It's Tuesday and National Taco Day, plus National Cinnamon Roll Day and World Animal Day. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Guerlain Cologne du 68, developed by perfumer Sophie Labbé. Tea at the moment is a cup of (green) oolong, from a mix of various leftovers, all from Taiwan.
Reminder: on 10/7, for Jacques Guerlain's birthday, wear a Guerlain fragrance if you have one. Extra points if it was created by Jacques Guerlain, quintuple bonus points for wearing a week of Guerlain representing five different Guerlain perfumers. Adapted from a suggestion by Oakland Fresca.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the Guy Degrenne Salam teapot, in porcelain with felt-lined stainless steel cover, is available in a variety of sizes and models. Shown are 2 from the Monochrome collection; €109 for the 4 cup pot and €119 for the 6 cup. (In the US, you can find the brand at Food52 and Williams Sonoma, among others.)
Happy Tuesday!
It’s a scorcher of a week…today is 34° celcius.
Got home early today so yay for that!(I left at 2pm)
SOTD!
Apres L’Ondee edt, double points for this beautiful scent.I hope it summons the rains as well.
Lillyjo,I became a serious collector around 2010,but have been fortunate to find shops in S-Africa that sells wonderful vintage things! Not many serious perfumistas around here so the bounty is sometimes epic.
XO’s!✌🏻🌹🤗
In other news, finally a shop that sells the beautiful limited edition engraved Serge Lutens bottles and Bell Jars in SA!
I’ll update with purchases as soon as they happen.🤫😉
Oh awesome! Montréal is getting the bell jars this month too, first time in Canada.
Yay!
I already have a wishlist!Lol.
And which ones are on it?
I have to assume they’ll be at Ogilvy. Do you know which ones they’re getting? Because I am going to Montréal at the end of the month….
Yes, HR Ogilvy (they merged). I assume they will get the whole range but I don’t know. Danielle the SL SA would know.
I saw them at Holt’s website. How exciting!
Yay for vintage purchases!
Indeed! And mostly in what seems to be pristine condition,or I have just been lucky.
Good morning.
Sotd is Spiriteuse Double Vanille.
Initially planned to wear something else but woke up wanting something gourmand.
Currently drinking matcha latte.
OH, you are making me want to change my plan for the week so I can wear it too. Hmmm.
Guerlain stable, day two: the rapturous Samsara, by Jean-Paul Guerlain and Gérard Anthony. It will not feel out of place on this cold autumnal morning, with the leaves just starting to take on their fall colour.
Twins!
“Rapturous” sounds divine. I will try to sniff it the next time I am in A Real City.
Le Bouquet de la Mariée for me today. Back on track with yoga classes, I am sooo out of shape, stiff and sore!
Bell Jar wishlist:
Fumerie Turque
Bois Oriental
Bois et muscs
Iris Silver Mist!
🤫😉
Ooh, love all of those!
Cannot wait!I already have Fumerie Turque(export bottles of old) and ISM(the black travel atomizer sets),but I need them in bell jars!😱😱
Fumerie Turque is just beautiful. I bought the bell jar at the Palais Royale in Paris over a decade ago and am so happy to have it.
It’s a beautiful scent!
But you are back; that is often the hardest step.
Yes indeed. I tell myself it’s going to hurt for a few months, but it will feel so good when I recover my strength.
I registered for yoga classes tomorrow, Friday, Saturday … when I was away from home, I realized I desperately needed it to help me get outside of my head. (Or maybe to access a different part of my brain?) So excited to be going back into a studio!
Same! I’m in a sad/anxious rut that I’m determined to get out of.
So happy to read about folks doing yoga! Yoga and walking are my sanity.
In Guerlain Nahema EdP.
Day 5 of nonstop rain, wind and cold temperatures. This weather is taking a toll on me already and I am feeling depressed.
On my second cup of coffee and a pumpkin croissant from my local bakery. Very tasty!
Happy Tuesday! ☕️🥐
Sorry for your crappy weather, but you do smell fabulous!🤗🌹✌🏻
Thank you, J B! You also smell terrific in Apres L’Ondee, one of my favorite Guerlain! ❤
Wow, isn’t it a bit early for that bad of weather? Bon courage!
