Happy Almost-Friday! It's also National Chocolate Covered Raisins Day, plus the International Day for the Right to the Truth Concerning Gross Human Rights Violations and for the Dignity of Victims. Birthdays: William Morris, Tommy Hilfiger. RIP Madeleine Albright. What fragrance are you wearing?
I'm in L'Artisan Parfumeur La Chasse aux Papillons, which tiffanie wore in 2020 (for Dealer's Choice edition 4) when she suggested the theme “always makes me smile perfumes”.
Reminder: 3/25 will be Dealer's Choice, edition 6 (variation)...pick a project you liked from a past Dealer's Choice project, and do that project. You can find prior editions (and choose your project by looking through the comments) here....edition 1, edition 2, edition 3, edition 4 or edition 5.
And for those of you who like to plan ahead, see Scent of the day ~ Friday community projects 2022, where I'll try to always have the next five or six weeks mapped out in advance.

Good morning!
Flavourtown continues and today I am exploring Bitter. Sotd is MiN New York’s Dune Road. It smells of freshly cut grass, giving that sense of bitter green.
I am matching with a cup of matcha green tea (made the traditional way with matcha powder and a whisk!).
Oh my, you are really winning that project!
My theme this week is Vacation. In the fall of 2007 we took the first really big trip we’d ever undertaken, to the UK, so we could see Canada vs. Fiji in the Rugby World Cup. I was amazed by the number of perfumeries in London, and bought a few things over the course of two weeks, one of which I’m wearing today: YSL Yvresse, the most playful chypre ever (the nose was Sophia Grojsman, of course). It’s positively giddy. It’s the smell of happiness.
Nice!
Who won?
Fiji, but it was anyone’s game until the final minutes.
I’m wearing Cedrat Enivrant, finishing up another sample.
Thunk!
DC: Use It Up! (If it’s not a real DC, let’s pretend…)
Pretty sure that “Use It Up” has been a Dealer’s Choice pick in the past. It’s too good not to be.
It has taken me the whole week of re-reading the CP descriptions to finally figure out what we’re supposed to be doing here ?
I think I’ve now read all past Dealer’s Choice posts and still haven’t seen one that matches what my own PP (personal project) has been for almost the entire month of March: Florals.
It’s not a genre that’s particularly well-represented in my collection (straight florals, that is) and not a category that I gravitate to except in spring. So earlier this month when the weather shifted I pulled everything out that fit and that’s all I’ve been wearing.
Today is Cruel Gardenia, which I haven’t quite made my mind up about yet, but seemed to fit the drippy warm weather. The humidity seems to have pulled a powdery note out, which I am thoroughly enjoying.
Wore 2 irises yesterday (La Pausa and Hiris), and Anais Anais the day before. I’ve had a bit of Anais Anais on hand for a good 20 years at this point, but it generally sits ignored. I’ve worn it 3 or 4 times in the past few weeks, and I have to say that it really is one of my all-time favorites. There really isn’t anything else quite like it, and the more I wear it the more I crave it.
I am so sorry if I did not explain it properly!
Probably florals were never suggested in Dealer’s Choice because we’d already done so many floral projects?
No matter…wholeheartedly support your project!
La Paisa and Hiris on the same day sounds pretty wonderful to me!
Ooh, you smell great!
Dealers Choice
“the Forgotten ones”
Cristalle
I have been busy this week searching for a milk frother to replace my broken one. Finally caved and bought the Nespresso.
Discovered a new to me cafe yesterday in NYC. Tried this interesting beetroot latte.
Oh, now I want a beetroot latte! Did it have coffee too?
And of course you smell great.
Beetroot was sans coffee and therefore caffeine. I loved it
Interesting, thanks.
Continuing the Mislaid Intentions theme I chose for this week, today’s entrant is Serge Lutens Bas de Soie (ordered the sample probably five years ago and never even opened it that I recall). It’s early yet, but already it has gone from old-school ladies’ perfume-y perfume to a slightly bitter, slightly metallic, muguet-centered composition. I like the bitter edginess but am not getting hyacinth at all, nor am I wild about muguet, so am hoping for further development.
Well, in further development BdS turns out (on me, anyway) to be a very faint rendition of Le Dix with a tiny dash of the bitter green of Bel Respiro. Not bad, but not what I was expecting. YMMV, of course.
