It's Hump Day and National Watermelon Day. A very happy 96th birthday to Tony Bennett! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in Hermès Brin de Réglisse.
Reminder: on 8/5, wear a fragrance that says August to you...something that fits with your local weather, or what is blooming at the moment where you live, or that would work where you wish you were this month. Adapted from a suggestion by Laila.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

🌹 Rose Prick for me
Seeing a lot of TF in the news as EL is trying to buy.
Had a great time at the movies yesterday with the kids. I was trying to remember the last time I went to the movie theater…
🍿 🎥
I am trying out Amika hair mask today. My hair is so dry this summer..
House twin!
Glad you had a great time at the movies! I think the last movie I saw in the theater was the Anthony Bourdain movie, which was a bit of a downer.
Good luck with the hair mask! I’ve been curious about Amika products. Mostly because I like the look of their packaging lol.
I saw that. Surprised EL is considering moving into the fashion arena…they already have the TF fragrance license.
Sounds like TF wants to be bought lock stock and barrel!
I bet you hit the nail on the head, H!
I don’t blame him. I wish EL would buy me out. 🤣
LOL, lillyjo!!!
Curious for your review of the Amika hair mask. I like their dry shampoo but haven’t ventured beyond that with them.
So far not impressed but it’s only the first try. I will report back
Any recommendations for a mask for dry curly hair is welcomed
Not sure if this will be available in the US, but there is a very reliable UK line of products from Philip Kingsley (a trichologist) whose Elasticiser hair mask was appara made for Audrey Hepburn. I have used it on and off for years (any time from 10 mins to 12 hours, on damp hair) and it always makes a positive, noticeable difference – smooth hair, way less frizz, manageable and nourished but never weighed down. I have very fine, long and damaged/frizzy hair but I think it comes in a few varieties, depending on hair type.
I will search and buy
Ran out of space to reply to your reply – just to say, if you do track it down, I hope it works for you. You are so inspiring in terms of fashion, make up, volunteering, parents-in-law, family joy and Italian language-learning that I would be so glad to be able to recommend something to you, dear LTSG! Grazie and buona fortuna!
Ooo! Thank you 🙏
I’m wearing Luctor Et Emergo from a decant. I picked this because one of my favorite summer fruit are cherries, which are available now.
Perfect, and you do smell fantastic!
You smell wonderful – cherries for the win on a hot Summer day.
I’m in Like a Virgin LE. Lovely orange blossom which must be blooming somewhere.
Since my girls are both away at camp, I am left home with my guys, my h and son. We’ve been watching The Terminal List on prime with Chris Pratt, which is good but, the episode we watched last night had a scene in it which was so gruesome it left me feeling a little queasy. I won’t go into details, but be forewarned that one has a fair amount of violence.
Peaky Blinders has a lot of violence too and some scenes I have to fast forward through
Oh yeah, we watched that one too.
I love Thomas Shelby ❤️❤️❤️
Good morning.
Sotd is Rose D’Amalfi.
Just had a slice of cinnamon toast and latte. I am happy.
Hey house twin!
I also love that rose from TF
I’m in Secret de K by Kabeah for this beautiful sunny day. Green mandarin, geranium, wild strawberry and linden.
I watched Joni Mitchell’s set from this year at Newport on YouTube yesterday and I highly recommend it. If you have been a fan since she arrived on the scene, then I’m pretty sure you will be incredibly moved. Even though I cried a lot, there were happy tears in there too.
Oh, I should watch that…I did not even know it was on YouTube but I should have figured.
I hope you enjoy it!
Thanks for the tip – I did not think to look for it, either.
You’re welcome!
Demeter Mahogany. Don’t know if it’s what real mahogany smells like but it is dark and woody and earthy, very nice. Demeter does woods very well, in my experience: their Sandalwood and Fraser Fir are both great.
Do they last very long, though? I finally was able to re-buy Gingerale, but it is as evanescent as it is effervescent.
Some of the desserty, vanilla-heavy Demeters have decent lasting power, particularly Eggnog (actually a cinnamon vanilla), but for the most part they aren’t meant to stick around. They’re designed to be freely applied, and then re-applied, as the mood strikes you. There’s something to be said for a short-lived scent, especially at that price point: if you want to wear a dozen different things in a day, you can.
Gingerale is magic. It’s the first Demeter I ever bought and it still delights me decades later.
I’m finally trying a Demeter – Sage. I got it as part of an Ebay lot set for Monday delivery. Not something I would have sought, but cost was $4. I never see these at any TJX stores, but I somehow got the idea that is where most perfumistas get them?