It is! The cold front since Friday that brought rain and lower temps, welcomed, before leaving, the remnants of Ian. We won’t have a break until Thursday.
Today is the first day I’ve seen the sun since Thursday. I’ll tell it to stop by and say hello to you!
Thank you, Sistine! That’s so sweet of you! 🌞😊
SERIOUS chilly rain doldrums here too.
VERY SERIOUS! 😫
I hope we het a good soaking because we need it! I resisted from turning on the heat but I did it … at least it October. I do seem to recall that late September it usually got quite chilly at night bit these days, we can’t know for sure. The leaves are still very green.
The leaves are also very green here. Not a single one has fallen from the trees because of the change of season. Hopefully, soon!
Hope you get some sun. I am looking out of my window at snow so I can relate about the weather.
Thank you, Kanuka. It looks like we will get some sun on Thursday. I hope you get nice, warmer temperatures very soon!
You smell as wonderful as our weather is yucky!
Thank you, Jalapeno! 🌞
I am also in Samsara, which as Pyramus has noted works for autumn. It certainly works as a transitional fragrance in Texas, where next week we will be back in 90+ degree days.
I might need a quick trip to Texas, sigh.
We’d be delighted to take you perfume shopping in Houston!
🙂
I am going for broke in L’Heure Bleue. Or at least, I thought I’d be going for broke (three healthy sprays of the EDP). Instead, today it is a complex but well-behaved skin scent on me.
You smell wonderful. LHB will definitely get worn this week.
Guerlain Idylle and a cup of English Breakfast tea.
You smell great Barqs, I do like that one!
I love it too – the ship almost sailed but I got a lovely 35 ml OG bottle from FragranceNet – perfect size!
Today I’m wearing Beige. It’s whatever concentration the exclusifs were before the big change, maybe around 2016 (and panic – that was the first perfumista freak out I’d witnessed). It’s very much a scent I associate with dressing up and nights out. However, life currently isn’t giving me many opportunities to go to parties or be fancy, so today it’s paired with a hoodie and jeans.
I hope everyone has a great day.
I hope you have a happy day too. Beige and jeans sounds good to me.
RIP Loretta Lynn.
https://www.nytimes.com/2022/10/04/arts/music/loretta-lynn-dead.html
For the first time in ages, I actually forgot to wear perfume!!!
I had planned to finish my sample of Mon Guerlain (a teenager-approved scent that wouldn’t wrinkle my students’ noses), but I think I’ll join some of you in a cloud of Samsara when I get home.
Aw, drat, I posted In the wrong place!
I saw that right before I came here. Time to watch Coal Miner’s Daughter again.
I heard it on the radio…they did a stretch of LL songs earlier and they’re playing Van Lear Rose right this minute.
Oh that is sad. Coal Miner’s Daughter is one of my top ten movies ever – lots of credit to Sissy Spacek in that of course (but her other movies don’t appeal; I only saw Carrie). Ms. Lynn’s life story, both actual and dramatized, fascinates me.
I teared up a bit hearing about Loretta Lynn. A lot of her music was in the background of my childhood and teen years.
Yes, ditto. Especially hard to hear about the loss of those I grew up with (like Olivia Newton-John, and now Loretta, etc.)
Oh, so sad to hear about Loretta Lynn!
Twins with Robin in Cologne du 68 today, which was near the top of the sample heap that I intend to sort out in the next couple of days.
Hey twin!
I am sorry too, I always liked her voice.
I’m in Guerlain Tonka Imperiale, which is lovely but is little more than a skin scent on me. There’s no way I’d pay those prices, so I’ll enjoy my sample while it lasts.
I got an email from Chanel today about their spring- summer 2023 ready to wear show. I love it, let’s skip winter and go right to spring. Lol😆
I think I never even tried it, so maybe just as well.
With you on skipping winter!
I’m in Spiritueuse Double Vanille this morning. Luckily, no evaporation from this manufacturer spray sample!
Things I learned from fellow travelers this week:
1) Trader Joe’s Jerked Plantain Chips are the bomb!
