It's the weekend, at last. (And coming soon: the next damage poll, on 4 April, followed by the swapmeet on 23 April and the spring reading poll on 30 April.)
We've got 5 questions. As always, answer as many or as few as you like, or just talk about something else.
1. What fragrance are you wearing today?
2. What's the new fragrance you'd most like to test soon?
3. We won't do a spring viewing poll this year, but do tell us if you've discovered any great tv shows or movies recently? Or anything else fun you've been streaming?
4. What's blooming in your local area?
5. Share something wonderful with us! It can be anything — something delicious you ate, your latest coping strategies for stressful times, any fabulous news you recently received — really, anything.

Last call, for anyone who missed last weekend’s poll or my comment on Tuesday:
Reader Glannys, along with her mom and her cat, is safely out of Ukraine and now in a borrowed apartment in Malmö. A group of perfumistas is doing what they can to help her get established. If you’re able to help, see the instructions here:

Thank you for the reminder!
🙂
Vintage-ish Chanel Antaeus, leathery chypre warmth on a cool spring morning.
1. I’m commando and about to take a shower with Lush Posh Chocolate, which I finally got my hands on…
https://nstperfume.com/2021/10/25/the-daily-lemming-1152/
2. Clarissa raved about Clandestine Laboratories, and I figured I would forget all about them as I usually do with new niche brands (especially since I am already inundated with untried samples) but then Kevin raved about them too. I might have to investigate.
https://www.clandestinelaboratories.com/fragrances
3. I’ve just finished Gilded Age (fun enough, if nowhere near as fun as Downton) and am starting Bridgerton season 2 (ditto).
4. Crocus, some daffodils, some of the flowering cherry trees, forsythia. I am still waiting for the Narcissus Gay Tabor we planted last fall, and for the tuberose bulbs I ordered since Kevin assures me I can grow them in pots on my front porch.
5. I saw an orca off the Delaware coast yesterday! If i had not been on the phone with my husband and immediately turned on Facetime, he would not have believed me and I might not have believed it myself. Have never seen one here ever, and have been coming here my whole life.
Re #5, oh my gosh, that is so cool!
Gilded Age is on our list to watch too.
It was definitely a wow moment 🙂
I think they are going to do a season 2 of Gilded Age…hope it is a bit better. I did enjoy watching it, just not as good as it could have been.
A friend of mine said he saw them off the coast of New Jersey a couple of years ago, in early COVID. Glad to see they’re making an appearance out there!
Interesting, and after googling I do see people have been seeing them here for the past couple years. I have just not been so lucky!
How is the Lush shower gel? It looks so tempting but I just don’t know if I can justify it (although god knows I’ve probably spent more for less). If you tell me it’s fantastic I might just have to pull the trigger….
I think I spent $14 for a 100g tub, which is crazy. It is just like washing with chocolate Jello pudding made from the box — smell and consistency once it’s on a wet sponge — or cocoa mix, and I found that great fun. It might be the most realistically edible smelling chocolate product I’ve ever tried. Also in its favor: you don’t need much, assuming you’re using some sort of sponge.
So I really enjoyed it, do not regret it a bit, but not sure I’d quite go for “fantastic” given the price, and even though it’s thick in the tub so easy to scoop out what you want, I just don’t want to keep a product in a tub in my shower. It will be a one time splurge.
Also bought Mimosa shower gel and it smells more like the drink than the flower, but it’s very cheerful and I like that too.
St. Ives used to make two shower gels, vanilla and chocolate: the first smelled like creamy vanilla pudding and the second was like a pan of brownies. They were just ridiculously good, and for a ridiculously low price: not available in Canada, but I used to stock up every time we crossed the border to Maine. And if they were discontinued. Of course they were.
I might splurge a little on the Lush one, just once.
Ohhhhhhh, the St. Ives chocolate body wash! I remember how delicious that was. I used to drive to an Ulta 15 miles away because I couldn’t find it anywhere else. I never saw the vanilla, though.
Hmmm, Clandestine’s Ashes sounds sample-worthy indeed.
Wow to the whale! That is awesome.? One must use the whale emoji when one can.
Would you recommend Bridgerton over Gilded Age? My brother wants me to watch Gilded Age as he is watching it but I think Bridgerton would have more bang for the buck…so to speak… 😉
Bridgerton is sillier — like a mashup of Jane Austen plus bodice rippers. But they are both essentially examinations of the upper class marriage market.
So it depends on what you are going for! For pure silly, season 1 of Bridgerton was better than season 2, and in fact had more bang for the buck, so to speak 🙂
Oh my goodness Robin, that’s an incredibly exciting sighting!! I read somewhere that the seal population in the North Atlantic and near Cape Cod has rebounded thanks to the protection laws. So it makes sense more apex predators are around, including orcas and great whites.
Thanks for the link to Clandestine Laboratories; reading the “about us”, this sounds like a very intriguing house that seems to use quality materials and relatively less synthetics. If Kevin likes it with his aversion to iso e super, it makes me even more intrigued.
I should note that after trying them all Kevin seems to have downgraded his excitement…I probably spoke too soon!
I have never seen a seal off the Delaware coast, and in fact I read they are hunting dolphins, which I’m just going to not think about!
Update on Clandestine — tried six and only two appealed, Tilia and Vert, but I can live without them. Each time I wore the scents they smelled different.
RIP Taylor Hawkins.? Heard the news shortly after I got up this morning. What a shock. Another musician of my generation- younger than me actually- gone too soon. It’s terrible. We saw the Foo Fighters here in 2017 when they were touring. They played for 3 hours, 23 songs followed by a 4 song encore. We definitely got our money’s worth. Taylor always looked like he was having such a great time drumming.