I buy them directly from Demeter. They have at least one decent sale every year, so that’s when I stock up. Or I should say used to stock up cuz too much perfume around here!
Duane Reade has them as does Boscov’s although I think the line is on its way out. The website is a good source, so good I couldn’t decide…
Thanks for the recommendations! I was just thinking that I don’t have anything from Demeter and I should remedy that, lol! Those two are going on the wishlist.
Another TF scent here, wearing Bitter Peach.
That is a nice one too…
SOTM is OJ Champaca, a summertime favorite. Will have to switch to something lighter for an appointment this afternoon though, as Champaca is pretty strong on me.
You smell marvelous!
In Byredo Pulp, another favorite for hot summer days.
Happy Wednesday! 🌞
Happy Wednesday pl67, and you smell great!
Thank you, Robin!
That *is* a good one for summer!
Absolutely! Love it!
Sotd is Olympic Orchids Carosello which is definitely August in a bottle.
For some reason, it reminds me of summers with my grandma and I’m grateful for the scent memory.
I love frags like that. ❤️
I love those scent memories. I’d never heard of Carosello, so I looked it up – it sounds wonderful!
What a wonderful thing to happen with your SOTD.
Chanel No 5 Eau Premiere
Eau Premiere is an excellent choice.
In at work today, and wearing some Ortigia Ambra Nera since we are highly air-conditioned
You smell wonderful. I always have to mention that Ambra Nera is the scent that sent me down The Rabbit Hole. That amber, those leopards, that palm tree!
The gattopardo twins are so cute! I believe it was here that I discovered that while their scents are reasonably priced, their equally-ravishing textiles are not.
P.S. Just checked their site and the leopards are at the beach!!
Off to see them and drool over the kaftans again.
Ambra Nera, really? I gave Mr Dolce a birthday gift of this in soap form a few months ago, he was so pleased with it – and I was too – and now I am very glad to know what it means to you MossyBerry! 😃
In fact, the shampoo was the product that wowed me. I need to revisit that!
I love this one!
Thanks to AnniePerfumes’ mention of it yesterday, trying again with Aqua Allegoria Pera Granita. A very little bit of watering and garden tidying in our very hot morning evaporated the morning’s spritzing. I spritzed again after coming inside for the day, and I think it might stay with me. I appreciate it; I hope to be surprised for the rest of the day; but most citrus, and cedar with them, don’t give me the “aahhh” that I hope for in perfume. We shall see as the day goes on! 😀 Thanks, AP, for mentioning it.
This PG is on offer in a gift box (perfume, mini perfume and something else…?) at a local department store here and I know I have tested PG but cannot remember it…might stop by the Guerlain counter tomorrow to try and join in, so thank you MB and AP for this encouragement!
Its nice and fresh. I love it.
Very exciting to see a gift set!!! Report back, please! 💜
I hope it has worked out for you, MossyBerry! Its such a refreshing scent and perfect (imho) for this weather. I’d be sweating buckets in the garden, today!
Ooooof. I should have watered the plants on the front steps today.
That happened to me yesterday…
Today was a Shalimar Ode a la Vanille type of day.
A good day then 🙂
Does that have a gourmand feel, Dawn? Well, for Shalimar.😉
Memory of Kindness today: CP-compliant because I spend most of August wrestling gargantuan tomato plants that are straining towards the sun. Also needed something light since I’m getting a massage later today. (The rest of my family had lovely massages while we were on safari, but while the setting was much better, I’ve learned not to trust anyone but my RMT with my back and neck. So now it’s my turn.)
You smell perfect, and hope you get a fantastic massage today!
Perfect choice for the CP!
Listening to the newish album Home, Before and After by Regina Spektor…wearing Nuxe Neroli dry oil and Guimauve de Nöel…contemplating lunch but need to send one big email before I eat.🍊
Ooh, Nuxe! I bought a small bottle of a new (to me, anyway) perfume today, Nuxe Rève de Thé, which is a delightful, summer travel-friendly green tea cologne. Need to go back and see if the Neroli dry oil is available here, Nuxe is so good! Also, hadn’t heard of this Regina Spektor album so thank you for this info on both counts😃
I haven’t tried that one but see rhubarb is a note and I do love rhubarb. 🙂 The dry oils are very good and worth a try. I had some of the original dry oil a while back too.
Loved an early Regina Spektor album and saw the review for the latest — thank you for the reminder to go listen to it!
I am wearing Chamade today and the last day of work before vacation.