2) Rent on an apartment, without air conditioning, is $3500 month. Simple 2 bed room, nothing fancy. And no A/C!
3) The hospital I’m currently at is in the Top 50 Hospitals in the Nation, if you can believe such stuff…
4) So many female travelers I meet have significant others who do not work. And they push the travelers, who are clearly exhausted, to work overtime…
Other things:
5) We have a bunch of “helpers” as we transition to a completely new OS, but they must have hired the Blue Light Special ones because they know absolutely nothing about what we have to document, or how to get to those documentation areas within the system.
6) The portable phones we all carry to communicate with other members of the care team used to be grab and go. Now, every time we use the phone, we have “badge” in to use it. Guess whose badge doesn’t work?
7) It took me 2 text messages via the MAR and a phone call to order pain meds for a patient. Then, it took and hour to be sent.
I swear, if technology gets any more inefficient, people will be unable to leave their beds in the morning because life has become such an unending, unnecessary chore.
I, however, will continue to smell fabulous thanks the Guerlain!
3. I hope the rating of the hospital transfers benefits to you, and the other nurses employed there.
4. Sounds kinda sad about the unemployed partners – hope at least some of them are doing everything else the travelers need!
1. Plantain chip lemming activated!
Gosh that’s terrible about the bad technology problems. If I were the patient awaiting my pain medicine I’d be plenty steamed!
Technology can be such an epic PITA!
#3 – I don’t trust these rankings unless the pollster explains his/methods clearly. At least for rankings of exchange-traded companies, the one that frequently advertises gets a leg up.
#5 – I have the same complaint about our trainers too!
Wearing vintage Shalimar today but I’m not sure what vintage. I think, if I stick with it, that I can do different iterations of Shalimar for the rest of the week. Problem is that when I open my cabinet, so many other perfumes clamor for attention!
Ditto!
In L’Heure Bleu today and Samsara yesterday. I think I will do Guerlain all week, I certainly have enough of it.
Yup,it’ll be a Guerlain week for me as well!
Wearing Zagorsk today because I was craving incense. Was kind of surprised with Loretta Lynn, thought she passed years ago.
I always put Loretta and Dolly Parton together in my head but Dolly is years younger.
You smell great in Zagorsk!
Loretta Lynn and Dolly Parton were contemporaries back in the 1960’s and 1970’s, though.
SOTD for Guerlain is Angelique Noire. It’s a tad sweet for me but I do like it. It doesn’t have any depth but it’s a nice basic.
I love this one.
Commando so far, but sampled Après L’Ondee yesterday afternoon. It’s another Guerlain that I want to love, but just don’t really. I’m saving my few drops of Sous Le Vent for Friday, and not sure what I’ll go with today — maybe Rose Barbare.
Sampling the current reissue of Eau Noire today and getting herbal, licorice tea w/ some woods. Borders on gourmand…nice work by Kurkdjian.
I’ve been curious about the reissue. I really liked the first one but never pulled the trigger. Thx for the info.
Sotm is Chamade – more aptly named Sotem (scent of the early morning) because it’s so fleeting. Brief but beautiful.
You smell like me😃 but what concentration? I’m wearing vintage extrait and it is very long-lasting.
EDT which surprisingly has some oomf. I can only imagine the beauty of vintage extrait 🙂
Cinnamon roll day?! I’m a big baker, but that one is not happening today. I got very sick this weekend (covid test negative – so far) and have been in bed for two days straight. Mr. SP has been taking good care of me. I feel a bit better this morning and in a short-lived burst of energy, finally took a shower and washed the bedsheets and clothes I’d been wearing non-stop.
I had big plans for the Guerlain-fest this week – hoping I can join in tomorrow. The best I could manage after my shower this morning was a little bit of Costes body milk. Back to lying down now, but I’ve moved to the sofa at least with a stack of books. You are all smelling wonderful.
Sorry you’re feeling ill. I sometimes read Reddit and I was fascinated by someone making cinnamon roll waffles! I may try it as I have brand new mini waffle-maker (unopened for the past 18 months…) that I may use for this experiment.
Don’t bother. I tried the experiment, and it was a HUGE fail! The cinnamon rolls were barely edible. 😖
Oy! Thanks for the warning. Money and equipment saved!