Now, onto the poll:
1. Fleur de Peau, which I foolishly picked up by the cap and promptly dropped on my hardwood floor. Luckily it did not break. Thanks for all the Iris suggestions yesterday.
2. Not new, but I’d like to test Love & Crime. I also have yet to test Gris Charnel.
3. We currently have 3 TV series going: Band of Brothers, Reacher and the new season of Miss Maisel. I know, what a hodgepodge. Last weekend we re-watched the first Harry Potter movie before my college girl went back to school and that was a fun watch. I can honestly say it’s the first time I’ve watched it in its entirety. In typical mom fashion, I’ve usually tried to multi task while the kids watched it.
4. Nothing! We have snow flakes this morning and temps in the 30’s.?
5. We are going to our first concert since 2019 next month! Taking the girls to see Wolf Alice. On a school night and everything, lol. I’m really looking forward to it!?
Jealous of your nr 5!!LOVE Wolf Alice!
Enjoy enjoy and please report how they are live!
??✌?
He was only 50!
https://www.nytimes.com/2022/03/25/arts/music/taylor-hawkins-foo-fighters-dead.html
Thank goodness the bottle didn’t break!
That is so sad. We are from the same generation and the earlier Foo Fighter’s music always reminds me of my fun, younger years. R.I.P.
Love Wolf Alice. Blue Weekend is a great album.??
Busy week — have been lurking and not posting or wearing much. Lots of 7 a.m. meetings, even on my vacation day yesterday (sigh).
1. I’ll be commando until tonight most likely, since we’re skiing today.
2. Not that new, but Synthetic Jungle.
3. I’m so bad with TV! We’re trying to get through Borgen, which we started probably a year ago and I loved but we just stopped watching, as I’m not much of a TV watcher. We came back to it, but now I’m so frustrated with Philip and how he’s intersecting with some annoying politics my spouse is living through at work that I need to take another week or so off.
4. Cherry trees (just), daffodils (in sunnier spots), forsythia.
5. We finally got the missing parts to install the panels on our refrigerator doors, so our reno (may) be done in the next week…only 11 months after it started.
I just adored Borgen when I first saw it, but tried to rewatch in anticipation of the new season, and found after more recent political events I just could not bear it. Some day, knock on wood.
VERY good luck, I am sure you want the reno to be totally done and dusted!
Skiing? How exciting for you.
And everything is blooming, too!
1. IA Fox in the Flowerbed and I love it!
2. I will be testing Dame Perfumery’s Cassis, Rose and Sandalwood Eau de Toilette and Montale’s Rose Elixir
3. I got nothing.
4. Not much. Still pretty cool in the Midwest.
5. Our taxes are finally done!
HOORAY for the taxes!!! Such a nice feeling.
AMC’s doing a binge of Breaking Bad on Saturdays till the premiere of Better Call Saul in mid April. It’s flurrying & dreary here, so pretty sure I’ll catch some of Walt and Jesse, yo.
In Iris Cendre, incense seems appropriate on a chilly day.
1.Tauer Phi une rose de Kandehar…I’ve got about 5mls left from a generous NST-freebie many many moons ago,and I’ll be sad when it’s finished.
2.I have a friend muling some Marissa Zappas samples from NY,and cannot wait to get my schnozzle on them.Annabel’s Birthday Cake sounds fun.
3.I tried to watch Euphoria season 2,but it’s just disturbing to me,not recommended.
4.Fall has landed,I try not to look…
5.I acquired another Noush sculpture,if anyone wants to see the work of dutch designer Manoushka Kraal, she’s on Insta;Noush Projects.
Happy weekend kids!
XO’s
This keeps happening to me,was supposed to be my own post…urgh.??♂️??♂️
Oh my gosh, VERY sorry I looked at those sculptures!
They are fun,aren’t they??
I did not know they were doing another season of Better Call Saul! My husband will be very happy.
SOTM is Armani Cuir Amethyste, courtesy of a very kind NSTer. It has characteristics similar to two or three other things in my little collection but also has its own unique personality, which I like very much. Turning to the rest of the poll:
2. Nothing really new is calling out at the moment. I retested Memo Sicilian Leather a couple of days ago and swooned. ?
3. I’ve been streaming House recently — so far I haven’t succumbed to hypochondria as to myself, but one episode may have explained my cat’s final illness many years ago. (It involved termites and was a very yucky episode, and I won’t go into further detail.) Oh, and we watched a fascinating documentary last night called My Octopus Teacher.
4. I hear the cherry and plum trees downtown are in bloom, but the cherries in our yard are just getting started budding. Our daffodils and the neighbor’s hyacinths and plum trees are blooming beautifully.
5. Well, let’s see … I get to go visit my mom and dad in a couple of weeks. This trip was originally set for February, but then both of them got omicron (mild cases, thank goodness) and we postponed.
We loved My Octopus Teacher. Wonderful.
It was, but did you worry about the poor man’s sanity at times? I did.
Yes–agree, but I was also stressed by how long he was underwater without coming up for air. I do realize there were breaks in filming when he went up for air that they did not show, but even so…
YES…loved it, but yes.
Also watched Octopus Teacher and loved it. And yes, he is a bit touched as they say. 😉 I find anyone doing a documentary about animals is often a bit on the cusp.
1. I am wearing Black Orchid today.
2. I can’t think of anything new that I want to test right now. I did recently test NR Musc Noir Rose. It didn’t call my name.
3. I am not watching anything right now. Soon though I will be watching Baseball.
4. Snow bloomed here overnight.
5. My niece is expecting her second child! Very exciting.
I love Black Orchid. You smell wonderful ? I think I will wear it tomorrow.
