It's Hump Day and National Scotch Day. Happy 100th to Norman Lear! What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in a little dab of Annick Goutal Mandragore.
Reminder: 7/29 is International Tiger Day...wear whatever you think fits.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Wearing Masque Milano L’Attesa 😍.
Beautiful warm, sunny day. Not a single cloud in the sky.
Having my second cup of coffee with a couple of lemon cookies and ready to face a long, boring two hour meeting.
Happy Wednesday! 🌞
Meeting should be over now!
You smell great 🌞🌷
Done! having lunch now! 🙂
Classy!
It is!
Oh, you smell amazing!
Thank you! 😊
Happy Humpday to you!
👋
I love Scotch! I’m in Vierge de Fer from Lutens-thank you, discount sites. It’s a beautiful fresh scent for summer-I get ripe pears and sandlewood, and I don’t feel like I smell like food, if that makes sense. Gorgeous weather-bright and sunny and not too hot.
I hope everyone has a decent day , and I’m looking forward to reading about the scents others are wearing.
I have to re-try Vierge de Fer to remember what it smells like.
I have seen sandalwood spelled as “sandlewood” and the latter spelling looked odd to me. I googled and did not see sandlewood as a word. Is it a regionally-correct way to spell it?
I believe the official spelling is sandalwood.
I think you’re probably right, cazabon. My spellsheck let it through-it must have a sense of humour 🙂
LOL – given my spelling “expertise” I hope mine has a sense of humor 😉
It let through spellsheck so you may want to find a new one 🤣🤣🤣
Just kidding, of course.
Love Scotch, also. Am going to borrow a bit of hubby’s
A*Men pure Malt. Or maybe try to find my sample of Alan Cumming’s Cumming.
If you’re an Alan Cumming fan, he’s read the book Anil’s Ghost by Michael Ondaatje. It’s so beautiful. It’s on Audible, and also on I tunes. His autobiography is tough to read, because of his upbringing, but it’s really good 🙂
Oh, interesting. I bet he is a good narrator.
I’m wearing Bigarade Concentree from a manufacturer’s sample.
FBW?
National Scotch Day? I’m in! 🥃
SOTM is Italian Leather, and it’s glorious right now in the slight chill of the morning. Gonna be another smoking hot day here, so post-shower I’ll switch to something citrusy — I have a couple of 4711 decants in the fridge.
Tell me more about Italian Leather…
Well, my brief description sounds ridiculous (vanilla and leather with tomato leaf and galbanum), so I would direct you to Angela’s review here and lucasai’s review on his blog. Angela says her impressions are of a “ bright, herbal aroma right after spraying Italian Leather — must be the green tomato leaf accord — but it’s soon overcome by a velvety wash of vanilla, leather, sweet wood, motor oil (maybe leather plus myrrh?), and loam mixed with crushed dandelion stems”, and that’s spot-on consistent with my experience. Lucasai goes into even deeper detail and makes me wish I could smell Italian Leather on his skin … or at least smell it with his nose.
I also wore a 4711 cologne direct from the fridge when I got home from work yesterday.
I’m nearing the end of my Very Irresistible for Men, which I think is the last great Givenchy scent before they just said to hell with it and started cranking out eight-ten-twelve scents and flankers a year with a consequent nosedive in quality. (Although of course I haven’t tried every single one of them: perhaps there was a string of triumphs after that, though I doubt it.) It really is terrific, delicious without being sugary and gourmand — fresh edible greenery, then milky hazelnut coffee and wood.
They did some great men’s fragrances back in the day.
That sounds SO good.
SotD Amouage Opus VIII. I got distracted from the tiger theme somehow. I have a sample and the first time I wore it, it was a big no. I noticed that all the Library Collection scents are now appearing at my Fr……Net, which is why I dug it out. It is still waaay out of my comfort zone in terms of the traditionally masculine aspects of it. But I am finally detecting some florals. I have and love Opus III – does anyone else have a favorite from this line? I’m thinking the ship is going to sail on the Library Collection??