I think cinnamon roll french toast would work better.
Ooh, maybe. Back to potentially using it for something.
Or you could try using Peppridge Farms’s cinnamon toast bread in the waffle iron.
It’s a thought for sure!
Thanks, hajusuuri. The waffle maker does some fun stuff, not sure about these, though.
I will experiment without jeopardizing the waffle maker. If I mess up, it was a small miss.
Oh no,hang in there and I hope you feel better soon!
Sending huuugs!!
✌🏻🤗🤗🌹
Thanks, JB!
Sorry you’ve been so sick! Hope you feel better soon. The sofa and stack of books sounds like a great idea.
Thanks, Ringthing. I’m *almost* enjoying the sofa/books part.
Sorry to hear that you’ve been under the weather lately.
Thanks, Jalapeno. Advil is my friend.
Ooooooof. Rough haul for sure!
Hope you feel better soon!
Thanks, Sapphire.
Feel better soon! Sending healing vibes!
Thanks, PL67!
Get well soon, you can double up on the Guerlains tomorrow!
Doubling up tomorrow – excellent idea. 😀
So sorry springpansy, and so glad to hear Mr. SP is taking good care of you!
Thanks, Robin!
In Samsara edt, 2000 vintage. I suggest fans just keep an eye out on Ebay – well preserved spray bottles of modest price turn up here and there. I’ve yet to try the parfum, though I recently got a mini I’m saving. The edt is my favorite version, followed by Samsara Shine, the edp, and then Un Air d’Samsara.
Surprised that there are some reasonable bottles of Samsara on EvilBay. Last time I checked they were going for an arm and a leg.
We are on the same wavelength today, Robin. I also went with Cologne du 68 and feel it’s kind of a wildcard since it’s the only Guerlain perfume in Sophie Labbe’s credits. And I’m so happy I picked it because I love it so much and can’t stop sniffing myself.
It is one of a few that I really fell for *after* I reviewed it. Very glad I bought the bottle and then didn’t swap it away.
Guerlain Shanghai for me this morning
More points 🙂
Yesterday I wore Vega EDT, created by Jacques himself in 1936. It’s usually said to be a kind of knock-off of Chanel No. 5. It does smell a lot like it going on, but I found it just prettier in the later phases, a beautiful floral mix. I love the Art Deco bottle design. But if you have a bottle with a glass stopper, do you like applying the perfume using that stopper? I’m not sure about it. It seems that spraying ensures more projection. On the other hand, the longevity of this scent on my skin was excellent. I could still smell it when I got into bed at night.
Today I’m planning to wear Mayotte, from the bee bottle, designed by Jean-Paul Guerlain, according to Fragrantica. It’s got to be around 15 years old. I haven’t showered yet–taking it slow with a runny nose, either allergies or a bit of a cold. I’ll have to post my experience of it later.
I don’t wear any of the Guerlains often. It’s good to have a reason to get them out this week!
I hope it’s just a sniffle and you feel better soon.
Thank you–and I’m sorry about your snow!
I am curious to know what other Guerlain you have! That one sounds like a treasure.
Feel better.
I have the sniffles too and the rain and cold is not helping.
I’m surprised by looking around to realize I think I have eight of them! I’ve got enough to do more than an entire week! This morning I gathered my bottles together and now I want to take a picture of them, but haven’t decided yet how or where.
Hope your sniffles get better. At least we have sunshine here. However I might have allergies because there’s so much mold and pollen outside now.
Hope that you are feeling better soon.
In Vetiver Pour Elle, as it is almost as warm as summer.
I mean to wear Vetiver this week, but we’ll see if I fit it in…
Snow all around the hills this morning and it’s meant to get colder over the next two days. It’s all a bit drab and gloomy so I’m wearing By the Fireplace and lounging in bed while I wait for the sun to rise.
https://www.wallpaper.com/beauty-grooming/inside-serge-lutens-stange-secretive-world
A piece about Serge Lutens from Wallpaper magazine.
So strange to think we’re in the same southern hemisphere,we’re basically being cooked alive and you have snow on the hills!!