Happy for you there will be a new addition to the family.
Sorry about #4, yay for #5!
Yay for #5! I have niece news as well!
LOL about #4. 🙂
Hello and happy weekend!
1. Sotd is Jadore L’Or. Almost went for Shalimar MVP.
2. Still need to test Zoologist Cow but there’s still no news about when my local shop will have it.
3. Need to watch Bridgerton S2 and CODA on Apple TV+, apparently it can win some Oscars.
4. Cheery trees and daffodils are blooming. Amusing story about daffodils: Because I love them so much I called my mum last month saying she should plant some in her garden. She replied that she tried planting some before but not a single one bloomed and she was left with a patch of “green onions/ scallions”.
5. Nothing much happened recently but I always say “No news is good news”. So I am happy.
Love Black Orchid. I think I will wear it tomorrow. You smell wonderful ?
Oops. I meant that to be for Lillyjo.
No news is indeed good news.
I’m testing Zoologist Cow today and I’m interested to know your thoughts after you try it. For me it’s a hearty like at first sniff but it mellows to these creamy musks that smell great but not unique. I’ll definitely drain my sample.
1. Dr Teal’s Lavender Lotion nice scent for nice price
2. Cherry Punk and probably various other scents I haven’t kept up with/heard about
3. Definitely not the new Matrix..lol
4. Mountain Laurel trees..I think that’s what they are? Lol
5. Opal Apples..they are the best.
Oh what a coincidence! I just got an unsolicited sample of it from Ministry of Scent (fka Tigerlily)! I will test it tomorrow.
Nice looking forward to your thoughts on it:)
1. Today I’m wearing Anna Sui Dolly Girl.
2. Nothing is coming to mind, though there must be something!
3. We had a free trial of Apple TV recently, so we finally got to see Ted Lasso, which I loved. On the suggestion of my sister-in-law, we also watched Trying, about a British couple trying to conceive, and it was really good too. On the movie front, I enjoyed Fresh, a horror comedy on Hulu. Not for everyone!!!!
4. Not much blooms where I live! There’s a tree here in New Mexico that causes pretty bad allergies for some people, including me, so I’m dreading that.
5. I’m not in a great place mentally right now (still having a hard time finding a job), but one nice thing was when I was reading a really good book on the couch and our kitten was sleeping on my feet. It was cozy!
#5 what line of work are you looking for, if you don’t mind answering?
Kitten cuddles are the best. Hope you find a great job asap!
1. What fragrance are you wearing today?
Rose Barbare. Testing the new bottle against an old one, because someone on FB said they were different. I smell virtually no difference.
2. What’s the new fragrance you’d most like to test soon?
Crossing fingers that Nordies gets a tester asap for the new Byredo De Los Santos. Why do companies ship stock with no tester? How do they expect to sell anything?
3. We won’t do a spring viewing poll this year, but do tell us if you’ve discovered any great tv shows or movies recently? Or anything else fun you’ve been streaming?
No TV for me, so I got nothing.
4. What’s blooming in your local area?
My wisteria are gorgeous!
5. Share something wonderful with us! It can be anything — something delicious you ate, your latest coping strategies for stressful times, any fabulous news you recently received — really, anything.
Just received the 2022 edition of Guerlain Muguet and the bottle is gorgeous. 🙂
It used to be if a store didn’t get sent a tester that they would debit out a bottle and make one. I don’t know why they don’t do that anymore. My Ulta has a few new perfumes in but no way to smell them. It’s irritating.
Congrats on that gorgeous bottle! Do you have the previous editions?
Yes, why can’t they open a box and make a tester? Because otherwise people might buy it blind then return it. What a waste.
I did have an earlier edition of Muguet, about 10 years ago, but it’s all gone. Been wanting another for a while, and this year’s bottle was so pretty I decided this was the year.
Twins for #2! I’d love to smell De Los Santos.
They just got the tester, going to smell it tomorrow and will report back.
Congrats on #5. That bottle is something else!
It is really lovely!
Yay for your Guerlain! It is a beautiful bottle this year.
Heh, I have Rose Barbare up the wazoo! I got it from the fountain at Saks and I also got the remaining 30mLs as a gift.
Glad to know about Rose Barbare! I have a decant which is probably from an old bottle which I am liking a lot, so contemplating a FB at some point.
Uh oh, the damage poll…
1. Remnants of yesterday’s Cadjmere. Maybe Ivoire later.
2. Masque Terralba! And anything by Rogue Perfumery.
3. In the middle of the most recent season of Mrs. Maisel
4. I saw some crocuses starting to come up. It’s grey and dreary here.
5. This will be the year of home improvement. I’m getting my bathroom done, and a new sliding glass balcony door installed. No more perfume until it’s all paid for!
I honestly can’t remember the damage. I have to go through my email for receipts. Always seem to buy at least one that puts me in the naughty range.
Hello all and happy Saturday!
1. I’m wearing Shalimar MVP.
2. I don’t have anything on my to test list but I think would like to add 25 Obscuratio to my collection (I’m about to finish my small decant from Hajusuuri’s split and have enjoyed every single drop).
3. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 4 (loved it just as much as the other three seasons).
4. Azaleas, daffodils, eastern redbud, dogwood.
5. My husband and I took our ten year old twin godsons to a bike shop today to buy them new bikes. They were very excited.
You smell great
Thank you, Yasmina!
I love 25 Obscuratio and it is also in my full bottle shopping list. What a gorgeous scent!
I see it’s available at Saks. Maybe we can pull the trigger next time they are having a promotion on beauty items.
Does it remind you of another perfume (possibly from the 80s or 90s)? I feel like I’ve smelled something very similar but can’t put my finger on it.