I’ve had a few instances of “Where did I put that?” happen lately. Not all of them were perfume related. ?
A perfume (Datura Noir) and a poem –
CODA
And now I know what most deeply connects us
after that summer so many years ago,
and it isn’t poetry, although it is poetry,
and it isn’t illness, although we have that in common,
and it isn’t gratitude for every moment,
even the terrifying ones, even the physical pain,
though we are grateful, and it isn’t even death,
though we are halfway through
it, or even the way you describe the magnificence
of being alive, catching a glimpse,
in the store window, of your blowing hair and chapped lips,
though it is beautiful, it is; but it is
that you’re my friend out here on the far reaches
of what humans can find out about each other.
– Jason Shinder
love 🙂
Wow, I love that poem. And you smell great!
Thank you! And you smell great in POTL!
That’s a good one!
That poem!!! ♥️ Thank you for sharing it.
Continuing the “just finish it” theme in Vetiver Tonka—thunked my second sample of this one. Will I ever get more? Who knows?
I’m feeling very virtuous for thunking samples, which makes me want to order more perfume. It’s a vicious cycle.
I do love VT but I don’t wear it as often as I should.
Thunking samples is very satisfying!
It’s 8 am and all I can think about is going back to bed. Yawn. Wearing Mancera Purple Flowers.
Go back to bed!
4:30 and I am still dragging!
I have no theme. Themeless I am.
SL Borneo from the bell jar.
Now I’m trying to imagine what scent Yoda might have worn. ?
Dagobah would probably smell a lot like Oriza L Legrand Chypre Mousse.
Wearing Jicky edt today. Haven’t worn Jicky in probably close to 2 years. Last time I wore it was shortly before my grandmother died. Yesterday’s storms were interesting and lost electricity for a few hours. One of our surge protectors went and had to order a new one.
I hope nothing got damaged if it was connected to that surge protector that went down!
Twins! That was my pick today too.
Well, that was easy. I clicked into Dealer’s Choice edition 1, saw that Robin chose a theme of cult classics and was wearing People of the Labyrinths Luctor et Emergo and thought “yep, that’s exactly what I need today.” And it is!
Nice, plus you smell fantastic!
I imagine somewhere there’s a CP referencing putting scents on repeat. If so, that’s my Dealer’s Choice. Mon Guerlain Intense again.
Side benefit to a bad night’s sleep is a good night’s sleep. According to my Fitbit, I had a quite high level of deep sleep – way higher than usual. Lots of short awake times but not a big %. Is it a placebo effect if it makes me feel more rested to know this?
Give me a placebo effect any time, especially if it pertains to feeling rested!
2nd that!
Hopefully I’ll sleep better tonight too, since I finally stopped procrastinating this week to deal with a health insurance issue. So far, about 3 hours on the phone between various calls. ?we are moving to resolution because it seems like a straightforward mistake. But I never underestimate the ability for bureaucracies to not see that or fix things quickly.
I miss the days of knowing that I would sleep well no matter what.
Me too, Jalapeno. Those days are long gone.
I need to figure out my theme for tomorrow, but in the meantime I’m continuing on with the Goldfield & Banks samples. Today is Silky Woods. It’s a vanilla, but it gives off a sweet-salty-buttery vibe that reminds me of caramel corn. The texture is suede-like, as opposed to a powdery or creamy vanilla. It’s not a love for me, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this became a cult favorite.
Today’s tea is a excellent re-creation of my beloved Fairmont Empress Tea, blended by the generous AnnE.
I love Silky Woods! So to me, you smell fantastic!
Thank you!
What is this painting that arrived at your home? I must have missed an earlier comment about it.
How’s your stained glass art class going?
It’s going well, thank you! Only one class left, and the project I chose is “quite ambitious” (which is my teacher’s kind way of saying “this pattern is probably too advanced for you, but what the hell, give it a try anyway”), so I’ll definitely need to keep working on my own to finish it. I do see myself improving week over week, tho, so that is satisfying The studio has a TON of glass for the students to choose from, so I’m trying to at least finish choosing all of my colors and cutting as many pieces as I can while I’m still there, and then I can do all of the grinding and soldering at home. I think the most difficult part will really be forcing myself to set aside chunks of time to focus on a hobby.
After seeing Bois de Isle mentioned yesterday I am in my closest perfume, Cuir de Russie. Bottle is almost gone! It was one of the first really good perfumes I ever bought over 15 years ago.
