Rabbit, rabbit, rabbit! Welcome to August, aka Peach Month and National Sandwich Month. RIP Nichelle Nichols and Samuel Sandoval. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm starting the month right in Parfum d'Empire Azemour Les Orangers.
Reminder: on 8/5, wear a fragrance that says August to you...something that fits with your local weather, or what is blooming at the moment where you live, or that would work where you wish you were this month. Adapted from a suggestion by Laila.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.
Note: the limited edition Baby Bogg Bag in Mint ("It's washable, durable, stylish, customizable, and perfect for your next adventure! The tip-proof, ribbed bottom helps keep your Baby Bogg® Bag upright and ready to use") is $80 at Bogg Bags.
🐰🐰🐰 and good morning!
So not ready for a new week 😬
Sotd is Vanille Paradoxe. Fresh herbal vanilla not too cloying in the heat.
Currently drinking a huge mug of coffee.
So not ready for a new week twin!
Triplet here.
You smell good! Such a great vanilla.
Not ready here either, and not ready for August in general!
August! One month closer to fall and cool weather! 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
Still milking my decant of Le Lion and received two comments along the lines of “Someone smells really good!” Yes folks, it was me, but I like to keep a low profile and just agreed someone did indeed smell fabulous…😃
Sorry rabbits, I forgot you AGAIN…
“Forgot The Rabbits” twin here …
I’m with you on welcoming fall! 🍁
Me too!
Good morning-
Kids are done with camp so they are home with me until school starts. I call this “mommy summer camp” Its cloudy today, we are getting ready to cuddle up and watch Lion King. I am embarrassed to say every time Mufasa dies I have to look away or else I cry.
Inspired by apsara over the weekend who wore Rose de Russie, that is my SOTD. Along with some TF makeup
Enjoy the cuddles! And The Lion King. That was my college daughter’s favorite movie as a wee one. She had a lion king themed 5th birthday party and my mom and I even took her to the Broadway show when it played in chicago. Her toy Simba is packed safely away in a box in the basement. Thank you for the walk down memory lane.☺️
Don’t be embarrassed, there was inevitably a part in every kid movie I watched that got me every time too.
We have our share of lion king stuffys and also they are is a lion guard Disney series that the kids love.
Rabbity rab rab rabbit! I was sorting through a drawer and put all my Demeters in one place: those little half-ounce bottles have a way of sidling into nooks and crannies. I decided that this week I’d wear nothing but, and so today it’s Dulce de Leche, which like a lot of their desserty scents has a coconut overtone that doesn’t belong, but if you just want to smell like something pleasantly sweet — which today I do — you could do a lot worse.
I like that one, and I like Demeter minis in general — right size, cheap.
August already. And Monday. And fresh off vacation.☹️ I did remember my rabbits though. And I smell good in Eau des Merveilles.
I got an email that the Dame freebie I ordered on the 4th of July is out for delivery. I’d forgotten all about that! So it’s like a little surprise.😊
What are you getting from Dame? In fact, now that I think about it, I am wearing Dame today.
I got a sample of his BFMV. I went through a small decant a few years ago, so it wasn’t new to me, but I just got home and opened it and I don’t know if he changed the formula or if I just didn’t remember how good it was but…swoon! It smells so good.
Whenever I pull BFMV out I wonder why I don’t wear it more.
Scent twins! Goodness, does this rarely happen
You both smell great!
Hey twin!🙌
Seconding Kris: what did you get?
I got a 2.5 ml sample of BFMV during the promo he ran on the 4th. Have you tried it? It’s good!
That is one of the samples I am waiting for, LOL!
I think you will like it. It’s a good one.
I’m back to doing dips into my various decant bags. Today I pulled out three, and decided to wear Givenchy III. It works for August, because green fragrances are good for me in summer.
Besides Ysatis I haven’t tried anything else from Givenchy.
Let me know if I should sample this one.
I think you might like Organza.
