It's Tuesday, National Ice Cream Sandwich Day and James Baldwin’s birthday. What fragrance are you wearing?
Me: day 2 in Parfum d'Empire Azemour Les Orangers. Tea at the moment is a Starbucks latte.
Reminder: on 8/5, wear a fragrance that says August to you...something that fits with your local weather, or what is blooming at the moment where you live, or that would work where you wish you were this month. Adapted from a suggestion by Laila.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: top image shows the Lotus in Midsummer Teacup ("Each piece of porcelain is hand-cast, inlaid with gold wire by expert artisans, and carefully painted brush by brush. After high-temperature firing, it undergoes extensive polishing and gilding before Niivva presents it to the world.") from Niivva, $49. Hat tip to Calypso!
Wearing another favorite for the ” wonderful” hot, muggy days, Arielle Shoshana Saturday.
Another heat wave starts today. It is still breezy and very pleasant outside. Drinking iced coffee and not so ready to face the day after a very relaxing sleeping day yesterday.
Happy Tuesday! 🌞
You smell great! So glad your sleepy day was good & sleepy.
Thank you, Robin! 🌻
Have a happy week . I hope everything goes well.
Thank you, Kanuka! It was a very productive day without any issues!
Glad you had a relaxing day!
My heatwave starts tomorrow. 🌞
It feels like 95 degrees right now. We are expecting temperatures to feel in the 100’s on Thursday and Friday. According to the forecast August is going to hit and fry us with vengeance here! 🔥🔥🔥
Made iced oolong tea for this afternoon, and I enjoyed it!
I just finish making pineapple juice. So refreshing!
Not too bad today but ugh about the rest of the week!
It wasn’t so humid today. Thursday is going to be hell!
Tea is cappuccino and a smoothie this morning.
Taking the kids to a matinee movie theater today. Super Pets and a large bag of popcorn is what they want.
SOTD is Jo Malone Neroli Basil and Mimosa Cardamon, I couldn’t choose so I am wearing both.
Makeup is EL double wear foundation &EL bronzer &mascara
Last week we lost one of our dear neighbors (who’s obituary is in NYT today) Amazing how we saw him in the elevator telling us he wasn’t feeling that great, not knowing that would be this last time in our building and the last time we saw him. A few weeks later he was gone. Meditating on impermanence.
I’m so sorry for the loss of your neighbor. Impermanence indeed; we never know when will be the last time.
Thank you. I think I am still in shock
How is the weather in Canada? We are putting together a travel plan to visit my in-laws later this summer
It’s hot! Bring your shorts and sundresses.
Ok!!
Adding more condolences. That’s hard.
Yes, especially explaining this to the kids. He always gave my kids gifts. Knowing your neighbors in NYC is rare, but we have a little village here..
He also devoted his life to this country, serving in the Navy and really going all the way through the ranks.
He will be missed.
Maybe you can connect your neighbour’s death to one of the movies you watch together to help explain his passing. I haven’t seen many kids movies but sometimes they include death and grief ( maybe Lion King). Or a pet you had . Anything that helps normalise it and take away the fear while leaving room for loss and sadness.
My condolences, LTSG. That’s a nice day for you and your kids, though.
No tips on how to help the kids, I only have experience with immediate family.
In some ways our neighbors are like our little family ❤️
I’m sorry for your loss ltsg.
When I was young the grownups never talked about death with the kids. I’ve tried to just tell my kids the truth as I know it. I don’t know if that helps them or not though.
I think it does help lillyjo – the contrast between how I was raised (attending the funerals of loved ones from the age of five) and how my friends of the same age and background were raised, makes me think that it was all less of a shock to me. It is hard to deal with at every age, but not having it hidden away has helped me all my life.
Also, sending hugs to you too.
Thank you DolceVita.
Sending hugs dear LTSG. This is very sad news.
My condolences on your neighbor’s passing.
So sorry about your neighbor.
Good morning.
Sotd is Shalimar MVP.
Beautiful teacup Robin! I love lotus flowers. Such elegance. My favourite is the giant white ones with pink petal tips. I tried this bite-sized vegetable wrap snack/appetizer in Thailand and instead of leaves they used lotus petals. I did not know they were edible!