So pretty, I wish I had a bottle of that too. The parfum was gorgeous.
SOTD is Shalimar MVP.
I’m planning on hoteling it tonight with a long hot shower, trimming my hair and upping my purple color. T-Rex will also be getting a bath, ear cleaning and nail clipping. I haven’t told her yet. ?
In other news no one really cares about, I put a deposit down on a new RV. It’ll be sometime before it’s done and that’s fine because Moby has been treating me very well for the last five years.
And now, it seems micro plastics have been found in human blood. Really, we have destroyed this world…I’m off to try and find a bit of GOOD NEWS! Link to the article below for those interested.
https://amp.theguardian.com/environment/2022/mar/24/microplastics-found-in-human-blood-for-first-time
For a few years now I’ve been hearing that microplastics had been found in salmon, so I figured it was only a matter of time before they’d get into humans. I didn’t expect to hear they’d gotten into the bloodstream — I was expecting fatty tissue — but in the end I guess that’s the same thing really. ?
Yeah, I would not be at all surprised to see micro-plastics in human GI tract, but in the bloodstream? Ewww!
Exciting RV news. Out of curiosity what mileage does Moby have now?
https://reasonstobecheerful.world/
For good news I like reading Reasons to be Cheerful. It’s a blog started by David Byrne and it has some cool stories. Small acts of kindness etc.
About 120,000 km. Still has plenty of life in him but I want to transition away from Travel Nursing over the next couple of years and my travel style will change. I will check out that blog. I feel like I’m in a really ?snit today and I need a good kick in the pants to get me out of it.
More adventures still to go
We are scent twins! On your new RV, would you have to do a lot of DIYs to get it to your exact specs?
We ARE twins! I gave you a big wave over on IG!
The RV would be built with the options I choose: flooring, fabric, solar, table and countertops, etc.. the basic bones and layout are the same, but I’m able to personalize it to a great degree. I’m looking forward to that, but it will be a while. I just put a deposit down to hold a place in the production line. It won’t be built for quite some time, unless people who have orders ahead of me start to pull out because of gas prices, political uncertainty, etc.
What fun! (The hotel room and the new RV, not the plastics.)
I actually sleep better in my van, but the endless running hot water means a Deluxe Shower for me and a good scrubbing for the doggo. The RV is exciting, though it’s a bit of a wait.
I am using Robin’s theme from edition 2 that was “just because”. I haven’t posted this week, but today is JM Wood Sage and Sea Salt Body Creme and English Pear and Fressia Cologne.
Hope everyone is having a good week. Almost Friday.
“Just because” is one of the best themes, IMO!
Yep.
Talk about dark outside. I can still see the southern cross twinkling above me when I get up in the morning. I was in the graveyard yesterday and it is in its real autumn phase holly and hawthorn berries, rose hips, and hanging on at the edges are quite a few roses, though the smell seems diminished now. The grass had just been cut when I walked through and so I breathed deeply. Gosh it was peaceful, not so many birds singing now. Watched Polanski’s Tess last night. I’ve never read the book so I really enjoyed it, beautiful images and rural life etc, loved the gleaning scenes.
Wearing Turbulences from a ScentSpirit/Gaynor sample. I would gladly wear it again but I think it’s discontinued. I tried Synthetic Jungle when I was away last week, and it reminded me a bit of the CDG Marseille soap perfume, but I only had a blotter spray sample and my memory to rely on.
I hope Spring is blossoming over there for everyone!
Did you like Synthetic Jungle?
Not enough to buy but I enjoyed it for the day and would like to sample it again. It is more wearable than Bracken , I think. Not so strident.
I never saw Tess but I remember when the trailer from when it came out.
Remember the Cat People poster with N. Kinski? It was everywhere
Absolutely I do!
Have not read it in years and now the movie scenes stick with me more than the book…
Another dull and damp morning here, not the nicest sort of autumny day. I think the peaceful Angélique from Papillon Perfumes will be comforting 🙂
We had that sort of spring day, if it helps…grey and drizzly and cold.
I’m in Azemour <3
You smell good!
Shocked to discover I’ve only participated in edition 4 of this CP!
My choice back then(2020,go figure),was “Comfort”,and I wore Aromatics Black Cherry.
SOTD!
KAYALI Musk 12..