When I tried it for the first time, it brought memories of my teenage years. However, I cannot remember exactly the specific smell. It is definitely from the 80’s.
I thought I saw your L’Artisan at a discounter. Worth a look!
Hello all!
1) SOTD is California Snow from A Lab on Fire. Suits my Sonic Youth sweatshirt and jeans vibe.
2) I really want to sniff De Los Santos from byredo.
3) Not watching anything at all.
4) Everything is blooming here. It’s absolutely beautiful. I feel terrible for everyone with pollen allergies though.
5) My family and I are meeting up in Halifax at the end of June! None of us have ever been there. It will be the first time we’ll be able to hug each other since 2019. Soooo excited.
I’m so happy that you will finally be able to see your family!
Hooray for #5!
Yay for number 5! Nordies just got their Byredo tester. 🙂
1. Navitus
2. Some new Tom Fords
3. Inventing Anna, Drive to Survive, WeCrashed
Reading Pachinko
Novel by Min Jin Lee before watching the series
4. I see some green shoots popping up
5. Buying lots of lipsticks and makeup pallets these days. Have my new Nespresso foamer and love ? it. Did some retail therapy at consignment shop yesterday
I broke down and bought a Tom Ford lipstick after getting a sample one.
Ask me if I can find it.
Any good finds at the consignment shop?
which color?? Tom Ford makes great lipsticks
Yes, a pair of Etro jeans, in a electric blue color and a summer off the shoulder top but a designer I can’t remember
Casablanca. Its a little bolder than I normally wear, but it is perfect.
Nice. You scored!
Dear AnnieP-I love LOVE Casablanca!!!
I find this color goes with just about everything I wear 🙂
Please let me know how you like the book. I have had it forever, but have not read it yet.
So far so good! I will keep you posted
I loved Pachinko. I didn’t realize that they were making in into a TV series…but then, I’m just not really a TV person, as much as I try. I’m probably good with having read the book.
Happy International Epilepsy Awareness Day! Or Purple Day, if you like!??? Wear a little purple if you can, please!
1. Perfume: Purple Haze, 19-69. Delicious patchouli and Purple!
2. Still hunting for the elusive Honeysuckle Splash from Estée Lauder.
3. I’ve been watching Lost, since I missed it when it first aired. I’m only on season 3. I keep calling Jack, ‘Charlie’, because Matthew Fox played Charlie on Party of Five.?
4. I think daffodils are sprouting. And chipmunk holes.?
5. I’ve had great support for Purple Day! Even though it is hard and uncomfortable to share, I’m grateful for the friends that aren’t afraid and support me and all other epileptics.
A close family member passed away this week and another family member I am closer with tip-toed around my request to join them traveling for the funeral. I offered different ways I could meet up with him that wouldn’t be inconvenient. Normally, I would be so hurt. I know why. Purple day. It feels great to wish him peace and let him go. I’ll still be nice, but detach, if that makes sense.
Exhilarating.
Sorry for you loss.
Tell me more about this Estée Lauder…
Thank you. He was a very gentle man.
Swooning over this long discontinued Honeysuckle. It was pure and the absolute best I have ever smelled. This fragrance has haunted me for 20 years.
Condolences ?. The EL Honeysuckle sounds lovely nothing like a good honeysuckle. The first perfume I purchased for myself was Tuscany Per Donna, which smells similar to Samsara to me. Such a good scent. I have a friend with epilepsy. It is from an injury while serving in the military. Luckily, my friend does well with treatment.
Thank you. I love Samsara. I savor every drop. Tuscany Per Donna sounds up my alley, then.
I’m sorry about your friend. Being controlled is a wonderful feeling, what a Blessing!
So sorry about your loss. Boo hiss on the other family member – I don’t understand why he would be hesitant despite Purple Day.
Thank you.
I’m having a harder time reconciling the idea I’m still not good enough. He ignored my request about Purple Day-and my request about the hospital his partner works at. It really, really hurts.
I don’t trust myself to drive that far.
And thank you for being one of my biggest cheerleaders! It means so much how you root for me (and, well, everyone).?
I am sorry for your loss, and for the hurtful response to your request. That sucks, but your attitude is just right. Sending purple day hugs!
I’m sitting on the couch eating Sunday morning porridge, still smelling last night’s Harem Soiree. Arte Profumi has done quite a few things I like, which is unfortunate given the prices.
There are always many things I want to try, one particular recent release is Eris’ Scorpio Rising.
TV-wise, we continue to watch older things. We are alternating between Poirot, the fabulous Davud Suchet series, and early CSI. We watched the new CSI Vegas, which we thought hit the spot, and have started watching the first series from episode one – they all look so young!!
As we’re heading into autumn, there are not so many flowers here, but there is a fabulous display of blue morning glory all over the trees next to us. It’s a weed, but what a beautiful weed 🙂
I’m hoping to visit my mother shortly, once the Omicron peak passes.
David Suchet’s portrayal ruined me for any other Poirot pretender. ?
Also love David Suchet!
No scent yet as I have been cooking all morning to prepare for dinner party. I’m such an anxious hostess and always regret inviting anyone in the middle of the prep — although I don’t regret it after they come. I wish I could just worry less about having enough food or a clean enough house etc etc
We are watching Downtown and new Bridgerton. Just finished Egyptian Netflix series Finding Ola, which made me homesick.
No real new perfume desires here! I have so much already
Enjoy your dinner party!
Thank you! It went well and now tons of leftovers too!
1. What fragrance are you wearing today?
Montale Jasmin Full. It smells almost exactly like Lush Lust.
2. What’s the new fragrance you’d most like to test soon?
I don’t really keep up with what’s new. I am looking forward to going to Fumerie later this spring and sniffing stuff.
