It's Friday and Leo Tolstoy’s birthday. RIP Queen Elizabeth. Our community project for today: wear a fragrance with a hay note. If you prefer, substitute any old cereal grain, or anything that calls to mind a fall harvest (the Harvest Moon will be on Saturday). (We did a similar project in 2016.)
What fragrance did you pick? As always, do chime in with your scent of the day even if you’re not participating in the community project.
I am pretty sure I've got covid, so I will stay commando and possibly go back to bed, we'll see.
Reminder: on 9/16, wear a fragrance by Etat Libre d'Orange. Suggested by Oakland Fresca and seconded by MadtownGirl, AnnE and Kris.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Feel better Robin..
RIP to the steadfast Queen. If I knew what perfume she wore I would put it on.
Good luck to the new King.
In spirit I will pick a Jo Malone for today. I only have two so I will pick one later after I shower.
I am joining you in Jo Malone. I hear she liked L’Heure Bleue.
I wonder if her last purchase was that Klein-blue bottle from the other day. She could afford it.
And she was a fan of the Yardley and Floris brands,or so I hear.
https://www.salisburyjournal.co.uk/news/19892642.smell-like-member-royal-family-favourite-perfumes-revealed/
Harry wears Davidoff Cool Water,of course…Haha.
Zing!
Fun thank you, yes, Floris White Rose is often evoked for the Queen, I have a full vintage bottle and it’s a carnation, quite lovely.
Not surprised that Princess Margaret wore the original Oscar de la Renta.
I hope yours will be a mild and quick one Robin! Rest is the wisest thing to do!
I am wearing l’Artisan Fleur de Narcisse. The hay-leather drydown was the only ”thing” in my wardrobe that matches today’s theme. Lovely but fleeting:(
That one was so lovely!
Dang. Sorry Robin, hope you have a mild case and feel better soon!
I’m in Chergui. I know it has a hay note, but I’m not sure if I smell it. I do get lots of spices, honey, tobacco and amber. It’s perfect for a crisp, clear fall morning.
I love round hay bales like in the photo, and we pass fields of them when we take my daughter to college. It’s the most beautiful drive through what’s called the driftless area. The glacier that covered North America went around this area and it has the most beautiful rolling hills and valleys.
In perfume related news, I saw on fragrantica about the new Shalimar being released next month. Some of the comments are funny, how last year’s vanilla was here and then *poof* gone so quickly. I also got an email yesterday from Phlur and they have a new perfume called ‘Somebody Wood.’ Somebody Wood?!! Blech. I think that’s a terrible name! Who comes up with these things? Not me obviously lol. Regardless, the notes sound great: sandalwood, amber, musk, saffron. And it comes in a travel spray. Wish more perfumes did. 10-15 mls is just about perfect for me.
Literally everything should be available in a 10- or 15-mL spray. Someone needs to pass a law or something.
Ha, right!
Agreed! First, we take over the world….
yes yes yes
I got that same email from Phlur and wondered if that could really be the perfume’s name!
It’s terrible, isn’t it?
Aaand you smell fantastic! My SOTD yesterday.
Thanks! I saw that! Too busy to comment, you know how it goes… Today is my Saturday though.😀
Happy “Saturday”!🥳🥳
Scent twins! Some of the Amish in my area still harvest hay in haystacks, I love to see them.
Being an original “farmboy” now trapped in the city,I know the smell of freshly cut hay and haystacks very very well!
😉
♥️ that driftless area!
Me too! I dream of moving there.☺️
Somebody Wood? My inner 11-year-old snickered at that!
Lol, I know, right?! That was my first thought too.😂😉
Mine three! Lol
Eggplants for everyone! 🍆🍆🍆
🤣🤣🤭
Good morning.
Feel better soon Robin! Rest plenty.
Sotd is Jeux de Peau. Haven’t worn this in a long while! Forgot how much I enjoyed the wheat note in this.
Drinking orzo to match the grains theme. (Orzo is a roasted barley beverage. Caffeine free and very lovely!)
Scent twin! JdP is wonderful, isn’t it? So unexpected — unlike any scent I know of — and yet so comforting.
That Orzo sounds lovely!
Orzo sounds a bit like Barleycup in the UK or Bambu in Germany. A granules drink a lot like instant coffee to look at. Does it have chicory as well? There’s another brand here in Spain whose name escapes me, where the mix includes fig. The Other Mister Koenigsberg likes to drink that in our few weeks of cold-ish weather . 🙂
Yum I had something like this from Natural Grocers..it had chicory and barley. I think it was called, Teachino? It tastes like coffee but it’s not coffee. It was super tasty.
Try to take it easy, Robin. I am wearing Pulp, which sort of fits today’s CP. I always think it smells like an unpicked fruit orchard, with over-ripe fruit on the ground.
Fabulous choice for the day!
Pulp is great! 😋
Sending healing vibes Robin. Feel better soon!
Wearing Parfum d’Empire Corsica Furiosa for the cp. One of my big favorite summer scents.
On my third cup of coffee and a wheat toast with pumpkin cream cheese.
Have a healthy and peaceful Friday, everyone! 🌻
I am joining you with toast this morning, but mine is with hazelnut chocolate spread…
Toast twins! My bottle of Nutella is calling my name now for my toast tomorrow! 🧇🌰
yum!