I think they are repackaging it and discontinuing some of the scents. I never really loved any of that collection so I can’t comment on it.
I don’t own a single one although discounts give me pause.
Isn’t there either a new iris one or a leather one?
There’s a new Opus XIV Royal Tobacco.
I think it’s tobacco + leather.
Yes – on Fragrantica, I saw a new bottle style for Opus VII and it was called “Opus VII Reckless Leather.” The perfumers were the same and the notes mostly so. But I don’t know this one.
Opus III is the one I have too.
I have Opus VI, I won it in a blog drawing years ago. It’s definitely a cold weather scent but I love it. It’s like a citrus incense scent, unique. My mother and husband both love it too. I haven’t tried the others.
You are allowed to say the name of the store, we don’t care 🙂
I have a few of those Amouage Opus samples in The Sample Stash. Maybe someday I will get around to trying them!
I’ve tried most of the Opus series, and the only one I fell for and bought a FB of was Opus VIII. I have to be in the mood for it, but when I am, it’s one of the best and most complex scents I own. There is a mind-bogglingly detailed review of it by Kafkaesque from awhile back; she gives it a complex read as a masterwork of rendering light and darkness, tracing it through an incredible number of steps and stages. It’s somewhat over-the-top as a perfume review (and she always overdid her use of illustrations), but is still interesting just as an exercise in ambitious perfume critical writing. It’s all about opposition, light and dark, feminine and masculine, etc. While I can’t go all the way with her rather fanciful observations, it’s a good example of trying to represent what is in fact a very complex perfume and scent experience.

Testing a new 4160 Tuesdays scent called The Plains, from the latest Scenthusiasm releases. Will report back later with my thoughts. I believe it’s supposed to smell like the plains of Canada, with essential oil of goldenrod.
That sounds intriguing , can’t wait to hear your thoughts.
It definitely smells like the outdoors – smells like fields of grain or wild grasses. Quite interesting and unusual, not something you would expect in a perfume. I could see myself wearing this on a day when I would be walking out in nature and not wanting to wear something « perfumey ».
That sounds absolutely incredible. I grew up in Alberta, and the smell of the prairie is one of my favorites.
Oh that sounds great.
Hey is the dog still there?
No, he’s back with his mom for the moment, but she’s having health problems so I may need to take him back at any moment.
Glad to hear you at least have a break from that!
You really are a wonderful friend.
I hope her health issues get better.
Your fragrance sounds amazing! “Not perfumey” seems like an interesting category to me.
It sounds like a huge trigger of hay fever to me!
For the CP-
To bring out my inner Tigress , Shalimar 🙂
Gucci bronzer today, cheeks and eyes. I look like I have been kissed by the sun.
You smell wonderful!
I am wearing Mon Guerlain.
Crazy busy week, lots of things to finalize at work and at home.
I just found out there is a Mon Guerlain extrait, a friend is sending me a sample, looking forward to trying it.
Woow, I will try to find that.
I was thinking of that one, too. Suzan at Shop France could get it for you. Don’t know when her next trip is, but exchange rates are about even, and have been better lately, plus the duty free thing. I am keeping some “powder” dry!
thank you, do you think I can find it at Paris airport?
I don’t travel enough to know. But Suzan seems to get things at the best price.
I think you can only get it from the Guerlain boutique in Paris.
WOW! Do let us know how you like the parfum
Hello.
Sotd is Miss Dior Original.
The cheesecake yesterday was yumms. Here is the recipe for those interested: https://www.bonappetit.com/recipe/basque-burnt-cheesecake
Thanks, happy888cat!
You smell lovely!
Basque cheesecake is my favorite version!Yummm
Glad to hear that your cheesecake was a success! 😋

SOTD!
Vanille de la Terre from Wick fragrances.Vetiver/vanilla goodness.
Ockeghem, did you get to try any Wick fragrances in Cape Town?
Hope everyone up north is staying cool!