3. We won’t do a spring viewing poll this year, but do tell us if you’ve discovered any great tv shows or movies recently?
I have not seen a newly-released movie since 2019….I started the new season of Mrs. Maisel but I’m not far into it.
4. What’s blooming in your local area?
Forsythia, daffodils, grape hyacinth, cherry and plum trees, and something orangey-pink in my neighbor’s yard.
5. Share something wonderful with us! It can be anything — something delicious you ate, your latest coping strategies for stressful times, any fabulous news you recently received — really, anything.
I used to run and race a lot in my 30’s and 40’s but I sat down around 2002. The pandemic got me outside again and in decent shape, so I registered for a 5K on Memorial Day weekend. I’m pretty happy about it.
Good for you getting out and back to running!
You gave a giggle with the ‘sat down’.
I am pretty sure I would like Jasmin Full. I love BWFs.
I own lots of jasmines and Jasmin Full is one of the Biggest. Lasts all day, too.
Yay for your 5k!
Good for you on the 5k! I have a cycling challenge coming up in September I’m preparing for.
Happy Saturday!
1. I’m in You or Someone Like You. Nice for spring. ?
2. Anxious to try: nothing really on my list, but I just saw an email from Ministry of Scent, about Himitsu (Regime des Fleurs) by Dominique Ropion. Ummm, lemming!
3. I’ve been watching the first season of Stanley Tucci’s Searching for Italy. I want all the recipes, all the wine and to see all the sights.
4. I’ve seen some bluebonnets just starting to bloom!
I recently listened to the audiobook of Stanley Tucci’s Taste, which he narrates. I am a nonfiction “reader” and wanted a non-serious apolitical lighthearted read with a good narrator (kind of a unicorn in audiobookworld) and it really fit the bill.
My husband and I also watched Big Night, which he’d never seen and I’d not seen since it was in theaters in 1996.
I’m torn about Taste! I’d like to hear Tucci’s voice in the audiobook, but since there are recipes involved, I’d really like to get the physical book.
I didn’t see Big Night, but did see A Midsummer Night’s Dream. He was wonderful in that one.
Last week’s People featured Stanley Tucci on its cover. Actually, I’ve noticed there are usually 2 different covers for the same issue.
I read that story! I never knew he had a bout with cancer.
1. SOTD = baking. Made cranberry orange scones earlier, and now I have cookie dough chilling in the fridge (Dorie Greenspan’s Espresso Chocolate Sables). It’ll be ready to bake in an hour.
2. Want to test Edward Bess’s Kiss The Sky. Dunno how, though; I emailed his customer service and didn’t get any reply at all. Boo hiss.
3. Still stuck in our TCM rut. This past week, we watched “The Sting”, “Tootsie”, “Lost Horizon” (the original), “In Name Only” (Cary Grant and evil Kay Francis), and “Reputation” (Bette Davis’s first Oscar). Also recently finished watching The Expanse. I’m gonna miss the character of Chrisjen Avasarala the most, I think. You just know she wore enough perfume to fill a stadium.
4. Got a few daffodils blooming. Not a good showing this year; maybe the ongoing drought? But my hummingbird sage is going to town. I have some plants with hot pink flowers and others with pale yellow.
5. Good stuff: rain coming tomorrow! And I am enjoying watching our hummingbirds. We are mobbed this year… or maybe it’s just migration season, I don’t know, but at dusk we are getting 10+ birds at a time all vying for seats on our 5-perch feeder. We have about 95% Anna’s and 5% Allen’s. I’ve been hearing the Allen’s (they have a very buzzy flight sound) but not seeing them til this week when they started visiting the feeder. They are super aggressive little guys 🙂
We watched The Sting last night. I am not much of a fan of either Redford or Newman and I can’t say it did much to sell me on either, but the 70s is my least favorite film decade, so kind of a tough sell all-around. I did see Redford recently in Three Days of the Condor and quite liked the film and him in it, however.
What fun to be able to watch your hummingbirds! There is a david attenborough film about them that’s available on amazon, iirc, with tons of super slo-mo footage of them, which is astounding and quite mesmerizing.
The 70s were a rough time for movies, Star Wars not withstanding.
Aww… some of my all time favorites are from the 70’s
The Godfather 1 and 2 Rocky 1 and 2.. Grease! Lol
American Graffiti.
But yeah…. there was a lot of cheesy ones too.
I looked up those cookies and they sound wonderful!
Your baking sounds yummy! I love the buzzy hummingbirds.
1. Caron Aimez-Moi
2. Vanagloria
3. No TV for me
4. Daffodils and cherry blossoms
5. I just finished a class on No 5 with Victoria.
Nice! I missed the class on Iris and she said I can take another class. I have been too busy on Saturdays but as with anything, I have to make the time.
You will enjoy it I’m sure, I loved the hands down approach with all the ingredients.
1. Wearing SL Iris Silver Mist.
2. Nothing really comes to mind that I would like to try now. I am very grateful for several samples that I received from some NSTers recently and happily Scorpio Rising was one of them. I really like it and still not sure if it is full bottle worthy for me. I need to give it another try soon.
3. No time for tv or reading. I barely have time to get some sleep these days.
4. In full bloom now in my are are forsythias, crocuses and daffodils. Magnolias, hawthorns and azaleas buds are slowly trying to open. The temperature will drop to the 30s and 40s next week, so I hope all those beautiful flowers do not freeze and die like it has happened before.