PdE is one of my favorite houses. You smell great!
That pumpkin cream cheese sounds delish, almost like having pumpkin pie for breakfast. 😋
Thank you, AnnE!
I love that pumpkin cream cheese. It is not too sweet and it goes pretty well with snack you like.
Fabulous!
My other choice for today would have been Azemour, and I’m pretty sure there is some hay lurking in Equistrius as well.
🌹🤗
Thank you, J B!
You will smell terrific in any of your choices!
Mmm, pumpkin cream cheese sounds good. I will have to look for that!
It is! Very tasty!
Mmmm I made “homeade” pumpkin cream cheese a few times..which just basically is the cheese with added maple syrup, pumpkin pie spice and some sugar..I made it into a glaze and put it on banana bread. It got rave reviews at a potluck once lol.
I bought a bag of Pumpkin Spice Oreos..which I find to be kinda meh. Not gross..not fabulous. The original is probably the best..or the Double Stuff:).
Your homemade pumpkin cream cheese sounds delish! I am sure it is much tastier than the one from the deli.
I tried Pumpkin Spice Oreos last year and I didn’t like it. I only love and enjoy the original thin ones!
Yes, I am trying to make myself like them..as I have a whole bag of them. But I don’t see it happening lol. It’s definitely missing something. The carrot cake one sounds terrible lol. Hmm if I could make an Oreo flavor..what would it be? Probably a Mexican Wedding Cookie Oreo thing..it could happen. Or a ginger one..or better yet..molasses cookie oreos..mmmmm. Hire me Nabisco!
The carrot cake Oreos are super sweet. A no, no for me. A ginger Oreo would be an interesting flavor!
I should just throw out every bag of Oreos I have. I don’t buy them often but they either don’t even get opened or I have one and go – too chemical tasting, which I really think should be a reason why I shouldn’t have bought them in the first place!
Let me guess; you got your pumpkin cream cheese at Trader Joe’s? 🎃🧀
I really like the Dark Chocolate Oreos. Too bad they aren’t sold in smaller packages. Not too sweet, and with a good chocolate flavor for both cookie and filling.
I got the pumpkin cream cheese from my local bagel store.
The one from Trader Joe’s is also good, but I have not seen it in my store this year yet.
Ah! Must be nice to have excellent bagels nearby. 😉
Hi everyone, wearing California Snow by ALOF, featuring soil, chamomile and hay. It is cooler where I am so I had planned on a patchouli until I saw the theme.
Feel better Robin!
Two confessions. First, I have absolutely no idea what hay smells like: I must have smelled a hay note in a scent, but I can’t isolate and identify it, so I don’t even know what people are talking about. Second, last night I put on some Chergui as a test drive for today’s CP because I knew it was said to have hay, and I finally have to admit that I just don’t like it very much — it’s by far the least favourite of my Lutenses. The top has some jarring quality that really annoys me, and it doesn’t settle down until about an hour in, by which time it’s far too late. I need to swap my bottle with someone who loves and deserves it.
So today I’m in Jeux de Peau, which is easily one of my top five SL scents. So warm and delicious, all bakery all the time, kept from being cloying by that austere sandalwood perpetually hovering in the background.
Oh no,I’m sorry you don’t get along with Chergui,it is so pretty and interesting to me!
But I’m glad you do have an SL you adore, what are your other favorites from Uncle Serge?
Un Bois Vanille, Chypre Rouge, Miel de Bois, Fourreau Noir, Douce Amère, and Rahät Loukoum all make me unreasonably happy, and La Fille de Berlin, Ambre Sultan, Feminité du Bois, and Arabie get regular airings. Lutens is my favourite house, or at least their offerings from earlier than 2010 or so are. (And then as far as I’m concerned they kind of fell off a cliff.)
Oeeee nice selection, and we do overlap on quite a couple of them!
Iris Silver Mist will always be my favorite, followed by Rahat,Louve,Ambre Sultan and Chergui.
Rahat is so good.
My faves Lutens..A LA Nuit, Fille de Berlin, Rahat, Ences de Lavande. I could bathe in all of them:).
I also like Serge Noire LOL. Yes, it smells of potato chip grease or b.o. at the beginning then..ooh la la..really some of the best woody notes with spice..so good:).
Feel better soon Robin! I’ve got a spritz of Narcisse Taiji on my chest for the CP and Jo Malone Rose & Magnolia in honor of the Queen. An incredible life of service we will not likely see again. Much admiration for her and condolences to her family.
I echo your sentiments regarding the Queen.
Hope you’re finally getting some reprieve from the heat this weekend.
It’s verrry hot and humid, positively tropical. But it should pass and improve by Sunday.
Get well soon Robin.
I am wearing Pêche Cypree.
I am feeling under the weather too so I will rest, maybe later will go to an outdoor concert in the most beautiful library.
Feel better, Hera! And enjoy the concert later today!
Hope you feel better tomorrow!
Couldn’t get to my bottle of Chergui but with Queen Elizabeth II passing, I am in De Profundis. If anyone is on Twitter, holy crap. I knew she was 96 and was starting to have health issues, I still wasn’t expecting her to go so quick.