I can smell Spring….🕺🕺🤣🌹✌🏻🤗
You know J B, I can smell the Fall (autumn) coming my way.
LOL!!!
No!😭🤫
Yes! 😜
Lol. I know you love fall.🍂🍁 In theory, I do too, it’s knowing what comes after it. Therein lies the problem.
I’m so sorry,but also I’m so happy!!Lol!
What???? Don’t even say it! 😆
JB I bet you smell mah-velous! 😃
I totally do!This is one of only 2 vetivers I really play nicely with, the other being Encre Noire. It’s a difficult note to me.
You think you can smell spring but I am SURE you are mistaken. I cannot smell any fall at all, despite being in Maine 🌞🌞🌞
I did not, sadly, get to try anything from Wick. My options to get to stores were limited — especially with a bored tween in tow, and so much to see in 4 days. Apartment and House of Gozdawa were all I could smell, in the end.
Good excuse for another trip?
106.5F on my patio yesterday. Ugh. All I want to wear is citrus in the heat so today is Pacifica Lime.
I hope you find a cool spot somewhere where you can relax.
Oooof, that’s HOT! Citrus is great in the heat; just keep spritzing!
At least you got the AC fixed!
Yes, thank goodness. I can’t imagine trying to sleep in these temps without a/c.
Holy cow! That is HOT!🥵
Wow.
Gah! 🔥🔥🔥🌡
Well, it’s still raining ( we had about 130mm in 24 hours) and if it wasn’t so dark it would be grey and gloomy. But, the good news is that the city is no longer cut off from the north and the roads are reopening and actually, it will be a great day. I have started a really cool gym program. It was started by a university academic studying the benefits of exercise for breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy and has expanded . It focuses on strength and mobility and ties in with the CP nicely. Sore muscles and Tiger Balm. That’s me.
So glad you found a fitness regime tailored for you.
Wow, that’s a lot of rain! I hope the sun comes out soon.
Enjoy your exercise regime! I haven’t smelled Tiger Balm in decades. I may need to find some – I loved that scent.
Oh good, what a great idea! And Tiger Balm — cp points for sure.
I saw some news footage of NZ weather on my local news recently. Looked scary!
Am having a look through my mini collection. Since I always forget they actually contain, you know, perfume, I am deciding which ones are worth putting into decant spray bottles. Already have decanted the Eau Sauvage, since I don’t in fact have a big bottle of it, and other candidates will be tested since I am at home today and won’t scare anyone.
I am guilty of neglecting my minis too, good luck with the project, very worthwhile.
I took two vitamin C tablets but still feel tired, not enough sleep last night. I was in Angel Muse edt, very bright and energising that one, tonight it’s Anaïs Anaïs, the smell of my teens. My bottle is in the shape of a flower pot. Smoothie is fresh 🍓 and banana 🍌 with yogurt.
Hope you get tons of sleep tonight Aurora!
Thank you Robin, last night was much better, hope you got tons of rest on vacation.
Not enough sleep twins, alas!
Hope you had a better night. We should rest like cats do.
I’m wearing Revolution de Fleur by Sana Jardin today – it has low projection, which is kind of what I’m in the mood for. (And it smells really nice!).
My COVID symptoms are now very mild – I had one day of fever. Mostly it’s just fatigue and a very infrequent cough or two.
That’s pretty much what I had with my Covid bout, glad to hear you’re not suffering too much.
Glad your symptoms are mild.
Good to hear you are doing well!
Glad to hear you’re on the mend.
Good to hear that things weren’t severe.
Hello, everyone!
SOTD is Hermes Eau des Merveilles 💛
Beautiful! I almost went with that today.
Always a fine choice! I happen to prefer the Elixir, but enjoy both.
I’m wearing La Luz Dulce de Leche today.I have an older roller ball I purchased in 2005.The notes are caramel and sweet milk blended with vanilla bean and maple sugar.