It peaked at 34° today, and it’s only October!
Shalimar ode a la vanille Madagascar.
I think I could do a week alone of just Shalimar and her flankers. What do you think?
I was swirling in vanilla smokey goodness this morning for volunteering.
Lots of rain..going to cuddle up with a cup of tea and watch the next episode of Empress.
Of course you can! I don’t even own any Shalimar flankers, just bottles of the edt, edp, edc and parfum (almost gone). They are all from different time periods.
I have lots of versions and flankers !
Shalimar all week
Racing by to say that I’m wearing Mitsouko today, and looking forward to reading everyone’s comments tonight.
I think Mitsouko always calls for extra points 🙂
Hey guys checkin in. Been hot here too. Went to a Roger Waters concert which was amazing. Heard some newer stuff like The Bar, which was great. It was political and some ppl in the audience got cranky about it but Roger has been political since forever, shouldn’t be shocking. But anyway, enough of that..I wore an entire sample of 1957 to the show lol. I smelled great while rocking out. I wonder what cologne he would wear? I could see him in something by Penhaligons..something English for sure. Lol. Definitely gonna have some lemonade in a bit, stay cool or warm wherever ya are:)
Ooh ooh, have you tried the Penhaligon’s Legacy of Petra?
Re: being political – my thoughts are celebrity figures should not lean one way or the other.
I haven’t smelled that one, good? Yeah, I mean that would be the ideal, regarding politics. Roger’s father died in WW2 and it really affected him. But yeah..oh when I came back from my bathrom break..they had the area by my seat blocked off..cause he was walking right by it. I gave him a quick 🤟 and he waved:). I will just say he was waving at me cause it was only like three of us in that spot haha. He played like 21 or so songs. Was pretty cool:).
I’m another Samsara wearer, the edp. From the notes I should be madly in love with it, but it has never really done anything for me. I have a mini and it will last me forever.
Dapper the cat found and played with a daddy long legs and then ate it. It put me off the idea of breakfast or lunch. It’s a coffee day!
Oh Dapper, ewww! 😀
I would have given Dapper a hug for taking care of the creepy crawler. Means that the human doesn’t have to deal with it. 😉😹
I used to try and get my cats to eat bugs. Nope. They wouldn’t do it. Lol
Teflon kitty is a World Class fly hunter. She always gets pets and words of praise when she gets them.
I’m back to report on Mayotte. God this is such a seductive scent. It definitely makes little bells go off in my head, or little hearts fly off of my lips, or something! It’s smooth and creamy and kind of over-the-top with honeyed white floral notes plus ylang-ylang. Mmmm. It’s unique, in my experience. Now it does border upon sweetness and emits an almost cotton-candy sugary odor… If you smell cotton candy at a fairground, you automatically want some, but it’s so cloying in your mouth that you can only take one bite. But here I want to keep biting, myself or my own arm, I guess! To be honest I’d be embarrassed to wear it out in public most places, as it’s just too beckoning! Come and bite me!
I love Mayotte’s sister, Mahora, which is on my wear list this week. And, I *do* eat the whole cone of cotton candy at the fair!
I liked Mayotte quite a bit, but it was a short lived lightweight on me. More for you, Calypso!
Checking in later than usual for me, I travelled back from France today. My trip was shortened by obligations but I still had over a monthe in Drôme Provençale and feel replenished and relaxed.
It’s 17C tonight, not too bad really but I’ve been spoiled with balmy temperatures during my holidays.
Chamade vintage extrait, Jean-Paul Guerlain, I love it so.
I have a sample of Chamade EdT (unknown age) that is so pretty. It makes me sigh whenever I smell it.
I’m sorry your trip was shortened Aurora. I am glad you came back refreshed though.
2nd that!
Welcome back home!
Sampling Rose Barbare for the second time today, and I don’t think it’s working for me. Oh well, can’t love them all, and there are plenty of other Guerlain roses that I adore!
Oooh, I should find my sample of that one and wear it in the near future. If I can pull myself away from the Opium, lol.