5. Iris day for me today! The big blue iris bouquet that I had ordered for Valentine’s day was canceled because the florist didn’t have enough flowers to fulfill my order. I was very frustrated at that time. However, early this morning on my trip to Trader’s Joe’s, I found bunches of blue and white irises, my favorites! I grabbed all of them. Now, I have a huge beautiful iris arrangement in my living room that I am enjoying greatly and it is much cheaper than the bouquet I had ordered from the flower shop. I will also have some of the iris liquor tonight! Small pleasures that put a very big smile on my face and heart!
Happy and healthy weekend, everyone! ????
I know what you mean about #5 – I found some really nice daffodils (one of my spring favorites – along with pansies ;D) at the grocery store for a great price and grabbed several bunches. It really is little things that help.
I have been grabbing flowers from TJ and grocery shops lately. An affordable way to play with different arrangements and enjoy them. I usually mix daffodils with yellow Billy Balls. I love the burst of the bright, lively yellow variety! ?
Great idea, thanks. The yellow is so cheerful.
Iris liqueur-how interesting.
It is a very nice aromatic herbal, floral liqueur. I slightly get the rooty aspect of the iris. Very tasty on its own or when used in cocktails.
I vote name change to Iris.?
I would love to! ?
You smell wonderful! I keep meaning to get out my Iris Silver Mist, but then it’s been dreary and busy and I’m just not in the mood for it. This week, perhaps!
Love the iris bouquet! I miss Trader Joe’s, probably most of all the things about living in the US.
Hooray for #5! I bet the iris arrangement looks beautiful. Do tell us more about the iris liquor!
Your flowers sound absolutely beautiful.
Your flowers sound so beautiful! And of course you were smelling fabulous.
The little things are so important. Love iris!
On call, got waked up at 1:00 am. Ugh. Now it is 5:30 pm and I am finally waking up. I mean, I have up and moving. But not AWAKE, you know?
So wearing my pleasant blind buy Chic et Boheme, while also wearing some tie-dyed sweatpants, a red chennille bathrobe and my keep my ears warm at all costs Hunter’s hat with the big ear flaps- so I am fails at the Chic, but taking a stab at the Boheme, I guess.
Ha! After being conservative with heating, have you noticed a big difference in your heating bill?
Oh, we have no heating bill. The furnace is not hooked up to the propane right now, so a 300 lb tank of propane for the cook stove and the clothes dryer, last 3 or 4 we years. This annoys the propane company no end. We talk about getting a solar array and doing away with propane altogether, but we haven’t researched the details yet. We live frugally, sort of, and I indulge my love of perfume, and adorable hubby acquires electronica and farm machinery of various sorts.
I wish I could get my husband on board with turning the heat down. He whines when it goes below 72.
1. Smellin’ fine in L’Initial today
2. Someone recommended the Reminiscence Gourmandes collection and I have never tried any of these but they are cheap as chips on the discounter sites so I am contemplating some blind buys
3. Watching the last season of Killing Eve with some Agatha Raisin and My Life Is Murder thrown in for good measure
4. Everything seems to be blooming in San Diego and the orchids in my kitchen window have buds. ☀️ I have kept them alive (somehow) for 3 to 4 year now and they bloom once a year or so.
5. My sister’s birthday is today! ? Her scan from St. Patrick’s Day came back negative and she has a follow up appointment w/ her oncologist on Monday. She wants that damn port out. 🙂 ?? Thanks for all the well wishes from this caring and fragrant community.?
Happy birthday to your sis! Really happy to hear about her negative scan and hoping that port comes out soon.
Glad to hear the good news about your sister! A good reason for a much happier birthday celebration! ?
I have been thinking of getting this Guerlain once I finish Philtre — I think they are close
Happy Birthday to your sister!
So happy for you and your sister!
Happy Birthday to your sister and yay for #5!
What wonderful news for your sister. A great birthday present indeed.
I salute you for being able to keep orchids happy.
I hope your sister has the most wonderful day and a brilliant year ( and the port comes out soon). Have a happy week!
Happy birthday to your sister! I recently got Reminiscence Dragée and Guimauve, both yummy.
Getting toes done.
SOTD is One of my top five
TF Shanghai Lily.
Will test TT Ursa tomorrow.
Want to try the Byredo as well.
Everything in bloom in Sunny So Cal
Zyrtec time
Watching The Dropout, We Crashed, and all of Bad Vegan yesterday.
Watched Out of Africa last Sunday evening with my sister on separate coasts. We were texting the words before the baroness and Denys even said them.
Zyrtec time — that will be here soon!
I love Out of Africa and have also memorized most of the dialogues. Some day I would like to see it on a big screen again.
Took care of 1 and 2 by going to Dawn’s studio and sniffing and sampling a bunch of the Upcycle releases. I ended up buying Clouds of Flowers which is a pillowy spring floral.
4) Crocuses are blooming near me which means that there is also pollen around to aggravate my husband’s allergies
5)My husband and I went to a really good tapas restaurant last night. Also, while our local favorite farmer’s market doesn’t open until May, the Boulder one opens next Sat
I have been to that studio once – it felt magical
I need to visit Dawn’s studio some day!
1. In Diptyque Olene for a burgeoning Spring.
2. I’m curious about Clandestine and would like to sample the line.
3. Looking forward to watching Above Us Only Sky about John and Yoko
4. Daffodils smell so good.
5. Boring mammogram results! I love it when they say, in effect, “See you next year.”
Yay for #5!
I’m still waiting on mine.
The waiting is the worst part. I hope you hear good news very soon:)
Olene is lovely..was that discontinued? I forget.
Congratulations on your mammo results! And for going.
1. Omnia, the original.
2. Hera and Spell 125 from Papillon.
3. Made that giant leap into the 21st Century by watching Schitt’s Creek. I find it, by turns, hilarious and annoying.
4. Red Buds, I think
5. 6 more shifts until freedom.