This amazing smelling lady came as a patient, I was shy to ask what she was wearing but couldn’t resist. She said she was wearing Narciso Rodriguez Ambrée.
Yay for almost-vacation!
Good for you getting up the courage to ask your great-smelling patient what she was wearing!
Commando but Dune comes to mind for local weather scent. Which sounds lovely right now..I have a mini somewhere….lol not sure if I wanna look for it haha. CK Reveal also comes to mind and I never did get me some of that..may have to change that lol.
Reveal would make a good summer no-brainer.
I’m wearing Ormond Jayne Woman today, a long time favourite.
Hope it was a good day Gaynor!
You smelled lovely!
Late to the party because I slept until noon! Feeling rested so let’s see if I actually accomplish anything today…
Surfed the Sample Sea today and picked PdE Wazamba which is a nice cool incense for a sunny day. I wouldn’t mind a bottle of this.
Speaking of bottles, I rearranged my perfume stash but found that the container I bought is actually smaller than the one I had. The different shape tricked my simple mind into thinking it had more volume…oh well…
Happy Hump Day and continue to Smell Well y’all 😎
Glad you had a good rest Deva and hope you can fit your collection in the smaller container.
SotD is Climat. I have a giant-size bottle of this, and I love it! Stay cool tomorrow, all!
You smell wonderful! I was introduced to this fragrance through a generous NST swap. Lovely.
Whenever someone mentions Climat I think of Undina.
Stunning clear blue summer skies today! The weather isn’t bad, either. Hot, but not terribly muggy. I’ll take it. The cats were camped out in the sunny bay window for a while this afternoon. 🌞🌞🌞😸😸
Tomorrow and Friday are supposed to be dangerously hot and humid, though. Definitely putting ice cubes in the cats’ water bowl for the rest of the week. 🔥🔥🔥
Robin, XPN was the reason I knew about Jerry Garcia’s 80th, too. They started talking about it last Thursday or Friday.
SOTD = Smell Bent St. Tropez Dispenser Gold EdT. Changing up on the Smell Bent scents today. I have a few things in mind for Friday’s CP, but might have to stick with something I know I can wear when it is stinking hot and humid. Not interested in dealing with the perfume equivalent of Godzilla!
House twins and almost a dupe of the perfume you wore. Mine was meh though so there’s that. Stay cool – we have to!
I have some special “hot weather socks” ready to go for the next couple of days. Lightweight, moisture-wicking, and all those good things.
What a good idea to use ice cubes for the cats, hope you can stay cool too and drink a lot of fluids.
Teflon is much more a fan of the ice cubes than Spooky.
Love the Dead. The world lost a giant when he passed.
Just picturing your kitties.😍
I’m wearing Vacation. Have you smelled that? Is it similar to your Smell Bent?
And, it is blazing hot here. Beautiful, but be careful outside.
I haven’t smelled Vacation, so I have no idea how close it is to the Smell Bent. What I do get with St. Tropez Dispenser Gold is a distinct aloe vera note plus some white florals.
The cats got bored of window napping shortly after I posted, LOL!
What do you think of Vacation?
Dew point was in the 70’s here today! It was like a sauna. Stay indoors if you can tomorrow.
Going to get groceries tomorrow. It’s overdue. 🤪
Dew points were under 60 here today! I enjoyed it like nobody’s business.
I did not think I would enjoy a whole day of JG music, but I did 🙂
Hello everyone! There was a mention of Hermès Calèche on here lately which made me want to try it, but I was rushing through town and forgot, so put on Rouge Hermès this evening as a compromise. My do I feel good in this: it’s a perfume that is heavy, heady, and suggests its wearer is seriously good at living life for pleasure…so this feels like a much-needed change of pace in bottle form, whew! Good wishes to you all for today.
I’ve never tried Rouge, but your description of its effect on you makes it sound highly appealing!
I want what you’re having.😊
Wow, that sounds like an incredible va-va-voom perfume!
Wearing CdG Blue Santal today for the cold, crisp juniper opening. Gin-based cocktails with lots of ice are my Friday happy-hour drink of choice in August and this captures that perfectly. (Unfortunately, after that opening blast, this turns into a ho-hum, linear sandalwood on me. )
Tea today is F&M’s superb assam. Was hoping the caffeine would sustain me after a meh night of sleep, but I have been dragging since 3pm. Predicting an early bedtime tonight.
That’s too bad about your SOTD.
I hope you get good sleep tonight!