Ok, I will put it on my list to sample
Or Organza Indecence.
The original version of Givenchy Very Irresistible is similar to Elizabeth and James Nirvana Rose. So if you like a rose & vetiver scent, it’s worth a try.
Hello and happy Monday dear NST gang, it’s been a hot minute! I hope you’re all doing well. I’m wearing Heeley’s L’Amandiere which is refreshing and bright with green almond, hyacinth and linden. I think of it more as a Spring scent, but it’s perfect on this overcast and drizzling day. I’ve already felt the seasons shift ever-so-slightly towards fall, and that’s my cue to start looking forward to Spring!
That sounds lovely!
It is! I rarely hear Heeley mentioned these days which I find surprising.
*waves to Holly*
*waves back*
Hiya Holly!
Hiya!
Feeling summery in Philosykos. 🌞 We’re getting a small break from the heat wave that’s been hovering here lately — it’s only supposed to get to 88F. Far more bearable than 100!
Love Philsoykos, but for some reason I find I like it better in the cooler months.
You smell great!
Wearing the summery Hermès Eau de Néroli Doré for the CP.
We are having an unusual cloudy, drizzling day in the 70’s, before the next heat wave start hitting us tomorrow and for the next 7 days. I decided to stay home today to fully rest. I am having my second cup of coffee with a splash of orange blossom water and planning on napping and watching tv for the rest of the day.
Happy Monday, everyone! 🌻
I hope you have a very restful day! House twins.
Thank you, Sistine!
That sounds like a perfect day! Hope you find something fun to watch.
Glad to hear that you took today off to recharge your batteries, so to speak.
Trying the latest L’Interdit flanker today…Nocturnal Jasmine. I am getting amped, somewhat sharp jasmine and less sweetness than the original. I have been on a jasmine kick and was sad to see Jasmin de Pays is now sold out on Fragrancebuy…he who hesitates and all that. I am trying to slow my perfume buying roll though so perhaps it is a sign. 😉
Over the weekend, I finished The Ghost Fields (the latest Ruth Galloway book I am on) and started Only Murders in the Building and Nine Perfect Strangers…both quite good.
I have been curious about this flanker, do you like it? Is it a quiet Jasmine or have good projection.
I liked it but will need to try again. It had pretty good projection for the first couple hours I think…was hot here yesterday and I find stuff dissipates faster in the heat too.
I liked Only Murders but have not decided about season 2, did anyone see it?
Love the Ruth Galloway books….I think I discovered them here from one of the book lists. I am also a jasmine lover…my fave is still a very old one from L’occitaine (think I bought it in the late 80’s).
Sounds like that L’Interdit flanker might be worth a sniff!
Back from a great trip in North Carolina. We had so much fun with the kids and grandkids.
SOTD is Dame’s Peach Blossom, Violet & Vanilla for Women.
Yay for kids and grandkids, so glad you had fun Kris!
I actually remembered to rabbit today, possibly for the first time ever! Can’t wait for August to unfold in a spectacular and lucky way as a result.
Today’s scent is Vetiver Tonka. I smell so good.
The sun is rising later and later every day! The dog always gets me outside before 5:30 and lately our complete walks have been in the dark. Today the first birds didn’t start singing until we turned into our driveway.
You smell spectacular, so the rabbits are already working their magic!
I think we must be dog twins. My dogs like to be up before five when the only bird awake is the owl in the forest next door.
Remembered to rabbit last night before I went to bed, but it was after midnight, so I’m counting it. 🙂
SOTD is Papillion’s Angelique. It finally rained last night and broke the heat a bit. Still hot & humid, so I wanted something light but also a teeeeeeny bit sultry to acknowledge that the humidity is (this one time) a welcome change. This fit the bill.
This weekend I stopped by Hermes at the cheche mall. My wrist to wrist comparison of Equipage and Equipage Geranium went about as well as my comparison of the Dans l’Ombre l’Eau EDP and EDT did . . . I am surrounded by lemmings.