Isn’t that gorgeous? They have lots of lovely things.
This one was my favorite! But then, I love most anything green.
https://niivva.com/products/quiet-lotus-teacup
Remember that incredible green room you once posted on NST? I still think about it when I imagine painting my bedroom.
I’m embarrassed to admit I do not! Any idea of what it was or where? I’m just drawing a blank.
I’m wearing Cristalle edp from my decant grab bag. Perfect for a hot Texas day.
You smell wonderful! Do you prefer the EDP over the EDT? I love both, but it seems like the EDP is a somewhat undiscovered gem.
I happen to have a decant of the edp, so that is what I know. I may have a mini of the edt. I’ll have to search my minis. I like the edp a lot.
Ah, this is good to see SheriG! I have the edp (2 bottles!) but have wanted the edt for the past few years and each time I ask I am told it’s out of stock (a Chanel SA at a boutique counter today told me it has been discontinued but I know that isn’t true) so the next time it appears on the Chanel website I will pounce!
Twin–I wore it yesterday and liked it so much I spritzed it again today!! We smell great.
Lovely cup!
scent: Chanel Paris – Biarritz from a manufacturer’s sample. I’m tempted to buy a bottle.
Isn’t it?
Let us know if you cave 🙂
Still undecided about my SOTD, but I’m leaning toward something citrusy again, to help me beat the heat. I might go with Hue by Hayley Kiyoko, a cheerful fruity floral.
Spent a lot of time yesterday working and interacting with people, and it’s clear that I’m not quite ready to engage fully with the outside world — it was exhausting. I found myself at the end of the day just wanting to sit in a quiet, dimly lit room and lounge with the kitties. I think I have hermit tendencies, which have only been enhanced by the past couple of years of craziness.
Smell good, everybody!
I felt the same way when I went back to volunteering. I was in a limbo of 😯 – this is what it’s like. But now I feel that the weeks I don’t volunteer my sense of purpose and joy is gone.
Hermitism is my religion. 🙂
LOL! Me too.
Me 3.
Me 4.
Me 5.
Me 6.
Today, I was a hermit. There was shindig at the Corporate office and I declined…
Now I need a day of recovery even after hanging out with friends.
Yup, a bit of a hermit here too!
Wearing Ninfeo Mio for another warm day, although not quite as hot as it’s been.
Glad it is cooling a little. It is hot here at the beach…I will be in the water soon.
Back in my old summer favorite, Calèche. The only floral note that I get from this is iris. Otherwise, on me it’s all dry wood and aldehydes. Plus a blast of citrus and cypress in the opening. No sweat with this one!
I love Caleche! I don’t see this fragrance mentioned often.
Same. I don’t know why I don’t wear it more.
And wish I’d bought the Eau Delicate when it was easy to get.
And I wish I had kept mine for you. 😉
I think it’s something of an acquired taste. I must admit that the initial spritz does have a little “Eau de bug spray” about it. 😬
Oh, I have a bottle of that, and now I am going to get it out to wear today. Thanks!
My pleasure! ☺️
Robin, you smell fabulous (again), and that teacup is gorgeous! SOTD is AdP Iris Nobile EDT, a scent that proclaims “it’s summer!” to me.
Yep, you smell fabulous too!
Mmm, I love this one on others, but it turned too sweet on me. You smell divine!
Such a shame! My mom’s skin turns everything sweet too — I keep trying to find things that work for her as well as they work for me, but so far no luck aside from Gucci EDP (aka “Gucci Brown”). That one is sweeter on her than on me, but it’s a nice sweet. 😁
Thanks, SheriG. I still manage to find a few that suit me.
A few. 🤣
I think it was at a Sniffa years ago that I was sampling at the MPG counter, and when I held my wrist up for comment, I was told “funnel cake.”
(Or des Indes)
Love that lotus teacup! If it were twice as big I’d buy it. I like big tea bowls. 🙂
Another warm humid day here, will try Love Tuberose I think.
And I would buy it if it were a cup and not a bowl…so you just can’t please everybody 😉
I’m finally caught up on comments from the weekend and wanted to say, congratulations on the sale of your house. So relieved and happy for you, onwards and upwards!!
Thank you, I am so happy!