Opium is hard to pull away from:). I really like the Rose Barbare. Not discontinued, yet lol
National Taco Day you say? Well, I observed it without knowing; had a breakfast taco with egg, chicken and cheese this morning and part of an Asian pear alongside. Clippership Earl Grey Creme was my ToTM, and Cultured Cup Dark Chocolate Pu’er is my ToTA. I kinda have the munchies, so the tea is helping to keep me out of the candy stash. 😳
Oh, perfume? That would be Je Ne Sais Quoi layered over Jo Loves Green Orange & Coriander. I’m really enjoying the JNSQ. ❤️
I had soft shell tacos tonight. I didn’t know about taco day until I read your post!
Song of the Day: https://youtu.be/etCGwQoCl44
RIP Loretta Lynn.
Day 5 of the same yucky weather that Perfumelover67 has. But throw in a little afternoon fog to the mix as well. Some places near Atlantic City NJ have received between 6.5 to 7 inches of rain since Friday. Too much!
SOTD = still in Opium EdP.
Opium – 👍
I always sound optimistic when someone else is complaining. I say we give it until tomorrow and hopefully no more rain except between midnight and 5 going forward.
No fog here, but still raining…. (sigh!)
I say let’s extend this rule to include snow!
As near as I can figure, my area has gotten around 4 inches since Friday. There’s been street flooding in the usual places.
Down the Shore got hammered, though!
I didn’t know about this collaboration. Thanks 🎶
It was new to me, too! Liked it so much I figured I would share.
Guerlain adjacent again today with a spritz of PdN’s Fleur de Tiare Room Spray on the sleeve of my cardigan. It lasts fairly well on fabric and lets me pretend that we are not on day 5 of this rain.
Started the day with Earl Grey, and then moved on to the stash of CS Nutcracker Sweet in my office.
I recently had some work done at my house that required temporarily relocating my clothes, shoes, perfume, etc. I should take this as an opportunity to reorganize and pare down as I put everything away, but the (anticipated) mental effort of that has me avoiding it all together. I need to start a good audiobook and get in the zone.
Are you doing it the Marie Kondo way? I was a fail.
Ugh, home improvement/repair projects can be a pain! Hope it wasn’t anything major.
SOTD = Guerlain Shalimar Ode a La Vanille Sur La Route du Mexique
I’ve always enjoyed wearing this! Longevity was medium with 8 sprays lasting 5-6 hours. I love the interplay of incense and vanilla!
https://www.instagram.com/p/CjTuCVBO_oU/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=
I am Miss Optimistic but this cold rain is so meh. Don’t get me wrong — I don’t mind the cold at all but this all day every day dampness? Not for me. I feel like I am rotting.
This seems like an awful long time for it to stay rainy.
I keep thinking I should check for webbing between my toes at this point… 🦆
Hi everyone! I’m in Iris Torrefie from a lovely NSTer. It’s so pretty! I could easily do a week of Guerlains.
I’m starting to pack for my trip to Chile coming up, for my brother’s wedding. I’m afraid the dress I was planning to wear may be a little tight, if I can fit in it at all! The pandemic pounds are no fun. I’m going to start going back to the gym when I get back, even though I hate it. I’ll keep my eyes out for fragrance buying opportunities in Chile but I have no idea what to expect! Any recommendations from those who have been there? We’ll be in Santiago and the Valparaiso/Viña del Mar area.
I am with you on having added pounds.
Exciting about your trip. Congratulations to your brother!
Thank you! The struggle is real 😂
Congratulations to your brother, and safe travels to you!
Thank you!
Have a wonderful time, socks, and hope the wedding is perfect!
Thank you!
I hope you have a wonderful time. I don’t know about perfume buying opportunities in Chile, but it’s on my list of places I’d like to visit.
Thank you! I’ll report back when I return.
My sotd is Santal Pao Rosa. I am still not sure about this one.
I spent hours today shredding paper. I brought up a tote bag of 20 year old papers and mail that isn’t even mine. I found my voter ID card from 30 years ago. I also shredded old pictures of people I haven’t known in decades. It looks like I am going to need a bigger shredder. Lol.
Insert the “Jaws” theme here!
Ha! I was hoping someone would catch that 👍
What a good clean out! I need to do that too.