Tea today is F&M’s Darjeeling. It’s a good darjeeling, but there are others I like better so I’m making a note not to replace it once its done.
Hey, it counts!
Have not been in Hermes in ages, must schedule a trip to smell the new things.
Did you sniff anything else of note at Hermes?
Hiris, which was lovely, and Iris Ukiyoe, which turn a bit sour on my skin. I’d give IU another chance in cooler weather. I was masked up in the mall, so I didn’t sniff any of them until I got to my car, and it was so hot that citrus notes may have develop strangely on me.
Happy August, dear friends! I smell wonderful in Passage d’Enfer again.
My birthday was yesterday, and we had a wonderful celebration on Saturday! My friends and husband surprised me with a karaoke limo trip up to Sonoma, where we visited several wineries and had lunch at a favorite restaurant. Then everyone came back to our house for pizza and cake at night 🙂
Today, I came into work to find a giant blow-up cupcake reading “HAPPY BIRTHDAY” blocking my doorway. I’m not sure who put it there but I love it!
Belated Happy Birthday! Your Saturday celebration sounds perfect, and how adorable is the giant blow-up cupcake greeting you this morning! And yep, you do smell wonderful!
Thank you, Holly!
Happy birthday!!!
Thank you, pixel!
What wonderful surprises! Happy Belated Birthday 🎉
I’ve never worn Passage d’Enfer in the heat. I bet it’s nice.
Thanks, AnnE! You know, I’ve got to admit it wasn’t very hot here 🙂 Bizarrely, it *rained* here today (in August! what?!).
What?!? 😯
Happy Birthday!
Thank you, lillyjo!
Happy birthday!
Thank you, ockeghem!
Very happy birthday to you!!
Thank you, sistine!
Happy birthday. Did you ever locate the wisteria print for your walls, or find an alternative?
Thank you, Kanuka! And thanks for asking–I ended up going with an alternative, made by people who were easier to interact with, though the final result won’t be as beautiful as the original would have been, if I had stuck it out with them :-/
Your story is proof positive that customer service can make or break a sale. It’s not enough to make a great product.
Oh totally. It’s all about the quality-hassle trade off!
Happy Birthday!!!
Thank you, Vee!
Happy birthday!
Thanks, Gaynor!
Happy Birthday Koyel, what a fantastic celebration and you smell great.
Thank you, Aurora 🙂
Happy Birthday, Koyel! It sounds like a wonderful celebration!
Thank you Gail, it really was 🙂
What a great idea for a birthday surprise! You married well 🙂
Hehe, distaste for perfume notwithstanding? 😉
You can’t have everything…or so I hear.
😂
Sounds like a great birthday….what’s your go-to karaoke song?
Do you know, I’m not sure I have one. I will sing *anything*. We did a lot of throwbacks to the early aughts–you know, Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, *NSYNC, that sort of thing 🙂 Those are great fun because I don’t know the lyrics to anything written in the past 17 years, but those songs are embedded in my psyche until death.
Happy belated birthday!
Thank you, NinaV!
Happy Belated Birthday, Koyel! That giant inflatable cupcake is an awesome work perk. 🎉🎂🥂🧁🎁
Thank you Jalapeno! And thank you for a marvelous collection of emoji 🙂
Happy belated birthday!🎉 What a great day!
Thanks, mtg 🙂 It really was!
Happy Birthday, koyel!
Thank you, hajusuuri!
Happy birthday to you! That sounds like such a fun trip!
Thank you tulipani, it was!
Happy belated birthday! I’m so glad you had such a special day.
Rabbits! I didn’t quite remember, but at least I did remember that it’s August. We had a little rain yesterday and this morning but thankfully no lightning.
RIP Nichelle Nichols. We love the original Star Trek, silliness and all.
SOTD is Sara Jessica Parker Stash Unspoken — a sunscreen scent. Very summer.