Wow!!!!! I haven’t caught up on the comments yet but my goodness this is wonderful news. I am so happy for you dear C, may this be the beginning of a very gentle and positive and lasting upswing for you ❤️
Thank you!
Are you back in Canada? And I saw you already found a house?
No, I’m still in SD for another werk, but I did find a condo in Montreal, hoping it works out!
Fingers crossed!
Thank you!
Fantastic news! Glad you found something so quickly! Is it close to where you were living before?
Down the hallway. 🙂
My SOTD definitely says August to me. I had planned to wear it on Friday, but the heat will be so bad in the Midwest today and this is the only thing that works. The scent is Chanel Paris-Deauville.
Wear it all week! Several days of Paris-Deauville wouldn’t be a bad thing. 🙂
I may be wearing it all week. You are right-it wouldn’t be a bad thing.
Lotta folks are in the proverbial frying pan right now.
I’m wearing Shalimar MVP today. It is, thankfully, all MVP and very little Shalimar. Original Shalimar and I are not friends, so I am glad Guerlain makes these flankers. It’s not an August scent, but I wanted it.
You smell lovely, of course! You got a full bottle I take it? Smart buy if so. It’s so well done and such a bargain in my opinion. If they ever bring it back, I’m stocking up.
I have a decant. I actually like Mexique better and have a bottle and a BUB.
I’m another person for whom Shalimar doesn’t work — smells much like bug spray on me.
Did you try more sprays? I know it’s counterintuitive but more sprays was how I ended up loving Chergui.
Yet another person that doesn’t get along with the OG Shalimar.
Demeter week, day two (and building to a couple of August scents). Today it’s Honey, which, like most Demeters, is just what it says on the label. It’s really nice.
Sometimes it the BEST thing when something is what it says it is. 🙃
I like Honey too, and I also enjoy layering it with Beeswax. Many Demeters work really well in the summer!
Also love the tea cup. I am wearing Dame Honeysuckle which is beautiful and perfect for hot weather. Thanks again to Kris (I believe) who tipped off that some of his fragrances were on sale…I wonder if he phasing out the Soliflore EDTs?
I also got a sample of Black Flower Mexican Vanilla EDP which I tried over the weekend and it was wonderful…smelled better and quite different than I remembered it and I wonder if it has been reformulated or if I never properly tried the EDP. I got a beautiful, very spicy and dry vanilla. I have smelled the oil version before a few times and it never rang my bell. Oil-based perfumes generally don’t please me b/c I usually can pick out the carrier oil smell and sometimes oils go off pretty quickly too. The oil version always seemed more about the nutmeg/spices than the vanilla to me whereas the EDP definitely had the nutmeg but was drier w/ more vanilla.
I am not unlike Toucan Sam….just follow my nose…it always knows! 😉 Ah commercials from the 80’s.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FuggaWEBh6E
Yes, I did tip you off on that one. I was wondering if he was phasing them out too. I bought the tuberose Soliflore, but am saving for the cooler months.
She-ra, I think someone told me you were a fan of Sylvaine Delacourte’s perfumes. I was recently in North Carolina and purchased Vahina at a small boutique down there. The boutique is owned by a mother and daughter that are originally from France. They are friends with Sylvaine and have found Vahina a big hit. I fell in love with it. Is that the one that you tried? Just curious. I have noticed that many of the fragrances you like, I like too.
Yes, I have travel sprays of all 5 of her vanillas in that collection including Vahina. 🙂 They had some good deals w/ either 30 or 40% off when her house was new and I couldn’t make up my mind. heaheeh 😉 The orange blossom collection is also nicely done. That is very cool the owner knows her. She is a legend…was just looking at everything she did for Guerlain…
https://www.fragrantica.com/noses/Sylvaine_Delacourte.html
Thanks for the commercial!👍
You’re welcome…brings back simpler times of cereal and Saturday morning cartoons. 🙂
Hey She-ra, I was just commenting yesterday on Dame BFMV and how good it smelled and that it was better than I remember! I bet it was reformulated, and in this case, for the better!
Just went back and read your comment from yesterday and it is eerily similar!!! ehaeheh👻 I had a craptacular work day yesterday and didn’t get to read comments yesterday. My new sample smells really good and I do wonder if it was reformulated. Usually reformulation is associated w/ all things bad but not in this case. 🙂
I have the oil version and find it has more citrus than I remember. Does your new sample have noticeable citrus?