DeProfundis is my favorite SL.
The decline started back in October 2021, IIRC. Whatever the case, she at least lived to a ripe old age.
And had the benefit of good health for most of that time.
Oh dear, Robin, I hope you have a mild case of whatever it is and start feeling better soon.
For the CP, I chose Heeley Cuir Pleine Fleur. I’d never noticed before, but in researching hay notes I came across a post on BdJ where occasional contributor Patricia said CPF has “a hay note mixed with creamy leather, spices, and wood” and … I think she was right! Fortunately, I do not get the wet vetiver note she also mentions — on me this one stays warm and dry and lovely for several hours. Anyway, happy Friday NSTers!
Robin, I just got over covid and it was bad. Take more time than you think because it is very taxing on your body.
No perfume today mostly because I was running late but it is so hot there are very few in my collection that work in such weather here in the SF bay area.
Seconding the advise to take it slower than you think you need to. I was surprised at how powerful the exhaustion was from just sitting at my computer (in jammies) for an hour or so when I first emerged after sleeping for three days.
So many people I know are getting this latest version of COVID.
Happy Friday everyone!
Robin,I’m sorry you’re not feeling well and I hope you do feel better soon!My only “advice” to covid-patients has always been “train your nose as early and as soon as possible with familiar smells, good and bad!”
SOTD!
Santa Maria Novella Fieno, which literally means “Hay”.This is a wonderful soft and slightly powdery interpretation of hay, there is myrtle and freshly cut hay, lavender vanilla and a smidgeon of sandalwood.Gorgeous gorgeous.
XO’s!✌🏻❣️🌹
that sounds so nice, and exactly how I thought yesterday’s Sud de France might smell (but it didn’t)
Your sotd sounds lovely and has me lemming for a sample 😋 those notes just hit all the right spots for me and like what I have sniffed from the SMN line.
You smell lovely! I had a bottle of Fieno years back.
I’m joining some of you today in Chergui. My bottle was my first non-department-store buy, and though I don’t wear it often, I do still enjoy it. It’s spicy sweetness is perfect for Fall.
Get well soon, Robin!
Happy Friday, all.
I think I only get partial credit for wearing Bigarade Concentrée — it’s my go-to; I didn’t specifically plan for its hay note today. I *think*the hay note is part of what makes the drydown so appealing (I think the cardamom turns up more in the drydown, too).
Feel better soon, Robin.
I hope you get over it quickly, Robin!
CP-compliant in CBIHP Room With a View today. It’s cleaning Friday, which means I have to tidy up the house and be out by 8:30, which I hate. I really wanted to sleep in today. Oh well.
Someone around here mentioned they thought Vivacious (Hiram Green) includes a hay note, so that’s what I’ve opted for today.
Anyone else getting emails from Bloomingdale’s touting all of their 150th anniversary merch? They have a few Jo Malones featuring the signature black & white checkerboard pattern on the actual bottle, not just the box. Fortunately haven’t seen anything I can’t live without!
Hope you’re soon right as rain, Robin.
going to look at Bloomies website now
I had my little sample of Vivacious ready for this morning, but my hand and nose decided on something else. Almost twins today!
Oh no Robin, the ‘rona curse! I hope you feel better soon. Both of my sons got it in this newest iteration, and my husband. Everyone’s supper boosted in this family, so for the boys it barely registered except for one day of a ” mild cold”. For my husband, it was several days of “bad cold.” Hope yours will be swift and easy.
I’m in a light application of Rainbow Bar because I have a PT appt in a couple of ours. I thought I was going to be right on the nose with the CP this afternoon in SSS’s Tabac Aurea (not physical therapy offices friendly!) but to my surprise “hay” is not listed as a note. Well, I smell hay in it. So there’s that.
Hope that your PT appointment went well!
In JM Oat and Cornflower. Boo hiss to covid
Wishing you a speedy recovery, Robin!
For the cp, I was searching for something else in my sample pile but came across Bois Farine so decided to try that for today. Not hay but grain…but I can barely smell it. To be fair it is a dabber so deciding whether to dump it all on, or to switch to Coromandel which doesn’t actually have a hay note but I tend to pick one up anyway.
Wearing 1000 by Jean Patou today, which doesn’t have a hay note technically but something about the opening has always reminded me of dried apples and hay, so it’s very autumnal to me.
I’m wearing my treasured PdN Vie de Château for today’s CP. I love this one so much, it’s a huge hug of hay and saddle leather. It’s fantastic when it’s hot out and no one’s around, lol!
I treasure what remains in my original bottle, since its been reformulated to death since (along with New York.)
When I wear this, though, I always think of English country estates rather than French châteaux, so today I’m wearing it in honor of Queen Elizabeth.
Robin, I do hope you have a mild case and Mr. Robin is well enough now to take care of you! 🤗
You smell wonderful!
Thanks, ringthing!
Feel better, Robin! Today’s SOTD is St. Clair Scents’ First Cut, which is ALL about hay: https://scentsandsensibilities.co/2018/07/13/fragrance-friday-first-cut/. Love it!
And RIP to Her late Majesty.
I’m your scent twin today. I’m afraid this is so true to life it has had me sneezing all morning, which is what I used to do when the farmer came and cut the hay field behind my parents’ house in northern Indiana. I like the smell but it’s not very comfortable for me.