Sorry about the bummer, Vee. Unfortunately, you inspired a sample purchase for me.😂
Meh night of sleep twins. I saw 2:30 this morning before I got fed up and took some melatonin.
SOTD = Smell Bent St. Tropez Dispenser
Meh and may go into the giveaway pile!
I am so not looking forward to the rest of the week with stinky hot weather. 🥵
I may have done something yesterday but I hope I love it. Will let everyone know once I get it. It’s a mystery!
oooo….intrigue!
Noooooo!
That’s a bummer about your perfume. Did you put on something else?
*I’m on high alert! – you are being mysterious*
I hope you love it too!
There is a difference between the OG St. Tropez Dispenser and the Gold version. However, I don’t recall what it is at the moment.
Looking forward to hearing more about your mysterious purchase!
I’m wearing Wilhelm Mango Skin again. The sample I somehow got (in a set?) has really lasted and been in pretty constant use this summer. We’re at 100 again today. It’s light and pretty. I’m going with Diorella tomorrow though. What a wonderful summer scent it is. I want to put it right up against La Perfum de Therese to compare them over time. Right now I am chuckling about the scent for August. It’s my birthday month and my favorite birthday dinner, if I get up to Michigan as I often do, is pan-fried walleye. I’ve been reviewing old pictures of my walleye dinners and dreaming of having a nice such meal…. But I must concede, it’s not really what I want to smell LIKE in August; it’s what I like TO smell!
Yesterday The Washington Post had a very funny post by their data specialist about how to define the US Midwest. They did research using descriptions from AirBnB places that mentioned the word “Midwest” to see (a) where they were and (b) what other things or qualities they mentioned as being “Midwestern.” They gave a map of the relevant states and then said this about features: “”By this measure, the most Midwestern thing on Earth is the walleye, a drab but delicious freshwater fish whose primeval bulging eyes and snaggled teeth would look at home in one of those Nebraska fossil beds.” . LOL! I would give a link to it but it’s behind a paywall, sorry.
Ah, but you CAN see one of my walleye dinners from a few years back here on my Flickr page: https://www.flickr.com/photos/94283635@N00/28614212343/in/photolist-MmCVAH-KAxjqF-ae3a8Y-8t7aDf-6PrGj9-6PhEvv-6PhEmi-5ufZq.
Taken at Fisher Lake Tavern, Coldwater, Michigan.
Wonderful photo, I bet it was delicious and I didn’t know about walleye, so thank you.
Hi Calypso
I Googled green rooms yesterday to see if I could find the one I remembered. I couldn’t find it. It was in America (possibly Texas or Florida) , and came from an US magazine like Architectural Digest or something similar. It was an emerald/kelly green with white trim, and now I’m thinking pink furniture (but not sure). It might also have been in a hotel rather than a home…it was ‘full-on’…more American Rococo than ‘designer 70s’. . It must have been at least one or two years ago.
I’m wondering if it was something like Dorothy Draper’s Peacock room or…Elsie de Wolfe’s music pavilion. But I don’t think it was either of those.
Walleye is delicious! 😋
Hoping for rain, was in Lolita Lempicka L L’aime which fits August well with acidulated redcurrant, and tonight it’s Réminiscence Tonka because I had a craving.
Hope you get your rain!
Thank you Annie!
You can have my rain Aurora!
I would accept with pleasure Lillyjo.
It rained in my area on Sunday, so maybe it’s on the way for you, Aurora!
I hope it will come this way, everything is parched.
I came up with a good layering combo today. I used my bbw watermelon lemonade shower gel and raspberry tangerine body spray. I realized I smelled like a fruit salad but I was missing the whipped cream so I put on Philosophy Fresh Cream. It all worked really well together. After the rain and humidity today, I am looking forward to a normal hot summer day tomorrow.
Clever you, going all in on the perfume fruit salad idea! 🍉🍊🍋🍌🍍🥭🍑🍒🍓
Oh yes to going with a combo, I bet you smelled great.
Rain! We got it here tonight, and it’s a lovely respite (though has been coming for a few days as it’s cooled off.
Put something on tonight after getting home. There was a desperate search for Après le Ondée amongst my samples. I KNOW it’s there, but I can’t find it. So I decided to try the sample of Terre d’Hermes that Nordstrom sent me recently. And…It works on a rainy night like tonight, but I smell like my ex-boyfriend of 25 years ago, but better. I don’t know why it smells like him, honestly, because it doesn’t really seem to share any notes with Davidoff Cool Water, which was of course his scent at the time. But something about it says 1993 in Germany.