The EDP does have citrus…not sure more or less than oil. To me the EDP seemed less sweet than the oil sample I tried previously. I have the oil sample still and will do a comparison to see how the citrus level compares later this week. 🙂
Got my sample of BFMV in the mail today, plus a couple more soliflores. Hope that Dame isn’t phasing out the Osmanthus; it’s lovely!
Enjoy your samples! I haven’t tried his Osmanthus and should get a sample of that one too.
I have the oil sample for the Osmanthus. It is so cheerful, and I actually have some decent longevity with it.
Robin, those bowls are gorgeous 🙂
Mitzah today, to lean into what is a pretty humid day for the South Bay (I know, I know, this would be considered bone-dry for an August day on the east coast).
Making house decisions is exhausting. I have been looking for a chandelier that is modern but dramatic, not too tall (it’s a single-story foyer), and critically produces 1200-2400 lumens (ie, at LEAST two lights, but probably more). What are your favorite light fixture stores on the Internet? (I’m having trouble judging which sites are reliable.) I’ve found a couple ok candidates on West Elm, but…eh. All the really dramatic ones I like have just a single 60W-equivalent lightbulb slot, which isn’t nearly enough light for me.
Happily, I will be making new home light fixture decisions next year as well. The ceiling lights are godawful in the place I am in the process of buying, so I will be looking too. Let us know if you find anything great!
Yay! I am so happy you’ve found a new home!!
Definitely, I’ll let you know if I find a reliable and good-looking lighting source 🙂
Thanks Koyel! Yay for us both!
Did I somehow miss that you moved to the South Bay? Or are you just here for work? Well if your new place is here, welcome!! The weather has been unusually muggy.
Ah! Actually I’ve been living in the South Bay on and off for the past 12 years (with a 3-year detour in France). I went to Stanford many years ago, and now work just down the road from it 🙂 We are just moving a mile away from our current house, actually. How nice to see that you’re also in the South Bay! How long have you been here? (and can you believe it RAINED here two days in a row, in August?!)
Oh, for some reason I thought you were in the East Bay! I must be getting my NSTers confused.
I’ve been in the South Bay since about 2003. I’m very very close to you! And yes, super wacky weather. I was camping in the Santa Cruz mountains this weekend and surprised by some rain on Sunday morning.
Ah, I’m not quite cool enough to live in the east bay 🙂 How nice to hear that you live so close to me! I haven’t done a perfumista meetup since pre-pandemic, but maybe we can do another someday soon, if you’re interested! Sorry your camping trip got rained on 🙁
Glad you mentioned finding house decisions exhausting. I wonder if you’d have any luck at a specialty brick-and-mortar store?
It really is, isn’t it??
I’ve tried a couple, but haven’t found the right fixtures yet. Maybe I should try a couple more :-/ Urgh.
I found some light fixtures for my house 22 years ago at a local lighting store. Much more to my taste than what was at Home Depot or Lowe’s. Maybe look for a local brick & mortar store in your area?
Ah yes, we did go to a couple but didn’t find the perfect one…and they’re all open like M-F 9-5, which means leaving work early >.> but I may have to give another place a try. But yeah, the first place I went was Home Depot, and I was sorely let down 🙁
It’s been a few years, but in the past, had success at both LightingDirect and Capitol Lighting sites.
Great, thank you!
I always find lighting I want (but not always lighting I can afford) at Lumens.
Thank you, I will take a cautious look!
Ah, and I should ask…have you ordered with no problems, or you know others who have? (They have a lot of options that look good to me, though I’m not sure they’ll provide enough light….)
I have only ordered from them once, and it was not lighting (they have lots of home accessories too) and tbh at the moment I can’t remember what it was, just that it was on sale. If you ask me next week when I’m home I can check my email archives to figure it out.
Anyway, I am not much help because I did not buy something expensive and that’s when it really matters who you buy from, right?