Hello Happy Friday. It’s also FASD Awareness Day.. a day devoted to raising awareness of fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD) to improve prevention of FASD and diagnosis and support for individuals with FASD. Many with this disorder have brain damage and other devastating physical and emotional challenges. One can get involved by asking your local representatives to support the FASD Respect Act…which is legislation that would provide prevention efforts, screening, identification, research, and FASD-informed services.
https://nofaspolicycenter.org/the-fasd-respect-act/
Hope that was ok to post. It’s not by any means political, just a day of awareness for the much under represented community of people with this devastating disability.
Ugh..I got up to a darn power washer blasting by my place and is now thumping on my door LOL. I guess it was time for the fall cleaning. I am cranky..lol.
I watched that latest Batman movie…which was OK I guess..but idk Batman, in this one..was more emo and apparently scared of heights? Ever since the Dark Knight..which was great..they have tried to go ultra dark and darker…which at a point doesn’t really work. The acting was great…just meh. Bale was the best Batman:).
Commando but will likely join in the lovely Chergui..which is the perfect fall scent..even though..it’s not really fall here LOL.
Bale was definitely the best Batman, and the soundtrack to the Dark Knight is powerful and awesome to listen to when I’m cleaning 😊
Yes, the sountrack is great..TDK was really was a masterpiece all around..it’s one of my favorite flicks and also Batman Begins. The emo Batman just didn’t work for me..the only one that was worse..was, of course, George Clooney. Lol. The actor is great..just doesn’t make a good Batman..he needed to gain 30 lbs, get a clean haircut and be a bit more tough lol. This character looks like he just got out of rehab..a bit gaunt. Not really on par with Bruce Wayne.
Ooooo! I’m going to try this. The Rushmore soundtrack is usually my go-to for cleaning.
I’m wearing l’heure bleue today in memory of the Queen. I need to get it off my chest, this morning I started seeing more tweets/posts/what-have-you condemning the Queen as a colonizer. So I really hope I’m not offending anyone by honoring her a bit today! While I do think it’s progress that we’re looking at history and at people with more nuance these days, it just makes me sad. And let’s face it, most social media posts are not nuanced at all.
Wow, I’m sorry about how side tracked I got from my SOTD!
Robin, get well soon! I hope you have a restorative weekend.
You smell wonderful and no, social media is not the place for nuanced discussion.
Agree about social media posts. I don’t have any opinions about the queen, good or bad. I know some are in mourning and I know some are celebrating..to each their own I guess. I knew people that would get into deep arguments for or against the royal family. I would just wanna exit the room lol. Passionate debates..I stay away from those. I don’t find them as a good energy and will likely leave the room and go towards the snack trays..if any are around:). Lol. I am much more interested in Triscuits and cheeses of various sorts lol.
Thanks for the chuckle, I’ll join you by the cheese and snacks. Only good energy for us!
Speaking ill of the dead is in poor taste imo. I think people that do probably don’t think about their own death and what could be said about them.
Speaking ill of the living though is perfectly fine. Lol.
I like the way you are thinking lillyjo
Lol. Yeah, I don’t get that either.
That’s a great philosophy!
Bwahahahaha on speaking ill of the living! Fire away!
I saw that negativity too and I am a pretty neutral person re: most celebrities dead or alive except if I really hate the celebrity and I won’t stop judging.
I am surprised I haven’t seen Azemour les Orangers yet, but I am wearing it thanks to a NSTer on here. I so hoped I would like it, but unfortunately I find it a bit too masculine on me. Oh, well there are more to be tested.
Robin, I hope you have a mild case and that you feel better soon. Get lots of rest.
Like many others, wearing Chergui for the CP. It smells good on an early fall day.
I hope your case will be mild, Robin – but very sorry you’ve been stricken. SotD for the CP and for a “tink:” L’eau de Paille. It is a shape-shifter, and I like the sweet waves that come and go the best. I’ve had the little sample for a couple years. It’s an usual case of a perfume I quite like, but falls into the money saved box. I put the last of the vial into a sprayer, and in five or six spritzes it was gone. BTW can any French speakers confirm that paille means straw, not hay? This city-bred girl learned the difference when she moved to a small college town in a rural area. But the scent evokes the dry grassiness of either. I will miss Queen Elizabeth, who has been the UK Monarch all my life. I hope Charles will find his way as Charles III.
Yes, paille is straw. Foin is hay.
Molton Brown Jubilant Pine & Patchouli…blind bought this one…there is pine…there is patchouli but there is also LEATHER. 🙂 Too much leather for my preference and I will be listing an almost FB in the next Swapmeet for anyone interested…need to go through the rest of my herd, get rid of others to make room for more. 😉
Thanks for all the well wishes for my sister-in-law yesterday…much appreciated.
RIP QEII. Some great pics in the link below…lots of photos being shared on news sites of when she was young…such a fascinating life.
https://www.theatlantic.com/photo/2022/09/queen-elizabeth-ii-death-photos-remarkable-life/671372/
Robin, hope you have a short bout and feel better soon!