#5 Woo hoo!
Still haven’t watched Schitts Creek so you are way ahead of me.
Sch$tt’s Creek is one of the funniest comedies I’ve caught. My nurse buddy introduced me to it because she just needs to laugh when she is home. It keeps getting better. I bought her Rosebud’s Body Milk for her birthday. ?
Yay for #5!
1. SOTD = Lush Fresh As – Grape flavored Bubble Yum with lime dust!

2. Papillon Hera, possibly from a humongo sample
3. Eh
4. Cherry Blossoms (but why is it a few doors down from a house with Christmas decorations still up – 3 sparkly deer on the front lawn, a snowman that was horizontal and some Christmas greenery on the front porch)
5. The upcoming Macy’s Flower Show coming soon!
And here’s my caturday post:

Also…
Another #5 – One of my nieces got engaged today! They have a wedding date for later this year. We met the fiancé on Christmas – nice guy!
Congratulations to them!
Thank you!
Nice, congrats!
You must smell purfect! What a ? erday!
I have two glittery reindeer still. up. I put everything else away, but forgot about them.
Tomorrow!
?
See how well I’ve tried not to judge? LOL
Because I am perfume peeps.?
Mmm grape bubble gum with lime dust? Interested. Lol:).
My nose could be broken but I smells what I smells 🙂
I guess the snowman and deer are just wishing to provide a warm welcome to the Easter bunny and score some chocolate eggs?
Or it’s an early start to this Christmas. I had a sudden thought that maybe I should knock on the door and find out if they’re ok. ?
???
You checked on me. I’m better.
We are still seeing a few Xmas decorations! And we went for an evening walk last week and saw a discarded Xmas tree on the street…I think that’s the latest I’ve ever seen one.
I’m with you on #2, congrats on 5b!
1. Natori. I forget how lovely this one is. Like Coco Mademoiselle’s softer, plummier cousin. I usually save it for date nights or going out….but those dont really happen these days so am living in the moment.
2. I saw something about a new Narcisco. So that one.
3. Nothing new visually, but I’ve been listening to the audiobooks written and narrated by Dan Jones. War of the Roses, the Plantagenets, The Magna Carta. I love listening to history books. I do listen to them when i am awake, but also I listen to them to go to sleep at night. Dan Jones has a great voice, and when i looked him up online, turns out he is good looking too!
4. The city is at its height of cherry blossoms. So pretty.
5. I finally took a few days off from work, and am going to spend tomorrow with some college friends. We usually hang out all day when we see each other, so looking forward to another friend-a-thon.
Enjoy your time with your friends!
Hope it is a fun friend-a-thon nebbe!
I do no. 3 to go to sleep too. :-). Have fun with your friends!
This weekend I’m in Splendiris (yesterday) and Ilio (today)
https://www.instagram.com/p/CbkKhGpj718/?utm_medium=copy_link
I love Ilio. It’s very happy smelling!
Very nice, all around!
Scent of the Sunday!
Olfactive Studio Iris Shot. It’s pretty, just wish the rooty iris note stayed around a bit longer.
I preferred the Violet Shot, imagine that for an iris lover. Hope you’re doing well!
Oh I need to smell Violet shot.
I’m on the very far drydown with Iris Shot now,it’s pretty well done I must say.
Hey J B! I tried the Kayali Sweet diamond pink pepper yesterday. I really liked it. Have you tried it?
Lol…I did test it in store,it’s the only one I did not like enough to invest money in!Haha!
I have the rest all in 10mls,a dual rollerball of the Musk and Vanilla, and I got Deja Vu White Flower in the hair mist(I’d like a 10ml perfume of it as well)
Glad you found one you really liked!
Well I also tried the Utopia vanilla Coco and liked that one too. I want to get one during the sephora sale. That way we can at least be house twins someday. Lol ?
Yay!We shall plan accordingly!?????
I love that one, plus Violet and Rose Shot.
1. I am testing Feve Deliciouse and liking it. It has a similar resinous base as Shalimar MVP (which is heavenly) and I get a lot of cherry and cocoa in the opening, other than the tonka and the vanilla.
2. What’s the new fragrance you’d most like to test soon? Hera Papillon.
3. I am very much looking forward to the new season of Better Call Saul. It is a fantastic series, based on really compelling characters and a really well written script. Love Bob Odenkirk, the lead actor.
4. What’s blooming in your local area? Narcissus and tree blossoms.
5.I am retaking birdwatching which has been a passion of mine since my twenties and haven’t done as much as I would like to in a while. Yesterday I spent the day in a marshland watching a number of species starting the breeding season.
Fellow birdwatcher here. While I was on holiday I was lucky enough to visit a small inland lake where grebes were nesting. Do you have crested grebes there?
https://nzbirdsonline.org.nz/species/australasian-crested-grebe
How exciting, Kanuka! You must have amazing fauna around there, with your coastland and preserved natural areas. Of the ones I know, I would particularly love to see keas and kiwis- are they very hard to spot?
We have great crested grebes too and saw several yesterday. They are not threatened around here and they are relatively easy to spot, but they are nevertheless a very beautiful bird! They were growing their summer plumage and didn’t have the full blow crests yet, when they are mating they do a dance together! Also saw little grebe which is very cute https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Little_grebe and a number of breeding ducks of many species, a couple of snipe, great white heron and bramblings. My most exciting sighting yesterday was great bittern https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurasian_bittern which is a threatened heron here, if it has rebounded thanks yo planned restoration of their reed habitat. The males make a booming sound in spring which carries miles around, quite a sound to hear!
https://nzbirdsonline.org.nz/species/okarito-brown-kiwi
When I used to go tramping I would sometimes hear kiwi in the night but only see shadows in the dark. But once I went out during the day with a conservation officer with a tracking device and ‘ found’ a Rowi, which is a kiwi that lives only near a place called Okarito on the South Island west coast. It had wonderful feet, powerful and the most beautiful beak.