Definitely 🙂 But it’s nice to hear that you had a good experience with a smaller item, because it offers some support of a more expensive purchase going ok! No need to figure out what your purchase was; it’s enough to hear the purchasing experience went fine.
https://www.gardenia.net/plant/viburnum-burkwoodii
I managed to track down the wonderful scent I could smell yesterday, a flowering viburnum in a garden across the road. It is very powdery and honeyed and so welcome in this winter landscape. Stormy weather here, gusty winds. I read David Sedaris’ Happy Go Lucky this week. More bleak than his previous books, dealing with the death of his father and Covid . Still humour but with a bit more soul, though maybe that’s just me bringing my own experiences to it. One essay touches on women who take their bras off when they get home from work, something that he had no idea existed. Wearing Furze as I continue yellow August scents. To match the first signs of spring.
I’m sure if men wore jock straps all day they would be taking them off when they got home too. 😉
😂
Bwahahahahaha!
How lovely, I’ll have to look for a viburnum at the nurseries nearby. And that book is on my reading list; I look forward to it!
I am the odd one that doesn’t take off my bra. Not until I am certain I won’t have to run back out again.
That was in the book: a woman in the audience/ book signing queue had told him that she had had to put her bra back on to go to his talk and he hadn’t understood
Lillyjo, I had errands to do this past Sunday, and I was grumbling about having to put a bra on to do so. Not gonna freeboob in public.
Me neither!
I pretty much only freeboob when I take out the garbage. Every time else except for work, I wear a less structured bra. It’s liberating 😳
Oh, some viburnums smell wonderful! We also have an unscented variety…pretty, no smell.
I thought the same of Happy Go Lucky…and he sounded even bleaker in his radio interviews for this book. He was cheerful on Colbert, though.
Yesterday was my dad’s birthday. We went to the zoo and I wore no 5 extrait. Today I am in the original Coco Mademoiselle.
Happy Birthday to your dad!
Happy Birthday to your father, Dawn!🎉🎉🎉
Happy Birthday to your father! 🎂
Happy belated to your Dad!🎉
Happy belated birthday to your dad!
I’m in Neroli Outrenoir.
Thinking of heading the the “big” mall after work to give VS Bare a sniff. It sounds right up my alley. Has anyone tried it?
You smell great! Haven’t tried Bare, do report back if you try it!
Thanks!
Well, I tried it and it’ll be a pass. The bottle is lovely but that’s about it. It’s too sweet for me and smells like a hundred other perfumes I’ve tried. I’m sure they’ll sell a lot, I’m clearly not their target audience.😉
Oh, that’s a shame.
It is. I had high hopes.
My medium mall VS doesn’t have it yet. I will check the big mall next time I go. Report back if you try it.
My store had 2 display tables of it, along with the body mist and lotion. I tried 3 sprays on my wrist and I am getting mostly pear(?) which fragrantica doesn’t list lol and (I hate to sound like an elitist😬) that *mall perfume* accord. It’ll be a pass for me.
That’s too bad.
Did you ever end up trying Phlur Missing Person?
Funny you should ask! I stopped into Sephora too just to try it and of course they are sold out with an empty display bottle on the shelves. Probably because of all those stupid tiktok videos.🙄😂 I’m tempted to blind buy a travel spray.
Victoria’s Secret perfumes were way too sweet for me the last time I smelled one, which was in The Before Times. Pretty sure they haven’t changed that MO.
Yep, I think they all have the same base and it’s way too sweet for me too. Money saved!😆
Came back from the West End – trip to the dentist – happy with my chipped tooth fixed but rather tired and goodness it wasn’t cheap but then I like to chew with my own teeth I think.
I chose a discreet wrist application of Spezie de Medici, spicy orange, very delicious-smelling and tonight it’s Liz Earle Essence No9, her fruity chypre, I’m half way through my bottle.
Glad you got it fixed. Dentistry is crazy expensive.
Thank you Lillyjo, it is pricey but essential.
Ouch! Sorry about the dental work.
Thank you, it wasn’t really painful except for my wallet 😃.
I adore that scent but it makes me get a rash! I’d give anything to find a safe clone of it. 🙁
I’ve tried to think of a replacement for you, Theorema maybe if you have it.
Dentistry is not cheap for humans or companion animals for sure! Glad to hear that your tooth is fixed.
Thank you Jalapeno, not cheap indeed but happy too that it’s done.