We’re gearing up for another ‘destination wedding’ next month. A pox on these things, I really don’t like someone deciding my vacation plans for me, or raiding my bank account to this extent. We were told to book the hotel for 5 nights for this one, and so far there are events planned for only 2 of the days. Grrr. And we gotta PAY for one of the events. I love my niece but, well, grrr. Grrrrr!! At least so far we are not being told we need to send in photos of our proposed outfits for approval, like we were told to do for the nephew’s fancy wedding a couple of years ago (we didn’t) (and he’s divorced already). Bah! It’s the marriage that matters, kids, not the dream wedding….
I remember that wedding!
It’s too bad about the divorce. I agree with you about the dream weddings.
Pffft. Yeah. Nephew’s 2nd wedding is scheduled for next year. At least that one won’t be a Giant Thing like the last one.
I remember it too. It was memorable 🙂
Yeah, with you on the dream wedding thing, too. I can’t imagine the presumptuousness of requiring all of your guests to fly to someplace expensive for a full week, pay for events, and then send in outfit photos for approval. Seems like a recipe for a quick divorce when it’s more about the wedding than the relationship.
I know I know I know! The presumptuousness is really what gets me.
I’m with you — I wouldn’t want to spend all that cash on a destination that wasn’t of my choosing, timing, or related to my own interests. I’ve got to reserve a hotel for an upcoming wedding in Mill Valley, and I’m already feeling a bit resentful about the time I’ll have to take off and the money I’ll have to spend. I get that folks become FULLY engaged in this process when it’s their wedding, but it’s irrational to think that everybody around them should be as committed — emotionally, temporally, monetarily — to the event. I’m peevish on your behalf. It’s a celebration, sure — but does it have to be life altering for everybody attending?
We can be peevish together 🙂
Oh, and for that event we have to PAY for? We got informed that we need to sign up with a payment company that we don’t use in order to send the $. Sorry, no, I am not giving direct access to my bank account to some company just to make your life easier. No no no. I put the check in the mail this morning, I bet that’ll make me popular.
Outfit approval??? Bah humbug.
Yeah we refused to send photos. If you want approved ‘extras’ for your wedding, go hire them. If you want your actual loved ones there, accept them as they are (especially if they’ve paid thousands just to attend).
Another one! My condolences.
Yikes…condolences indeed.
Ugh, so sorry to hear that you have been inflicted with another fancy-schmancy destination wedding!
This is craziness! Five days for a wedding??? You have got to be kidding me. I have not heard of this one before. Is this the latest fad? Maybe they don’t do this in the Midwest or I just haven’t been to a lot of weddings in recent years. Whatever the case, I can’t imagine celebrating for 5 days. Maybe I am just getting old.
Enjoy the wedding but jeeze louise you have some entitled nephew / niece. Hopefully No.2 is good for your nephew as I think he is better off without one of the worst bridezillas ever!
Your description of this destination wedding and everyone’s subsequent comments should be required reading for everyone planning a wedding.
Hear, hear!
August to me means hot, humid and grumpy, so I always need a bright, cooing, cheering scent. Today it’s Imaginary Authors Mint 26.
I’ve never mentioned this one for fear of sounding like a show-off, but back when I lived in PDX, a few of us sort of invited ourselves to Josh Myers’ studio, and it was so much fun. He was just the nicest guy, and when we all *loved* a mod he had been working on, he made us decants of it. One of my favorite perfume memories ever. ❤️
My bottle is almost drained, so I will have to buy Mint Julep next to see how closely they resemble each other.
Uh, yeah, that should read cooling.
I had a few moments of fun imagining what a cooing scent might be! Your trip to Josh’s studio sounds wonderful.
Thanks, Holly, it was really special.
Hope Mint Julep will not disappoint.
Thanks, Aurora!
That’s lovely, glad you had a special scent! and echoing Aurora, hope Mint Julep is not a let down.
Thanks, Robin.