Ooh, save that bottle for me! I will have a vanilla that I think you’ll like. 😉
Sounds good, AnnE…I shall pencil you in on my Swapmeet dance card. 🙂
😄 Thanks, She-ra!
I bought the MB pine and patchouli shower gel last winter and do not care for it at all. Overwhelming harsh leather and the scent lasts on skin for a long time (for a shower gel). I moved the bottle to the guest bathroom where it will probably linger for years.
I did not get a chance to read yesterday’s comments but wishing all the best to your sister in law.
Thank you, adanst! Why is it the ones we don’t like always linger the longest? 😉
Robin I am so sorry you’re ill. I hope your symptoms stay mild and pass quickly.
I cried a little bit when I heard about the Queen. Despite her privilege I don’t believe she had an easy life. So much responsibility. It’s too hot for LHB or a rose so I’m sticking to the CP and twinning with Kris in Azemour.
Scent twins 😊
I was choked up all day yesterday about the Queen too. She dedicated her whole life to the service of her people with grace and integrity. I’m sure it was far from easy at times.
I got melancholy watching the BBC coverage of yesterday’s events.
Oh dear Robin I hope it passes quickly!
I’m in Santa Maria Novella Fieno today.
For tonight’s Patty Griffin/Neko Case show I’ll probably wear Ormonde Jayne Ta’if in honor of her majesty the Queen. May she rest in peace.
Oh, that’ll be an awesome show! Neko was coming through my city but right before we were scheduled to take the trip we’d delayed for 2 years, so I didn’t want to jinx it by being in a crowd and getting something. Miss seeing her live, though!
I hope you finally heard the accordion in “Punk Rock Girl”. 🙂 I didn’t hear it either until the second verse or so, and then by the end, it’s just obvious.
I’m going to keep listening to PRG until I hear it!
Really looking forward to tonight!
Enjoy that show! Neko Case is such a great live performer!
I’ve been following Miss Patty since the Lilith Fair days, but I’ve yet to have a chance to see Neko. Really excited!
I’m so sorry you’ve probably caught it, Robin. I hope your husband is better and that he or someone else can help out. Maybe you can get Pavlovid too.
Thank you everyone for such kind sympathy notes yesterday about my losing my precious kitty Mina on Wednesday. I’m truly grateful. Somehow I always feel I could have done more, though that’s not likely to be true.
I posted my SOTD up above.
I’m so sorry about your kitty loss; I know that pain well. And I know you were a wonderful kitty mommy and she knew she was loved. ♥️
Calypso, I missed the post about your kitty; I am so sorry she’s gone. Sending my sympathy.
So sorry about your Mina.
Many hugs and thoughts..I am very much a cat person and have lost a few myself over the years. It’s truly hard to deal with. 🌹. I didn’t think I was going to get another one after one of mine passed a couple yrs ago..but found a stray, 2-3 mo old kitten abandoned in a parking lot..I tried to get to her a few times. Then put out some food..then eventually trapped her and took her home.
Oh, Calypso, I am so sorry about Miss Mina’s passing. Torties have such big personalities and I understand how her absence feels distinctive. However much time we have with them, it never feels like enough. Her 18 years sound like they were filled with love and care. Sending you hugs.
RIP QEII. What a life! Navigated with calm, perspective and, from what I hear, a sense of humor.
Wearing SS Equestrian for the CP. Not really my favorite, because hay is a challenge for me allergy-wise. But it’s a nice scent. I should swap it someday.
Those hay bales are ubiquitous where I live now, but I never find them anything but lovely, especially at sunset.
I’m thinking I need to grab the new Shalimar flanker if I can. I’m all about the bitter almond…
Oh…and sorry re COVID, Robin. I hope your experience is more like mine than others’. A quick recovery.
I hope you feel better soon, Robin.
I went through the list on Fragrantica and found that Salome from Papillon Perfumes has a hay note. I did not know that, so Salome will be scent of the evening, it’s a bit much for walking around town in the day.
Meanwhile, I do have a sample of Chergui, so I will wear a dab of that this morning.
Cp failure here. I don’t have anything that I know of that would have worked. My sotd is Alien Essence Absolue so I am covered in the smelling fabulous category.
R.I.P Queen Elizabeth.
Robin I hope you are able to rest and recover quickly!
You do smell fabulous!
Thank you!
That’s the Alien with the voluptuous bottle! Rawr!
You should see how dark the perfume has turned! Lot’s of vanilla in this one.
It’s probably as dark as the one I have, LOL! Last time I checked, mine looked like maple syrup. 🍁
Hey everyone, thanks for the kind wishes. I did test positive this morning. I mostly feel achy so far, and tired. Will try to post a poll tomorrow but if I don’t show up please just keep commenting on this one…I will be back when I can !
Feel better and be gentle with yourself.
2nd that!
Wishing you a speedy recovery Robin!
Robin, my best wishes for a speedy and safe recovery for you and hubby 🙏. We both had it early in May despite following all the rules and giving up much of life’s pleasures for 2 years. My first reaction was one of anger that none of that helped or mattered and then finally gratitude that we were ok. Looking back on it, it was almost a blessing in disguise as somehow I felt it was now behind me and I didn’t have to be so fearful and anxious anymore. Since then I have felt more relaxed and able to re-enter the world a bit more while still being cautious. I wish the same for you.🤗
Best wishes for a speedy recovery, Robin. And do take it easy – the illness itself lasts 2 or 3 days but the tiredness goes on for 1-2 weeks and it’s apparently important not to fight that too hard. Just go with the flow. 🙂
Ugh, Robin! I hope you only have really mild symptoms.
