there is something to absorb the liquids and something to add some creaminess.

Adding to the folks who wore Mitsouko. I have the edt version. I don’t wear it much but noticed that I’ve gone through about 1/2 of a 30 ml bottle.
Happy Friday evening everyone!