I have chipped 2 teeth and happily forgotten everything about both experiences, including the cost…I wish you the same happiness 🙂
Thank you Robin, happy too and thank you I hope like you that the memory of the cost will fade away quickly.
I’m wearing clothes with brownish tones today, and those colours akways make me think of spicy perfumes, so I’m wearing The Hope from Thameen. I get a lot of cinnamon, Luca Turin talked about immortelle. I find immortelle generally a bit difficult, and now that Luca’s comment is stuck in my head, I’m always a bit worried that I’ll sniff The Hope from a different angle and suddenly find immortelle instead of cinnamon. Hasn’t happened yet 🙂
Fingers crossed! And I sometimes find it difficult too.
I want today’s teacups. They are so pretty!
I’m wearing Shalimar Philtre today, for loads of errands and work. I had to go get my passport photo taken this morning, piled on the concealer because of course a zit broke out this week. Soon I’m off to take my son to the ophthalmologist.
You smell wonderful. Yay for a good concealer!
The nice thing is that those teacups are (relatively) affordable, not like some of the ones we’ve seen (e.g., from Hermes etc.). They do have some teacups and tea sets too.
That’s a beautiful cup! I even checked out their website. It’s another beautiful summer’s day here, and I found some perfect cherries which are one of my favorite foods. I’m wearing DSH’s Eau Cerise.
Oh YUM for in-season cherries! I haven’t had any yet. They’ve been kind of scarce in my area.
They’ve been here for a couple of months but they weren’t that great until now and the stores run out of them really quickly. The Rainier variety is out now too!
I’ve only seen the Bing cherries in my grocery stores. I will keep an eye out for the Rainers!
In Miss Dior original and finding it surprisingly nice in the heat.
You smell pretty.
🙂
Pera Granita, August for sure. Incredibly long lasting for an Aqua Allegoria.
Trying desperately to find the best deal on a hotel. I checked priceline and Expedia. Does anyone else have suggestions?
I thunked a sample od Si yesterday and wore Confetto to bed and Rock Moss with a squirt of Trefle Pur during the day.
Using my fumes!
I have a bit of PG – I’m going to try it tomorrow and see if I get good wear out of it. I like those days where I cycle through my fumes! I don’t travel much, but I found searching for hotels by destination and then going directly to the chain’s website was effective. I did that last summer on a long driving trip through several states.
I hope PG works the same for you.
Thanks for the tip! I’ll take any and try any. I’m a little nervous about staying in a hotel still and I need to feel a little safer about the cleanliness.
I suggest you try Trivago although I have never used it. How about AirBnB?
I’ve used Kayak for flights many times and like them. They have hotels on there too, though I haven’t used them for that. You could also check Trip Advisor and VRBO. I once used Hotwire for a trip I took to Florida with my mom, and with that one you don’t know exactly where you’ll end up but we got some good deals. You pick the amount you’re willing to pay, the area you want to stay in, the amenities you want, etc., and then you find out the hotel you get after you agree and pay. It was fun, and one of the places we got had a great pool and was super luxe.
Tripadvisor will usually show you the prices everyone is listing…so I usually start there.
Hey all! I’m off today and loving it. I dropped my dog off at day care today anyway (what luxury), and have been snoozing and watching TV and waiting around for a repair guy to show up (he finally did, four hours later than planned). I’m trying L’Instant pour Homme Eau Extreme from the lovely Mossy Berry, and it is so nice! I was going to guess it had some suede in it, but now that I’m looking at the notes I think it’s the elemi and sandalwood I’m noticing.
I can’t believe it’s August already! I haven’t done enough summery things yet. I went blueberry picking on Sunday, so at least I got that in (it’s become a bit of a tradition with a few of my friends). Still need to do some swimming and lounging outside with a book.
I hope everyone’s week is off to a good start!
Hey! I had a day off today as well and it was wonderful, so glad you’re having a great day too and I hope this month is full of fun for you.
Thank you! A day off during the week is so nice, isn’t it? I hope you have a great month too!
Whoo hoo for picking your own blueberries! I should do that one of these years…
It’s really fun, and the blueberries taste even better when you pick them yourself!
Definitely a good day for that ice cream sandwich! I am sharing the start of a 4th heatwave with PL67, hajusuuri, Vee, jepster, and a few other NSTers.