I hope your re-entry after vacation wasn’t too miserable. 🤗
I was home for 1 day, went to Philly for weekend to celebrate husband’s birthday, came home Sunday night, then this evening came to beach. When I go home on Friday it will be all over for the summer pretty much (and worse, since I’m here to finish off the business of selling my mom’s beach condo, so my future beach access will be seriously diminished) but meantime I am still officially on vacation! But thanks for the good wishes 🙂
Happy belated birthday to your husband!
Oh, sorry to end your vacation early. Oops!
No more beach condo? Wah. That must be an unwelcome change. I hope you enjoy the last of it and have lots of photos to remember it by. ❤️
Thanks Koyel!
AnnE, it is the right time for her to sell it but yeah, I will not enjoy it one bit!
That is neat AnnE. I emailed him about something one time and he sent a very nice note. I appreciated that he wrote back to me. I have had good customer service from his company. I own two of his scents and have really enjoyed them.
Nice to hear, Kris. Isn’t it great that sometimes, companies are run by genuinely nice people?
Oh wow, what a nice memory!!
I’m wearing California Reverie this morning, I wanted flowers. RIP Pat Carroll, such a distinctive voice and laugh, and Nichelle Nichols.
I was a fan girl of Nichelle Nichols when I was a kid — I thought she was the epitome of grace and elegance.
She really was!
Twins with Robin, though hadn’t read this before I put on Azemour. Forgot my rabbits. It’s a holiday here today, so having a nice, quiet day…made even quieter by the fact that we dropped the tween at camp yesterday. Two weeks without tween snark! (I’ll miss her, but not the snark.)
Tween snark is truly something else. Enjoy your two weeks of peace!
We are forgot-the-rabbits twins too 🙂
When I went outside this morning it was surprisingly warm, the ( foehn) wind coming from the north west. It was pitch black but the scent of something nearby was in the air . It smells like mimosa or pittosporum but it’s too early for either and so I don’t know what it could be. The gorse and broom growing on the hillside is in flower but it’s not that. Once the sun rises I will go snooping. The wind has picked up now and we’re in for gales.
When I think of August I think of yellow as the first flowers of spring tend to be yellow: gorse, kowhai, broom, forsythia…in fact it might be forsythia I can smell. Wearing Ostara though no sign of daffodils yet.
How’s the tooth? Love Ostara!
Thanks for asking! I can’t decide which is more painful : the tooth or the money spent on it. It was all filed out and prepped and will probably be “ tender” for a few days. Have to go back next Monday . $700 so far.
Oh my. I am so sorry, that’s not fun.
Glad you are least smelling wonderful things…I do not know the smell of gorse other than via Lush Furze, but I do love that smell.
Our variety of forsythia doesn’t have much if any smell.
Completely forgot to rabbit. Finally getting my lazy butt to work today, and I’ve chosen to wear L’Artisan Mandarine (from my ancient decant) for its uplifting citrus vibe. Top notes were slightly off, but that effect faded within a minute, so I’m happy with it.
Hope your lazy butt made it through the day Lisa D!
August already! Still lots of cold weather to come, but spring is getting closer, the first flowers are out on an early magnolia nearby.
Amouage Beloved today.
We have very early and very late varieties of magnolia…I wonder if that’s the most overlap we get in flowers?
It was MH Tea Tonic today which always reminds me of Voyage but more citrussy and tonight I kept the Miller Harris theme with l’Air de Rien.
Such a bummer that Miller Harris discontinued some of the older scents!
Yes, true and they were from Lyn Harris, with that classical touch, but did you know MH has l’Air de Rien again on their website since last year? It’s such a musky, powdery gem which I like better than Musc Ravageur.
Today should be the last day of our heat wave, so I’m hopeful this is correct. We may even get some rain in a few days!
Wearing Iris 39 in the oil version today since it wears closer to the skin.
Hope so! Too many heat waves.
Rabbits all around….I even remembered this morning! I am in Cristalle, which is always a great summertime scent. I think this might be the first time I spritzed it this season…..have loved it for 50 years.