It’s a warm and sweet fragrance that is true to the name Does anyone else remember the La Luz perfume oils? I know there were other scents.
Ha ha, your scent is making me long for some ice cream. I believe Haagen Dazs makes Dulce de Leche ice cream, and it’s to die for. I’m not sure I could wear that scent without constantly wanting to go get ice cream!
You are absolutely right, although I don’t usually need any encouragement to run out for ice cream
I’m in Fleurs d’Oranger. Not finding any cumin (yet!), just jasmine and orange blossom.
I was up early and left my parents house in the beautiful north woods and drove back home. My house is not in too bad of shape, considering I left my h and adult son alone for 3 days.😳 They must have forgotten we have a mailbox though, lol.
I had a lovely visit with my parents. My mom and I worked on purging some more of their stuff, and I brought a trunk load back to goodwill. They have accumulated a lifetime of stuff and need help paring down. I love purging! So I am the perfect person to help.😆
I’ll do a few loads of laundry and then I’m traveling again tomorrow. The forecast couldn’t be looking any better. Thank you Mother Nature.🌞😎
Please come visit me and help me purge, too!
If you aren’t busy, I could be a client. Lots to go through!
My island sojourn was a solid fail so I’m back in town in a (ridiculously overpriced) hotel with A/C set to Artic Blast. It’s not too disappointing because who can be upset while basting in the breeze of a very cold A/C? T-Rex is enjoying the bed and belly rubs, then burrowing under the covers to keep toasty. “Friends” is on TV (which I never watched when it was actually on network TV) and we are quite chill.
Wearing Le Lion again because I enjoyed it so much yesterday. No one could be more surprised about that than me!
Stay cool peeps! It’s killing hot out there 🥵
Glad to hear that you & T-Rex are somewhere safe & cool.
I’m sorry the island visit wasn’t good.
Glad yoj are at least cool!
Kind of late today, one of those days when I don’t feel like moving much. I’m wearing Cow and it really is lovely. Living in a rural area, there are lots of cows and I swear I smell alfalfa and hay in here.
Now I want to smell this. Most enticing review.
There are about 15 farms, at least, within 10 minutes of me. I’m being conservative.
I’m lingering a bit longer over breakfast this morning. I’ve arranged to work in one of other buildings today to meet some colleagues in person, and it’s a much shorter walk. I could have just started earlier, but the person who is going to let me in doesn’t start till 8.30. One day, our access cards will work everywhere, I hope.
Meanwhile, I’m wearing Ashoka, and looking forward to dinner tonight with friends.
One day, you won’t need access cards and will happily retire.😊
Have a nice dinner!
SOTD = Valentino Uomo Intense EDP
Valentino really does great scents!
The rumor is true – I did not win MegaMillions. There’s always Friday, just sayin’ …
I got mail yesterday and opened it today. Well, my latest crop of clay stuff is to die for: a squirrel (it’s a first for me as long as I don’t count the finial from a long time ago) and 3 owls! I will feature these via IG!
You are branching out with your menagerie of critters! 🦉🦉🦉
I know, right? I couldn’t not get it! I even got 10% off my overall purchase.
I just realized that I had a really bad pun up there. Squirrel + branching out? That’s “Dad Pun” level bad.
I WON!
👏. I did not even get one penny. I got another $20 worth – you never know!
j/k. Thought you’d giggle.
I’m buying now, because you told me!
😲😲😲!
I’d lose the ticket.😂
I have a squirrel collection, looking forward to seeing your new critters!
No sign of Fall/Autumn here at all! It’s a nice mid-summer day with temps in the upper 80’s. The sun has been playing hide & seek this afternoon in puffy white clouds. The muggies aren’t out in full force, but I know they are lurking and plotting their return.
AnniePerfumes, if you are reading today, Teflon has not had that tooth pulled yet. It was discovered on Monday. She’s eating OK and not having any issues drinking enough water. The procedure is going to be expensive, so need to save up a bit before getting it taken care of. She was angry at me for the rest of Monday; going to the vet is super stressful for her. 😾
SOTD = Clinique Wrappings.