No rush, Robin!
Speedy recovery, Robin! Thankfully current variants don’t seem to be making people as sick or prone to long COVID. Hopefully no change in your sense of smell!
Hoping you feel well soon.
CP fail for me today. I was planning on giving Lubin’s Epidor another chance, but this morning, I realized that I had already thunked my sample. So I am in Miller Harris Hidden on the Rooftops, which happened to be sitting on my dresser at that moment. Opens with tea, herbs, and citrus, and dries down into tea and a bouquet of backyard flowers. An “oh, I smell pretty” kind of scent.
Tea is F&M Christmas Black.
I love Epidor..FB lemming for sure. Just gorgeous. I feel like it is a modern fume with retro roots..if that makes sense. Lol
P.S. I think a “Christmas Black perfume” would be fab:)
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love that idea
I think Caron already did something like that..Nuit de Noel..which I guess is “Christmas Night”..but this would be Christmas black.
I get that vibe from several of the Lubins. Epidor is one of the few of theirs that I didn’t lemming right out of the gate.
Have not tried Epidor, but that MH sounds lovely! Are you beginning to feel okay yet?
Yes! Thanks. I’m feeling good, just waiting for my sniffer to get back to 100%. It is slowing getting there.
I had a bit of an existential meltdown when I couldn’t smell or taste at all. My hobbies all seem to be tied to smell, taste and/or travel and it felt like COVID had taken away all three!
😱 I can imagine that meltdown! Who among us doesn’t love those things?
I’m still waiting my turn on the Covid wheel of fortune; I assume it’s just a matter of time.
But I am glad you’re slowly regaining those wonderful senses!
Enjoy that tea! Glad to hear that you are headed back to fully sniffing.
I have had a sore throat/ ear infection for days, not covid so went to an ENT after a lovely lunch for my birthday. Am wearing Fado Jasmin, one of my new purchases. Of course, I also have a semi stopped up nose, so I hope I like my purchases when I can fully smell them…. My vacation is not as densely packed as I thought it would be, but at least we are having fabulous lunches before i need to sleep
Hope you feel better soon!🤞
Oh ick. Inner ear infections SUCK! 🤧
Happy Birthday to a fellow-Virgo! And glad you got yourself a few birthday treats. Hope you are feeling much better very soon!
Oh my, I hope you didn’t fly with these issues. The last time this happened to me (way before COVID), I was pretty much curled up in a fetal position going from London to Newark.
It started on Sat when I was in Maryland, seemed to be getting better, so I flew out Mon night and it worsened after my long flight to Italy. The flight itself wasn’t too bad though
Song of the Day: https://youtu.be/NrgmdOz227I
Beautiful picture up top today, Robin! Very bummed out to hear that you likely have COVID. Fingers crossed that it is mild and departs ASAP!
SOTD = back in 19-69 Female Christ EdP. So not doing today’s CP. I even had a few choices on deck, but the far drydown from yesterday smelled so good that I had to repeat. And incense seems a fitting tribute to mark the passing of HM Queen Elizabeth.
Incense is very appropriate!
Yes to incense! Today’s is on the sweet side, with some vanilla in with loads of benzoin and patchouli.
Great song of the day. 🎶
I can’t say that it was an original idea on my part. A local radio station played the song after the “concern about Her Majesty’s health” announcement hit the airwaves. I thought it rather apropos, so I borrowed the idea.
Wearing just a touch (because we’re finally camping! and I’m avoiding most fragrances this weekend ) of Volutes edt for today’s ‘hay’ note cp. I’ve had a sample for a long while, only wore it once and learned my lesson that anything with a tobacco note is a no-no for me, because that’s all I can smell and I don’t care for that scent note.
Spending the weekend revisiting some of our favorite haunts along the Michiana border; we haven’t been here for at least 5 years so it’s been great thus far – and so has the weather. Last night we had dinner at a wonderful distillery featuring some awesome cocktails and tomorrow night it’s dinner at a favorite winery, with a view so scenic you’d think you’re in Italy and that’s the Mediterranean Sea and not Lake Michigan you’re seeing. Tonight we’re joining a friend of Mr. Laila’s for pizza in one of the Harbor towns. We picnicked by the river for lunch and now just finished a round of 18-hole frisbee golf in Mr. Laila’s favorite course – he played and I hiked alongside through the beautiful course that runs through a forest. A much needed getaway- haven’t been camping since pre-pandemic!
And R.I.P. Queen Elizabeth, not only the embodiment of grace and dignity, but the true meaning of ‘public servant.’
I’m with you on tobacco notes: No can do!
Your weekend sounds fantastic.
Aww, sorry that COVID has probably got you. I hope it vacates quickly.
I was in Chergui earlier today. I found it quite soft and cozy. It’s been a tough week so I’m going to stick with comfy scents for awhile.
Good time of the year for comfort scents, what with the daylight getting visibly shorter now.