A funny thing happened to me on Sunday. While driving on the Interstate, I spotted a car with a Deadhead sticker on the back. No, it was not a Cadillac (sorry Don Henley). Yesterday would have been Jerry Garcia’s 80th birthday. Maybe he was saying hello?
SOTD = still in SB Pepper and Ylang.
It’s been forever since I’ve seen a Deadhead sticker. Pretty cool ✌️
It was on a little white convertible car, too. The driver had the top down for a Sunday Drive.
That is funny! And now I have that song in my head, which is even better 😃 thank you!
I had that earworm on Sunday after seeing the sticker. Hope the song doesn’t get annoying for you, ha!
You are stuck good on that Smell Bent! And how cool about the sticker!
The floral Smell Bent perfumes I have tried play really well in hot weather. I am saving some of the others for cooler temps.
I would have missed his birthday, but XPN played Dead music all day.
Hello perfume friends! I have been all over the place the past few days but so good to see lots of nice news on here today. Delighted to read it, and sending hopes of happiness to those of you not having a good time at present. I was in Guerlain Idylle today (a random purchase a few months ago) and it is lovely, a bright, cheerful floral and there’s even some rose in there so I guess my rose week continues 😃 Also, James Baldwin’s birthday? Oh that makes today very special. Good wishes to you all!
Roses seem to do well in all sorts of weather since there are so many different kinds of rose perfumes.
Idylle sounds lovely! I’ll have to give it a sniff sometime.
I like Idylle, glad they are still making it.
My official sotd is Alien eau Sublime sprayed hajusuuri style.
While cleaning up in the men’s department I unfortunately grabbed a leaking can of generic men’s body spray and now my hands smell disgusting. It has totally overpowered the Alien. I’ve tried washing it off, and I still stink.
Boo hiss for Generic Dude Juice! Ick! 🤢🤮
Oh yuck. I think you could have gone to the ladies section and asked for make-up remover.
Eww! 😖🤭
That’s got to be some potent stuff! Hope you were able to get rid of the smell!

Glad I got in my in office days this week on schedule although I do have Friday still to go in — hopefully, it won’t be as hot but this is wishful thinking!
A few things since I haven’t posted in a few days:
– the Herald Square LUSH boutique is no more. Poof! Gone! No other info available. So I went to Ulta across the street instead and got a lip moisturizer. I will post a picture at some point.
– Saw one of my nieces whom I haven’t seen in 7 months! We had take out dinner at my sister’s place (also her aunt, not the mother). She’s at the age when friends are getting married so she went to one this last Friday and has another one to go to this Friday. We’ll see her again on Saturday.
– I had to use my travel voucher by July 31st. I decided on Florida in mid-September. But … I couldn’t use my voucher because it was under someone else’s name as arranged by the travel agency the Newark Museum utilized when they had a travel program! Anyway, I was told it had been extended to end of next year and I have proof of this via email. I now have to try to rectify but what a PITA!
– Today, this guy who fell asleep on the train was woken up to show his ticket. He told the conductor that “I” took his ticket but I just handed the conductor mine! He then realized that he kept his ticket inside a sleeve pocket … no apologies to me. A pox on him (not monkey pox, just pox)
– Now I know why lillyjo doesn’t like shopping at Target. Who the h.e.double.L requires you to select your items to purchase on an app and makes you bring in an online coupon to get a deal? It was a $15 gift card for buying $50 of a wide variety of items. I looked at the eligible items and picked a good set but was fouled at the register. Anyway, they honored my hemming and hawing because the app did not work for me. Let’s see what happens next time…I successfully changed my password.
– I have to look more carefully at a cardboard sign that fruity guy has. It was cute when he had the watermelon and banana but he’s getting more outrageously not funny so I’ve basically lost interest but would like to read more about him.
What a jerk on the train!
Yay you’re back!
Sorry about the Target ordeal and lol at ” not monkey pox, just pox” 😀
I love those tea bowls, but I would put ice cream in them! SOTD is L’Instant de Guerlain. Have decided to compete in a mile open-water swim. Training is off to a good start.
You’re right, they’re perfect for ice cream!
Good luck with the training, that sounds demanding.
