Wednesday scent of the day 6/29

Posted by Robin on 29 June 2022 110 Comments

It's Hump Day, National Camera Day, World Industrial Design Day and International Day of the Tropics. Birthdays: Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, Stokely Carmichael. What fragrance are you wearing?

I'm in roses from Dawn Spencer Hurwitz: Countess Olenska on one arm, and Rosé (a repeat from yesterday) on the other.

Reminder: on 7/1, Rabbit rabbit rabbit! It's July, and Canada Day. Also, International Reggae Day, National Gingersnap Day and International Joke Day. Birthdays: George Sand, Estée Lauder, Debbie Harry, Princess Diana. Pick an occasion (it doesn't have to be listed here!) and a fragrance to match, and tell us about it.

And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try (but obviously sometimes fail) to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

I went for something light today, so I’m just in some Amazing Grace body lotion.
Dropped my car off this morning to have the rear differential replaced. Whatever that is.😂 Covered under warranty thank gosh! They gave me a loaner this time because last time they paid for Uber which ran late and almost made me late for work. I told them that did not work for me, so loaner it is. It’s not the same model as I have, and it turns itself off at stoplights to conserve fuel I guess. It’s a bit unnerving,
    Happy hump day!😎

Pretty much all new cars do that now. It’s weird. Ours seems to do it sometimes but not always.

It is weird. If you have a Subaru, you may have a button on the touch screen where you can override it. (My h has an outback😉)

I have no idea what is a “rear differential” but I am enjoying considering whether a new one might suit me as well 😂

I was in the mood for something rich and complex and eighties so I’m in a couple of drops of the incensey Parfum d’Hermes extrait: if I had to choose a favourite scent in the entire history of perfumery, it would be this one, I think. (Thank goodness I have enough to last me the rest of my life.)

I’m in Kenzo Amour, from an old travel spray that’s gone off at the top, but quickly settles into the familiar scent. My favorite of this series is still the parfum version in the gold bottle, but this is nonetheless a nice way to start the day. I thought for sure the Indian Holi flanker would work best for me, because of the rice note, but it turned out to be too powdery.

Later, I might layer some Smell Bent Incensed over it, since I’ve acquired enough of it to last at least a decade…..

It is a shame Kenzo seems to have abandoned Amour, it was their best of recent times.

(But I have not been to smell the new Memori)

Agreed. The only other Kenzo I’ve ever loved (besides Amour Le Parfum) is L’Elephant, and that came out in the — gasp — nineties. I do have a bottle of Flower Oriental, but I rarely wear it.

Feels like there’s oceans of new perfumes to wear now that I switched out my winters for my summers. Completely forgot about some of them. This morning I am in Chronic by 19-69. My husband luuuuuurvs this one.

I’m off to an event this evening, a fundraising shindig for some legislation and policies. When I was young, this was par for the course. But I am feeling nervous and old this time around. I am going alone and it is in SF—I won’t know anyone. Probably will switch to a different perfume. Chronic’s notes of grapefruit, moss, and cannabis mightn’t work for establishing my analytic chops!

Slept a bit late and am in FK Aqua Celestia at the moment. I haven’t worn this in a while, and it’s reminding me of something that I can’t quite put my finger on — maybe Wood Sage and Sea Salt, even though they have very few notes in common. Tomorrow morning is my annual eye checkup, and frame shopping! I’ve never gotten used to my current frames (I get a mild shock every time I look in the mirror) and am dying to find some that suit my face better. Wish me luck! 👓

Actually getting to comment today and early at that! I should do this more often when I sit in morning calls where I’m not a required participant.

Wearing almost the last of my Tiger’s Nest decant and will probably reapply and finish it off later. I see a travel size bottle in my future if they’re still making those. We’re having cool enough weather for it, so it’s hitting the spot. Yesterday I wore Chergui after seeing talk about it when pyramus wore it on Monday. Oh, and I thunked a little decant that I’ve had for a long time. I still have another decant or two stashed away though.

Azemour for me today, as it was the first I pulled out of my plastic bag in the hotel washroom when I got up at 5:30 p.m. today. We’re in the midst of two overnight flights and had a day use room to after we arrived after the first flight to at least get 5 hours of sleep.

But we’re on the move, and (knocking on the wooden table now), it has been okay, except the airline not letting me check in online for our ultimate destination because the online system didn’t understand the visa requirements for that country, and then having to stand in line for two hours to check in at the airport.

It’s been a day of sunshine and showers, 20C at the moment.

I picked Fleurs d’Orlane this morning, in secret de parfum which must mean a glorified eau de parfum, anyway it stuck around for most of the day, it’s an old school floral, a little retro 80’s but that doesn’t bother me. This evening I sprayed Bal à Versailles vintage edp on a whim and it’s all I can smell, it’s a monster scent.

In CdG Green today because my AC is STILL not fixed and wearing fresh & cool scents seems to help. Probably just a placebo effect, but I’ll take it.

No tea today. Just cold, lime spindrifts with mint from the backyard. My mint plant usually does well, but this year it is turbo-charged! I might make some mint ice cream this weekend just to make a dent in it.

AND THEN NOTHING…. Mr. Vee has called them repeatedly and either gets vm or (empty) promises that the account manager will call us back in an hour with the quote. Finally called a different company this afternoon and they will be here tomorrow.

Not feeling very perfumye-today so I’m in BolsheVixen from SmellBent. It’s an oil in a small roller ball that a kind NSTer passed along to me. It’s soft and cuddly but still interesting. For whatever reason, I missed the SmellBent sale.