Bag, humbug, to Robin’s COVID. Hope it doesn’t get too bad and that you recover quickly.
I did go British today, in OJ Champaca. Pretty much confirms my previous assessment of it: pretty, but it’s not me.
Robin, so sorry you may have caught covid after all. I hope you have the most mild of cases and get plenty of rest.
I’m in L’artisan L’ete en Douce for the CP, though the hay isn’t super obvious to me but is woven through with the white musk and florals. Happy at least to help my decant get closer to being emptied, as this won’t get replaced once it’s gone.
Yesterday I wore the much more hay-prominent First Cut and the day prior I resampled Un Air d’Apogee by Maison Violet for the CP. The latter is quite nice but reminds me of another perfume I can’t put my finger on. Maybe it’s Dusita’s Issara since a lot of people on Fragrantica think that’s most similar to it.
So glad it’s Friday and that this short work week went by fast!
Robin, I hope you recover quickly! Sorry you got ill.
SOTD = Diptyque Volutes EDT
Love this one too! Since I did not post pictures this week with my SOTD, here’s a consolidated view:

So my friend’s husband is still in the hospital as insurance paperwork got delayed. I learned something today – if you’re not on Medicare, too it insurance provider matters! It’s good to know. My friend said he had a great PT day today which I believe was helped by him having sat upright for about half an hour going through speech therapy (a real one) before PT.
Some people are really selfish. When I got off the train and went down the stairs, the guy in front of me was going slowly because he was looking at his cell phone. I know this is not very charitable but I hope he gets tangled up at some point so he learns a lesson. Anyway, once we got to level ground, he kept looking at his cell phone AND walked smack in the middle of the tunnel. Basically, we were all stuck behind him. I couldn’t stand it anymore so I excused myself and overtook him without bumping into him. I know he was smirking and talking about me but I really don’t care. Really, how selfish!
I like the end of the week perfume round-up.
My brother and I learned that “good insurance besides Medicare matters” lesson with my Mom. Still had quite a few hairy moments.
Oops, thought I posted this yesterday:
Sending more healing vibes, Robin!
Sotd is Vouloir Être Ailleurs C.G. for the lovely Linden and Hay notes.
To Robin, I hope you are feeling better soon. So sorry you are ill.
To everyone wearing Chergui today, you all smell great!!
I just opened a new bottle of TF Bois Marrocain that arrived yesterday.
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
12 hours sleep.
I look at the final picture of the queen and am seeing my own mother with perfect white hair and badly bruised hands at 95. And where ever the great hereafter is, I hope all souls that pass are at rest.
Yes to all of these. Hoping all souls are at rest. And you smell delicious!
Tell me more about your Tom Ford!
Happy weekend everyone!
Robin I hope you are not feeling too horrid today!Sending hugggs!
SOTD!
The last of my Vanille de la Terre from Wick.So good,I shall replenish this spicy vanilla bonfire before the next Winter season.Comfort in a bottle.
I looked-like Apsara-at the last picture of Her Majesty, and all I keep thinking is “she’s also just a woman,a mother and a granny”.I’ve been reflecting on the loss of my matriarchs, and I can only imagine the grief behind closed doors.
Be well all!
🌹✌🏻🤗
Happy Weekend J B!
I’ve been thinking of my Grandmother. She lived to be 100! She was a working class women but very much had the class and grace of The Queen. Once she passed family traditions were never the same.
I wish the best to The Royal Family.
Wow, a 100!That is both awesome and scary!
It is sad when the family traditions and gatherings disappear with the passing of a matriarch,or someone that was the “glue” of the family. That was the case with my Grandmother on my Mom’s side as well, after she passed it was like a diaspora as family scattered all over the world, and the huge get-togethers and dinners and birthday parties were no more.
Aw, that is so sad. I teared up reading this. 😿
Hey JB! My matriarchs line of ascendants all lived to be in their 70s or 80s and they all died a dignified death. Kinda sad really that there are some who chose to criticize QE2 with what she symbolized but for me she served the longest out of anyone I know and is someone who is someone else’s spouse, mom, aunt, grandmom and great-grandmom.
I grew up with the Queen!
I was 4 or 5 years old when I watched Diana getting married on television and I loved all the ceremony, the outfits…
Historically I should “hate” anything British, living in a former colony, having a family history of terrible things happening during the Anglo-Boer war, etc, but I don’t.My favorite city in the whole world is Manchester!Haha!I’ve had some of the best moments of my life living in England.I cannot imagine the burden Her Majesty had of trying to modernise the house, while keeping some sort of tradition and purpose of the monarchy. She still devides opinions in South Africa,I choose to respect and mourn her with the rest of the world.🌹
I quite appreciate your sharing this – you have a lot of perspective as one with, it can be said, *four* cultural backgrounds! Also, my all-American heart was deeply hurt when Charles and Diana had to separate, but I think the idealism of Elizabeth II and Prince Philip might be carried on in some of their children and grandchildren.
🌹🤗✌🏻Happy Sunday mossyberry!
I get to have today off paid because I worked the holiday on Monday. I went and visited the grand niece and nephew. I currently smell like baby formula. My official sotd though is Elie Saab L’eau Couture. I think it’s the last of the really hot days here.