You smell wonderful.
Perfect!
I was wearing Aqua di Parma Rosa Nobile earlier while running errands – a nice and simple scent, but this evening I think I’ll go with something more interesting, maybe Hermes Eau de Narcisse Bleu.
Have a great week, everyone!
You too NinaV!
I’m back from my camping trip. We had a lovely time, and the gang of kids had a great time! The weather could not have been nicer, it was neither too warm nor too cold. And I’ve certainly been on camping trips where it got too warm AND too cold in the same day, so I was very appreciative. No smoke and fires nearby this year either. We lucked out.
Forgot to rabbit this morning, but my post-trip laundry pile is already under control, so I feel like this week and this month are off to a good start.
I’m wearing Bengale Rouge again because I enjoyed it so much from tiger week. I did miss my perfumes a lot on my trip, I deliberately didn’t bring anything with me because I feared they would attract mosquitos and other insects.
Good call on not bringing perfume to a camping trip.
I “rabbited” last night as soon as I realized it was after midnight. It was towards the end of a conversation, though, so the rabbits might be a little miffed about that.
I saw Nichelle Nichols in person at Gen Con about 10 years ago. She was on her way to a meet & greet, or a panel discussion. I figure I was maybe 50 feet away from her. She looked every bit as beautiful as she did in photos and film.
Cool-ish for summer here today and cloudy. Strangely enough, I am enjoying it. Go figure.
SOTD = still in Smell Bent Pepper & Ylang EdT. It’s a good one for summer.
Nichelle was lovely 😍 that’s a fun brush with celebrity.
I was stoked the rest of that day after seeing her!
Cooled down here too. Another heatwave midweek.
Yeah, same wretched forecast here. Thursday is supposed to be heinous! 🔥🔥🔥
We did have some good/different weather here today–enjoyed not sweating as soon as I opened the garage!
It was wonderful having a break from “the air you can wear”!
🐰🐰🐰!
SOTD!
Vanille de la Terre, from Wick.I no-brainer-dash-out-the-door-Monday morning perfume.
23:28pm,all quiet now.A.warm evening,and I’m living for it!
Have a good one friends!
XO’s
warm evenings are so relaxing ☺️ enjoy!
I’m so glad you are getting good weather. 🌞
sotd = Luci ed Ombre
A BWF on a hot day FTW! 🌞
Hope I never tire of this perfume.
LOVE 💓 that bunny bag up top today. I forgot to rabbit rabbit rabbit so hope all of you who did will please share some of your good juju for August with me.
Today is the first day of this summer that I have no appointments all day. I went for a walk, tidied the garden, texted friends, and gave myself a pedicure. Perhaps this month begins a quiet few weeks. 😉 One can hope!
Wow, what a summer you’ve had so far. Hope that you can have some R&R!
RIP Nichelle Nichols, a beautiful and professional actor. I am 35+ year front-line CSR, 22 years of which involved using a not-as-cool-as-Uhura’s earpiece. In my youth, I thoroughly imbibed the OG Star Trek, and I am sure she was one of my role models for how to handle “incoming signals.” Feeling sad and thankful for her life. SotD was Aura body cream with a spritz of Insolence. Don’t know what I would have picked if I’d heard the news about Ms. Nichols so no connection with my thoughts now.
I think Aura fits pretty well.
I’m a fan of the original series too.
I remembered my rabbits some time in the middle of the night.
My Aunt’s funeral was today. I wasn’t going to wear perfume but Miu Miu caught my eye and I put some on.
Condolences on the loss of your aunt…I always think of scent as memory and would choose something special to honor the occasion.
Hugs lillyjo. I hope that you got some comfort from the funeral, even though they are sad and somber occasions.
So sorry to hear about the passing of your aunt, lillyjo. My condolences to you.
I think I missed the news of your aunt’s passing. Sending you a hug!
Thinking of you and sending more hugs.