I’ve only ever seen one bittern in my life, though they are in a local wetland. But when I’ve read travel narratives from the 1880s they are described as rising in huge flocks from the ground beside railway lines ( near Queenstown).
Keas are incredible. Used to see them a lot in the mountains, especially around the ski fields but they have retreated a bit and now you are lucky to see one or two if you go into the mountains. Their call carries for miles though, so you hear them. We sometimes have kaka ( a forest parrot) that have been introduced to eco sanctuaries and then flourished and move closer to town.
I have always wanted to see a loon
I would, too. I managed to see great northern and black throated diver once in the North Spain coastland in winter but never in their lovely breeding plumage.
Googled Kaka and Rowis, you are so lucky to have seen them! What fantastic creatures kiwis are, they look from another world with that beak and feathers that look like fur.
We have wonderful loons in Canada. 🙂
Bob Odenkirk is genius. I can’t wait either.
Do you follow The Office? His appearance was one of my favorites.
I watched it for a while many years ago, and I didn’t know he was in an episode! He would have been wonderful as the main character and I can’t imaging anyone else playing Jimmy in BCS. .. he had a heart attack scare recently, I hope he is ok!
I heard he recovered. Nobody could be Slipping Jimmy but him!
He auditioned for Michael Scott, the clip is out there somewhere and is perfect. The episode he is in, he was exactly like Michael Scott. He would have been great taking over the last two seasons.
I love Fève Délicieuse, need to wear that tomorrow!
1. What fragrance are you wearing today?
Haven’t chosen yet for Sunday, but my Saturday SOTD was Chanel No. 22 edt. Just so beautiful!
2. What’s the new fragrance you’d most like to test soon?
Papillon’s Hera.
3. We won’t do a spring viewing poll this year, but do tell us if you’ve discovered any great tv shows or movies recently? Or anything else fun you’ve been streaming?
We’ve been binging period drama: The Gilded Age; Sanditon; Bridgerton. I’ve always loved period dramas, but right now I think I need that escapism more than usual.
4. What’s blooming in your local area?
Almost everything! Daffodils and other spring bulbs; azaleas; Lady Banks roses; deciduous magnolias; dogwoods; redbuds.
5. Share something wonderful with us!
We are planning some real travel this summer! Can’t wait.
Chanel 22 is so beautiful. To me it’s the n1 Chanel. Writing down your period drama series!
Monday Funday! Imam being worn by yesterday’s Datura Noir which is so powerful I will probably still be able to smell it tomorrow. Regarding perfumes: I want to try them all! Zoologist Cow, Tauer Sundowner, Aesop Stoic, Gold and Banks, all of JB’s South African discoveries…everything.
I have a subscription to MUBI which has a lot of old as well as new films and this past weekend I rewatched I heard the Mermaids Sing, which took me back. But my favourite film this week has been Lee Chang-dong’s Burning (2018), a wonderful Korean adaptation of a Murakami short story. Mysterious, well acted and stunning.
The maple trees and poplars are looking wonderful: red and golden and ‘confers’ ( did anyone else play confers?) lay on the ground around the chestnuts.
The stars are wonderful, the air is fresh and I survived giving my son his first driving lesson . Oh to be young and learning to drive again. Terrifying.
Happy Monday! It’s 3 and a half hours away from Monday over here!??
Go to bed!!
Good for you on the driving lesson! It takes someone really patient and empathetic that can project calm and confidence to be a good driving teacher! Also a bit of courage 🙂
I love Murakami books and the nostalgia mixed with magical feeling they create. I didn’t know about this movie, but I will look for it!
Love Poplars! They were prevalent in Long Island ages ago, not sure if they still are. And in Block Island, as well.
Good luck with the driving lessons. Buckle up!
Driving lessons! I took my son out to the cemetery to practice once. Even there it was terrifying. We are having to admit that he probably won’t ever drive at this point so we are working on public transportation.
Good luck to your son!
I love Murakami’s books. And maples in the fall! My favourite Goldfield & Banks for fall are Silky Woods and Velvet Splendour.
SOTD:
Profumum Roma Patchouly
From an incredibly generous NSTer. I just spritzes again and it is exactly what I hoped for. It fades quick, but that’s my nose, right now. I keep reapplying so I enjoy the initial spritz and I’m very happy with that.
Thanks to everyone for supporting Purple Day. I ‘didn’t feel myself’ yesterday, which is code for stay on the couch.?
Have a wonderful Sunday everyone.
Happy Sunday, you smell great. 🙂
Just sampling some of my older Ramon Monegal samples..and sadly they all went bad. Some were pretty old though. Also did a luckyscent sample purchase as it’s been quite a while of me buying anything fragrance. I figured I should try Seahorse and Cow cause I love seahorses and milk. Lol.
Good choices. Please report back.
My sotd has been Coco edp.
Really wanted to try Cow and enjoyed sampling it yesterday.
It’s Turner Classics 31 Days of Oscar, so I’ve been watching old movies. New to me is The Gold Cadillac starring Judy Holliday, what a hoot.
Snowdrops and crocus are blooming. Should see jonquils next week.
I had a great time visiting my daughter! It poured rain the whole time but she had cleared her schedule and we hung out and took turns cleaning muddy dogs (3, 2 big and 1 tiny.) Lots of laughs.
It’s Sunday evening and I’m drenched in Dior Tobacolor. Wasn’t sure if I liked it at first, but decided I really do.