That’s good to get paid time off! And happy you were able to see you grand niece and nephew!
So glad you could see your grand niece and nephew! It’s a nice thing to smell like baby formula sometimes. I hope your weather does cool off a little, but hopefully not too much!
Yay for paid off days!🥳🤗🌹
Whoo hoo for another day off!
Commando today because I had a haircut this morning – YAY – and I was simply too lazy to wear anything at this stage but I know what I’ll wear when I get home. This cut will have to last me for 5 weeks before I get my wedding attendance cut in mid-October.
Have a great weekend everyone!
Yay for a fresh haircut!
I have an update on the new Prada… today I sprayed it on my daughter. At first I still found it to smell chemically but it ended up smelling very nice on her, and she proclaimed that she smelled good. Lol. She has always had better skin chemistry than I have.
We’re on the same “hair-path”,haha!Mine has to wait until end oct,my current look requires a bit of overgrowth for the next cut to be epic.🤗🌹
Not sure when my next haircut will be. It depends on how long it takes to become totally unruly. 🙄
Kenzo Amour for me today, as I headed in to work at 10 am. It was quiet and somewhat boring. We have a number of J-1 visa workers (mostly Jamaican and Romanian), and they’re starting to depart. I was sad to say goodbye to a sweet young man who is heading back home to school. I’ll miss his easy smile and singing. I’ll also very much miss the 19 year old girl who has worked in the bakery with me when she leaves in October. It’s been fun watching them all bond over the summer – they live in a nearby apartment complex with a shared kitchen. There’s definitely been some Melrose Place-type drama that has been amusing to watch.
Still working on my thunking my bottle of Rodin Rodin – can’t get enough of this gorgeous jasmine fragrance and it’s perfect for a hot, unfortunately smokey day here in the PNW.
Robin, I’m so sorry you’re dealing with covid! My kid sister and her husband have it too.
I’ve been testing PG Le Musc & Le Peau today for the first time. I’m not sure yet if it’s a true love, but it’s definitely a like. Some musks don’t register at all to my nose (looking at you, Diptyque Fleur de Peau), but this one is just fine. I’m already thinking I may need to try to swap for a decant of this next weekend!
9/11.We’ll never forget, even during these new sad and trying times.
Thinking of you NY and the US!
✌🏻🌹❣️
Thank you J B.
Yes, thank you for the kind thoughts, JB. I hope I’d be as brave and ready to try to help in a disaster as so many thousands were that day.
Thank you J B🌹.
Thanks J B. ✌
9/11. Peace and love today for everyone! 🌹
Wearing CG Avignon.
Excellent choice for today.
I will wear a virtual hay perfume virtually since I don’t have any with that note, so my fantasy choice is Fieno from Santa Maria Novella. I had a sample of this once and loved it, not sure why I didn’t pursue.
Shout out to Robin and family – hope you are feeling better. SotD 24 Faubourg, from my FragranceNet PurplLux subscription. I love it; I can guess how much better the OG was, but this travel spray will be just right. A weekend to reflect: 21st Anniversary of 9/11 and the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. I love reading everyone’s posts!
Got rained on a little bit going to the farmers market and farm stand this morning. Worth it for the fresh produce!
Robin, I hope that you aren’t feeling absolutely terrible today.
On this date last year, I was getting on an airplane for my Mom’s burial. Her funeral had been in August 2021, but the cemetery couldn’t do the burial until September. 9-11 has a double dose of melancholy and reflection for me.
SOTD = back in 19-69 Female Christ. Wondering if it has similarities to one of the Oriza L. LeGrand incense perfumes I have sampled. 🤔
Sending big 🤗🤗 to you today.
Thank you Laila.
Sending love, peace and hugs, Jalapeno. 🌻
Thanks PL67.
Hugs and hugs
Thank you yasmina.
Big hugs Jalapeno 💙
Thanks lillyjo.
I hope good memories helped you on a sad day.
We came home early from our trip due to heavy rain and flash flood warnings everywhere, a scary drive but we made it home safely. It was a wonderfully satisfying weekend.
Remembering 9/11, we were on our way home from Kentucky that day and didn’t know what we’d encounter in our 7-hour drive, had difficulty finding gas and weren’t sure we’d make it home but we finally did. I’ll never forget!
Robin, thinking of you and your hubby today; hope you are resting well and will be feeling better soon. 🤞
It’s pouring rain here. SOTD Miss Balmain, just seems to suit this gloomy, rainy day of remembrance.
Glad to hear that you made it home safely! Flash flooding scares the bejeezes out of me.
I hope you are okay Robin and are able to rest as much as you can as you recover
Light body spray, Mad abt You, from BBW..not really a fan of it..but it was free lol. I’m mad about you..u mad about me babe..🎵. Craving another frosted lemonade..though it’s cooled down some..thank goodness.
Oh yeah..I tried something unique kinda weird..but kinda appreciated it..a smoked cherry margarita..it literally tasted like BBQ smoke and cherry..with like a hint of paprika type spice and salt on the rim? It was very woody. It was like drinking a perfume..? The lady who served me it said nobody likes it and was surprised I liked it some. I can appreciate something different and outside the box..not sure if I will order again but lol. The cherry itself was super good..like a bbqd cherry lol