It’s prettty,it comes in a dual-ended rollerball 5ml with the other one being Vanilla 28(which I like way more than the Musk)
I do “like” the Kayali perfumes,I wish I loved at least one of them, because I really like Huda and Mona Kattan,I enjoy their way of doing business, and their Instagram love and appreciation for their followers and consumers. But that could also just be a marketing ploy so who knows.
Happy Thursday!
XO’s
This CP went completely over my head…?
I think the have good product for relatively decent prices. I have seen Mona on YouTube. She is very likeable.
Wearing Bendelirious, which would count as an “always makes me smile perfume”, although I usually put it as, “Wheee!”
Then possibly it would work for next Friday as well!
Joining apsara in themelessness — was commando for a baking workshop with my students (sourdough bread). I knew that most of them had never baked bread before, but was shocked that lost had never tasted a loaf fresh from the oven. Couple fresh bread with the glory that is Irish butter, and you have a very happy group of people. When I got home and had dealt with some admin emergencies, I grabbed Breath of God. I am not sure it was the right choice for the day, but nothing else in my travel stash appealed.
So interesting to hear about your students. Do you ever bake Soda bread?
I’ve only made soda bread back home in the States — for St. Patrick’s Day. I love it! I make a version with caraway seeds and golden raisins that is sweeter than what we bought here (without raisins and seeds) for the holiday.
Oh what fun!
It really was. We have a group photo of us each holding our loaves at the end, and even I, grumpy Professor, have a ridiculous grin.
A grin, plus fresh bread 🙂
Busy day, dropping by to say I’m wearing Encens Mythique. No theme, but I mentioned rose-y incense fragrances yesterday and thought of this one.
When do you move?
Mother Nature has pushed “repeat” on the weather, so MOTS. Cool, grey and rainy. Strangely enough I have been enjoying this weather. Usually I am all about the sun. Go figure.
Maybe this song explains why: https://youtu.be/GpBFOJ3R0M4
SOTD = Wrappings. I’m still in a green perfume today but went with a comfort scent.
Between you and lillyjo, you find the best songs! And you smell great!
Thanks! I aim to please! ???
Not sure what perfumed direction I will go with tomorrow.
Unless I change my mind at the last second, I plan on doing a song match!
Weather twins again! But later tonight my rain is supposed to be mixed with snow.
Hiya twin! No snow in my forecast for today, but there’s supposed to be a hard freeze in my area over the weekend. More crazy rides on the weather roller coaster!
SOTD = Guerlain Shalimar MVP
Scent twins with Deva today! This could possibly be my most favorite Shalimar!

Mail call news: glad I was home on this weather-yucky day. I got the painting, my Scents of Wood subscription box and another owl. I haven’t opened any of them yet but definitely loving the postal consolidation.
Lot’s of fun mail for you today! Glad you were at home.
It was a good day to stay home and enjoy a nice soup if possible. ???
Working tonight but had a pretty good day so far.
My theme is “most recent purchase ” TM Mirror de Majesties. I actually did 8 sprays!
Today my store said masks are no longer required but we can still wear them if we want. So far it’s about 75% still wearing one including myself.
I hope your shift goes well and the crazies stay away.
Thank you!
But….
https://youtu.be/eq9FCBatl3A
?
Funny!
I’m still going to wear a mask when I go shopping. I’m kind of uneasy being in public without one now.
Same.
Same x2. Also, I know there are people who want to keep wearing a mask at work but feel awkward if no one else is wearing one, so I’m going to wear mine unabashedly to hopefully make those people more comfortable about wearing theirs
ELDO Remarkable People for me today. Remarkable weather for us today here in Houston: cool, clear, not a cloud in the sky and not humid. Soup season is basically over, but I’m jonesing for chicken tortilla soup or sweet potato veggie chili. Not sure which…
I made broccoli cheddar potato soup last night. It will be awhile before soup season is over here.
And here’s a song
https://youtu.be/-mXIL_LKvvI
It’s a funny one!?
Oh, that’s hilarious! His left eyebrow…I mean…wow…
If I’ve had any theme this week, it may be “oddball names”, as I wore Jicky EDT today; Ostara earlier this week. Now I’ll have to think of another fragrance with an oddball name for tomorrow! Maybe something by Beaufort London, or House of Matriarch, or Solstice Scents — they all use weird but interesting names.