Got #1 of 2 shingles vax yesterday and holy Krakatoa, Batman! My arm is sore, and I have a nice red hot spot at the injection site along with muscle and joint aches. I heard #2 is even worse. Can anyone confirm? Better than getting shingles, I guess. I have to drive back over to Tacoma later today for an early morning MRI. I’ve had several, and never had a problem until the one I had last year. It took about a half an hour, I was in the tunnel up to my ankles, and the exam generated a lot of heat. The cherry on top was a very uncomfortable hot flash that seemed to last forever. I felt a little panic bubbling up but was able to breathe my way through it. Geez, I was really surprised by how much I hated it! MD offered me meds for this one, but I have to drive and then work later so that’s a no go. 🙄 Maybe the MRI will break down..?!

Happy Hump Day, and fervently wishing no one has an MRI in their future!

So I have had both shingles shots and shingles (the shots I got after I got shingles, but of course). 1) Shingles is worse than the side effects of the vaccine, by a long-shot. 2) For me, the side effects for the second shot were similar to the first, but at least I was prepared for them when they came. I actually took the day off from work because I ran a low fever and couldn’t stop shaking.

I’m with Oakland Fresca, I had shingles in my 30’s–no fun and extremely painful even in a very healthy young woman. I can’t image how i would cope now if I had them. Would not wish it on anyone (well…maybe a few political figures….but I digress). The shot is painful and it gave me a headache and fever in addition to a very sore arm…take it when you have a day or so to recover. Still better than shingles, trust me!

I’ve never had shingles, thank goodness, but yes, I was miserable after both shots (my teeth actually CHATTERED when the side effects kicked in after shot #2). A close friend who’s had shingles and is now vaccinated echoes what others have posted here: the shots are rough, but you DO NOT want the illness.

EL Tuberose Gardenia this morning. Two book recommendations if anyone is looking for something new: Lessons in Chemistry, by Bonnie Garmus, and for the sci-fi fans, The Kaiju Preservation Society, by John Scalzi (who wrote Redshirts, also worth reading if you haven’t already.) Plus, a new book from Elly Griffith’s Ruth Galloway series came out yesterday.

I’m uneducated about Lush products as their stores overwhelm me, even the kiosks inside other stores. Somebody put a decant of Lush Jilted Elf body spray in a swap package, I don’t remember who, but it smells really great. Like a spicy baked treat beside a vase of flowers, very nice. Feels comforting.

I’m wearing Keiko Mecheri Datura Blanche today because it’s a summer flower in my experience. I like each of the three versions of datura that I have—this plus the ones by MPG and Serge. This is probably the sweetest.

Yesterday I went for a checkup and my knee doctor said I’m doing ok but should consult a bone health specialist. I didn’t even know there was such a thing! They can even give you meds to help rebuild bones. This might help with my recent problem of breaking bones. So I’ve got an appointment with the specialist in two weeks. I’ll report on it later. I thought this might be useful information for some of the older folks among us.

I love my bone health specialist. 🙂 She’s began her practice as an ob/gyn, but switched specialties to give support to women who need help (endocrine, bone health, and so on) due to aging, cancer treatment, and other health challenges.

PSA, l’Artisan Parfumeur is having a summer sale, and they also have a free delivery code (DELIVERY22US). Sadly, the free delivery code does not work with samples (I had hoped to try a couple of le Potager), but I did snag a $21 travel spray of Passage d’Enfer 🙂

Wearing smell bent Never Never Land and thinking that a smell bent mini swap would be wonderful to participate in!

Not really…at all actually! Lots of incense and lily, but none of it at all smoky. It is one of my favorite scents 🙂

Well, I had to go look at the sale, and there’s a load of L’Artisan perfumes that I’ve never even heard of — I clearly haven’t been keeping up. The travel sprays seem like a bargain.

      Dangerous knowledge, Koyel!

However, I have blown thru this month’s and next month’s fun budget already. Smell Bent’s closing sale did some damage!

sotd = L’instant de Guerlain EdP

swoon! honey, yellow flowers, and sandalwood make me feel like I’m in heaven. I spritzed my wrists from a decant shared by a lovely NSTer quite some time ago.

It’s evaporated, of course, slightly viscous, and turned a deep red color. That’s some excellent jasmine in there. I’m seriously jonesing for a full bottle. Plus I’m lemming a sniff of Gieffeffe after reading the perfumed musings over at The Black Narcissus. The large sample size is not too much $$$.

Sigh. What’s a perfumed person to do . . . maybe make room in the perfume cupboard? 😉

Generally swanning about here today, hope everyone finds a moment of delight on this wonderful Wednesday.

I’m feeling overwhelmed and grumpy today. I’m hoping tomorrow on my day off to do some cleaning and cleaning out some more junk. Hours were cut at work again so my checks will be short all month.
My sotd is Mad Madame because it fit my mood. Jokes on me though, as the ambroxan is trying to kill me. After today it will officially go into the for swap drawer.

Running late today! Dunno why, b/c I wasn’t all that busy. But I did spend a bit of time painting today. 🎨

For those NSTers who are curious: an automotive differential is part of the drivetrain. It allows cars (and trucks) to make smooth turns. The advantages of having a bunch of auto mechanics in my family. 🚗

I never understood the concept of the drivetrain…isn’t the whole car essentially a drivetrain?

You probably think I’m kidding, and I’m only sorta kidding — I really don’t get it, and I really don’t want to know and wouldn’t remember later anyway 🙂

yay for painting, good for you! 😀 I try to do some painting every summer. Just silly stuff with acrylics, right now I’m painting mandalas on rocks.