Just as you were saying that the sun was playing hide & seek, it’s exactly what’s happening now! You smell great in Wrappings.
Thanks!
Jalapeno!
Little Teflon will take it out on you a looooonng time. Nice to hear she is eating and drinking. I bet she 💩 on top of the litter.😊
Specialists really get you, don’t they? I’m thinking of starting something for little ones and their humans.
Thank you for the update. Teflon deserves a little extra catnip.🐱
Smelling beautiful!
Actually, Tef was my snuggle buddy last night and this morning. She’s a sweetie. And too smart for her own good sometimes.
However, Spooky kitty is the naughty one when it comes to litterbox shenanigans! She’s never “covered up the evidence”, even as a kitten.
Aww. Sweet forgiving girl. My cat took a lot of hours and treats.
Spooky sounds like my cat with the litter box. Litter flying everywhere! 💩 on top if I was in trouble. She was an angel, too, though.
Wearing Queen today, thanks to a decant from Coin-op. I smell cozy. Why did they discontinue this one!? The boozy note in here is more bourbon than scotch, but I prefer bourbon anyway.
Drinking Marco Polo tea to compliment it.
Always heard of this and never took advantage when I saw it at TJ’s.
Enjoy the tea!
I found a pretty old sample set box from Ormond Jayne and am revisiting some. Yesterday I tried Champaca, boring. Today I’ve got Zizan on my left arm (too much like some guy’s too-strong aftershave) and Osmanthus on my right arm. In the past I have purchased, and worn, Ta’if, Woman, and Tolu; Osmanthus would definitely be in contention for a future bottle. We have a slow steady rain here, which is rather nice and calming, and it helps us be somewhat cooler to have things overcast. We really need the rain, too.
PS: If you’re looking for something interesting to watch on Netflix, try Extraordinary Lawyer Woo. A friend recommended it to me. I was hesitant when I heard that the main character is a brilliant young woman lawyer with autism; autism stories seem to be overdone these days. However, it’s both charming and clever, and I am enjoying seeing some familiar Korean actors turning up in it here and there.
No Netflix here, but sounds great.
How’s rehab?
Thank you for asking. I go twice a week and have occupational (for my hand) and physical (for my leg) therapy back to back. I also have sets of exercises to do at home every day. It’s kind of tough work, but I believe it will help me, if I just try to keep up with it.
Good for you for keeping up with it! I hope you feel the fruits of your labor soon.💜
Joining the Le Lion crowd today and really enjoying it in the heat.
In other news, yesterday I felt like I was in that episode of Portlandia, “Put a bird on it” when I spent 45 minutes in my neighborhood perfume shop helping them usher a sweet little Finch back outside after it flew in and couldn’t find the open door.
Passersby looked mystified by the new window “displays” (one of us on all fours trying to trap it in a box and the other waving a broom to redirect it). The poor thing was so stressed and we were so relieved to see it take flight.
Yay for getting the little feathered visitor outside safely!
Coming back one more time to post my squirrel 🐿 ❤️

Adorable!
Cuuuute!
Very cute!!
I can’t get off the Eris love train. I’ve been wearing Night Flower for three days straight. Day 1, I was testing it out. Day 2, I tried something else for a few hours, scrubbed and went back to Night Flower. Today, wellll I was wearing Mx and a few hours later spritzed…Night Flower!
It’s super hot and ugh in the Not So Pacific North Wet right now, and Night Flower is standing up well to the shvitizing!
Ahem. Shvitzing, rather. Bubbe would not be pleased.
Yeah. So hot, and I’m such a weenie these days (I lived in the Midwest as a child so this should just be normal, but I’ve been here too long).
Trufax. I’m from Philly and when people say it’s humid here, I get all pedantic, “Let me tell you about this thing called the ‘dew point’”.
Now I’m just too hot for snark. No AC. Miserable.
Night Flower is really pretty.
